Daily 2 Cents: Is the DB Cooper Mystery Solved? -- Giant Cannibal Crocodile -- 'I Know That Man'

Is the DB Cooper Mystery Solved?

The man who successfully hijacked an airliner in 1971 might have been a missing grocery store manager.

The incident began when a mysterious man, who at the time went by the name Dan Cooper, boarded Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305 to travel from Portland to Seattle.

During the trip Cooper called over one of the flight attendants and asked them to write out a note declaring that he had a bomb in his briefcase and that the plane was being hijacked.

When the aircraft stopped at Tacoma International Airport he allowed the passengers to leave in exchange for four parachutes and the sum of $200,000 in cash.

After the plane had taken off again, Cooper strapped the bag of money to himself, put on one of the parachutes and jumped out somewhere between Seattle and Reno. No trace of him was ever found.

Fast forward to the present day however and now a woman by the name of Lisa Lepsy has come forward to claim that DB Cooper may have actually been her father, a grocery store manager who had gone missing at around the same time that the hijacking had taken place.

She made the connection after recognizing him in a news report about the incident.

"When the composite sketch of DB Cooper came on the TV screen, everyone looked at each other and said, 'That's dad!'" she said. "We were stunned because the resemblance was unbelievable, and my brothers and I were all sure that was our dad."

Even if she is right however much still remains unexplained about the case - especially what happened to Cooper after he had parachuted from the plane.

The discovery in 1980 of wads of rotting $20 bills matching the serial numbers of the notes given to him during the hijacking had long suggested that he may have perished after jumping out. Read more at Has the mystery of DB Cooper been solved?

Giant Cannibal Crocodile

The incredible images show the huge, terrifying beast brutally grabbing a smaller croc by its neck and violently lashing it around – before blood-thirstily ripping its head off.

The jaw-dropping moment was "snapped" by Rob Bowie – an amateur photographer from Cape Town, in South Africa's Letaba river.

'I Know That Man'

1987 – Sturgis, Michigan

Jim from Louisiana called in to tell a strange story from his childhood.

“Okay, my little brother and my mother one day – I grew up in Sturgis, Michigan and we grew up on 2 acres of property with multiple cornfields around us. And he was six years old and my other brothers and I, I got four brothers, we were all in school. And my mom was out hanging laundry and she had seen like a dark shadow or something. We had a bunch of Walnut trees in our yard so she just thought it was maybe clouds or something casting a shadow. And something told her, something wasn't right, I don't know, I can't remember exactly how she described it. She looked to her left and my little brother William always, always stood by her side and helped with the laundry but he was gone and she couldn't find him. Well, she ran around like some brush that was in our yard and there he was staring up at the sky. She went over there and told him not to run away anymore. So she sent him inside and nothing came of anything. So later in the day, we get home and she asked us to watch my little brother as she went to the store and made some other errands. She came back home and when she came back home, it was one of our favourite things was to go through the bags and see what mom got, you know. So I was digging through the bags and I took this book out and it happened to be your book (Whitley Streiber's “Communion” - the one with the cover adorned with a black eyed alien grey), this was around spring of '87. It might have been the summer, and I took the book and I put it on the counter and I was like, Oh, what is that? I was like, Oh, I've seen those on television, you know, that's an alien, you know, whatever. And I made a comment about it to my mom and then we didn't think anything of it. We put the groceries away and stuff like that. And then, all of a sudden, we were all kind of walking through and my little brother was staring at me and he was laughing and he said, 'I know that man!' and this is a true story, I'm 43 years old. I don't tell lies and I've never seen any UFOs in my life. Come to find out, when my little brother took off from my mom's side that day, there was a craft in the air and he said that he saw that man in that craft.

Dead landlord haunting his tenants from the grave

He’s dead and buried, but landlord Menachem Stark — whose list of enemies was so long that cops were scratching their heads to find a prime suspect in his 2014 murder — is still making life hell for tenants.

Occupants of all 20 units in a pricey Williamsburg apartment building have been left homeless for the holidays because Stark had hired contractors who did a shoddy job, causing the Buildings Department to issue an immediate vacate order Tuesday, records show.

A notice left on the front door of 120 S. Fourth St. warned residents that the five-story building “has questionable structural integrity [because of] the installation of substandard structural steel columns, trusses, beams, welds.”

One of around 50 displaced renters, Cristal Ledesma, 25, lamented the awful timing on Thursday.

“It sucks. Why would they do this right before the holiday?” she said. “I’m really starting to get stressed.”

Units range from studios to three-bedrooms and go for $4,200 to $5,300 a month, listings show.

“We all have stuff trapped in there, textbooks and computers and everything else,” said another tenant, Melissa Yamamoto.

“I’m staying with my boyfriend. One of my roommates wasn’t so lucky. He left before we knew, so he’s going to come back and has no work clothes.”

There was no word on when the tenants could return.

Stark, whose suffocated and burned body was found in a dumpster in Long Island in January 2014, had many foes, a law enforcement source said.

“Any number of people wanted to kill this guy,” the source said. Continued reading at Dead landlord haunting his tenants from the grave
