Daily 2 Cents: The Wolf Woman of Mobile -- Parallel Universe Contact -- Strange Hitchhiker

The Wolf Woman of Mobile: Original Drawing Recently Found

The half-wolf, half woman creature so frightened the citizenry of Mobile that people began calling The Press-Register to report the sightings. On April 8, 1971, the newspaper reported the phenomenon, complete with a drawing of the creature conceived by a newspaper illustrator: "Listening to as many as 50 phone calls the Press Register has received, day and night, in approximately a week, you wonder if perhaps there isn't something out there."

Witnesses described the creature as "pretty and hairy," and "the top half was a woman and the bottom was a wolf." An unnamed teenager is quoted as saying: "My daddy saw it down in a marsh and it chased him home. Now, my mommy keeps all the doors and windows locked." One witness had heard the creature had escaped from a circus sideshow.

The reporter said the fear of witnesses seemed real, although the initial reports would have begun on April Fool's Day. The police were getting calls, too, and although officers would not make an official comment, they did investigate to determine what, exactly, Mobile's citizens were seeing. Sightings of half-wolf, half human creatures have been reported throughout history, with the werewolf being the most common incarnation. The legends of anthropomorphic creatures stem from American Indian folklore and capture the imagination. Within days, sightings of the Wolf Woman of Mobile stopped and have not been reported since.

Strange Hitchhiker

No date given – Needles, Arizona

Jim in St. Paul Minnesota called in to Darkness Radio to tell his story.

“The wife and I were driving. I drove tractor trailer for a company called (sounds like) Beaton's Vanlines (?) for trade-shows and we were coming out of Arizona heading east on 40. Well, we come out of Needles and I figure we were about 10 miles into the trip going east and there was this person walking along the highway in a yellow raincoat. It looked like one of those fisherman of the sea type deals. He had two suitcases and three quarter inch raincoat on just waking down the highway at 4 o'clock in the morning. We made it up to the truck-stop which was almost one hundred miles away. We stopped in there, we got fuel, grabbed a bite to eat and pulled back out. Ten minutes on the highway there's a route there that runs into Mexico, right before New Mexico called Route 666. As soon as we passed that route, there's the same person hitchhiking walking down the street. Now that scared us. I've never. All the years of travelling, running the road, ever seen anything like that. It was like 75, 80, 90 degrees. It was just strange to see someone walking down that interstate because you never see someone interstate walking, carrying two little suitcases. Never hitchhiking, never looked up and we went right by him and we were like, Oh my god, I can't believe this and then like two hours later here's this guy ahead of us... it was unreal.”

A Massive Asteroid Will Whiz By the Earth on Halloween

Scientists have revealed that a high-speed asteroid will streak past our planet at the end of the month.

Measuring 470 meters in diameter, the enormous space rock will pass within 310,000 miles of the Earth - that's approximately 30 percent further away from us than the orbit of the moon.

Believed to be part of a broken comet, the object will be visible with a telescope as it crosses the constellation Orion and will be the largest known asteroid to fly this close for quite some time.

While the near-miss is good news for amateur astronomers and represents no impact threat, the asteroid's sudden discovery a mere ten days before its closest approach has raised concerns over mankind's ability to detect potentially dangerous objects heading in our direction.

While asteroid deflection techniques could make it possible to change the course of a large asteroid while it is still far out in space, such methods would do little good when the object is this close to us.

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden summed up this concern during a talk back in 2013.

"From the information we have, we don't know of an asteroid that will threaten the population of the United States," he said. "But if it's coming in three weeks… pray." - A Massive Asteroid Will Whiz By the Earth on Halloween

Parallel Universe Contact

The staggeringly complex LHC ‘atom smasher’ at the CERN centre in Geneva, Switzerland, will be fired up to its highest energy levels ever in a bid to detect – or even create – miniature black holes.

If successful a completely new universe will be revealed – rewriting not only the physics books but the philosophy books too.

It is even possible that gravity from our own universe may ‘leak’ into this parallel universe, scientists at the LHC say.

The experiment is sure to inflame alarmist critics of the LHC, many of whom initially warned the high energy particle collider would spell the end of our universe with the creation a black hole of its own.

But so far Geneva remains intact and comfortably outside the event horizon.

Indeed the LHC has been spectacularly successful. First scientists proved the existence of the elusive Higgs boson ‘God particle’ – a key building block of the universe – and it is seemingly well on the way to nailing ‘dark matter’ – a previously undetectable theoretical possibility that is now thought to make up the majority of matter in the universe.

But next week’s experiment is considered to be a game changer.

Mir Faizal, one of the three-strong team of physicists behind the experiment, said: “Just as many parallel sheets of paper, which are two dimensional objects [breadth and length] can exist in a third dimension [height], parallel universes can also exist in higher dimensions.

“We predict that gravity can leak into extra dimensions, and if it does, then miniature black holes can be produced at the LHC.

“Normally, when people think of the multiverse, they think of the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics, where every possibility is actualised.

“This cannot be tested and so it is philosophy and not science.

“This is not what we mean by parallel universes. What we mean is real universes in extra dimensions.

“As gravity can flow out of our universe into the extra dimensions, such a model can be tested by the detection of mini black holes at the LHC.

“We have calculated the energy at which we expect to detect these mini black holes in ‘gravity’s rainbow’ [a new scientific theory].

“If we do detect mini black holes at this energy, then we will know that both gravity’s rainbow and extra dimensions are correct.”

When the LHC is fired up the energy is measured in Tera electron volts – a TeV is 1,000,000,000,000, or one trillion, electron Volts

So far, the LHC has searched for mini black holes at energy levels below 5.3 TeV.

But the latest study says this is too low.

Instead, the model predicts that black holes may form at energy levels of at least 9.5 TeV in six dimensions and 11.9 TeV in 10 dimensions. - Scientists At Large Hadron Collider Hope To Make Contact With Parallel Universe In Days
