Daily 2 Cents: Cryptid Photos Taken at Patuxent Research Refuge -- Mystery Carcass Found on Mexican Island -- Amityville Horror House For Sale...Again

Cryptid Photos Taken at Patuxent Research Refuge

Earlier today, Washington City Paper got a hot tip about an apparent sasquatch sighting in the Patuxent Research Refuge in Laurel, Md.

The tipster, Jeremy—who asked us not to publish his last name—tells City Desk that yesterday morning, as he was driving on Brock Bridge Road near Suburban Airport, he spotted what he thinks is a sasquatch.

"I saw what I thought was a bear and so I pulled over to take some pictures," he says. But when Jeremy got a closer look, he noticed the animal, which he estimates was about six or seven feet tall, was walking on two legs. "Bears usually walk on all four feet. I know they can walk on two, but he was wading through water in two feet, which I thought was strange," he says. For nearly ten minutes Jeremy watched and snapped pictures of the beast. At no point did it walk on four legs, which he thought was strange and led him to believe he was witnessing the mythical beast.

Though it has never been proven that a sasquatch—sometimes known as "Bigfoot" or "Yeti"—does or ever has existed, sightings of the majestic hairy creature date back to the mid-1800s, and there's been more than 3,000 total alleged sightings. According to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, there have been a total of 35 alleged sightings in Maryland since 1970. Two of them have been—get this—in the Patuxent Research Refuge.

The refuge, which the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service operates, was established in 1936 by President Franklin Roosevelt and is "the nation's only national wildlife refuge established to support wildlife research." Which means the easy explanation for all of this is that it's simply a big bear that likes walking on two legs instead of four. In fact, Jeremy's girlfriend, who was with him during the sighting, suggested as much.

"I've driven by there hundreds of times and have never seen anything like it," Jeremy says. "I doubt I'll ever see something like this again." - Alleged Sasquatch Sighting in Laurel, Md.

NOTE: This area is known for the infamous 'Goatman'...though, there have been several Bigfoot sightings in the refuge as well. Lon

Journalist's Terrifying Experience

Interest in the infamous "Enfield Poltergeist" case abounds, as audiences prepare for the Friday release of "The Conjuring 2″ — a supernatural thriller that is based on a British family's real-life claims in the late 1970s that they were terrorized by a malevolent spirit.

But just how verifiable is the story behind the Hollywood flick? As The Blaze has reported, there's been a fair bit if debate over the veracity of the Hodgsons' claims, but British journalist Michael Hellicar told The Church Boys this week about his terrifying experience investigating happenings in the Hodgson family home during the late 1970s — one that he said was filled with events that were beyond explanation.

It was in 1977 that Hellicar — then a chief reporter for the Daily Mirror — was sent to the Hodgson home to verify some of the strange happenings that another reporter and photographer from the paper purportedly observed.

"I was the paper's chief writer at the time, so I was sent along really to verify everything that they reported back just to see if there was any way that they were being fooled," recalled Hellicar, who is now a reporter with the Daily Mail.

After arriving unannounced and heading into the kitchen, the reporter claims that a series of strange events unfolded. Read more at Journalist who investigated "Enfield poltergeist" reveals his terrifying experience

Mystery Carcass Found on Mexican Island

The body of the creature was said to be "in such a bad state of decomposition, experts could not determine what it was," according to local Mexican media outlet BCS Noticias.

However, its haunting appearance has baffled people around the world, who claim the specimen could even be a 'humanoid fish' or some form of alien creature.

The as-yet unidentifiable specimen was found on the rocks of Cerralvo Island near the Mexican coast of Baja California Sur.

The fisherman who filmed the footage of the creature can be heard saying: "This animal is the devil or a mermaid, who knows which one.

"It has a tail, hair, a mouth like a human but two horns. This is a rare animal."

In the background of the video, one of his colleagues insists the animal was a half-human-half-fish creature – not unlike a mermaid.

NOTE: Mmmm....looks like an iguana to me. Lon

Amityville Horror House For Sale...Again

The infamous house which inspired the Amityville Horror book and movies is selling for $850,000 USD.

112 Ocean Avenue had all the hallmarks of the perfect family home until, on one fateful day in 1974, 23-year-old Ronald DeFeo went on a killing spree which saw him murder his parents and all four of his siblings in the early hours of the morning while most of them were still asleep in their beds.

Initially insisting that the deaths had been the work of a hitman, DeFeo later confessed and was sentenced to six consecutive life sentences in jail - a term he continues to serve to this day.

The house in which the incident took place would go on to become the setting of Jay Anson's popular book 'The Amityville Horror' which focused on paranormal occurrences at the property.

A series of movies, including the 1979 classic of the same name, would also be made.

Now though, over four decades since the murders took place, the original Amityville Horror house has actually been put up for sale and can be purchased for the grand sum of $850,000.

"A friend of mine from high school, his family owned it," said broker Jerry O’Neil. "I spent a lot of time in this house as a kid. It’s a beautiful home. Local people refer to this story not as the Amityville horror but as the Amityville hoax. The only horror about this house was that a family was murdered."

Whether anyone will actually want to purchase the house however remains to be seen. - Amityville Horror house up for sale in Long Island, New York
