Himalaya UFO Activity: Mysterious Objects Alarm Indian Soldiers

Robot-like airborne figure photographed by scientific team in 2004 at Samudra Tapu

Units of the Indian Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) have reported Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOS) in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. An ITBP unit based in Thakung, close to the Pangong Tso Lake, reported over 100 sightings of luminous objects between August 1 and October 15 this year. In reports sent to their Delhi headquarters in September, and to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), they described sighting "Unidentified Luminous Objects" at day and by night. The yellowish spheres appear to lift off from the horizon on the Chinese side and slowly traverse the sky for three to five hours before disappearing. These were not unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVS), drones or even low earth-orbiting satellites, say Army officials who have studied the hazy photographs taken by ITBP.

Drone sightings are verified and logged separately. The Army has reported 99 sightings of Chinese drones between January and August this year: 62 sightings were reported in the western sector, the Ladakh region, and 37 in the eastern sector in Arunachal Pradesh. Three of these drones intruded into territory claimed by India along the 365-km-long border with China in Ladakh, manned by ITBP. Such mysterious lights have been sighted before in Ladakh, a barren, 86,000 sq km heavily militarised zone wedged between Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir and Chinese-occupied Aksai Chin. The persistent sightings by the ITBP this year, however, worried the Army's Leh-based 14 Corps. The ITBP, did not respond to a detailed India Today questionnaire.

In September, the Army moved a mobile ground-based radar unit and a spectrum analyser-that picks up frequencies emitted from any object-to a mountaintop near the 160-km-long, ribbon-shaped Pangong Lake that lies between India and China. The radar could not detect the object that was being tracked visually, in dicating it was non-metallic. The spectrum analyser could not detect any signals being emitted from them. The Army also flew a reconnaissance drone in the direction of the floating object, but it proved a futile exercise. The drone reached its maximum altitude but lost sight of the floating object.

In late September this year, a team of astronomers from the Indian Astronomical Observatory at Hanle, 150 km south of the lake, studied the airborne phenomena for three days. The team spotted the flying objects, Army officials say, but could not conclusively establish what they were. They did, however, say that the objects were "non celestial" and ruled out meteors and planets.

Scientists however say, the harsh geography and sparse demography of the great Himalayan range that separates Kashmir Valley from Ladakh, lends itself to unusual sightings. "The region is snowbound in winter, has few roads and is one of the most isolated places in India," says Sunil Dhar, a geologist at the government Post Graduate College in Dharamshala, who has studied glaciers in the region for 15 years.

Yet, none of the experts from the National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO)-in charge of technical intelligence-and Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), has been able to identify the objects. This has caused embarrassment rather than fear in the establishment. "Something is clearly wrong, if our combined scientific resources can't explain the phenomena," says a senior Army official in Delhi. Intelligence officials say these objects could be a crude psychological operation by China, or sophisticated probes attempting to ascertain India's defences in Ladakh.

"We can't ignore these sightings. We need to probe what new technology might have been deployed there, says former Indian Air Force (IAF) chief Air Chief Marshal (retired) P.V. Naik. In 2010, the IAF probed and dismissed Army sightings of such luminous objects as Chinese lanterns. UFO sightings have been endemic to Ladakh over the past decade. In late 2003, 14 Corps sent a detailed report on sightings of luminous objects to Army headquarters. Army troops on posts along Siachen had seen floating lights on the Chinese side. But reporting such phenomena risks inviting ridicule. When told about them at a northern command presentation in Leh, the then army chief, General N.C. Vij, had angrily dismissed the reports as hallucinations.

Scientists say the mysterious objects are not necessarily from outer space. There is no evidence of UFOS being of extra-terrestrial origin, says reputed Pune-based astrophysicist Jayant Narlikar. The implication of them being alien objects is fancy, not fact, he says.

There is still no explanation, however, for what is believed to be the clearest UFO sighting yet, in the Lahaul-Spiti region of Himachal Pradesh less than 100 km south of Ladakh in 2004. A five-member group of geologists and glaciologists led by Dr Anil Kulkarni of the ISRO's Space Applications Centre in Ahmedabad were on a research trip through the barren Samudra Tapu Valley. They filmed a fourfoot tall robot-like figure, that walked along the valley, 50 m away from them. The humanoid object then rapidly became airborne and disappeared. The encounter lasted 40 minutes.

It was seen by 14 persons including the six scientists. Kulkarni then interviewed each expedition member separately to verify what the team had seen. Copies of his detailed report were circulated to the PMO, ISRO, the Army and several intelligence agencies. Kulkarni established his team hadn't seen natural phenomenon. The matter, however, was buried soon after.

Sunil Dhar, who was part of the 2004 expedition, terms the sighting of the unidentified object an unforgettable experience. Locals, he says, have reported sighting mysterious objects for many years. These are unsolved mysteries that need more intensive study, he says. Left unexplained, the Ladakh sightings risk slipping into the crack between fact and science fiction. - India Today

The following information was published in 2009:

Villagers Say Aliens Building Base in Himalayan Mountains

Mountain villagers in the Tarai region of India's Himachal Pradesh state claim that UFOs have been seen "by day and by night" near the high-altitude glaciers of the Himalayas and that "aliens are building a very large underground base up there."

Since Sunday, October 10, 2004, UFOs, ranging in size from "very large cylindrical objects of a dull silver colour" to "small speedy discs," have been seen over the glaciers north of Chini, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from India's border with China. UFOs seen at night were said to "glow red and gold."

"More Indian military personnel and local natives are coming forward in the Himalayas' Tarai area and are reporting many exceedingly abnormal activities and UFO sightings all around the clock."

"Some (Indian) helicopter pilots are complaining about sophisticated jamming."

"A young boy in Nepal drew a picture of what appears to be an extraterrestrial flying object. He saw it while playing with many friends on the ground. The boys reported that these vehicles have no sound, can take off vertically, and can float in defiance of gravity. These vehicles can disappear all of a sudden," reported Sumit Chatterjee.

"Some of the IAF (Indian Air Force--J.T.) pilots are continually reporting seeing strange flying objects in the Himalayas near the Chinese border."

"A Tibetan (Buddhist) monk who recently visited India said these activities have been going on since 1998."

"According to a scientist of the Indian Geological Survey, UFOs and strange beings are visiting a 100-square- kilometer portion of the Tarai. Visits have occurred frequently during the past 18 months. The northeastern region of Himachal Pradesh has experienced many varied sightings."

Chatterjee added, "Among the local people is a rumour that 'they' will land here in the next seven years. Some Indian ufologists say that beings from Sirius will land on Earth and publicly reveal themselves in 2012."

"Is this the final prophecy of the landing that the Mayans predicted centuries ago?"

"The military personnel are talking privately but maintain that for national security reasons nothing more can be said. But at least one of the officers has come out and said bluntly that these are UFOs."

"There are many indications that a large underground base is now being built within the hard andesite (bedrock) of the high Himalayas. The construction is going on in the high terrain close to the No Man's Land between India and China."

"Another interesting thing--increased Indian and Chinese army activity has been seen in the region."

But the strangest report comes from the Chinese side of the border. A Chinese armored brigade, outfitted with T-80 main battle tanks, was ordered to proceed to the border from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) base in Niuke. But when the tanks got to Zhada, they got a real surprise.

"Recently an artificial lake was created in China" west of Zhada, "very close to the Indian border. "The lake" filled the Langchui River (called the Sutlej River on the Indian side--J.T.) valley and "threatened to flood the Indian side. India and China both refused to investigate the incident. Then, all of a sudden, the local Chinese people reported that the lake was no longer there. Whatever remained of the lake was no longer a threat to the Indian villagers. What really happened?" Chatterjee asked, "What caused an artificial lake of this size? And who took care of removing the problem?"

"It appears that the aliens melted a glacier and created the temporary lake to prevent those Chinese tanks from reaching the border," said Krishnari Bai Dharapurnanda, a UFO Roundup correspondent in India. "There are many rumours at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). They say these UFOs are definitely planning and building a fortress in the Himalayas for a purpose known only to the aliens themselves."

In China, UFO Roundup correspondent Chen Jilin reported, "No news is coming out of the Langchui Valley. It is a military region with very tight security. But the rumour is, the Extraterrestrials are active in the region with the collusion of the (Chinese Communist) Party and New Delhi, to ward off an attack from the Anglo-Americans and the Israelis."

New Focus On Underground Himalayan Border Base Since Chinese UFO Flap

pakalertpress - China and India both know about underground UFO base in the Himalayan border area deep into the tectonic plates.

Kongka La is the low ridge pass in the Himalayas (the blue oval in the map above). It is in the disputed India-China border area in Ladakh. In the map the red zone is the disputed area still under Chinese control in the Aksai Chin area. The Chinese held northeastern part is known as Aksai Chin and Indian South West is known as Ladakh. This is the area where Indian and Chinese armies fought major war in 1962. The area is one of the least accessed area in the world and by agreement the two countries do not patrol this part of the border. According to many tourists, Buddhist monks and the local people of Ladakh, the Indian Army and the Chinese Military maintain the line of control. But there is something much more serious happening in this area.

According to the few local people on the Indian and Chinese sides, this is where the UFOs are seen coming out of the ground, According to many, the UFO underground bases are in this region and both the Indian and Chinese Government know this very well..

Recently, some Hindu pilgrims on their way to Mount Kailash from the Western pass, came across strange lights in the sky. The local guides while in the Chinese territory told them that this was nothing new and is a normal phenomenon from Kongka Pass area – the tensed border region between India and China. This strange lighted triangular silent crafts show up from underground and moves almost vertically up. Some of the adventurous pilgrims wanted to look into the site. They were first turned back by the Chinese guard posts as they were refused entry from the Chinese side. When they tried to approach the site from Indian side, the Indian border patrol also turned them down in spite of their permit to travel between the two countries.

The pilgrims at that stage started quizzing the Indian border security personnel. The security personnel told them that they are ordered not to allow any one near the area of interest and it is true that strange objects come out from under the ground with amplified and modulated lights. India’s Special Operations Forces and the intelligence agencies are in charge of that area.

The locals start laughing in that area when they are asked about these UFO sightings. They get surprised why the Governments are so eager to hide these obvious facts. According to them the extra-terrestrial presence is well known and is in deep into the ground. They believe neither the Indian or Chinese Governments do not want to expose the fact for some reason. When they bring up this matter to local Governments, they are told to keep quiet and forget the same. This is the region where the Euresian plate and the Indian plate have created convergent plate boundaries. Convergent plate boundaries are formed where one plate dives under another. Consequently, this is one of the very few areas in the world where the depth of the earth’s crust twice as thick as in other places. The opposite is found in hot spots like Yellow Stone National Park in America where the earth’s crust in thin.

The double thick earth-crust allows the creation of underground bases very deep into the tectonic plates.

Kongka La has beautiful rocks and granites. For some strange reasons neither the Chinese nor the Indian authorities ever excavate, dig or mine in this area. The area is pristine and untouched.

Recently, both India and China have moved forward to solve all border disputes and start the Sino-Indian relations all over again. The Aksai Chin area is still disputed. But interesting while negotiations both the Governments are indifferent on this area. India and China as shown in the accompanying maps have huge border areas along the Himalayas and they are negotiating on all these regions. Though India claims that Aksai Chin is part of India, the common belief in the Government is that it is not a show stopper. On the other hand, Chinese after winning Aksai Chin from India in 1962 war, built a strategic military highway. Now they are using an alternate highway not to bother with the area in Kongka La.

Recently in the local school, young children of the area entered into a drawing contest. More than half of the drawings had to do with strange objects in the sky and some coming out of the mountains. Many of them even know what and when to look for.

Many UFO researchers believe that there are hidden UFO bases under the ocean and deep under the ground. Kongka La is experiencing some strange phenomenon and suspicious objects coming out of the inaccessible huge mountains (Himalayas) and both the Governments refuse to come out and say what these are.

The other alternative is that it is an underground strategic Air Force base of some one. Then why will either country allow the base on the official no man’s land in the highly sensitive disputed border area? Why is this region continuously reporting UFO sightings from various kinds of people?

The Paulding Lights and Reciprocal Phenomena

The following article recently appeared on a Wausau, Wisconsin TV website. This phenomenon has been studied and researched for over a century...some say it's simply an explainable anomaly while others point to other strange events that coincide with the lights. A few years ago an unexplained incident occurred that may have some connection to the Paulding Lights...you be the judge:

The Paulding Light: A Mystery That Haunts Michigan's UP

Just across the border from Vilas county, is a mystery that haunts Michigan's Upper Peninsula, the Paulding Light.

It's a strange light, that scientists have been unable to explain for decades. But what causes this phenomenon?

Our search for answers starts in the small community of Watersmeet, a few miles south of Paulding.

Local historian Don Williams says the legend of the light dates back to a train crash in the late 1800's.

"The light you see is the light from the conductor, who is watching over the scene," says Williams. "Where there was a fatality."

Williams says no one knows who saw the light first, even though the folklore dates back to the turn of the century.

"But as far as anyone can be sure of, it would be in the middle 1950's," says Williams. "A couple high school girls here first saw the light."

"It's a ghost train," said Jeanette Zurawski. "Yes it is. See the light's getting brighter. It's coming."

But the Paulding Light has also drawn plenty of skeptics. The most popular theory is the light is actually from headlights on a road several miles away.

But Williams says that's impossible.

"The light's there when there aren't cars," says Williams. "It's simply not car headlights, it's not."

But if not that -- then what? There are plenty of questions, but few answers to this real-life mystery - The Paulding Light.

A lot of people have tried to solve the mystery of the Paulding Light, including some national TV shows. But the mystery continues. - MyFoxWausau

NOTE: The 'Fact or Faked: The Paranormal Files' team investigated the 'Paulding Light' phenomenon near Watersmeet, Michigan. They concluded that there is no explanation for the light. I have posted some information below as well as an update to a reader's experience at the location...Lon

There are many popular explanations for the cause of the phenomenon. Theories range from radioactive gas, anomalies in the earth's magnetic field, glowing plasma, or swamp gas. Skeptics assert that the light is nothing more than headlights in the distance. Others believe that the paranormal has a hand in the lights origin. One popular paranormal tale describes the ghost of a brakeman killed in the nineteenth century as the cause. Alternative paranormal theories include UFO's and other ghosts.

Several amateur studies have been conducted, all of them concluding that the lights are indeed the result of the mid-1960s rerouting of US 45, giving the viewing spot a slightly angled view of sporadic traffic along the new highway. The colors then match headlights, tail lights, and the warning lights of the occasional emergency vehicle. Proponents of supernatural explanations discount these studies, claiming that the lights studied in these cases are not, in fact, the actual Lights of Paulding.

Another popular paranormal explanation is the ghost of a mailman, who was carrying out the mail about 60 years ago in the northwoods with a dogsled. Because the mail was running late public authorities were looking for the missing mailman and found him and his dogs dead on the spot where nowadays the Paulding Light is observed.

'Paulding Lights' Excursion Results in Another Discovery

MUFON witness report: My son and I wanted to investigate the Paulding Lights Mystery. So the morning of March 1, 2009, after I had gotten off work, we took an Northwest Airline flight from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Iron Mountain, Michigan. We landed about 4:30PM and I think we left Iron Mountain's airport, called Ford Airfield, about 5:30PM. We rented a car and drove to Paulding. It was about +2 above zero when we left the airport. We drove from Iron Mountain MI and Paulding MI via State Road 2 to Watersmeet then State Road 45 to Paulding. We made one stop for coffee (but I would have to go back and re-due the route to remember which gas station we stopped at). The sun was starting to set low and I told my son that he should do an intro to our video explaining what and where we were going to investigate. As he turned on the camera, the camera filmed something in the backseat of our car, however, we never had time to review the film until three months later. I have asked the Institute on the Environment at the University of Minnesota to see if someone there might have an idea on what this might be. I also posted the video on YouTube to see if anyone else might of filmed or seen the same thing. YouTube post: Original video

Here are Your Following Points:

1. We were driving to Pauling Michigan from Iron Mountian Airport.
2. Reviewing the film we took looking for the Paulding Lights.
3. Dimensional Person.
4. We did not noticed anything while we where driving. Not until I reviewed the film 3 months later did we see the thing in the back seat.
5. Describe your feelings, reactions and actions, during and after sighting the object. Normal
6. How did you lose sight of the object? Only the camera saw it.

We were using a JVC compact camcorder model GR-AXM17U, it uses VHS-C tapes. I really would like someone to take a real good look at this film.

Sincerely,

SFC Luis J. Soria (ret) - MUFON CMS

I later received this follow up:

To 'Phantoms and Monsters': Thanks for posting our MUFON report. In our continuing exploration of The Paulding Lights and this new Spirit Anomaly/Alien type Being we filmed in the backseat of our car, I present to all for their studies, a digital remastered film of this Blue Alien.

Click for video

This film has been studied by The University of Minnesota, The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) offices in Minnesota and Texas, The Tesla Society, Jose Escamilia, Ed Grimsly and NASA. At this time, NO ONE knows what the blue object is.

If anyone has any comments please feel free to email me at ljsoria@yahoo.com

Soon we will travel back up to Paulding for an extended stay and try to see what we capture on film again. Any advice is highly welcomed.

Sincerely,

Luis J. Soria

NOTE: Was this glowing blue entity connected to the Paulding Lights? Or was this simply another strange anomaly that manifests in the general area? Is this another unexplained zone where different realities seem to intertwine? Lon

The Katrina Abductions: New Revelations

I received the following update from Matt R. in reference to his ordeals with Reptilians. The written narrative is presented without edits:

In an interview recorded on 10-23-12, Joe Montaldo discusses new info and findings in regards to the 2005 Katrina reptilian abductions. He has now found at least 30 other abductees, who were taken during these events. For the first time, he also goes into precise detail on what transpired during these training exercises. My name is Matt R. As a former NOPD officer,I was one of the abductees involved. I am mentioned by Mr Montaldo a few times in this interview. These abductions involved dozens of police and military members. The main purpose of these workshops were to train reptilians , and select groups of abductees, in crowd control. According to some of these newly revealed accounts, these exercises also involved the use of alien stun wands, wound healing devices, and telekinesis.

Here is an edited version of that interview, which originally appeared on the Kevin Smith show, on 10-23-12.I have posted it on soundcloud, and removed the portions where they discuss unrelated subject matter:
http://soundcloud.com/panamaorange/reptilianabductionsupdate2012

The complete and unedited version can also be heard here:
http://paranormalradionetwork.org/2012/10/23/kevin-smith-radio-guest-joe-montaldo-talking-about-the-reptilians-aliens.aspx

Although Joe and I disagree on where this mall training took place, there is one explanation that may bridge the discrepancy. There was only one mall in Louisiana undergoing major renovations at that time: Mall st Vincent, outside of Barksdale AFB. And they just happened to be removing the same decorative lamp posts, benches, and garbage cans that we all saw in this mall type setting. Those black faux antique lamp posts were very memorable. So, even if we weren't in the real mall st Vincent, someone was likely using it as a prop source. I vividly recall the reptilians shooting those items with their backpack powered lasers. Anything they shot produced the effect of a stun grenade, showering people with sparks and debris, without wounding.

At the bottom of the information portion of the audio link, I provided a link to a new web page. It is a copy of a letter I sent to MUFON, which contains links to all the Phantoms and Monsters blog posts I have written in regards to my abductions:
https://sites.google.com/site/linkedletter/

This letter was a follow up to a conversation I had with Kathleen Marden, at the August 2012 MUFON symposium. She is one of MUFON's highest ranking abduction researchers. Part of her presentation included a discussion of reptilian alien abductions. I asked if she was familiar with the physiological changes that I, and other rep abductees, had experienced. She informed me that she had encountered numerous cases, where reptilian abductees had reported developing inexplicable patches of reptilian like skin. Based on many of the reptilian’s direct statements to abductees, this is the result of gene therapy treatments. Their goal is to reactivate recessive reptilian DNA, which was embedded into certain human "royal" bloodlines. I discuss this topic in this article: http://naturalplane.blogspot.com/2012/07/grails-snakes-and-test-tubes.html

NOTE: I will not endorse or impugn any of the narrative posted by the author. It has been posted solely as the opinion of the author without any input by myself (unless I was quoted). I will state that I believe that there are other humanoid beings living among us, either alien species or entities bio-engineered from terrestrial lifeforms. Beyond my statement you are left to your own conclusions...Lon

Just the Facts?: Disney ‘Star Wars’ -- Raped by Bigfoot? -- Hit Ordered On Drug Sniffer Dog

Disney ‘Star Wars’...Superfans Speak Out

Unless your power was knocked out by Sandy (and we hope you’re safe and sound now!), you have probably heard the news that rippled through the entertainment world yesterday – Disney has bought LucasFilm in a stock and cash deal valued at $4.05 billion and plans to make a series of new Star Wars films, with creator George Lucas serving as creative consultant.

Speakeasy wanted to find out what movie fans, and especially die-hard “Star Wars” fans, think about all this. So, we had conversations with:

Chris Wyman – reporter and administrator for Star Wars fansites RebelScum.com and TheForce.net

Jimmy “Mac” McInerney – Host of the popular ForceCast podcast

Nick Nunziata – Film producer and founder of movie development website CHUD.com

Matt Goldberg – Managing Editor at movie news website Collider.com

Here’s what they had to say. Note: Each of the conversations was held separately–unless the participants were secretly communicating through some sort of Jedi Mind Trick.

Are you glad “Star Wars” is moving forward, or do you worry about something you love being tainted?

Nick Nunziata: “Star Wars” has been tainted since the mid-1990s. This represents the first growth in an interesting direction in a long time. Because the “Star Wars” that I fell in love with is gone, it’s truly a blank canvas.

Chris Wyman: I am extremely excited about the notion of more films. This is something that I felt could happen as George Lucas decided to step away from the day to day operations at Lucasfilm and that turned out to be exactly what was going on. I don’t see this as changing anything from the past, but securing the future of the franchise, certainly, and giving even more people a chance to experience “Star Wars”in a whole new light.

What about the cast, do you want Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford to come back as Luke, Leia, and Han Solo?

Matt Goldberg: It wouldn’t make much sense to go with all new characters, or at least ones unrelated to the Skywalkers. Anakin may be dead, but his legacy can remain. I think there was a reason Lucas decided that Leia also had Jedi in her blood, and that’s so that her offspring could also use the Force. Basically, we’re looking at the next generation. Ideally, if you’re going to bring back the characters, you want the same actors. But, realistically, I’m not sure how eager Hamill, Fisher, and Ford would be to return to the roles.

Jimmy Mac: I believe we will see a new trilogy set 20 years into the future of the “Star Wars” timeline. Luke Skywalker will appear in the film as an Obi-Wan-esque character…Someone who will pass the baton, er, Lightsaber on to the next generation. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford own those roles. They are cinema icons and should be re-cast if their characters are in the script. I believe you will see all three but the focus will be on new characters and situations.

And George Lucas, how much of a role should he play going forward?

Goldberg: Lucas needs to step aside creatively. His involvement would best be used as a resource; he knows the world, its creatures, planets, etc., but he doesn’t get to create the storylines or characters.

Nunziata: No more George. The best gift he could ever have given fans is their favorite world with a bright new future. He’s exhausted any goodwill he’s earned. Star Wars is bigger than George Lucas. And maybe this finally frees him to do the art films he’s always intended to do.

Jimmy Mac: I think the fact that these films will be made is due to Lucas’s amazing creativity, vision, and concept. It is his outlines that the scripts will be based on and he will continue to serve in a consultant capacity for the upcoming films. “Star Wars” owes its future to George Lucas and his profound grasp of storytelling and his ability to create universes.

A lot of fans have cracked jokes about Mickey Mouse as a Jedi or Donald Duck as Darth Vader, but do you think Disney is a good company to steer the franchise into the future?

Wyman: George couldn’t have picked a better company to take over. Disney’s reach is limitless and spans the entire world, literally. They are in the entertainment business and “Star Wars” fans want to be entertained, plain and simple. We aren’t going to see Mickey Mouse inserted into the “Star Wars” universe. Ultimately, this move really opens up a whole new world of opportunities for a younger generation to grow up with “Star Wars” all over again and that’s pretty special.

Nunziata: Absolutely. They are a machine and seeing the relationship with Marvel blossoming it’s a no-brainer. Disney is long past the cheese phase. They have as much integrity as any other studio, except with the firepower to execute on all the ancillary levels that the film world needs to thrive on.

Perhaps the most important question, are Star Wars fans excited about this or nervous?

Wyman: I’ve heard mixed reactions across the board. When it comes right down to it, you can be happy about getting new “Star Wars” films, collectibles & rides or you can choose to appreciate the history of “Star Wars” up to now and leave it at that. At the end of the day, a majority of the people are rejoicing and thrilled to be here for this momentous occasion and I’m certainly one of them. There’s never been a better time to be a fan.

Jimmy Mac: Yoda said “Always in motion the future is.” The fear of the unknown has caused some fans to become outraged at this announcement. But for the most part, “Star Wars” fans are excited and pumped up for the silver screen expansion of the saga in Episodes 7,8,9, and beyond. We will be talking about this on The ForceCast for months and years to come. Fan speculation is the backbone of the anticipation for any new “Star Wars” film. Here’s where the fun begins. We have only planted the seed…We haven’t even watered it yet!

Nunziata: I saw “Star Wars” in theaters as a kid of 5 when it was brand new. It changed my life. Shaped it. I went to film school in large part due to these films. I believe that if someone is a true “Star Wars” fan this is the best possible solution. I flat out gave up on it and assumed Lucas was going to ride the franchise into his grave. Instead it has new vibrant life and in a place where MULTIPLE visions are welcomed. It’s simply too big a franchise to be a singular one.

Goldberg: Deep down, they want to see more “Star Wars” and perhaps some kind of redemption of the series to wash out the bad taste of the prequels. My final thought is this: reporting on “Star Wars” casting rumors for the foreseeable future makes me want to put a gun in my mouth. - WSJ

Drug bosses order 'hit' on police sniffer dog

Drug bosses in Rio de Janeiro have issued a 'death order' against a sniffer dog named Boss. The labrador is wanted by the Brazilian gang in the violent Manguinhos slum after sniffing out more than 660 pounds of cannabis hiding inside a false wall. Police patrolling the favela in the north of the city intercepted a radio message from the trafficking kingpin with an order to "target brownie" – a reference to the dog's colour.

Five-year-old Boss is the most feared amongst the 68 sniffer dogs who help police find drugs in Rio's vast slums, police said. The gangsters recently tried to throw him off the scent by hiding a batch of drugs next to an open sewage drain, but the labrador still managed to lead officers to them despite the pungent smell.

Major Vitor Valle, from Rio's military police dog squad, said Boss will continue to work in the slum but will now be protected by nine policemen. He said it was the first time one of their dogs has received a death threat from the powerful drugs factions. "Since 1955, when the dog squad was first formed, have we had a case like this. We haven't even had a dog injured during police operations," he said.

He said Boss has always been an "excellent" sniffer dog. "He's become a target because of the amount of the traffickers' drugs he's helped seize. We see this as a normal situation. Every one of us is at risk who are working against drugs trafficking. A dog can also be threatened, especially as our dogs have helped find more than 1.5 tonnes of drugs in the last year. It won't stop us, or him, doing our work." - Telegraph

How NOT to break up a party...

At least 25 people have died and 30 others were hurt in a fire at a wedding in eastern Saudi Arabia, officials say. Hundreds were inside the courtyard of a home in the village of Ain Badr, in the Abqaiq region, when the blaze began.

A high-voltage power line reportedly fell down and sent sparks flying after it was hit by celebratory gunfire. The power line is also believed to have touched a metal door at the only exit from the courtyard, causing the electrocution of many of the victims. Most of those killed and injured are reported to have been women.

Civil Defence chief Gen Abdullah Khsheiman as said a women-only marquee was set on fire. Women are separated from men at weddings in Saudi Arabia in line with the kingdom's strict rules on gender segregation. Survivors have been taken to the Aramco and Central Abqaiq hospitals.

Civil Defence spokesman Col Mohammed al-Ajami said the governor of Eastern Province, Prince Mohammed bin Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, had ordered the authorities to investigate the incident. The Saudi authorities last month banned the shooting of firearms at weddings - a popular tradition in tribal areas of the kingdom. In July 1999, 76 people died in a similar incident in Eastern Province. - BBC

Raped by Bigfoot?

The following preamble and link are so bizarre and absurd, I decided that I'd post it...regardless of what I think about the author:

Was Melba Ketchum raped by a Bigfoot!? Yes, I realize that this is an incredible story, and it seems to strange to be believed. However, I have been told that Ketchum recently told at least 4 different people this story.

Here is what happened, according to her: Ketchum is leasing property somewhere in Texas, possibly in East Texas, where there is a Bigfoot habituation site. It is here that she says she has seen the Bigfoots and discovered that they braided the manes on her horses, among other odd things.

One day Melba went out to a part of her pasture “where the Bigfoots like to hang out.” This is an odd part of the pasture. She says that as soon as you open the gate to this part of the property, “you are likely to get zapped.” By this she apparently means hit by Bigfoot infrasound. Frightening! She apparently went out there to attend to her horses in some manner.

Another Strange Encounter on the Ottawa River

There has been another strange encounter at the Ottawa River in or near Ottawa, Ontario. This time the report involves a possible interdimensional being. Since 1986 there have been numerous reports of UFOs, USOs, unusual creatures, unexplained anomalies, etc. in the general area of the river:

OTTAWA WITNESS REPORTS INTERDIMENSIONAL LIKE ENTITY

Security guards on the night shift get to see some strange things, both at work and on the way to work. One such odd sighting occurred in Ottawa, the nation’s capital late on October 22nd, between 10:30 and 11:00pm.

“On my way to work travelling southbound on the Champlain Bridge, I noticed something strange out of the corner of my eye.” The security guard’s testimony begins in the same way as many UFO accounts. Something out of the ordinary catches your eye, you look more closely, and there before you is a sight that is not easy to explain.

The guard made a report to MUFON, the Mutual UFO Network, and went on to say, “A bright object in the sky was moving erratically in no general pattern. At first I thought of spot lights or that someone was shining a powerful flashlight.” These are always possible explanations put forward in UFO sightings, but the guard did not think that they were plausible on this occasion.

“It wasn’t until I stopped the car and tried to make a sketch of what I was seeing that I realized what I was looking at. It was the classic flying saucer shape, only upside down, with the dome part underneath.” The object was travelling east, keeping a steady altitude in the low clouds that were beginning to cover the sky over the west end of Ottawa. “It was almost as if the object was using these low lying clouds as cover,so as to remain undetected. If it wasn't for the fact that I happened to be staring right at it as I came over the bridge, I don’t think I would have never noticed it.”

The guard told MUFON that he watched the object for about 20 minutes, during which time it moved quickly, then slowly, changing its flying pattern frequently. Not that there really was a pattern: the craft darted here and there, sometimes fast, sometimes slow. Eventually he had to go into work and his observations ended. “But,” he concluded, “It was very odd. I do believe science can explain almost everything. So, it takes a lot to convince me that something supernatural is happening. I keep an open mind, but this "UFO" experience was indeed an occurrence that I find hard to explain.”

OTTAWA RIVER CREATURE

Driving along the Ottawa River via boat, 3 friends and I see something in the water at around 10pm. This creature was large, created a medium sized wake, and swam fast. Very fast.. We were in a Seadoo boat and we could barley catch up going between 40-60km/h. It was a dark figure and when we cut it off, it went completely under water. I've been asking a lot of question to family and friends as to what this might be and the answers are sturgeon, bear, turtle, beaver.. I've researched all those answers and found out that NONE of them can swim that fast, and as for the sturgeon, this creature was NOT that skinny. It was round, just a bit smaller than a plastic kiddie pool. Ive never believed in this kind of fantasy stuff, but seriously that night has got me thinking....

WHAT CRASHED INTO THE OTTAWA RIVER?

Inquisitr.com - Dozens of residents of Canada’s capital city, Ottawa Ontario and nearby Gatineau, Que., witnessed an object streak across the night sky at about 10pm local time Monday night and crash into the Ottawa River with a “thunderous boom.”

The object had lights on it and appeared to change course several times, like a small plane struggling to stay airborn, before it hit the water.

It was such a sight that emergency rescue and search crews in the area sprung into action and began searching the area using sophisticated sonars and underwater cameras to try and figure out what the object was. Even helicopters from the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) in nearby Trenton took part. On Tuesday at 1:30pm, they discovered an object about 9 meters (30 feet) below the surface, but because of currents and nearby rapids, sending divers down would be extremely dangerous since they would be instantly swept away by the currents.

The mystery? Authorities and residents have no idea what this object laying at the bottom of the river is. There are no planes missing from the area, no other aircraft like helicopters, etc. are missing. There is no debris, no oil slick and even space agencies that were contacted said nothing disappeared from orbit.

On Tuesday afternoon, Ottawa police Const. Alain Boucher said of the object they found on the riverbed:

“The size and the shape doesn’t lead us to believe it’s any piece of an airplane or fuselage or anything like that. It could be a rock, it could be a bunch of logs stuck together, it’s hard to say. No one has come forward with any kind of videos or anything like that at this time. None of the people actually reported seeing a plane go down at the same time.”

But the fact still remains - something fell into the Ottawa River Monday night that prompted a massive co-ordinated search by local authorities and the Canadian Military. They found an object below the surface and don’t know exactly what it is.

It truly is a UFO mystery at this point.

ORIGINAL REPORT - WellandTribune.ca

It truly was an unidentified flying object that darted across the night sky over the Ottawa River this week.

“There's nothing in the river for us to find in terms of an airplane or helicopter or something that went down (Monday) night,” Ottawa police Const. Alain Boucher said Tuesday afternoon.

“We're still looking into what could have caused this. There's a number of reasons this could have happened. We'll be looking into that in the next couple of days.”

Several residents, both in Ottawa and in Gatineau, Que., reported lights smashing into the water around 10 p.m. Monday, along with a thunderous boom.

The calls prompted police, firefighters, paramedics and a helicopter from CFB Trenton to scour the waters for a downed aircraft.

Problem was, there was no physical evidence pointing to a plane wreck: No debris, no oil slick and no indication from airspace authorities that something fell off the radar. There was also no report of a missing aircraft.

Still, searchers launched their boats on Tuesday morning looking for clues that could confirm witness accounts.

They found a few objects in the water, but nothing significant until around 1:30 p.m., when sonar discovered something bulky more than nine metres below the surface.

An underwater camera couldn't reach it and searchers called off the mission not knowing exactly what the object was.

“The size and the shape doesn't lead us to believe it's any piece of an airplane or fuselage or anything like that,” Boucher said. “It could be a rock, it could be a bunch of logs stuck together, it's hard to say.”

“No one has come forward with any kind of videos or anything like that at this time,” Boucher said. “None of the people actually reported seeing a plane go down at the same time.”

NOTE: I don't know what to make of this story. I would tend to think it was a meteorite if not for the witness statements contradicting that theory. It'll be interesting to see what comes of this. The Canadian government and military are tight-lipped about these type of incidents for the most part...Lon

Canadian Roswell: UFO Crashes In Ottawa River

OTTAWA RIVER UFO ENCOUNTER

Written up on December 23, 2011

I have created Google Map Images of my location and UFO passage that are added below.

Ottawa, Canada UFO – Summer 1986

During the summer of 1986 when I was 24 years old, I was very fortunate to witness a high speed UFO travelling just above the Ottawa River at what I estimate to be 3,000 to 5,000 feet. This observation is based on aircraft normally flying at 20,000 to 30,000 feet.

The craft was a cigar shape. Tapered at both ends and thickening in the middle.

The width and thickness of the object observed from my distance was that of a Canadian dime. True length of object viewed from 1.7 miles is 30 meters to 40 meters.

Please note that the human eye has a natural zoom capability for distant objects of about 1,800x. This observation is based on my use of a modern 2011 Sony video camera with a 50x optical zoom and 1,800x digital zoom. Model DCR - SR20

Distance to object has been estimated at 1.7 to 2 miles using Google Earth, measuring from the top of the hill at the intersection at Duford Street and Jamison Avenue.

My viewing location for this event was at the top of the Queenswood Height's hill in Orleans located approximately 10 miles from Ottawa. Intersection at Duford Street and Jamison Avenue.

In 1986 there were no houses built on this hill giving a clear view of the Ottawa River and the Gatineau Valley 1.7 miles away.

Month of sighting is June 1986. Estimate

Viewing time was between 15:00hrs to 17:00hrs, broad daylight.

I had the UFO in sight for only 2 seconds.

Later on I would determine with Google Earth that the distance covered by the UFO during my observation time was 4 miles. This was possible because of my elevated position on Queenswood Heights Hill giving me a clear view of the Ottawa River and Gatineau Valley in the distance.

The UFO travelled rapidly over the Ottawa River moving in an East to West direction towards the city of Ottawa.

The UFO would be spotted by several students at Carleton University, reported to the Ottawa Citizen newspaper, and written up the next day in a small story.

The event happened on a Friday. Exact date unknown.

Technical details of the event.

Time in view 2 seconds.

Distance covered 4 miles.

Speed 4 miles per 2 seconds.

4 miles = 6437.376 metres

6437.376 m in 2 seconds

Speed of the UFO = 3,218.688 m /s

Speed of sound at sea level 340.29 m/s

Speed of the UFO = 9.45866 times the speed of sound

The UFO moved through the air in absolute complete silence.

There was no sonic boom associated with this high speed travelling object and I was completely surprised. I was listening for it intently.

This UFO therefore had the capability to move through a medium like air without displacing it.

Travelling at 9.45x the speed of sound the only way NOT to create a sonic boom is NOT to displace the medium of air in the first place.

Therefore UFO craft have an ability to move through a medium like air and water without displacing it. This means that there is NO friction with the medium allowing such fast velocities and changes in direction when required.

How this is accomplished is not known at this time.

Could a magnetic field enable an object to move through a medium without displacing it?

A engineering challenge for future aircraft designers.

The technology to move an object through a medium without displacing it exists.

I have seen it in 1986 and that was 25 years ago.

Just the Facts?: Superstorm...Rising Coffins and Skeletal Remains -- Flat-Earthers Still Exist

Superstorm: Water force coffins out of graves in Maryland

After having leveled huge swathes of New York City and the East Coast as it rampaged through the region on Monday night, superstorm Sandy inflicted a final indignity as it caused coffins to rise from their graves.

At one cemetery in Crisfield, Maryland, two caskets, one silver and the other bronze, rose up from the ground as the sheer force of the water unleashed by Sandy swelled the ground.

Powerful enough to dislodge the cement slabs that covered the graves, the sad sight indicated the indiscriminate bombardment that mother nature brought to reign over the U.S. Atlantic coastline.

The most devastating storm in decades to hit the country's most densely populated region upended man and nature as it rolled back the clock on 21st-century lives, cutting off modern communication and leaving millions without power as thousands who fled their water-damaged homes wondered when, and if, life would return to normal.

Superstorm Sandy killed at least 50 people, many hit by falling trees, and still wasn't finished. It inched inland across Pennsylvania, ready to bank toward western New York to dump more of its water and likely cause more havoc last night.

'Nature,' said New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, assessing the damage to his city, 'is an awful lot more powerful than we are.'

More than 8.2million households were without power in 17 states as far west as Michigan.

Nearly two million of those were in New York, where large swaths of lower Manhattan lost electricity and entire streets ended up underwater - as did seven subway tunnels between Manhattan and Brooklyn at one point.

The New York Stock Exchange was closed for a second day from weather, the first time that has happened since a blizzard in 1888.

The shutdown of mass transit crippled a city where more than 8.3million bus, subway and local rail trips are taken each day, and 800,000 vehicles cross bridges run by the transit agency.

Images from around the storm-affected areas depicted scenes reminiscent of big-budget disaster movies.

In Atlantic City, New Jersey, a gaping hole remained where once a stretch of boardwalk sat by the sea. In Queens, New York, rubble from a fire that destroyed as many as 100 houses in an evacuated beachfront neighborhood jutted into the air at ugly angles against a gray sky.

In heavily flooded Hoboken, New Jersey, across the Hudson River from Manhattan, dozens of yellow cabs sat parked in rows, submerged in murky water to their windshields. At the ground zero construction site in lower Manhattan, seawater rushed into a gaping hole under harsh floodlights.

One of the most dramatic tales came from lower Manhattan, where a failed backup generator forced New York University's Langone Medical Center to relocate more than 200 patients, including 20 babies from neonatal intensive care.

Dozens of ambulances lined up in the rainy night and the tiny patients were gingerly moved out, some attached to battery-powered respirators as gusts of wind blew their blankets.
Airports were shut across the East Coast and far beyond as tens of thousands of travelers found they couldn't get where they were going.

John F Kennedy International Airport in New York and Newark International Airport in New Jersey will reopen at 7am this morning with limited service, but LaGuardia Airport will stay closed, officials said.

Sandy began in the Atlantic and knocked around the Caribbean - killing nearly 70 people - and strengthened into a hurricane as it chugged across the southeastern coast of the United States.

By last night it had ebbed in strength but was joining up with another, more wintry storm - an expected confluence of weather systems that earned it nicknames like 'superstorm' and, on Halloween eve, 'Frankenstorm'.

Atlantic City's fabled Boardwalk, the first in the nation, lost several blocks when Sandy came through, though the majority of it remained intact even as other Jersey Shore boardwalks were dismantled.

What damage could be seen on the coastline Tuesday was, in some locations, staggering - 'unthinkable,' New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said of what unfolded along the Jersey Shore, where houses were swept from their foundations and amusement park rides were washed into the ocean. 'Beyond anything I thought I would ever see.' - DailyMail

Skeletal Remains Found in Tree Roots Upended by Hurricane

A homeless woman made a spooky Halloween’s eve discovery on the Upper Green: bones from a centuries-old human body unearthed by a giant oak tree toppled by Superstorm Sandy.

The woman, Katie Carbo, made the discovery around 3:15 p.m. near the corner of College and Chapel streets. Visible among the roots of the tree is the back of skull, upside down, with its mouth open (pictured). It is still connected to a spine and rib cage.

Carbo called police, who confirmed the discovery. Detectives headed to the scene to investigate.

Sgt. Anthony Zona said the police do not suspect foul play. He noted that that part of the Green long ago served as a burial ground.

“That body has probably been there a long, long time,” Zona said.

“Twenty-four years on the job,” he added, “and different things just happen all the time.” Continue reading / photos at New Haven Independent

Is paranormal activity on the increase? More ghost sightings reported to police

Ghosts are spooking the streets of South Wales, if reports to police are to be believed.

A list of supernatural sightings released by South Wales Police on the eve of Halloween reveal that hauntings are on the increase.

Those fearing visits from the afterlife may be concerned to learn that officers were called to five ghoulish incidents in the past 12 months, an increase of two from figures released the previous year.

Since 2007 there have been three reports made to police in Cardiff, four in Swansea, one in Bridgend and one in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Wayne Spurrier is the director of Haunted Happenings who run ghost hunting tours in Margam Park and Abergavenny’s Skirrid Inn.

He said: “South Wales is very haunted. We have experienced activity whenever we have held events in Wales.

“I guess people have to be fairly frightened to call the police but in our experience nobody has ever been hurt by a ghost.

“I explain the presence of a ghost as a repeat of something that happened in the past, an event or movement that is being repeated, that hasn’t gone away.

“Somebody might see a soldier on horseback wielding a sword coming towards them, but they are not in danger, it is just an image of something that happened in that spot many years earlier.”

Wayne added: “We also hear from people who have maybe seen someone lying injured on the side of the road, but when they’ve approached them the person has disappeared.

“Something like that could easily trigger a concerned member of the public to call the police.”

Exorcising demons from possessed souls and removing poltergeists from Welsh homes are two of the more unusual jobs taken on by the Bishop of Monmouth.

Bishop Dominic Walker, is a trained exorcist and said clergy across his diocese deal with two or three cases of “property possession” at any one time.

He said: “When people turn to us for help they’re normally fairly desperate.

“We get people saying ‘we’ve got a ghost, we’ve got poltergeist activity, I feel there’s a presence in my house which I don’t like’ and people get very disturbed.”

Last year South Wales Police revealed the force had received three reports of zombies and two of werewolves being spotted in neighbourhoods. There were also two sightings of vampires and six sightings of witches.

Speaking at the time, Superintendent Tony Smith said: “South Wales Police does get the odd weird and wonderful call, but residents and visitors needn’t worry about a supernatural invasion just yet. At the moment, we’re still in the business of keeping South Wales safe from crime rather than zombies or werewolves.” - Wales Online

Flat-Earthers still exist

Members of the Flat Earth Society claim to believe the Earth is flat. Walking around on the planet's surface, it looks and feels flat, so they deem all evidence to the contrary, such as satellite photos of Earth as a sphere, to be fabrications of a "round Earth conspiracy" orchestrated by NASA and other government agencies.

The belief that the Earth is flat has been described as the ultimate conspiracy theory. According to the Flat Earth Society's leadership, its ranks have grown by 200 people (mostly Americans and Britons) per year since 2009. Judging by the exhaustive effort flat-earthers have invested in fleshing out the theory on their website, as well as the staunch defenses of their views they offer in media interviews and on Twitter, it would seem that these people genuinely believe the Earth is flat.
But in the 21st century, can they be serious? And if so, how is this psychologically possible?

Through a flat-earther's eyes

First, a brief tour of the worldview of a flat-earther: While writing off buckets of concrete evidence that Earth is spherical, they readily accept a laundry list of propositions that some would call ludicrous. The leading flat-earther theory holds that Earth is a disc with the Arctic Circle in the center and Antarctica, a 150-foot-tall wall of ice, around the rim. NASA employees, they say, guard this ice wall to prevent people from climbing over and falling off the disc. Earth's day and night cycle is explained by positing that the sun and moon are spheres measuring 32 miles (51 kilometers) that move in circles 3,000 miles (4,828 km) above the plane of the Earth. (Stars, they say, move in a plane 3,100 miles up.) Like spotlights, these celestial spheres illuminate different portions of the planet in a 24-hour cycle. Flat-earthers believe there must also be an invisible "antimoon" that obscures the moon during lunar eclipses.

Furthermore, Earth's gravity is an illusion, they say. Objects do not accelerate downward; instead, the disc of Earth accelerates upward at 32 feet per second squared (9.8 meters per second squared), driven up by a mysterious force called dark energy. Currently, there is disagreement among flat-earthers about whether or not Einstein's theory of relativity permits Earth to accelerate upward indefinitely without the planet eventually surpassing the speed of light. (Einstein's laws apparently still hold in this alternate version of reality.)

As for what lies underneath the disc of Earth, this is unknown, but most flat-earthers believe it is composed of "rocks."

Then, there's the conspiracy theory: Flat-earthers believe photos of the globe are photoshopped; GPS devices are rigged to make airplane pilots think they are flying in straight lines around a sphere when they are actually flying in circles above a disc. The motive for world governments' concealment of the true shape of the Earth has not been ascertained, but flat-earthers believe it is probably financial. "In a nutshell, it would logically cost much less to fake a space program than to actually have one, so those in on the Conspiracy profit from the funding NASA and other space agencies receive from the government," the flat-earther website's FAQ page explains.

It's no joke

The theory follows from a mode of thought called the "Zetetic Method," an alternative to the scientific method, developed by a 19th-century flat-earther, in which sensory observations reign supreme. "Broadly, the method places a lot of emphasis on reconciling empiricism and rationalism, and making logical deductions based on empirical data," Flat Earth Society vice president Michael Wilmore, an Irishman, told Life's Little Mysteries. In Zetetic astronomy, the perception that Earth is flat leads to the deduction that it must actually be flat; the antimoon, NASA conspiracy and all the rest of it are just rationalizations for how that might work in practice.
Those details make the flat-earthers' theory so elaborately absurd it sounds like a joke, but many of its supporters genuinely consider it a more plausible model of astronomy than the one found in textbooks. In short, they aren't kidding.

"The question of belief and sincerity is one that comes up a lot," Wilmore said. "If I had to guess, I would probably say that at least some of our members see the Flat Earth Society and Flat Earth Theory as a kind of epistemological exercise, whether as a critique of the scientific method or as a kind of 'solipsism for beginners.' There are also probably some who thought the certificate would be kind of funny to have on their wall. That being said, I know many members personally, and I am fully convinced of their belief."

Wilmore counts himself among the true believers. "My own convictions are a result of philosophical introspection and a considerable body of data that I have personally observed, and which I am still compiling,” he said.

Strangely, Wilmore and the society's president, a 35-year-old Virginia-born Londoner named Daniel Shenton, both think the evidence for global warming is strong, despite much of this evidence coming from satellite data gathered by NASA, the kingpin of the "round Earth conspiracy." They also accept evolution and most other mainstream tenets of science.

Conspiracy theory psychology

As inconceivable as their belief system seems, it doesn't really surprise experts. Karen Douglas, a psychologist at the University of Kent in the United Kingdom who studies the psychology of conspiracy theories, says flat-earthers' beliefs cohere with those of other conspiracy theorists she has studied.

"It seems to me that these people do generally believe that the Earth is flat. I'm not seeing anything that sounds as if they're just putting that idea out there for any other reason," Douglas told Life's Little Mysteries.

She said all conspiracy theories share a basic thrust: They present an alternative theory about an important issue or event, and construct an (often) vague explanation for why someone is covering up that "true" version of events. "One of the major points of appeal is that they explain a big event but often without going into details," she said. "A lot of the power lies in the fact that they are vague."

The self-assured way in which conspiracy theorists stick to their story imbues that story with special appeal. After all, flat-earthers are more adamant that the Earth is flat than most people are that the Earth is round (probably because the rest of us feel we have nothing to prove). "If you're faced with a minority viewpoint that is put forth in an intelligent, seemingly well-informed way, and when the proponents don't deviate from these strong opinions they have, they can be very influential. We call that minority influence," Douglas said.

In a recent study, Eric Oliver and Tom Wood, political scientists at the University of Chicago, found that about half of Americans endorse at least one conspiracy theory, from the notion that 9/11 was an inside job to the JFK conspiracy. "Many people are willing to believe many ideas that are directly in contradiction to a dominant cultural narrative," Oliver told Life's Little Mysteries. He says conspiratorial belief stems from a human tendency to perceive unseen forces at work, known as magical thinking.

However, flat-earthers don't fit entirely snugly in this general picture. Most conspiracy theorists adopt many fringe theories, even ones that contradict each other. Meanwhile, flat-earthers' only hang-up is the shape of the Earth. "If they were like other conspiracy theorists, they should be exhibiting a tendency toward a lot of magical thinking, such as believing in UFOs, ESP, ghosts, the Devil, or other unseen, intentional forces," Oliver wrote in an email. "It doesn't sound like they do, which makes them very anomalous relative to most Americans who believe in conspiracy theories." - Yahoo

Readers' Paranormal Experiences

For the most part, I think that actual paranormal experiences convey a higher degree of fear and foreboding as compared to the standard ghost stories that are told with limited modification...except for the time and location. Over the years, I have received many interesting narratives from readers. Here are a few random offerings for this Halloween season:

GLARING SPIRITS

We were at the cemetery for the burial of my sister's mother-in-law. It was a cold winter day & I decided to wait in the car with my elderly mother while my niece and sister proceeded to the burial site where she would be interned.

A few minutes after they had left the vehicle, I noticed 3 apparitions pass in front of the car from left to right. It was like watching a movie. Each apparition stopped & glared at me for a moment before filing past.

The apparition I remember the most was that of a old man with a young girl maybe 2 or 3 years old. I could see them only from the waist up. Their clothing was from another period in time. I got the impression that she was sitting on his lap.

The other apparition was another old man who gave me a long, evil stare as he passed by the front of the car.

It took me awhile to figure out, but I really do believe that these spirits I saw were going to the gravesite to see the new person being buried.

Till this day I have never gone to that cemetery alone.

'FLYING' APPARITION

I've been trying to research my incident online and have come up with zero references for so perhaps some of your readers may have insight into it.

The other night, my son and I were on the couch in our apartment watching TV. All of the lights were off. Suddenly we both jumped at the same time as we saw a strange apparition fly by our balcony. We're on the third floor so not too high up and the door and curtains were open giving us a clear view to the outside. What we saw was large and judging from the distance between our building and the neighboring building which is approximately 60-70 ft away, it was halfway between the two.

It was a whitish, slightly opaque-like amorphous blob about 10ft by 15ft across. It moved as though it was like a cloud or a mist being blown in a very brisk wind, changing shape constantly. There was no noise aside from the usual street noises.

However, if it were that windy, a mist or cloud wouldn't retain its shape for that long. We saw it pass our balcony and then the further window in a straight line as though traveling toward some goal in the distance. The way it moved indicated that it was purposeful as though in a breeze yet the weird thing is there was no breeze at all. I went out later to test if there was wind and its speed and direction and noted that a very slight air movement was coming out of the north to the south and that thing was traveling in the opposite direction from the south to the north.

We both looked at each other afterward in amazement and said at the same time, "did you just see that? and Yes! What was that thing?!" We exchanged our brief descriptions of what we had both seen and tentatively looked out the balcony door to see if we could see it...but it was gone.

A side note...if it had been any sort of material traveling in a freak wind at that moment its direction, speed and height from the ground would have brought it directly into a grove of trees at the edge of the property where it would have been tangled in the branches or fallen to the ground in a parking lot and swept to the edges of the property into a chain link fence. Further searches of these areas have yielded nothing that would fit the description of this thing.

If anyone out there has seen or heard of such a thing I would sure love to know about your experiences or thoughts. Thanks kindly, Pema

BUSY HOUSE

On or about June of 2008, I was sitting in my living room watching TV at approx. 2:00pm, when a young blond haired boy burst through the wall next to my fireplace, and as he stared right straight at me, ran through the living room and disappeared into the dining room. I immediately froze from shock and surprise. Then after a moment gathered myself and ran after him. But he had disappeared. When I mentioned something about it to a neighbor, he said that it must be Josh. Josh lived in our home in the 1980s, and was hit and killed by a car one block away. This is but one of many events that occur in our home.

My husband has witnessed two men come down our hallway in the middle of the night and turn into the spare bedroom only to disappear.

Back in June 2009, as I again sat watching TV at about 10:30pm, the vertical blinds on the window behind me suddenly blew out from the bottom like a great wind had blown them. Not thinking that I had already closed the windows for the night, I went to close the window and found that it was already closed, but that it was perfectly calm outside. I immediately went to bed as I was pretty freaked out.

As I was again preoccupied watching the tube, something caught my eye in the hallway. You know how when you're in a darkened room, and someone opens the door from a brightly lit area you see the light around the edges of the doorway? Well I saw that same thing, only the doorway was opening in the middle of the hall. I have no idea what it was.

We have lived in our home for 6 yrs. and have experienced something odd at least once weekly. We don't feel these spirits are harmful and have grown used to such things. Unfortunately not all of our guests feel the same. Mickey

THE FLOATING WOMAN

About 12 years ago, before my stroke in October, 2004, my wife and I were driving from Florida to Leesburg, Virginia, to visit our daughter and son-in-law. We arrived in mid-afternoon while they were at work. Because their house had an alarm we decided to wait around outside until they came home. To kill time, we decided to make a visit to the nearest cemetery and just look at headstones. We are greatly interested in genealogy and just wanted to look around.

We were in the car and drove up a small rise in the road. We were moving very slow. All of a sudden there appeared a lady in a high necked white dress on our right. She seemed to float instead of walking. We came to a quick stop for fear of hitting her. I got out of the car to see if she needed any help. She did not answer me or appear to even see me. She moved across the road to the berm on the other side. THEN SHE DISAPPEARED. Just like that, vanished!!! All of a sudden I was alone on the road. My wife saw her too. THE NEXT DAY I WENT BACK TO THE CEMETERY AND TOLD THE CARETAKERS WHAT WE HAD SEEN. One man GOT UP FROM HIS CHAIR AND RAPIDLY LEFT THE ROOM. Another man remarked that several people have reported the apparition over the years. They had no idea who she was or what she was looking for. The Cemetery is the Union Cemetery in Leesburg, Va. It is not a UNION SOLDIER CEMETERY, THAT IS JUST THE NAME OF IT. They gave me 2 books that list everybody in the graves. I did not believe in ghosts until that time. I do now!! Chet.

'BOYS!'

We have experienced several different strange things in our house. The house isn't scary. It was built in 1963 by my wife's grandparents. In the first event, my wife took a picture of my step daughter in the living room and two light anomalies appeared in the picture. One had a palm of a hand in it. The other had the face of my wife's grandmother and great grandmother in it. There were also reflections in the back door window of her grandfather in one pane and 2 Yorkie dogs in another. Her Grandparents had Yorkies. Getting that picture enlarged to investigate further, my wife was standing in a line at a copier place, and guy working there asked why she needed that picture enlarged. She explained what the picture contained and the guy behind her in line took two steps backwards and turned and left after she gave him a look at the picture.

Two or three time we had the roll of toilet paper come completely unrolled in the front hall bathroom. I watched it happen one time. At times we hear loud bangs as if something had fallen but, I go to find out what had fallen and there's nothing there to make the noise.

One time we were watching TV on the living room sectional and one of the pillows started moving as if the cat was behind it. We watched it move a couple more times, thinking the cat would come out from behind it. I got up and moved the pillow and there was no reason for the pillow to move.

One evening, I was sitting in my recliner. My wife was on the sectional closest to me and my step daughter was laying on the other end of the sectional. My grand daughter was sitting on the coffee table when, between my wife and daughter, a voice whispered loudly "boys". Everyone heard it but, there was no possible explanation for the voice.

I would say that every day I will see something out of the corner of my eye and I turn to look but, no one or thing is there. We aren't afraid of this house because, the only people that have lived there was my wife's family. I understand that objects can have spirits attached to them. We do have several antiques that we have acquired over the years. Maybe something I've brought there had someone following along with it. We never know what will happen next. OKC

U-N-D-R B-R-I-D-G

This is a response to your article about Ouija boards. I thought I would tell you about an experience my sister had many years ago.

She was around 15 or so and was at a friend's house for a sleepover. Her and a few other friends decided to play with a Ouija board in their garage. Her friend's mother was at work and her father was in bed, so they had no supervision. While playing with the board they asked if anyone who wanted to speak to them. They got a YES, they asked for a name. They got M-O-M, they asked for a message. They got U-N-D-R B-R-I-D-G. They did not understand the message at the time.

Later, after they had gone on to bed, there was a knock at the front door. It was the local sheriff who had come to the house to tell the girl's father that his wife had been killed in a car accident on her way home from work that night. Her car was found submerged in water under a bridge just a few miles from their home.

To this day, my sister will not go near or even discuss the subject of Ouija boards.
