Daily 2 Cents: 'Wood Knocks' Review -- UFO Visits the Drive-In -- The Sun Has 'Gone Blank' Twice This Month

Wood Knocks - Volume 1: A Journal of Sasquatch Research

'Wood Knocks - Volume 1: A Journal of Sasquatch Research' is a superlative compilation of Bigfoot encounters and lore. David Weatherly has gathered and published the offerings of a few of today's finest cryptozoology researchers & writers.

The book starts off with Lyle Blackburn presenting the 'Giants of the Piney Woods' of the Gulf Coast and thickets of east Texas. Linda Godfrey adds her research of the Bigfoot of southern Wisconsin. David Weatherly offers the rich history of the 'furry ones' that inhabit the Navajo native lands of Arizona and New Mexico. British researcher Richard Muirhead details the Chinese Wildman or Yeren, including a more global view of the hairy hominid. Ken Gerhard examines Bigfoot evolution theories and the mannerisms recorded by witnesses and past researchers. Naturalist Richard Freeman appraises the Orang-Pendak and it's lore and history with the people of Indonesia. Micah Hanks discusses Bigfoot kidnappings in North American folklore. Finally, crypto author Nick Redfern comments on several of the supernatural possibilities associated with Bigfoot.

There is much more information available throughout this impressive volume. I highly recommend this book because I believe any cryptid enthusiast will enjoy and learn from this informative work.

UFO Visits the Drive-In

Jeremy in Burlington, Vermont called in to tell of his recent UFO sighting during a showing of Conjuring 2:

“I went to one of the last remaining drive-ins in Vermont on Friday night. Saw Conjuring 2. Enjoyed it immensely... At about probably 3 quarters of the way through the movie, I was distracted because it was a nice clear night out. The moon was out... I think it was a half moon and I noticed... this was what I think was right in the landing zone of the airport so planes are coming right overhead. I saw one light that I know wasn't a plane. And I don't think it was a satellite. Usually a satellite goes across the sky a little bit dimmer and quite a bit faster. This was a very intense bright light that moved across the sky. It took about five minutes to get from one viewing spot to the next, slowly through the sky. And I don't think it was a Chinese lantern or whatever they are called. It wasn't that kind of light. It was a pure white light, almost like a spotlight shining down. I was fascinated. Took me right out of the movie, I kept thinking, can like nobody see this thing going across the sky?”

The Sun Has ‘Gone Blank’ For the Second Time This Month

The sun is blank for the second time in less than a month — not a single dark sunspot mars its surface. It’s a sign our star is entering a new period of decreased activity — one that will continue to last for about five years. But, despite the overall decline, history has proven that some of the largest solar storms in memory can occur when sunspots appear to be ebbing.

The sun is a volatile star. Its surface changes on a 11-year solar cycle that oscillates between periods of increased and decreased sunspot production. Sunspots are dark areas on the surface of the sun that indicate intense magnetic activity — so strong, in fact, that it inhibits solar convection and thus reduces the temperature of the sun in that location. Sunspots can be just a few miles wide, but the largest can span 100,000 miles in diameter, or more than 12 Earths across. These massive spots can be seen on the surface of the sun without a telescope, and they can be just half as hot as their surroundings.

Sunspots are not just something for scientists to observe and track; their fluctuating existence has huge implications for our environment and technology here on Earth. Read more at The sun has ‘gone blank’ for the second time this month. Here’s what that means.
