Daily 2 Cents: Demand For Exorcists Rising -- Crop Circle Was Publicity Stunt -- Woman Kills Self Over Demons

Rise of the Exorcists in Catholic Church

A rise in demand for exorcists has prompted the Catholic Church to ramp up its training efforts.

The Church has attributed the increase in exorcism cases to the rise in the use of Ouija boards, black magic and other occult practices and hopes that by training more priests it will not only help to curb this trend but also to reduce the number of individuals performing unauthorized exorcisms.

"Diabolical possessions are on the increase as a result of people subscribing to occultism," said Fr Francesco Bamonte of the International Association for Exorcists. "The few exorcists that we have in the dioceses are often not able to handle the enormous number of requests for help."

Despite the rise in claims however, only a select few are deemed to be genuine cases of possession. "In the cases where a mental illness is apparent, we try to send them to a doctor," said Fr Vincenzio Taraborelli who emphasized that it was "very rare" for an actual exorcism to be needed. Gary has asked for details of other similar sightings...I can forward your information. If you search his name in the blog archives, several other photo examples will come up. Lon

Woman kills self over demons

A woman from Chipinge, Zimbabwe opted to end her life after she was told that she was possessed by demons that were causing problems in her life. The incident happened last week in Chivhunze Village under Chief Mutema. Chipo Zano (21) committed suicide after she had been informed by an
unknown prophet that she was possessed by demons which were bringing bad luck in her life.

It is alleged that Chipo had been advised by the prophet to ask her father about the demons in order to get assistance.

She allegedly summoned her father, Zano Mupedzanyika (63), who stays in the same village.

Manicaland deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda said when Chipo approached her father she told him that she had been directed to him by the prophet.

“Chipo told Mupedzanyika that she was being haunted by evil spirits and that she wanted her father to help her since she had been referred to him by the prophet.

“She held her father accountable for her misfortunes and asked him to bare it all,” said Asst Insp Chananda.

He said Mupedzanyika told her that he knew nothing about the demons and that the prophet had referred her to the wrong person.

He also asked her daughter to summon the whole family if she thought he was responsible for the demons that were bringing so much pain in her life.

Chipo kept on nagging her father but she later gave up and disappeared into the bush.

Mupedzanyika thought her daughter had gone back home and after about two hours he was approached by her husband Tapera Simango (29) asking for his wife.

They searched for her and found her sleeping at a nearby river. She told them that she had taken some poison.

They rushed her to Chipinge District Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. - ManicaPost

California Crop Circle Was Publicity Stunt

A 95-metre "crop circle" in a California barley field that mystified locals this week was explained on Sunday: it was a publicity stunt by Nvidia Corp, a maker of chips for PCs and smartphones.

The crop circle near Chualar, California, contained a stylised image of a computer chip and the number "192" in Braille. On Sunday, the company announced the Tegra K1, a new chip for tablets and smartphones that contains 192 computing "cores," or mini-computers, for graphics applications.

Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said at a press conference in Las Vegas, ahead of the International Consumer Electronics Show, that he had given his marketing department the mission to promote the chip on a shoe-string budget. The crop circle received wide attention. Rumors of Santa Clara, California-based Nvidia's involvement appeared on Sunday before the press conference.

The circle was plowed under a few days after its discovery.

Tablets are becoming a popular platform for gaming, undermining Nvidia's core business of creating powerful chips that enhance the look of PC games. It's had some success with its chips for mobile gadgets like smartphones and tablets, but has been overshadowed by Qualcomm Inc.

In the new Tegra K1, the graphics component based on its "Kepler" design, used in high-end PCs. The chip would makes for a tablet more powerful than an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 game console, while consuming one-twentieth the power.

"We've bridged the gap - we've brought mobile computing to the same level as desktop computing," Mr Huang said.

The 192 cores in the new chip compare to Nvidia's previous flagship, the Tegra 4, with 72 graphics cores.

Huang demonstrated near photo-realistic simulations of environments and human faces, run on the new chip. He said Epic Games will adapt the next version of its Unreal Engine, the basis for many popular games, so that it will work on the chip. He didn't announce when the chip would be available or any gadget makers that were adopting it. - Mobile News
