Daily 2 Cents: Man Rises From Grave -- Man Opens 'Pandora's Box', Dies -- Flying Fish-Like Alien?

Man Buried Alive In Brazil Rises From Grave

It's not every day you see someone climbing out of a grave. But for one woman in Brazil, who was visiting her family tomb, that's exactly what she was in for.

According to local reports, the woman, who has not been identified, was at a cemetery in Sao Paulo's Ferraz de Vasconcelos when she heard some odd noises and saw some dirt moving near a grave. That's when she spotted a man, buried alive, trying to pull himself from the ground.

"I was terrified to see a man who I thought was dead, trying to get out of the grave," the woman recalled later, according to local reports.

The woman notified authorities, and emergency services arrived to dig out the rest of the man's body; he had already managed to free his head and arms from the ground. In a video broadcast on local station Record TV, the rescue team is seen pulling the partially buried man from the grave.

It's not immediately clear how the man, who reportedly worked as a city hall employee, came to be buried alive, but it is believed he got into a fight in another part of the city and was badly beaten up in the altercation, the Daily Mail reported.

After he was rescued from the grave, he was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Though city officials confirmed the case, they did not disclose the condition of the man, Noticias R7 reports. - THP

Man Opens 'Pandora's Box', Dies

Mystery surrounds the death of a 37-year-old man who collapsed after opening ‘Pandora’s box’.

Jason Airey was found slumped unconscious by his parents in the bedroom of their Carlisle home in May this year. A box bearing the words ‘Pandora’s box’ was beside him.

An inquest into his death heard how no drugs were found in his system and the box – which bore the inscription in red letters – contained unused synthetic cannabis.

Coroner Robert Chapman said a post mortem showed Jason’s heart had stopped beating, causing his organs to fail – but they would probably never know why. He never regained consciousness and died in the Cumberland Infirmary two days later.

His father, Dennis Airey, told the inquest that Jason, who had worked at Cavaghan and Gray and Metal Box, had been in a happy mood when he returned to the family home in Crossways, Harraby, on May 2.

“He was just his normal self,” he said. “I think he had enjoyed himself in town. He had been shopping and said he was going upstairs to get changed.”

Mr Airey said his wife Anne got concerned when Jason had been upstairs for some time.

“She went upstairs and came back down saying something was wrong. She couldn’t wake him.”

Mr Airey went upstairs and found his son slumped on his knees, face down. “I got hold of him and his shirt was clammy. His face was blue. I could feel a faint pulse on his neck,” he said.

Paramedics and an ambulance was called and Mr Airey started CPR, he said. The paramedics worked on Jason, a former Inglewood and Harraby secondary school pupil, for an hour before he was taken to hospital.

His father said he found “a little packet” inside ‘Pandora’s box’ and thought it was cannabis but “it didn’t smell”. Mr Chapman said tests later revealed it was synthetic cannabis.

“I thought [the box] had just been opened,” Mr Airey said.

“It was a packet but had not been used. It was on the bed right beside him.

“He hadn’t taken any drugs after having a bad experience with ecstasy 13 years ago.”

Mr Chapman said toxicology tests had found no trace of drugs in Jason’s system and ruled that he died of natural causes.

“His heart stopping caused the death of his brain which caused multiple organ failure,” he said. “We don’t really know what caused his heart to stop.

“There is a possibility that he had a fatal cardiac arrythymia – a change in his heartbeat.”

Pittsburgh Man Thinks He's a Dog

Gary Matthews spends much of his time dressed up in a dog costume and going by the name 'boomer'.

The retired technology worker is such a fan of dogs that he goes to great lengths to look and behave like one. Wearing a collar along with his oversized dog costume made from strips of shredded paper, Mathews can often be found wandering around Pittsburgh barking at cars and digging holes.

"When I go out, I get the feeling and I wave to people as a dog," he said. "I go to local festivals because kids like the costume. That's my way of reaching out to people and spreading the word that I can be myself in life. They see that you can have fun in adulthood. But I am kind of a loner dog."

Despite enjoying regular human food most of the time, Mathews sometimes indulges with a meal of dog food scoffed from an actual dog bowl. "I don't eat dog food every day," he said. "It's a special thing for me to do once in awhile to get closer to feeling like a canine. I eat the canned kind. It's not bad -- it tastes OK. I eat regular human food, too, like pizza."

Having been featured on the National Geographic special "Extreme Anthromorphism: Boomer the Dog", Mathews has become something of a celebrity in his niche. The name "Boomer" originated with a TV shows called "Here's Boomer" that ran from 1979 to 1982 and his obsession with all things dog-like began when he saw Disney's "101 Dalmatians" and "The Shaggy Dog" when he was a child.
