Looking Forward to 2016

Hi folks...I invision 2016 as a year of growth for Phantoms & Monsters and other interests that I'm involved with...in particular Arcane Radio, P&M Fortean Research & Astral Perceptions International. I also want to reassure you that the newsletter will continue as a regular publication w/o subscription fees.

It would be great that readers / friends / colleagues spread the word about the newsletter. Increasing the subscriber list will make it easier to entice sponsors and encourage writers to submit their material.

For years, I've tried a variety of advertising schemes in order to raise revenue. Unfortunately...these programs tend to add inconvenience to the readers and drive away interest. Some of these advertising platforms performed very well and generated decent earnings, but significantly slowed down load times and browsing viability. So I've decided to leave it up to the readers. If you feel that I'm providing a decent product, then you determine how much it's worth to you.

I will continue posting links to Amazon.com products, in particular books, because it integrates well with the format. Anytime you use one of those links, any items you purchase while browsing Amazon.com during that session, will generate a commission to Phantoms & Monsters.

Mobile application availability of Phantoms & Monsters material will be taking a huge step forward in 2016. There will be free and fee-based applications available (will announce releases), including a few neat wrinkles.

Arcane Radio will also see technology and presentation development. Do you have suggestions? Let us know.

All in all, with current & new investigations, there should be a lot to look forward to. Thanks for reading & listening. Lon

Daily 2 Cents: Hung, Drawn and Quartered Skeleton of Saint Found -- Time Slip in Rome -- The Real Story Behind the Bell Witch

Hung, drawn and quartered skeleton found in Welsh pub could be English saint

A pile of bones discovered in a Welsh pub could be the last remains of an English saint who was hung, drawn and quartered in the 17th Century for his religious beliefs.

The bones, found 140 years ago in the Olde Star Inn next to St Winefride’s Well, Holywell, North Wales, were discovered bundled in 17th Century children’s clothing and hidden inside an old trunk.

Recent forensic tests by specialists at the University of Edinburgh established the bones, which included part of a skull and a leg, belonged to a priest who had undergone the macabre Elizabethan punishment in the late 17th Century.

Further circumstantial evidence has suggested the bones belong to St John Plessington, a Catholic priest executed in 1679 and known as one of the “Forty Martyrs of England and Wales”.

St John was executed in Chester after being found guilty of treason under Elizabethan laws that made being a Catholic Priest an offence.

He was beatified in 1929 by Pope Pius XI, and canonized and made one of the Forty Martyrs in 1970 by Pope Paul VI.

The Forty Martyrs are a group of Catholic men and women executed for treason and other related offences in England between 1535 and 1679. Read more at Hung, drawn and quartered skeleton found in Welsh pub could be English saint

Time Slip in Rome

No date given – Rome, Italy

Becky told Dave Schrader, who was hosting Coast To Coast about something bizarre that happened to her mother.

My mom had an experience in Rome once that we always thought of as a strange experience but however after listening to the show, I'm wondering if it's some sort of time travel. We were in Rome on vacation when I was maybe 12 years old because of an unexpected train strike we only got to spend one day in Rome. Well, you can't go to Rome and not see the Coliseum. My mom, dad, sister and our friends and I went on a tour. When you see the Coliseum, there are only a few places to walk. You can look down into all the different levels of the structure. The tour guide will tell, this is where the slaves were, this is where they kept the animals etc. And as we were walking through, I looked over at my mom she had turned sheet white. She was shaking and trembling. She asked to leave. And so we left the tour and went back to find a cold place to sit down. When we finally got mom to talk, she told us that she had been in a different time. She could smell the blood, the roar of the crowd, She said that none of us were with her. She could hear the screams of the slaves and the noises of the animals. She said she was overwhelmed by the smells and sounds and said she had to leave. Several years later we returned to Italy and the Coliseum but did not have the same experience. To this day, she still says that the event was too vivid to be a dream or part of her imagination. So, I don't know, was she somehow transported into a different time or had a fleeting moment of psychic sensitivity?”

Plague confirmed in Oregon teen

A teenage girl in Crook County, Oregon is in the ICU recovering from a case of bubonic plague, according to the Oregon Health Authority and the Crook County Public Health Department.

Health officials believe she contracted the bacteria from an infected flea during a hunting trip earlier this month in Morrow County, Oregon.

According to a press release, the young woman began feeling sick on October 21 and was hospitalized in Bend, Oregon on October 24.

Plague is rare in Oregon, with only eight human cases diagnosed since 1995 and no deaths, according to the Oregon Health Authority.

The plague usually occurs in rural and semi-rural areas of the western United States, most commonly in New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado.

How they survived bubonic plague, just barely

The bacteria that causes the plague is naturally occurring in the environment. Humans become infected by fleas who have fed off of infected rodents such as rats, chipmunks and squirrels.

Symptoms usually occur in two to six days after exposure and include an overall feeling of sickness, sudden fever, abdominal pain, swollen lymph nodes, nausea and vomiting. It is successfully treated with antibiotics when caught early.

There have been 15 other human cases of the plague in the United States this year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Four of those patients have died.

The CDC is working with Oregon health officials as well as local health officials in Crook, Deschutes and Marrow counties, to investigate this illness. Plague confirmed in Oregon teen

Psychic says she knows real story behind Bell Witch

There's a new story to tell in the Adams-based legend of the Bell Witch.

A Mississippi clairvoyant, featured on A&E's upcoming five-part series, "Cursed, The Bell Witch," is claiming to know the real story behind the nearly 200-year-old tale, and she says she got it directly from Betsy Bell, who, according to the legend, was tortured for years by an unseen force on her family's farm.

"Some people will not agree with me, and that's OK, but I gave Betsy Bell a voice to say what really happened," said Sara Dulaney Pugh, better known as Angel Leigh, a clairvoyant from Leakesville, Miss.

"As a Christian, when I was told that this could be something evil, it scared me. I had to really pray about it. But once I talked to Betsy, I wanted to help as much as I could. For so many years, she was buried and couldn't tell the truth."

Pugh was three years old when she first started to see things that others couldn't, she said. For years, the visions terrified her, so she kept them a secret from virtually everyone she knew, except her parents.

"I would tell my mom, and she told me to pray about it," Pugh said. "If people had known the truth, I wouldn't have had the life I've had. I probably wouldn't have been a cheerleader. I probably wouldn't have had friends. I had a wonderful childhood, I really did, and it was because of my parents."

Now 29 years old, Pugh has been married for more than seven years and has two children of her own. About a year-and-a-half ago, she decided to open up about her past and join Mississippi Paranormal Investigations as a way to learn more about her abilities.

Her involvement with the group led to her appearance on the A&E show, she said.

Filming leads to book

In July, Pugh was introduced to Sue Clifton, a Mississippi-based author and ghost hunter. The two met while filming for the A&E series at Betsy Bell's grave in Yalobusha County, Miss. and, according to Clifton, they felt an immediate connection.

"I did not believe in mediums before I met Sara," said Clifton, 70, a former teacher turned author. "Neither of us knew each other's names, let alone anything else, before then, but Sara came up with things that night, personal things about my family that no one could possibly know.

"I was totally fascinated. She's the most intriguing person I've ever known, and that night when we were having a break, I told her 'I'm going to do a book about you.'"

Two months later, Clifton published "Through the Eyes of Angel Leigh," a book she co-authored with Pugh, chronicling Pugh's life, the people she's helped and her interpretation of the Bell Witch legend. Before it was released in September, Pugh insisted on a meeting with descendant Bob Bell, of Springfield, so she could tell him the story since it was about his family, Clifton said.

"That just speaks to what kind of person Sara is," Clifton said. "People can criticize all they want to, but I don't have to defend anything. I think Sara's story is the true account of what happened." Read more at Psychic says she knows real story behind Bell Witch

How Far Will They Go?

In the May 26, 2014 edition of Phantoms & Monsters, I posted the following information:

Is There A Bigfoot Conspiracy?

Over the past several months and since my appearance on 'Monsters and Mysteries in America' was first aired, I've received many inquiries concerning my encounter on May 9, 1981 near Sykesville, MD. To be honest, I've had a few lingering questions about my sighting as well...in particular, 'what did I actually see?' Was it a Bigfoot...or something else? At the time, I called it a 'Bigfoot' because, frankly, that was the only way I could have described it. It wasn't human...it wasn't an ape. I have tried to comprehend exactly what it was I witnessed.

One of the more consistent questions I have received concerns the quick reaction by officials after my phone call to local police. I feel that this being had been under close surveillance at the time I witnessed it. The only two scenarios that I feel may be plausible are either: 1) there were other witnesses that made reports earlier that day or, 2) this being had escaped from an unknown location.

The Sykesville Police Dept. have no records of what happened that day. No phone logs...no reports. In fact, the local police have no records of the '1973 Sykesville Monster' incidents either. I have made FOIA inquiries to all agencies who I feel where involved. No information has ever been forwarded to me.

This past Friday (May 23rd) I received a phone call from an investigator who lives in Maryland. We setup an interview for that evening.

The first question to me was, 'have I ever heard of a location in the Sykesville area referred to as 'the monkey house?' Apparently, one of the witnesses from 1973 had made a comment at the time that 'it (the Sykesville Monster) was probably from the monkey house.' None of the witnesses I talked to in 1981, after my encounter, ever mentioned 'the monkey house.'

I made a few inquiries during the past few days in reference to 'the monkey house.' According to one source, the original witness may have been referring to a two-story building that once stood near the present-day police & correctional training facility on Slacks Rd., which was located just south of the former sprawling Springfield Hospital Center. This building was officially designated as a laundry facility used by the state hospital. I recall the building and from what I remembered, it had significant security around it. I was told, at the time, that correctional inmates were kept there to launder clothing and linens as part of a work detail. Many locals questioned this explanation...it just didn't seem right. The moniker 'monkey house' may have been used, for the most part, by people who worked at Springfield. The building was eventually razed and replaced by a residential community.

The investigator stated that he was ex-USAF and had worked at a government facility north of Baltimore in Harford County in the early 1980's. I'm not going to named the location at this time, but it does still exist. He was part of a group of ex-military who were employed to perform general work around the facility. On one particularly hot & humid day, he and the crew were working outside of a specific building at this government facility. They had been told that they could walk inside the building if they needed a quick break & a drink of water. He states that he entered the building looking for a water fountain, but couldn't locate one. He walked deeper into the building and soon witnessed a 'large heavy reinforced door' that seemed out of place. The door had been damaged, as if it were rammed by something of significant size and power. By this time, he was approached by a woman in uniform who informed him that he was in a classified area and that he must leave immediately. He explained he was just looking for the water fountain. A security officer was now on the scene and he directed the witness to the water fountain. As they were heading toward the building exit, the witness inquired about the damaged door. The security officer only mentioned that the 'door was damaged by something confined behind it.'

After several years of scrutiny and questions, the investigator believes that the building was used for research and contained unknown bi-pedal beings that had somehow escaped between 1979-1984. He had received information that 20-34 individuals of both sexes had been in the building at some period. He also mentioned that during this period of time that there had been many Bigfoot sightings at Rocks State Park and Gunpowder Falls State Park...which are located near the government facility.

I had been aware of Bigfoot sightings in these locations over the years, but I don't know if these sightings are related to the aforementioned escapes. Of course, this information is completely anecdotal and based on one witness' account.

So, let's be hypothetical for a second. Is it possible that the being I witnessed near Sykesville, MD in 1981 was an escaped 'experiment?' Was there a facility in the Sykesville area, known to some as the 'monkey house'? Was there another incident, or series of incidents, at another facility in Maryland during the same time period?

I'd appreciate some feedback and/or information. Lon

Since the time of that post I have talked to several people who where aware or part of various government biological experiments. One facility that continued to come up in conversations was the Edgewood Arsenal in Harford County, Maryland...the same facility mentioned by the investigator from my May 2014 report.

A 1994 documentary titled 'Bad Trip to Edgewood' can be viewed here and starts by showing clips of animals being cruelly tested in the Edgewood laboratory with the voice over stating that animals were always tested before humans. The clips are highly disturbing. But then the documentary states that such experiments were not confined to animals.

The 'Medical Research Volunteer Program' was conducted at the facility between 1948 and 1975. The aim of the experiments was to analyze the impact of chemical warfare agents on military personnel to test the likes of vaccines, pharmaceuticals and protective clothing. It is now known that 7,000 soldiers and 1000 civilians were used as guinea pigs, half of which were tested with so-called 'psycho chemicals' and mind altering drugs. The 'medical volunteers' were never told what the chemicals were and when they asked what the drugs were they were told to 'not ask questions.'

But what is the actual extent of experimentation taking place at Edgewood and other facilities throughout the county? The location in Edgewood was later designated as the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD) — at the Edgewood Area, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. It is also known as the U.S. Army Research Development and Engineering Command - Edgewood Chemical Biological Center.

Soviet dictator Josef Stalin ordered the creation of ultra hominid warriors by crossing humans with apes, according to secret documents uncovered in 2005. In the mid-1920s Russia’s top animal breeding scientist, Ilya Ivanov, was ordered to turn his skills from horse and animal work to the quest for a super-warrior. According to Moscow newspapers, Stalin told the scientist: “I want a new invincible human being, insensitive to pain, resistant and indifferent about the quality of food they eat.” The project failed because the technology was not available.

Is it possible that the United States government embarked on a project remotely paralleling the Soviets?

Again, the investigator I interviewed stated:

"...the building was used for research and contained unknown bi-pedal beings that had somehow escaped between 1979-1984. He had received information that 20-34 individuals of both sexes had been in the building at some period. He also mentioned that during this period of time that there had been many Bigfoot sightings at Rocks State Park and Gunpowder Falls State Park...which are located near the government facility."

I will state now that this investigator was once employed by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) and continued as a private investigator after retiring from the military. As to his other resources, he did not disclose them to me.

There have been many hairy hominid sightings in Harford & Baltimore counties (Maryland)...north into Pennsylvania, west of the Susquehanna River, over the past 35 years. Not unlike my sighting near Sykesville, most of the descriptions were of human-like faces. In fact, many of the east coast hairy hominids share that distinction, as opposed to descriptions of ape-like features further west.

This all begs for another familiar question. Why haven't any of these beings ever been caught or found dead?

If bio-engineering is part of the development of these beings, who is to say that reverse engineered extraterrestrial technology has never been incorporated in the formulation of this or any other life-form? Could certain technology give these beings the ability to cloak or be multi-verse travelers? Who is to say that other unknown beings and/or bi-pedal cryptids can't possess similar traits? This may be a big drop into the rabbit-hole, but I will never discount man's willingness to venture ever closer to the creator.

Daily 2 Cents: Abduction Possibly Recorded on GPS -- Entity Attempted to Enter House -- Green Light Over Mt. Etna

Abduction Possibly Recorded on GPS

May 2013 – Exit Mile Marker 199 in Moriarty, New Mexico to Oklahoma City Mile Marker 143.

Joe in Arizona called in to Darkness Radio to tell his story.

“I'm a long haul truck driver. Let me preface my story by saying my truck has a GPS and a computer that monitors all my driving so that I always maintain legal. So I roll out one night at approximately 7 o'clock out of Moriarty, New Mexico headed eastbound. I gotta get to Springfield, Missouri. So I'm just driving along, putting along, next thing I know, I'm getting fuel in Oklahoma City and it's about 5 o'clock in the morning. Now that drive usually takes, approximately 7 hours. I didn't think nothing of it. I was just like I was driving at night, I was probably tired, you know. And I'm thinking about it and it doesn't feel like I drove, it feels like I watched me drive. It was just a really weird experience and I just didn't think nothing of it. I continued driving because I had a few hours left on my clock. I get a phone call from my boss at 8 AM that morning asking me what I did to my truck. Not understanding the question, I said, 'What do you mean what I did to my truck?' He goes, 'Your truck went off GPS about 40 miles east of Moriarty, New Mexico and re-appeared on GPS at 5 AM in Oklahoma City.' Now, he tells me, 'You had to have done something to your truck. Did you pull a fuse to run illegal?' I said, 'No, I never ran illegal before in my life.' Still not quite understanding what is going on, he sends me over to another one of my bosses who is in charge of being legal in the trucking industry and we're talking and she looks it up in the computer and she goes, 'Yeah, your log book's wrong too. It says that you were shut down and didn't drive for 4 hours during that 9 hour period.' I'm like, 'No, what could have done it because I don't know what could have done it?' She's like, 'Oh, this happens occasionally.' I was like, 'What do you mean occasionally?' She said, 'It usually happens to truck drivers two or three times a week, I see.' So I said, 'What can do this, I don't want this to happen again?' She said, 'Computer systems – the computer company just calls it a glitch.' I was like, 'You know, I've seen glitches in the computer and it's not glitching for 9 hours at at time.' Usually computer glitches are 4 or 5 minutes. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't think of it but I'm looking back on my own attitude about it and it's like, that's really weird because, here's me, I'm not, I just realized I'm in Oklahoma City... I shouldn't be here. And as I try to recall it, again, it's like I wasn't actually there, it was like I watching it happen.”

Host Dave Schrader asks if he just zoned out, which happens to people who drive the to the same places all the time.

“Under normal circumstances I would say you're absolutely right but it just happened to be at the exact same time that my computer glitches out. It shows that I drove around 500 miles and my GPS doesn't match my log book and my log book shows that I stopped the truck for 4 hours. That's another thing, I'm asking her... she says it happens 2 or 3 times a week. We have a fleet of 5000 trucks, 2 or 3 times a week, it could be just computer glitches. In all reality, it could just be computer glitches and we are just muscle memory it. But it just doesn't feel right because I've muscle memoried it a lot and I can still recall where a tire was in the road at mile mark so and so and what road but with this, I can't recall anything in detail. It seems like a fog.”

Dave offers to pay for a hypnotic regression and Joe reluctantly agrees. Not sure if there was any follow up on a later episode.

Entity Attempted to Enter House

Tucsan, AX: This event occurred at about 1:10 AM on March 14, 1997, about 18 miles southwest of Tucson, Arzona. At that time I was a 42 year old electronic engineer who operated a small home business, doing contract jobs for various clients. I had lived in Tucson for some time, and felt that the city was too noisy for me to concentrate on my work. I wanted to live in a quiet rural area where I would not be disturbed, and in 1996 I purchased a house in a sparsly populated area southwest of town. I had a neighbor across the road from me, and there was an unoccupied house furthur to the north. My property extended about 100 feet from the front of the house, and then there was a barbed wire fence. It had 5 wires, the top one being about 4 feet high. It was usually quite dark at night out there, however I had installed some floodlights on the front of the house, which I could turn on if needed. I went to bed around 10 PM, March 13, and was sleeping soundly when the event began. I was awakened around 1:10 AM, March 14 by the sound of someone attempting to open the bedroom window, about 6 feet away from me. The sound was like nails on a blackboard. The window was on the front of the house, and consisted of double-pane glass with track-locks on it, and a set of blinds which were closed. Although I could not see who was trying to get in, I had a profound feeling of being in mortal danger... as if whoever was outside meant to do something terrible to me. I've always had a good sensitivity to the feelings of people and animals, and I was confident that what I felt was genuine. As quickly as I could, I rolled out of bed, away from the direction of the window, and grabbed a 12 gauge shotgun from the closet. At this time my emotions changed from fear to intense anger and a strong determination to kill the attempted intruder, if he got in. I pumped a shell into the chamber, which made an audiable noise, then ran to the living room window, which was only about 10 feet from the bedroom window, also on the front of the house. That was where the switch for the floodlights was located. I hit the switch, and was totally shocked when I saw this thing, which was now moving away from the house towards the fence. I got a pretty good look at the back of it, for about 5 seconds. It was definitely not human. It was about 6-7 feet tall and had a large head, similar in shape to a football helmet. It was very thin and the arms were quite long. It wasn't exactly running, but it was moving smoothly and very quickly. It reached the fence in just a few seconds, and then, without slowing down, it jumped right over the fence like a hurdle jumper in the Olympics, and kept on going. It continued down to the wooded area where the unoccupied house was, and within about 30 seconds I saw a disk shaped object rise up from there, and move off towards the south. It was about 40 feet in diameter and passed by the front of my house at a distance of about 130 feet, about 60 feet above the ground. It had steady yellow-redish lights on the bottom of it and made no sound that I could hear. My state of mind collapsed into total shock and an overwhelming feeling of fear. All I could think of was what might happen if it came back. I spent the rest of the night virtually paralysed with fear, hiding behind a couch in the living room, clutching the shotgun. When the sun began to come up, I started to regain some of my senses. I carefully went outside and looked around. Everything seemed normal, except that by my bedroom window I found some footprints. There hadn't been much rain and the ground was rather hard, but a few of the impressions were fairly clear. The prints were about 10-11 inches in length, very thin, and with 3 large toes. I should have photographed them, but at the time my only concern was my own safety, and I decided to go to a hardware store and get some bolt locks to secure the doors. This I did, and on the way back I stopped at a small cafe a few miles from my house, to pick up some coffee and breakfast. I entered the cafe, ordered some food, and then noticed that a casual friend of mine was there. He lived in a trailer a few miles to the south of me. When I saw him I simply said "man, something really weird happened last night" and he replied "you're not kidding... a UFO came up the canyon". I was startled to hear that, and asked him "what time ?" and he replied "about a quarter past 1". When he said that I panicked and left the cafe without even taking my coffee or food. (Some months later I actually tried to find him, to ask him for some details, but I was told he had left the area back in March...) Anyway, I returned to the house and installed the locks on the doors. The following day I went into town and purchased a bunch of heavy plywood, and boarded up every window in the house. I didn't have a television and didn't happen to catch any reports about the so-called "Phoenix lights" until several years later. As to reporting the incident, I considered it but was doing some military contract jobs and was afraid that I might be typed as a lunatic or a security risk and lose my clearance... and in addition I simply had no desire to talk about it. The whole thing was just too disturbing. Eventually I moved away from that area, and although it's been a number of years since it happened, I'm only recently feeling able to talk about it. - MUFON CMS

Green Light Over Mt. Etna

During my daily early morning check on internet for seismic events in the Mediterranean area, I have today (30 October, 2015) noticed in the INGV (Italian National Geology and Vulcanology) these pictures running from 0642 to 0654 hrs local where a green cone shaped bright object appeared clearly. Then, at 0700 hrs and later, the object was not seen any longer.

The area where the object is seen is the peak of the volcano where several active vents open and which has undergone considerable morphological change during the past few years.

The thermal digital pictures were taken by the EMCT (Mount Cagliato thermal images) camera. Another picture in visible light at 0700 hrs local at the EMOV seismic station shows Etna's peak under snow which fell during stormy weather this night. - MUFON CMS

Death by Potatoes

A 55-year-old man was sentenced to seven years in prison on Wednesday for ending his older brother's life by shoving potatoes down his throat. A drunken fight between two brothers in northern Jutland, Denmark, left the elder brother dead and the younger one facing seven years behind bars.

The 55-year-old younger brother was acquitted of manslaughter but found guilty of violence causing death during a fight that occurred in November of last year. In the incident, both men had been drinking when a fight broke out. Prosecutors said that the younger man killed his 57-year-old brother by strangling him by hand and shoving potatoes down his throat. The younger brother also reportedly punched the elder repeatedly in the head and neck.

The 55-year-old called after an ambulance to say that his brother was lying unconscious in their shared house and rescue personnel arrived to find the elder dead with a potato lodged in his windpipe. The younger brother was arrested shortly thereafter. On Wednesday, the Hjørring District Court was split on the defendant’s actions. Three jury members and the three judges felt that there was enough evidence to convict the man on manslaughter charges while three other jury members thought that the man had not intended to kill his brother.

They pointed to the fact that he had attempted to fish the potatoes out of his older brother’s throat before calling for an ambulance. With the jury in disagreement, the man was convicted on the lesser charge of violence causing death. The defendant contended in court that his brother had either got two potatoes stuck in his throat by accident or had attempted to kill himself as a result of the fight. The court did not believe either explanation. - Dane jailed for killing his brother with potatoes

Owners of Infamous Haunted House Conjure Lawsuit

Back in April 2014, the owners of 'The Conjuring' house began to dispute the history of the haunting...subsequently posting this video. The following article was published on the WJAR TV 10 website:

The family that currently lives in the Harrisville house depicted in "The Conjuring" says the movie has made their lives a living nightmare.

Producers said last summer's film is based on the true story of the Perron family's haunted experiences decades ago.

Andrea Perron, who has written three books about the torment she says her family went through, with numerous ghosts, for over a decade starting in the 1970s, says the movie "The Conjuring" is a fictionalized account, but true in spirit, as to what really happened in that Harrisville house.

"Our story stands on its own merits and was well documented prior to the release of the truthful memoir or the fictionalized movie," Perron said.

While taping my first story about Perron's book, with the movie in pre-production, Norma Sutcliffe told me about some of what she and her husband experienced after buying the house in the 1980s.

"We were standing here and the door began to bang," she demonstrated during an interview in February 2012.

But now, after the movie hit the big screen, Sutcliffe has backtracked.

"Our lives have been devastated by the release of this movie. The movie industry and all involved never bothered to consider the consequences to us," Sutcliffe now says.

Sutcliffe has posted an hour-long YouTube rebuttal, challenging the history that led to the movie and that turned their lives upside down.

"We began to witness cars arriving up front day after day, pointing out the house," Sutcliffe says in the video, "driving down our driveway to take photos."

The movie has fractured the nearly 30-year friendship between Perron and Sutcliffe. But after many attempts, Sutcliffe wouldn't sit down with NBC 10 for an interview.

Perron said she's sad this is happening.

"There are an awful lot of people in the paranormal community who are writing to me and saying, 'Andrea, you know as well as we do, you cannot live in a haunted house, deny the spirits that you dwell with and expect that there will not be any retribution,'" Perron said.

"We will never feel safe or secure again. We have forever lost our sense of peace and privacy. And as long as we live here we will never feel that peace and for anyone else in the future," Sutcliffe said.

As a result, the Sutcliffes have filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros., claiming they are harassed by visitors & ghost hunters who seem to pay no mind to property laws and 'No Trespassing' signs, causing damage and entering their house. The Sutcliffes also claim that they didn’t know that the story would be made into a movie...which I find a bit hard to believe.

Classic Tales For Halloween

Since the Halloween season is upon us, I hope you enjoy these classic & legendary tales:

The Benevolent Goblin

By Gesta Romanorum - In the kingdom of England there is a hillock in the midst of a dense wood. Thither in old days knights and their followers were wont to repair when tired and thirsty after the chase. When one of their number called out, "I thirst!" there immediately started up a Goblin with a cheerful countenance, clad in a crimson robe, and bearing in his outstretched hand a large drinking-horn richly ornamented with gold and precious jewels, and full of the most delicious, unknown beverage.

The Goblin presented the horn to the thirsty knight, who drank and instantly felt refreshed and cool. After the drinker had emptied the horn, the Goblin offered a silken napkin to wipe the mouth. Then, without waiting to be thanked, the strange creature vanished as suddenly as he had come.

Now once there was a knight of churlish nature, who was hunting alone in those parts. Feeling thirsty and fatigued, he visited the hillock and cried out:

"I thirst!"

Instantly the Goblin appeared and presented the horn.

When the knight had drained it of its delicious beverage, instead of returning the horn, he thrust it into his bosom, and rode hastily away.

He boasted far and wide of his deed, and his feudal lord hearing thereof caused him to be bound and cast into prison; then fearing lest he, too, might become partaker in the theft and ingratitude of the knight, the lord presented the jeweled horn to the King of England, who carefully preserved it among the royal treasures. But never again did the benevolent Goblin return to the hillock in the wood.

The Old Witch

By The Brothers Grimm - There was once a little girl who was very wilful and who never obeyed when her elders spoke to her - so how could she be happy?

One day she said to her parents, 'I have heard so much of the old witch that I will go and see her. People say she is a wonderful old woman, and has many marvellous things in her house, and I am very curious to see them.'

But her parents forbade her going, saying, 'The witch is a wicked old woman, who performs many godless deeds - and if you go near her, you are no longer a child of ours.'

The girl, however, would not turn back at her parents' command, but went to the witch's house. When she arrived there the old woman asked her:

'Why are you so pale?'

'Ah,' she replied, trembling all over, 'I have frightened myself so with what I have just seen.'

'And what did you see?' inquired the old witch.

'I saw a black man on your steps.'

'That was a collier,' replied she.

'Then I saw a gray man.'

'That was a sportsman,' said the old woman.

'After him I saw a blood-red man.'

'That was a butcher,' replied the old woman.

'But, oh, I was most terrified,' continued the girl, 'when I peeped through your window, and saw not you, but a creature with a fiery head.'

'Then you have seen the witch in her proper dress,' said the old woman. 'For you I have long waited, and now you shall give me light.'

So saying the witch changed the little girl into a block of wood, and then threw it on the fire. When it was fully alight, she sat down on the hearth and warmed herself, saying:

'How good I feel! The fire has not burned like this for a long time!'

The King of Cats

by Ernest Rhys - Once upon a time there were two brothers who lived in a lonely house in a very lonely part of Scotland. An old woman used to do the cooking, and there was no one else, unless we count her cat and their own dogs, within miles of them.

One autumn afternoon the elder of the two, whom we will call Elshender, said he would not go out - so the younger one, Fergus, went alone to follow the path where they had been shooting the day before, far across the mountains.

He meant to return home before the early sunset - however, he did not do so, and Elshender became very uneasy as he watched and waited in vain till long after their usual suppertime. At last Fergus returned, wet and exhausted, nor did he explain why he was so late.

But after supper when the two brothers were seated before the fire, on which the peat crackled cheerfully, the dogs lying at their feet, and the old woman's black cat sitting gravely with half-shut eyes on the hearth between them, Fergus recovered himself and began to tell his adventures.

"You must be wondering," said he, "what made me so late. I have had a very, very strange adventure to-day. I hardly know what to say about it. I went, as I told you I should, along our yesterday's track. A mountain fog came on just as I was about to turn homewards, and I completely lost my way. I wandered about for a long time not knowing where I was, till at last I saw a light, and made for it, hoping to get help.

"As I came near it, it disappeared, and I found myself close to an old oak tree. I climbed into the branches the better to look for the light, and, behold! there it was right beneath me, inside the hollow trunk of the tree. I seemed to be looking down into a church, where a funeral was taking place. I heard singing, and saw a coffin surrounded by torches, all carried by. But I know you won't believe me, Elshender, if I tell you!"

His brother eagerly begged him to go on, and threw a dry peat on the fire to encourage him. The dogs were sleeping quietly, but the cat was sitting up, and seemed to be listening just as carefully and cannily as Elshender himself. Both brothers, indeed, turned their eyes on the cat as Fergus took up his story.

"Yes," he continued, "it is as true as I sit here. The coffin and the torches were both carried by CATS, and upon the coffin were marked a crown and a scepter!"

He got no farther, for the black cat started up, shrieking:

"My stars! old Peter's dead, and I'm the King o' the Cats!" Then rushed up the chimney, and was seen no more.

The Guest

By Anonymous - A young man and his wife were on a trip to visit his mother. Usually they arrived in time for supper, but they had had a late start, and now it was getting dark, so they decided to look for a place to stay overnight and drive on in the morning.

Just off the road, they saw a small house in the woods. "Maybe they rent rooms," the wife said. So they stopped to ask. An elderly man and woman came to the door. They didn't rent rooms, they said, but they would be glad to have them stay overnight as their guests. They had plenty of room, and they would enjoy the company. The old woman made coffee and brought out some cake, and the four of them talked for a while. Then the young couple were taken to their room. They tried to insist on paying for this, but the old man said he would not accept any money.

The young couple got up early the next morning, before their hosts had awakened. They left an envelope with some money in it on a table near the front door, to pay for the room. Then they went on to the next town. They stopped at a restaurant and had breakfast. When they told the owner where they had stayed, he was shocked. "That can't be," he said. "That house burned to the ground, and the man and the woman who lived there died in the fire."

The young couple could not believe it. So they went back to the house. Only now there was no house. All they found was a burnt-out shell. They stood staring at the ruins trying to understand what had happened. Then the woman screamed: In the rubble was a badly burned table, like the one they had seen by the front door and on the table was the envelope they had left that very morning.

The Legend of Moll Dyer

The story of Moll Dyer, a witch who was driven from her home south of Leonardtown more than 300 years ago, is well known and often repeated in St. Mary's County.

But was she ever real? There are no records of her existence. However, there is a road and stream named after her south of Leonardtown and lands there bore her name since the 1890s.

A large rock, said to be the last resting place of Moll Dyer where she left imprints of her knees and hand on the stone, was moved in 1972 to the front of the circuit courthouse in Leonardtown. The area of Moll Dyer Road was purported to be haunted.

Tradition has it that Moll Dyer was an outcast in the small community between Leonardtown and Redgate. Though she lived in a hut, she survived via the generosity of others through the alms house, located where Leonardtown Middle School is now.

The winter of 1697 was extraordinarily harsh. On March 27 the Council of Maryland proceedings in Annapolis commented on the bad weather: "It hath pleased God that this winter hath been the longest that hath been known in the memory of man, for it began about the middle of November, and little sign of any spring yet. It was very uncertain weather, several frosts and snows, one of which was the greatest hath been known."

Witchcraft was often blamed for such calamitous times. In St. Mary's that year, the legend goes, Moll Dyer fit the description of a witch — a strange old hag.

Witches weren't common, but it was still widely believed they did exist then.

In June 1654, the crew of the ship Charity on route to Maryland from England testified about the hanging of passenger Mary Lee for suspicion of practicing witchcraft, according to the Proceedings of the Council of Maryland.

On Oct. 4, 1659, Edward Prescott was acquitted for "one Elizabeth Richardson hanged in his ship" for witchcraft, according to the proceedings of the Provincial Court. Plaintiff John Washington of Virginia couldn't attend court that day and because there was no testimony, Prescott was released. He blamed John Greene, captain of the ship, for the execution.

In 1674, John Cowman of St. Mary's County was arraigned, convicted and condemned for witchcraft, conjuration or enchantment upon the body of Eliza Goodall, according to an 1885 edition of the Baltimore Times. Cowman was pardoned by Charles Calvert.

On Oct. 9, 1685, Rebecca Fowler of Calvert County was hanged for practicing witchcraft. She was the only person executed in Maryland for witchcraft, according to the 1938 book "Crime and Punishment in Early Maryland."

One story about Moll Dyer says there was careful consultation as Dyer's neighbors decided to force her away after their crops were ruined and their livestock died. Another account says the decision was fueled by binge drinking at the alms house. Both stories say countrymen bore down on Dyer's hut with torches on a cold February night in 1697. Her house set ablaze, Dyer sought refuge in the surrounding woods and the men did not pursue her.

"Nothing was heard of her for several days, until a boy hunting for his cattle in the woods espied her kneeling on a stone with one hand resting thereon and the other raised as if in prayer, or to curse her tormentors, wrote Joseph Morgan of Leonardtown in the 1890s.

"Her life had gone out in the dark, cold night, and she still rested in her suppliant position, frozen stiff with the Winter's cold. The story runs that she offered a prayer to be avenged on her persecutors and that a curse be put on them and their lands," he wrote.

The Beacon newspaper of Sept. 12, 1901, reported the experience of a young man returning to Leonardtown on horseback in the dead of night. "At Moll Dyer's run he stopped to water his horse. He says he noticed that another traveler was at the run and thinking he knew who it was, asked it to move. No attention was paid to the request and it was repeated somewhat more harshly. Surprised at the fright manifested by his horse, he turned and noted that the horseman he thought he knew was riding a headless animal, and while gazing at this unusual appearance he distinctly saw the spectral horse part in the middle and the horseman disappear between the two disjointed ends."

Moll Dyer's Run was cited in a deed from 1857. There were five houses around the run, according to a May 1854 survey of the area, on the east side of Clay Hill Road, which is today's Route 5. The road that later became Moll Dyer Road was already there.

By 1895, 60 acres of land near Clay Hill Road was called Moll Dyer's Hill, just north of Redgate.

In 1968, Philip Love, an editor for The Evening Star, began searching for Moll Dyer's rock. He and his wife found what was supposed to be that rock in the woods of Stephen Foxwell's farm, a farm that is today home of Lil' Margaret's Bluegrass Festival.

But Love was not the first to claim finding the infamous rock. "In a clearing up on Clover Lot, Mr. John T. Yates found in a gully, not far from the run, the legendary ‘Moll Dyer's stone.' The knee prints on the stone are still visible," according to the Beacon of April 13, 1911. According to land records, Clover Lot was then part of Foxwell's farm and is today located at 42660 Moll Dyer Road, home of William and Alice Holly. Next door is Elizabeth Holly, who moved to the first house on the left in 1968.

On Oct. 14, 1972, the local National Guard, which was housed in today's Leonardtown library, hauled the 875-pound rock up from the Clover Lot to the old county jail, owned by the St. Mary's County Historical Society, in front of the circuit courthouse where it rests today.

Elizabeth Holly said she was at work the day they moved the rock, which tore up her driveway in the process. She heard the story of Moll Dyer when she and her husband moved in and was aware of the rock's story, but said recently of the witch, "She ain't bothered us."

NOTE: The Moll Dyer mystery will most likely never be solved. I have heard of the apparitions that haunt the rock and courthouse...but is it Moll Dyer? Witchcraft is a Maryland legacy...so much of the history and legends are the result of people who practiced or were accused of practicing the 'craft'. Though I'm a transplanted Marylander, I was raised just across the Mason-Dixon line in Pennsylvania and familiar with the healing legacy through those who kept the tradition intact...Lon

Daily 2 Cents: Child Encounters Tall Grey -- Butterfly-Shaped UFO Over Ohio -- Man Guilty of Attempting to Murder Corpse

Child Encounters Tall Grey

Muncie, Indiana - 9/6/2006: “I’ve done seen more things throughout my life, more than any other child has in a lifetime!” It all started at the age of eleven, I just moved from Angola, Indiana planning to meet new people, and make new friends while finishing up my summer in Muncie, Indiana. It all started out great, on the third day I sought out to find new friends in the neighborhood, and eventually I was given a tour of the massive city on foot. Although I can’t remember him and his brothers name, they had lived a couple houses down from me. They were much older than me, the one was tall and skinny, while his brother was short and stalky. Supposedly their dad worked for the CIA back in the day or something like that, I never really believed them! Tom my mother's boyfriend worked at the popcorn factory making tons of different popcorn flavors, pretzels, with white chocolate, and dark chocolate covered pretzels. Sometimes he would bring some home with him, after I was finally settled in with my mom and her new boyfriend we decided to watch American Dad and eat some caramel popcorn that he had brought back from work. We had a blast at first until a few days have past, it was hot and humid the day it all began to unravel. Tom came home from work, installed the air conditioner in my temporary bedroom, which was also our other living room, while my real bedroom was still a working progress at the time. He then took a shower and proceeded to go to bed with my mother as I sat up half the night watching Family Guy.

After a few hours of watching TV I began to get bored and yet tired, the air conditioner wasn’t working properly and it was really hot. I got up grabbed my blankets and pillows, turned off the lights and laid down on the couch in our living room. It felt like eternity trying to fall asleep. I eventually got so fed up with the heat, once again grabbed my blankets and pillows and headed to my bedroom, opened up my window and laid on the floor. Again it felt like eternity just laying there listening to all silence, as I laid there staring at the clock I began to hear someone or something walking through our driveway made up of rocks. I then figured it was my friends dad coming home from the bar playing a game of pool with his buddies. I then got up and proceeded on my tippy toes to say hello, not even I could hear myself walking across the wooden floor, I stood there by the window and slowly aimed my head out. I heard my neighbors Pitbull beginning to growl and bark, I seen her hairs literally crawl up her spine, as I stood there trying to understand what she was barking at. I knew what I was staring at from behind was not in fact, my friends dad! From behind whatever this thing was, it was tall, gray with long arms, long legs, big head, and walked faster than any other person I have ever seen in all my life. It then turned around, ducked behind my trashcan looking straight at me with them deadly looking eyes.

I was baffled by the fact that it knew I was there looking at him from behind, questioning myself. “What is that, is this really happening, how did it know I was here”. I stood there feeling like it was forever, staring deep into it’s big black glossy eyes. I then pictured seeing myself from where he was at literally seeing myself standing by the window while getting this feeling that it knew I was a child and it wasn’t there to hurt me. It then stood up continually staring at me, finally blinking , its eyes moved from both the left and right side meeting the middle of it’s eyes. As I stood there shocked at what I was seeing, it then turned around and walked away fast again, I remembered Tom had a camera in his office. I ran to his office to grab his camera trying to capture proof, I finally got to the room trying to get the camera to work and it was dead, and as for it, it disappeared into thin air…. Literally!

The night wasn’t done just yet, that moment before it all happened it was silent, all of a sudden every car alarm in the neighborhood went off as if an earthquake went off. There was no trembling throughout my house at the time until I seen a black helicopter passing over my house with a bright white search light, afterwards when all the cars finally went silent, I began to hear this strange whistling sound from thin air. I will never forget the sky's blood red color afterwards, the creature I seen, the dog barking, and the way it looked at me. “Of course I was scared, I was a child at the time, and didn’t know what the hell I seen”! Till this day it has always remained a mystery, and I plan to know exactly what the hell it was.

As the night ended I ran to my mother's room frantic about what I have seen, waking them up telling them everything, they did not believe me, leaving me with an answer “William you watch too many movies, go back to sleep”! I then stayed awake throughout the remainder of the night with my head under the covers in the living room. I finally fell asleep dreaming about 6 of them standing over me with a bright light doing unimaginable things to me, after that I woke up tired and nauseated, also shocked about everything I just witnessed, still convinced what I have seen was real. When I went to school, I told the kids about what happened on the first day, one kid called me crazy stating “Yeah right”! Months have past, even years, and I will never forget every last detail! I haven’t told many people about it since then, and I still see him in my dreams at times. No one can convince me that it was a man in a suit, me hallucinating or the simple fact that I watch too much movies. I know what I seen, I will never forget! I still ask myself to this day, was I in fact abducted. I will never know because of the fact, people usually have no recognition of there abduction.

Butterfly-Shaped UFO Over Ohio

Click for video - Strange butterfly-shaped UFO filmed over Ohio

Footage and images have emerged of a 'metal butterfly' that was spotted by a father and son in the US.

One of the most unique sightings to have been reported in a while, the bizarre looking object appeared in the sky as the two men - Tom and Christopher - were leaving a local restaurant.

Grabbing their phones they managed to record several seconds of footage and a series of photographs showing the butterfly-like craft moving overhead and off in to the distance.

Tyler Glockner, who has been hosting the video on his paranormal-themed YouTube channel 'SecureTeam', is adamant that the object is not something that could have been built by humans.

"The reason I am calling this an alien craft rather than just a UFO…is in the stunning detail, where we can see the true structural characteristics of this ship," he said.

"And guys you take a look and tell me with a straight face this has anything to do with humans."

Others however are not quite so convinced. UFO researcher and author Nigel Watson believes that the object in the video could have easily been created using computer graphics software.

"It looks like it was produced using a model and CGI," he said. "It is a very distinctive looking object, it reminds me of the Millennium Falcon spacecraft in the Star Wars films with a bite taken out of it."

Man Guilty of Attempting to Murder Corpse

A man has been found guilty of attempting to murder a corpse.

The story, which was accepted by the court in Melbourne, Australia, goes as follows.

Daniel Darrington claimed he was having an argument with Rocky Matskassy, which escalated into a struggle.

A gun accidentally went off, with the bullet hitting Matskassy.

Thinking that the first, accidental shot had killed Matskassy, Darrington then shot him again.

Darrington’s defence barrister John Desmond argued in court that as it can not be proven beyond reasonable doubt that Matskassy was not already dead whent he second shot was fired, Darrington cannot be found guilty of his murder. ‘The issue is not did Darrington believe the man was alive. The issue is was he factually dead,’ Desmond said.

He went on to give some complicated legal-talk, but it was accepted by the jury.

‘If someone’s already dead and you then try to kill him, how can that be attempted murder?’ he asked.

‘But the law in this state is because you have the criminal intent to kill and if you, the accused, thought the person was alive, even if he was in fact dead, the law says that would be attempted murder.

‘So just to quickly repeat – if Matskassy dies as a consequence of the first shot, the subsequent deliberate shots into Matskassy are not murder.’

Darrington reportedly told police he thought Matskanny was still alive after the first shot, and that he fired the second shot ‘because the deceased was suffering’, according to the prosecutor.

The jury found Darrington not guilty of murder or manslaughter, however they did find him guilty of attempted murder (even though the man he was attempting to murder was already thought to have been dead).

He will be sentenced at a later date.

Plastic sheeting was found covering Darrington’s car interior, however he denied planning to dispose of a body, claiming that he wanted to take Matskassy to hospital but didn’t want to get his car covered in blood. - Man found guilty of attempted murder...of a corpse
