Live... Die... and Live Again - Part 12

By Stephen Ellis - As shown in previous parts, if, in fact, the mind or consciousness of dead people continues to exist after their body dies, the existence of that consciousness, by necessity, must be located in a different dimension than the one we know as “life”. This is not just an opinion, it is a virtually undeniable fact.

As living creatures, everything we do, hear, see, etc. is the result of our having five senses: Sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. While there will always be a few exceptions (the very recent String Theory and the Super String Theory), science, throughout the world, has mandated that if our senses can’t detect it…it doesn’t exist. Common sense tells us that science must be wrong: we all know things our senses can’t detect, even when using high technology such as radiation detectors, atom-smashers, space telescopes, centrifuges, etc. Most obvious among these things our senses seem unable to detect is the “mind” or “consciousness” we deal with every day.

As detailed in earlier parts, despite exhaustive research by Doctors, Physicists and the myriad of other scientific professions, none of the five senses we all possess has ever located the mind to be in any part of the human brain or body.

There have been hundreds (if not thousands) of stories written about a “sixth” sense. If you set aside the multitude of authors’ imagination and creativity in writing about a sixth sense, it all boils down to one thing: The so-called sixth-sense enables someone to perceive the consciousness in another dimension: The consciousness of the dead; the consciousness of other people’s thoughts.

I know of very few people throughout history who possessed a genuine sixth-sense, but every-so-often our attention is called to someone with this rare ability. Peter Hurkos was one such person. Now deceased, Hurkos (allegedly the world’s most ‘tested’ psychic) had been a Dutch underground fighter in WWII against the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. I spoke with Hurkos extensively when he was alive. He underwent a full year of testing at Duke University’s ESP laboratory and two-and-a-half years of testing by Andrija Puharich, MD, a noted physician and researcher of ESP. Both Duke and Puharich agreed that Hurkos had extremely unusual psychic powers (Dr. Puharich found that Hurkos had a remarkable 90% accuracy when tested).

Hurkos told me that, following an accident in WWII, where he slipped from a rooftop and landed on his head, he began to read people’s thoughts. Not on a “regular” basis, but, without warning, someone’s thoughts would enter his head. Not just the thoughts of people nearby, but sometimes the thoughts of recently deceased people. In spite of the help given to him by Duke University and Dr. Puharich, Hurkos was not able to control when psychic thoughts came to him.

Needing to earn a living following WWII, Hurkos tried to capitalize on his unique talent and started giving shows representing himself as a “psychic”. Most of his shows were trickery and cold readings but, sometimes, he would suddenly pick up someone’s thoughts. Two of his most famous incidents were (1) when putting on a “psychic show” in Rotterdam he picked up the thoughts of one member of his audience and exposed him to be an escaped Nazi Concentration Camp officer now pretending to be a Dutch businessman. (2) When asked by the Dutch police to help find a missing girl (about seven years old), Hurkos walked around Amsterdam but stopped on one of the hundreds of bridges that spanned canals. Hurkos pointed down and said :She’s down there”. The next day, her body floated to the top of the canal next to the bridge. She had fallen in and her body became entangled in some weeds. Hurkos was also credited by police and other government agencies with identifying the famous Boston strangler and a dozen other cases where Hurkos claimed to have received messages from people who had been murdered identifying their killers.

The point is that Hurkos was able to receive messages from dead people. Not on a consistent basis…but at times that even surprised him. There was a consistency of sorts: The thoughts he received from dead people were only from people who had died recently and, usually, unexpectedly. It didn’t work all the time, but it worked often enough that police around the world used Hurkos to help identify murderers and give police a “prime suspect”. Several books were written about him.

If you stop and let yourself digest these facts, it means that clearly there is a form of consciousness in dead people…apparently more so in people who died recently and unexpectedly…their bodies were dead but their consciousness was still alive. Additionally. It follows that since Hurkos, sometimes, also picked-up on people’s thoughts while they were alive that there must be some factors in common with our “live” consciousness and the consciousness of the deceased.

This becomes almost irrefutable evidence that there is consciousness after death.
