UFO Lands On Nova Scotia Beach

Two years before the Shag Harbour UFO incident and 10 days before the infamous Kecksburg UFO crash in Keckburg, PA at least two other strange 'landed' objects were observed in Nova Scotia, Canada. On November 30, 1965, Seaman Ian Kinsey, of Her Majesty's Coastal Service, was on his 2-4 a.m. watch at the Cornwallis station. When he looked out towards the shoreline, he saw a sharply oval, yellow object resting on the beach. The UFO was "lit up," but not glaring. Five minutes later a sliding door on the object's side opened and a smaller, cigarette-shaped UFO entered the larger object through the door. A similar sighting took place a few hours before in Springhill, about 125 miles from Cornwallis.

Seaman Sees Object on Beach

Two Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, Canada, sightings in late November, 1965, created considerable interest.

Early on the morning of November 30, Seaman Ian Kinsey, of Her Majesty's Coastal Service, was on his two to four a.m. watch at the Cornwallis station. He was making his rounds of one of the barracks and was to "pass by a certain window in this barracks two times between these duty hours." Through the window he could see a small beach approximately 500 paces long and about 50 paces wide at low tide. (This section of Canada boasts the world's largest tides).

It was 3:30 when Kinsey passed by the window the second time. He looked out, expecting to see the usual things: "pitch blackness, the lights of the shoreline, the communications station, and radio antennae." He also saw something else: a sharply oval, yellow object resting on the beach. The UFO was "lit up," but not glaring.

Five minutes later a sliding door on the object's side opened, emitting a white light. Then a smaller, cigarette-shaped UFO entered the larger object through the door. The larger object rose, "slowly cruised over the mountain and [was] gone for good."

The witness said that, as the UFO took off, it apparently pushed "rocks, logs and other material" away from the center of the beach.

In a series of letters to Assistant Director Gordon Lore, Kinsey said that no one believed his story. The seaman stated that he was sent to doctors to test his sanity, "but no tests were taken."

"There's a good chance that they will give me a medical discharge. . . .," Kinsey told NICAP. "They say I am emotionally disturbed. Since I took no tests, I can't see how they came to a conclusion like this. . . . They put me in the hospital under treatment. . . . They say if I stick to my story, I will be thrown out of the navy."

Intimidation Claim Denied

Concerned about the situation, NICAP wrote to Kinsey's commanding officer, Captain J. M. Paul.

"I wish to assure you that Ordinary Seaman Kinsey is not being released because he refused to deny the sighting of an unidentified flying object," Captain Paul responded. "This man is in fact being released, but for reasons which are in no way connected with this incident."

Just a few hours before, late on the evening of the 29th, young Kevin Davis and Gary Jardine saw a UFO supporting a blinking red dome near Springhill, according to The Springhill Record. The object had portholes and emitted an exhaust and a humming sound.

Then, as the youngsters watched, a long bar-like object was emitted from the largest porthole. It reentered and emerged a second time. Then "something like smoke" emerged from the large UFO "and sparks flew upward."

The snow in the area was blown around and some of the bushes were flattened.

Springhill is about 125 miles northeast of Cornwallis. - NICAP (National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomenon), Strange Effects From UFOs, A NICAP Special Report by Donald Keyhoe and Gordon Lore

Just the Facts?: Indonesia 'Black Magic' -- 'Protect Earth From ET' Petition -- Gift-Wrapped Skulls Mystery

Push to make 'black magic' a crime in Indonesia

Travellers to Indonesia beware: smuggling drugs will still earn you jail time but, if an official draft of the country's new criminal code becomes law, witches and people practising "black magic", even adulterers and those living together outside wedlock, may also be locked away.

The new draft law is meant to modernise Indonesia's 1918 Criminal Code, which was last updated in 1958, but some of its proposals constitute a big step back to the Middle Ages.

In a country where many people earnestly believe that they could be killed, injured or robbed by a sorcerer using black magic, that crime will, for the first time, become part of the criminal law.

News portal reported late on Thursday that people guilty of using black magic to cause "someone's illness, death, mental or physical suffering", face up to five years in jail or 300 million rupiah ($A31,000) in fines.

Even claiming to have the power to cast dark spells would become a criminal offence, and if the magic was performed for financial gain, the penalty would increase by one-third. "White" magic would remain legal.

Commentators quoted in the Jakarta Globe newspaper agreed it may be difficult to gather hard evidence for these offences.

The new criminal code, which was drafted by the country's Ministry of Justice and Human Rights and circulated this week to parliamentarians, is also informed by the growing sense of religious puritanism in Indonesia, and so takes a much stronger line on moral "offences". Indonesian law has long contained criminal sanctions against adultery, but in the new 500-page draft, the penalties are beefed up considerably – now those caught straying outside the marital bed may find themselves spending up to five years on a prison pallet.

Ministry spokesman Goncang Raharjo said the existing maximum penalty for adultery of nine months had failed to stop the practice, so "we increased the sanctions to prevent people from easily committing adultery".

Living together outside wedlock would also be criminalised for the first time, earning cohabiters up to one year in jail, and putting it on a par with prostitution.

All the provisions in the new law, including those related to the dark arts, were included for the good of the people, the ministry insisted. Khatibul Umam Wiranu, an MP from president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's Democrat Party, agreed with the new proposals when contacted by the Jakarta Globe, but said of witchcraft that charges should be "based on fact finding, not [just] on someone's statement".

As for adultery, it was "the beginning of many social problems", so the sentence "should deter offenders, [and] nine months is not long enough". Five years, however, was "too long", he said.

The law contains 766 articles across the gamut of criminal and immoral activity. But before becoming law, it must pass through the country's House of Representatives, where it could potentially pick up significant amendments. - SMH

USAF Sergeant Charles L. Moody's Abduction

Alamogordo, New Mexico would be the location of a UFO encounter involving Air Force Sergeant Charles L. Moody on August 13, 1975. Moody was in the desert observing a meteor shower at about 1:15 A.M. when he saw a glowing, metallic, disk-shaped object falling toward the ground about 300 feet away.

The UFO was about fifty feet long and eighteen to twenty feet wide. As it descended to an altitude of fifteen to twenty feet, it wobbled on its own axis.

Then it began moving slowly and steadily toward Moody. He jumped into his car but was unable to start it. The UFO came to a stop about seventy feet away. Moody could hear a high-pitched humming sound. He noticed a rectangular window in the craft through which he could see shadows resembling human forms. The noise stopped and he felt a numbness crawling over his body.

The next thing he would remember was seeing the object rising up into the sky and disappearing into the distance.

Moody turned the ignition key and his car started immediately. Terrified, he drove off quickly. When he arrived home, he noticed, to his surprise, that the time was 3:00 A. M. He felt that he had somehow lost about one and a half hours. The following day Moody experienced a pain in his lower back.

Within a few days, a rash broke out over his lower body. Upon the recommendation of a physician, he began to practice self-hypnosis in an effort to recall what had occurred during the lost time period.

Over the next few weeks, he was able to piece together an almost complete picture of the events. According to Moody’s subsequent recollection, after being overcome by numbness on August 13, 1975, he had observed two beings approaching his car.

About six feet tall, the creatures wore skintight black clothing. After a brief scuffle with them, he was rendered unconscious. He awoke on a slab inside the craft. His limbs felt leaden and immovable. Next to him stood the alien leader.

The latter was distinguishable from Moody’s two captors by his short stature of about five feet, and the silvery white color of his suit. However, like the others he had a large hairless head, a protruding brow, roundish eyes, small ears and nose, and very thin lips. His skin was whitish-gray.

The leader asked Moody telepathically if he was prepared to behave peacefully. When Moody agreed to do so, the leader applied a rodlike device to his back which relieved the paralysis.

Moody was taken to another part of the ship where he was shown the drive unit, a device consisting of a large rod surrounded by three glass-canopied holes. Each hole contained a central crystalline object with one rod on each side of it. One rod had a spherical head, while the other was topped by a T-bar.

As he moved about the craft, Moody noticed a sweet, stifling odor. He was told that the alien mother ship was situated miles away above Earth. He was promised a future meeting with the occupants but warned that closer contact with Earth men would not be attempted for another twenty years.

The aliens told Moody that he would have no recollection of the incident until about two weeks later. The leader placed his hands on the sides of Moody’s head, rendering him unconscious once more.

An analysis of Moody’s claims by Charles McQuiston, co-inventor of the Psychological Stress Evaluator, indicated that he was telling the truth. Investigator Jim Lorenzen, however, questions a couple of contradictions in Moody’s accounts of the incident. In an early telling, Moody related that the alien mother ship was located 400 miles above Earth.

Later, however, he said it was 6,000 miles away. Another point which Lorenzen notes is that Moody at one time referred to his two captors as frail creatures, yet later described them as being six feet tall. - World UFO Photos and News

Protect Planet Earth from Extraterrestrial Takeover

It is necessary for people everywhere to understand that covert extraterrestrial takeover has been actively going on for some time. There have been visitations throughout human history, but nothing of this magnitude.

The visitation in our world now is self-serving and very extensive, so much so that people in all parts of the world are witnessing it and are experiencing its effects directly.

The visitors are here to gain humanity’s allegiance. They do not want to destroy human establishments or the human presence. Instead, they wish to use these for their own benefit. Their intention is employment, not destruction.

Sao Paulo police puzzled over 7 gift-wrapped skulls

Police in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo are baffled by a macabre puzzle: someone has been leaving gift-wrapped human skulls around town.

Investigator Paul Henry Bozon Verduraz described the case to the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper in a story published Thursday.

The first skull in cherry-red wrapping was found on February 20 in a planter near a residential building downtown. Since then, seven others have been found near Mormon temples or consulates, including those for Russia, the Czech Republic and South Africa. The skulls are old, with traces of dirt.

Verduraz says security cameras captured images of a woman in an ankle-length skirt leaving the skulls, which seem old, with traces of dirt. He thinks this may be part of some sort of ritual. - Bay News 9

Before: Unknown Humanoid in Michigan / Now: Indian Healer Spirit in Texas

Back in December 2012, the above image of 'something' was released. I posted it as the following - Bigfoot...or Another Unknown Humanoid? - then later at Update: Unknown Hominid Trail Cam Image.

I received this explanation of the entity:

Hey Lon. I was browsing your site and came across and article and picture of a bigfoot or humanoid figure taken from a trail cam. It just so happens that I run a paranormal investigation group out of mid-Michigan called The Paranormal Research and Investigative Society of Michigan (P.R.I.S.O.M). Recently, we had a member have someone tell him about his friend who had these eerie photos off of a trail cam and wanted to see what they were. Upon learning this member was active in the paranormal community, he got a picture (the exact same one) and gave it to him. According to his story, this photo was taken in Alpena, Michigan which is in the upper part of the mitten. The owner of this pic apparently has a couple more which we are trying to get. I don’t know if this photo came from this area or if this is a hoax but I thought you might like a little more info on it. Thanks for your time...Tom Vlassis

Recently...a video has popped up describing this entity as a Indian Healer Spirit Captured On Hunting Camera.

The video included the following description:

Indian healer spirit captured on a deer hunting camera in a small town north of Corpus Christi, TX. Pretty amazing catch as my friend forwarded these pictures to me as he know I was involved in the paranormal.

NOTE: So...look at the video and the screen captures. What do think this may be? I'm starting to sense that the first presentation didn't satisfy the they came up with another scenario. I'm leaning towards 'hoax' at this point.

Just the Facts?: Russia's Jupiter Moon Mission -- True Stories of Premature Burial -- Spielberg Supports UFO Disclosure

Russians sending lander mission to Jupiter moon

Russia’s Jupiter research project, which includes a Ganymede lander mission, will receive its first funding next year, an aide to the Federal Space Agency Roscosmos chief said on Tuesday.

“The project has been included in the Federal Space Program until 2015; next year, first funding for the project will be supplied, though so far it is not very large,” said Roscomos’ Viktor Voron.

Between 10 million and 30 million rubles (about $300,000 to $1 million) will be provided during the first year for R&D, and construction of the first mockups could start by 2017, Maxim Martynov, deputy general designer at the Lavochkin Science and Production Association, told RIA Novosti.

The project envisions sending one orbiter and one lander to Jupiter’s largest moon, Ganymede, by 2023, in order to study the planet for about three years.
It is not yet clear whether the Ganymede Lander will be a partner mission for the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Jupiter Icy Moon Explorer (JUICE).

JUICE is the first large-class mission that is part of ESA’s Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 program. It will be launched in 2022 from Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, on an Ariane 5, arriving on Jupiter in 2030 to spend at least three years making detailed observations. The spacecraft will finally enter orbit around Ganymede in 2032, where it will study the icy surface and the internal structure of the moon, including its subsurface ocean, ESA said. - RIAN

Tens of thousands of 'frenzied' sharks gather off coast of Sunshine State

Tens of thousands of sharks have been spotted along South Florida's coast, closing down beaches across the area and forcing swimmers out of the water.

The sharks are heading north after migrating to the south for the winter in such droves that experts believe swimmers could be within 60 feet of a shark while in the water in the Palm Beach area.

Several beaches have been closed to swimmers as red flags dot the sand.

New book reveals spine-chilling true stories of premature burial

-Horrifying fate not unusual in Victorian times
-Methods of determining death were far from reliable
-Even modern doctors have been known to make mistakes

Premature Burial: How It May Be Prevented

Mary Best was 17 years old when she contracted cholera in India. All alone since her adoptive mother left the country some months earlier, Mary suffered hours of agonising stomach cramps and sickness, her pulse becoming weaker and weaker until, at last, the doctor pronounced her dead.

She was buried in the vault of her adoptive family a few hours later, in the French cemetery in Calcutta.

The year was 1871, and cholera victims were generally buried very soon after death to prevent the germs spreading. In India’s tropical heat, a rapid burial was all the more necessary. Nobody questioned Mary’s hasty interment.

But ten years later, when the vault was opened to admit the body of Mary’s newly deceased uncle by adoption, the undertaker and his assistant were greeted by a horrifying sight.

The lid of Mary’s coffin, which had been nailed down, was on the floor. The girl’s skeleton was half in, half out of the coffin, and the right side of her skull bore a large, ugly fracture. The fingers of her right hand were bent as if clutching at something, perhaps her throat, and her clothes were torn.

Mary, it seemed, had not been dead when she was nailed into a coffin, but merely unconscious.

Cholera victims frequently fell into a coma, and it was in this state that Mary had been buried. Some hours or days later she awoke with no idea where she was.

The utter terror she endured, her futile screams for help, can barely be imagined. Then, realising she was not being heard, she tried desperately to push the coffin lid off. Straining every muscle, she eventually burst it open.

Perhaps the effort was so great that she fell forward, through exhaustion or fainting, and struck her head on the stone shelf, dying instantly.

More likely, however, finding herself in the pitch darkness of the vault, Mary went mad with terror, tore at her clothes, tried to throttle herself, then banged her head and died.

It transpired that the doctor who had certified her death had much to gain by her demise, having twice tried to kill Mary’s adoptive mother — perhaps in an attempt to get his hands on her money — which was why she had fled India. Mary might even have witnessed his actions.

Horrifying as her fate was, in Victorian times — and before — it was not as unusual as one might imagine. Until the medical advances of the 20th century, methods of determining death were far from reliable and could involve applying hot bread to the soles of the feet to check for reactions.

Some people were so terrified of the thought of waking up in a coffin that they demanded in their wills that steps be taken after their ‘death’ —such as slitting their throat or driving a stake through their heart — to prevent this horrific fate.

Perhaps the most disturbing cases were those where the victims came tantalisingly close to being saved, only for the fear or incompetence of the living to seal their fate.

In 1887, in France, a young man was being carried to his grave when the undertakers heard knocking from under the coffin lid.

Afraid of creating a panic among the mourners, they proceeded with the burial. But as the earth was being thrown on the coffin, everyone heard the knocking.

Rather than remove the lid, they waited for the mayor to come. By the time he arrived and the coffin was opened, the man inside had died of asphyxiation.

There were other cases of people waiting for the authorities before opening the coffin, only to find that its occupant had died minutes earlier.

It was clear from the victims’ contorted bodies, the nails torn from fingers and toes, and the expression of utter horror on their faces, that they had been trying to free themselves.

Sometimes people who tried to prevent what they feared was a premature burial were dismissed as being mad with grief and unable to accept the reality of death.

In 1851 Virginia Macdonald, a girl living in New York, was buried after falling ill, despite her mother’s insistence that her daughter was not dead. The family tried to reassure the hysterical woman but to no avail, so they eventually had the body disinterred.

They found the deceased girl lying on her side, her hands badly bitten. It seemed she had woken in her coffin and begun eating her hands, either in terror or hunger.

Similarly, in 1903, a 14-year-old boy was buried in France, having been forcibly removed from his mother who protested that he was not dead. The day after his funeral she was found digging in the earth with her bare hands, trying to reach the coffin. The coffin was duly opened and the boy found inside, his body twisted from trying to break out: he had died from suffocation.

It is possible that, in some cases, what were thought to be signs of frantic attempts to escape were caused by the natural process of putrefaction or rigor mortis.

Grave robbers may in some cases have been responsible for the discovery of coffins with lids wrenched off and corpses in disarray. But sometimes there was no doubt that a living person had been buried.

Some of the most heartbreaking cases involved women whose deaths followed a complicated pregnancy.

Untreated eclampsia in pregnancy can lead to seizures and even coma. This may have been the case with Lavrinia Merli, a peasant girl living near Mantua in Italy, who was thought to have died from ‘hysterics’. She was interred in a vault in July1890. Although it is not clear why, the vault was opened two days later and it was found that the girl had regained consciousness, turned over in the coffin and given birth to a child. Both were dead.

A Berkshire doctor related the story of another young mother, the wife of an army medical officer stationed in the Tropics, who had suffered a severe heart pain shortly after giving birth. Despite the best efforts of doctors — including, presumably, her husband — she died, or at least appeared to have done.

She was immediately prepared for burial. But the attendants were unable to close her eyelids, so her eyes were open as her children came to pay their last respects.

After they left, the woman’s nurse began stroking the face of her dead mistress. To her amazement she detected the sound of breathing and raised the alarm.

Doctors held a mirror to her mouth but there was no vapour on the mirror and when they opened a vein in each arm, no blood flowed.

They were convinced that the woman was indeed dead, and preparations for her burial continued.

Yet the loyal nurse persisted, applying mustard to her mistress’s feet and waving burnt feathers under her nose in the hope of provoking an instinctive physical reaction.

Finally, this roused the woman from what was a trance.

After her rescue, she said she had been aware that her children had been there saying their goodbyes, and of her coffin being brought in, but felt powerless to speak. She was, it seems, suffering some kind of temporary paralysis as a result of giving birth.

Intriguingly, there are several cases of dogs saving their masters by barking at the coffin or attacking the pallbearers, forcing them to set the coffin down and open it up to find the occupant alive.

Whether the animals somehow sensed that these unfortunates were still living, we cannot know.

Some of those who narrowly escaped being buried alive, though, were so badly traumatised that they never recovered.

A girl named Sarah Ann Dobbins, from Hereford, was declared dead in 1879, having been in a ‘trance’ for three weeks.

Her body was laid out in preparation for burial and left in a locked room for the night. The next morning it looked as though the body had moved a bit. A doctor was summoned and the girl revived. Fourteen years later she committed suicide by drowning herself in the River Wye.

So widespread was the fear of premature burial that a Belgian called Count Michel de Karnicé-Karnicki invented a Heath Robinson-style coffin alarm. It comprised a glass ball that would be placed on the chest of the ‘corpse’.

If the chest moved a fraction, the ball would roll off, triggering a bell to ring and a flag to spring up four feet above ground. There was even a speaking tube so that the awakened corpse could cry for help.

The alarm was not a great success. The glass ball was too sensitive to allow for any movement in a decaying corpse, and the signalling system failed in a demonstration.

To avoid the possibility of interring the living, people who died in Germany were placed in ‘waiting mortuaries’ for several days before burial.

The coffins were left open and a ring with a cord attached to a bell was placed on the finger of each corpse, so that if they moved the attendants would be aroused.

One five-year-old boy who was thought to have died woke suddenly in a mortuary and was duly taken home to his grieving mother, who is said to have promptly expired herself from shock.

The fear of premature burial persists today and is occasionally exploited by Hollywood in horror movies. Nor is it an entirely baseless fear. It is not even unknown for modern doctors to mistake unconsciousness for death.

For example, a Fijian-born soldier had a narrow escape in 2007 when he was blown up by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. Despite medics’ best efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead.

It was only when his corpse was being washed before being put in a body bag that one of the medical team noticed a very weak pulse.

Diagnosed as being in a coma, he was flown to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.

Eight days later he came round to find that both his legs had been amputated, but went on to represent Britain in the discus event at the 2012 Paralympics.

A similar case was that of Maureen Jones, a 65-year-old grandmother from Yorkshire, who collapsed at home in 1996.

Her son called the GP, who decided that she had suffered a stroke and was dead. The undertakers were about to put her in a hearse when a policeman noticed her leg twitch and at once performed heart massage. Mrs Jones’s eyelids began fluttering and she opened her eyes.

She had been in a diabetic coma. She recovered, but four years later she was still having nightmares about being buried alive.

As such examples attest, the line between life and death can, even nowadays, be finer than we would like to believe. - Daily Mail

Spielberg tells Larry King he supports gov’t disclosure on UFOs

Documentary director, James Fox, finally revealed the contents of a letter from Steven Spielberg to Larry King regarding his UFO documentary, I Know What I Saw, at this year’s UFO Congress:

Dear Larry,

With great curiosity, I watched the documentary you sent over and found it compelling. Personally, I would like to think we are not alone, and even though I have devoted a generous percentage of my movies to extraterrestrial related themes, I for one have never seen a UFO. That is so unfair! (sic)

I hope you will continue to pursue this topic on your program, and that some day our government will offer a total disclosure about what they know about unidentified flying objects and their true and natural origins.

I continue to enjoy watching you and all your guests.

All my best,

Reader Submission: Similar Experience - Southern Illinois

I received a response to yesterday's post - Reader Submission: What Did I See? These incidents took place in southern Illinois and are similar to the Missouri encounter:

I couldn't believe it when I read the submission from Rhonda about the phantom dog (or being) that she saw crossing the street.

We have had 2 encounters with this in the last 2 months.

In the first encounter, my husband and I were driving about 35mph at the edge of Sparta in Southern Illinois. It was early January around 7PM and already dark out.

We were in a semi-residential area with some houses and a few businesses. My husband was driving and telling me a story when I saw a black streak run across the street (from left to right) in front of us. My impression was that it was a canine of some sort, but this was taller than any dog. It also didn't have a definite shape, just a black streak. The best way to describe it would be how cartoon characters are drawn when they are running really fast. A shape with a streak behind it. Except this was completely black. It also didn't have a lope or gait to it- it's movement was very smooth. It was very fast and this all happened in less than 2 seconds.

My husband didn't see anything because he had glanced at me to finish his story right then. We drove around looking for anything that would fit the description but didn't see any such animal.

The second sighting happened in mid February while we were at home. We have big bay windows and when you're sitting in the living room you can see out into the yard and a good portion of the road that runs in front of our house.

My husband, our 25 yr old daughter, and I were sitting there talking about the days events. It was supposed to start snowing and we all glanced outside to see if it had started yet. At that exact time we all saw a black streak zoom up the road (going North). It was going very fast. The speed limit in front of our house is 25 mph and if I had to guess I would say this was going 50 to 60 mph. We hurried out front to look some more but there was no sign of anything. What I saw that day was exactly what I had seen that other evening. My daughter and my husband individually recounted exactly what they had seen and we realized we had all seen the exact same thing. Both my daughter and husband said it seemed to be a canine form in a black streak. None of us has any explanation for what we saw.

We are about 30 minutes from Missouri and I find it interesting that Rhonda's sighting was in Missouri - right across the Mississippi River.

I wonder if others are experiencing this too? Rhonda's is the first story I've read that describes what we saw.

Have a wonderful day, Stacy

NOTE: The fact that there were several witnesses may lend credence that this was a cryptid...though, I personally believe that this was a supernatural being. In recent years, I have come to the conclusion that many cryptids may have supernatural and/or multidimensional aspects. These sightings of 'fleeting' creatures, including Bigfoot and other cryptids, have changed my perspective into the nature of these beings. I sense there is a very fine line between all paranormal and spiritual the point where an actual relationship exists between these entities. I also perceive that there has been actual influence by others...including non-terrestrial interdimensional authority. More and more, my impression is that all life on this Earth plane has been imprinted by other dominions and that these forces will continue to impact us indefinitely. Some of these real-life experiences are described in my book - Phantoms & Monsters: Cryptid Encounters...Lon

Russell Crowe's UFO

Russell Crowe has sparked a furore after claiming to have photographed a UFO outside the window of his office.

The Hollywood megastar posted a video on YouTube which he says could show a spaceship moving across the night sky.

The actor seems to have anticipated that some would be sceptical of his supernatural claims, as the clip was captioned 'THESE ARE REAL'.

Mr Crowe, star of blockbusters including Gladiator and Les Misérables, put the video online yesterday.

He titled it: 'UFO? Time Lapse Photos Outside RC's Woolloomooloo Office (THESE ARE REAL!)'

The clip is a montage of five photographs apparently taken seconds apart, with a flash of red and yellow light moving across the screen.

The source of the light appears to be suspended in the sky above the trees which are the main focus of the images.

Mr Crowe later added: 'A friend and I set camera to capture fruit bats rising from Botanic Gardens, this was a big surprise'.

In a response to fans who suggested that the spooky effect came from the camera itself, he wrote: 'Canon 5D, no flash, can't be a lens flare because it moves, camera is fixed'.

A number of his online followers responded with ridicule, with one writing: 'Please never post anything online again Russell. It's just embarrassing.'

One even made fun of the star's past, saying: 'It's probably a telephone, flying past the window at someone's head.'

But some were more constructive, offering explanations for the phenomenon including suggestions the light came from a nearby mobile phone or car headlights.

Mr Crowe took to Twitter again today to refute suggestions that the photographs were manipulated in some way.

He wrote: 'I will grant you at the time the music wasn't playing, also, yes, we have pushed in on the frame... this is three photos in order, nothing added'.

The 48-year-old Australian came to international fame in LA Confidential, and went on to win an Oscar for his role in 2000's Gladiator.

He has also appeared in hits such as A Beautiful Mind, American Gangster and most recently Les Misérables.

His latest role is alongside Mark Wahlberg in Broken City, which has just been released in the UK and Australia, prompting rumours the UFO video could be nothing more than an attempt to drum up publicity. - Daily Mail

African bush banging....not a good idea!

A woman was mauled to death by a lion as she made love to her boyfriend outdoors in Zimbabwe, it was reported today.

Sharai Mawera died yesterday after the big cat pounced while she was enjoying a romantic moment in the bush with her unnamed partner.

The My Zimbabwe news website reported that the predator attacked the couple at a secluded spot in the bush near the northern town of Kariba.

Ms Mawera's boyfriend, who has not been identified, is believed to have jumped up and fled in the nude when the lion lunged forward.

A source told the newspaper the young woman died at the scene.

He said: 'Unfortunately the woman was mauled to death by the lion, but her boyfriend managed to escape naked.'

The friend said: 'He is a fisherman and he used to often meet at the same spot with his girlfriend, who is now deceased.

'The two were romping when the incident occurred. The lion came from behind and roared.

'The guy managed to escape before stopping at a distance where he witnessed his companion being attacked.

'He later rushed to the road seeking help.'

My Zimbabwe reported that the terrified man managed to raise the alarm.

Local police and armed rangers from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority rushed to the scene.

The source said: 'Cops and officers attended the scene and fired a single shot before getting to the spot.

'The woman had already been killed. She had bloody bruises all over her body. Her neck and tummy had been mauled.'

Rangers launched a hunt for the lion following the tragedy, amid concern the same animal may have killed a local man who disappeared at the weekend.

The remains of the victim were found yesterday on the outskirts of the town, which lies near the Zambezi river.

Police believe the man, who has not been named, was mauled by a lion as he walked home from a nightclub.

Zimbabwe's state-controlled Herald newspaper reported that officers believed the fact the woman killed yesterday was mauled rather than eaten suggested the same lion could have been responsible for both attacks and not regained its appetite since devouring part of its first victim.

The newspaper added: 'Residents of the town are now living in fear as the lions are still roaming freely as there are yet to be caught.' - Daily Mail

FAA investigating report of drone spotted near NYC

Was that a drone flying over metro New York Monday?

That's what a pilot for Italian carrier Alitalia reported seeing from the cockpit of a flight landing at New York's JFK Airport. The pilot informed the air traffic control tower, and now his spotting has drawn the attention of both Federal Aviation Administration and counter-terrorism officials.

"The FAA is investigating a report... he saw a small, unmanned or remote-controlled aircraft while on final approach to Runway 31 Right," FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown says in a statement quoted by CNN. "The sighting was approximately four to five miles (from) the airport at an altitude of approximately 1,500 feet."

New York's Joint Terror Task Force also is investigating, according to both ABC News and the New York Post report. Both cite unnamed sources.

"He was very clear as to what he saw," a source tells the Post about the pilot's account of "a black drone."

Other than the pilot's sighting, the Alitalia flight landed at JFK without incident.

An aviation expert tells the Post it's possible the unverified flying object was an enthusiast's model aircraft. However, the expert – also unnamed – said he couldn't recall any other incidents in which such a model veered so close to a commercial aircraft.

Even if it was a remote-controlled recreational model, FAA guidelines say such objects may only fly to 400 feet high and must alert air traffic control if they are going to fly within three miles of an airport, according to CNN.

The object reported by the Alitalia pilot was at about 1,500 feet, ABC News' sources say.

CNN adds that "flying unmanned aerial vehicles is illegal for most business purposes; however, governments and public entities such as police departments can apply for permission to operate them." - USA Today

China imprisons four men for 'ghost marriage' corpse bride trafficking

A county court in central China has sentenced four men to prison for digging up and selling corpses on the black market to enable "ghost marriages", a millennia-old custom of burying deceased bachelors alongside newly deceased wives so that they will not grow lonely in the afterlife.

On Saturday, the Xi'an Evening News reported that the Yanchuan county court in Yan'an City, Shanxi province, sentenced each of the men to more than two years in prison for stealing 10 female corpses, cleaning them up and counterfeiting their medical records to boost their prices, and selling them on the black market for a total of £25,000.

Ritual ghost marriages, which may date back to the 17th century BC, are increasingly rare in contemporary China – Mao Zedong tried to eliminate them when he assumed power in 1949 – but they are still practised in rural parts of Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan, Hebei and Guangdong provinces. Families often employ a matchmaker to help find a suitable spouse for their deceased loved ones.

The four men, with surnames Pang, Bai, He and Zhang, exhumed the corpses in the winter of 2011 from a smattering of arid, coal-rich counties in Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces.

The state-run Global Times newspaper reported in 2011 that an influx of coal money to parts of northern Shaanxi province bolstered the area's underground corpse trade, with a newly wealthy but superstitious demographic suddenly being able to afford high prices for desirable postmortem mates. Some are known to purchase their corpse brides straight from hospitals, where they cut deals with grieving families.

This is not the first time that ghost marriage intermediaries have fallen on the wrong side of the law. One woman died over the lunar new year in February 2012 and was sold by her family to the family of a recently deceased young man for about £3,700; soon afterwards, police caught a graverobber selling her twice-exhumed body to another family for slightly less.

In 2009, a grieving father in Xianyang City, also in Shaanxi province, paid a team of graverobbers £2,700 to find a suitable bride for his son, who had died in a car crash. They were arrested for exhuming the remains of a teenage girl who had killed herself not long after failing her college entrance exams.

According to the Global Times, less affluent families who desire ghost marriages may use a non-human proxy for the corpse bride, such as a silver statuette or a doughy human-shaped biscuit with black beans for eyes. Some may buy an old, rotten corpse at a discounted price, dress it in clothing and reinforce its skeleton with steel wire.

The tradition has its own set of customs and rituals, including postmortem marriages with sumptuous feasts and dowries, according to the report. - Guardian

Reader Submission: What Did I See?

I received the following inquiry a few days ago:

Hello Lon, I wanted to share this with you - it happened about a month ago.

I was on my way home from work. It was around 3:00 in the afternoon and was raining and cold - but not a heavy rain, just enough to use the wiper delay. I was in the city where I work in Missouri. Instead of taking the highway I took a town route. There is two lanes going eastbound and two lanes going westbound and one lane for turning in the middle. I was heading westbound. Lots of traffic this day going both ways. We all were driving not even close to a stoplight yet. so we were doing probably around 35 to 40 MPH.

On my left side I see this animal (I guess it was an animal), not running - but what looked like flying, but on the ground one side to the other. No one screeched there brakes - no one stopped at all. I reached to where it had crossed the road and witnessed it continuing to go down an alley way.

It wasn't a dog or a deer. I'm not sure what it was - just looked like a slim long animal with a pointed fact. At first I thought it was a greyhound type dog, but I thought about it and realized that it wasn't a dog. No one reacted like they even noticed it and whatever it was didnt dodge vehicles like a dog would or any other animal would have. I cant explain it.

I have experienced paranormal activity in my house - I've seen shadow figures twice, which also pulled my pony tail and poked me. Since my husband died in April of 2012, I have witnessed weird stuff - you would possibly expect from someone who has departed this earth. If anyone knows what animal could move like that, I would love to find out. I am ordering a dash cam, so next time people I tell can see it if it happens again .

Thank you, Rhonda from Missouri

NOTE: under the circumstances Rhonda has described, I would tend to believe that she witnessed an apparition or manifestation of a spirit energy...not a cryptid or flesh & blood creature. Earthbound entities can take many different forms and are usually visible to people who are attuned to certain vibrations. These people, of which Rhonda may be associated as, are what we call 'beacons'...the living who attract spiritual energy and/or have the ability to detect certain manifestations. This may very well be the case in this situation. Since her husband's passing she may have become more attune to these energies and has started to notice more activity in and out of her residence...Lon

UFO Radiating Light Injures Rancher, Kills Dog

Angel Maria Tonna is a 52-year-old rancher who owns 3,000 acres of farm land 15 kilometers (9 miles) south of Salto, Uruguay, a city of 40,000 people located on the Uruguay River. The ranch is primarily a cattle ranch and Mr. Tonna, 2 sons, 19 and 22 years of age, and 11 farmhands, tend 730 head of cattle and numerous sheep.

The Tonna family led a relatively uneventful life in their rural home until February and March of this year when Tonna, the two sons, Mrs. Tonna, their 15-year-old daughter and the farm hands began seeing UFOs in the area. They had approximately a dozen sightings during that time.

The most interesting incident took place at about 4 a.m. on February 18 when Tonna and his foreman, Juan Manuel Fernandez, were driving about 80 cows into the barn for milking. When Tonna gets up in the morning, the first thing he does is to turn on the generator, which powers approximately 20 lights in the barnyard area.

On the morning in question, Tonna said, he was bringing the cows in at about 4:10 a.m., when all of the lights went out, whereupon a bright light appeared on the east end of the barn (the end farthest from him) and he was able to make out the shadow of the barn. Tonna originally thought the power outage was a short circuit and he kept hay in that part of the barn so he thought it had somehow caught fire.

Tonna jumped over the fence and ran toward the Source of the light at the end of the barn. His dog Topo (Dunce in Spanish) who was a constant companion during Tonna's walks around the ranch, was with him. "Then I heard a noise" he said, and he saw a fiery disc like two plates placed face to face hovering a short distance above the ground behind the barn. He stood and watched the object until his foreman told him the cows were running away, then he noticed that the cows "were going crazy" and all the dogs were barking.

At this point, the disc began to move in a southerly direction, breaking off the branches of a tree near the barn. The object displayed a rocking motion as it flew, and stopped and hovered over some trees about 100 yards south of the barn at an altitude of about 60 feet. It stayed there only a moment, then moved east another 75 yards or so, and stopped above a concrete bath that the cows were forced to walk through to disinfect them. By then, Tonna and his dog, a 60-pound black and brown police dog, had run back to the west side of the barnyard and climbed back over the fence. The light from the object illuminated the whole barnyard, and Tonna said he felt attracted to it. Tonna and Topo walked a few feet toward the UFO and it made another turn and began moving toward them. It came to a stop about 60 feet from them and Topo ran toward it to attack it and protect Tonna, but stopped and sat on a small mound about 15 feet from the object and looked up at it and howled.

When the object started moving toward Tonna, he noticed six beams of light "like small wings" - three on each side. At that point, Tonna said, he felt electric shocks which went all through his body and a very intense heat hit him. He flung his arm up over his face to shield his eyes. He said he felt attracted to the light and couldn't move. "I don't know if I couldn't move or didn't want to," he said.

After several minutes the object began moving away, turning from its original bright orange color to red. It increased its speed as the color changed and when it got to the forest about a half a mile to the south, it was out of sight.

When the object left, the generator started running again but didn't produce any electricity because the wires were burned out. The whole incident lasted about 10 minutes and Tonna's 19-year-old son, who is a second year veterinary student at the University in Salto, witnessed the whole episode from the house. The farm workers normally rise at 4:30 a.m. and those who were awake at the time saw only a bright light in the barnyard.

Following the incident the dog would not eat or drink. He moved around normally but stayed in the house all day, which was unusual. On the morning of the third day after the incident, Topo was found dead on the same mound where he had sat and howled at the disc.

An autopsy was performed at the ranch by a veterinarian who teaches at the North University in Salto and he was assisted by Tulio Tonna and three other second year veterinary students. The Doctor will not discuss the case but he did let Tulio make a copy ot the autopsy report which said, in part:

"The hair along the animal's spine was sticky but completely hard. The fat under the skin was found on the outside. The fat is normally solid, so to get to the outside it had to be melted and come through the pores. Once it was outside it solidified again. The animal was exposed to a very high temperature that can't be reached naturally by the dog.

"All the blood vessels had been bleeding very much and all the capillaries were broken. The rupture of the blood vessels was caused by an increase in temperature that couldn't be natural.

"The liver, normally dark and red, was completely yellow, caused by a high fever. All the blood vessels were yellow too.

"With all the blood vessels broken, the animal started bleeding inside and lost so much blood that 48 hours later the amount of blood he had circulating was insufficient and he died of a heart attack."

"When we took the skin off the dog, we didn't see any marks. He didn't have any bruises or anything -nor was the hair burned. The conclusion was that something very hot caused this."

On the morning after the incident, the underside of Mr. Tonna's right arm, which he had put up to shield his eyes, began hurting. Several days later, Dr. Bruning Herrera, a friend of the Tonnas, aid a physician in Saito, paid the Tonnas a personal visit. Tonna confided that he wasn't feeling well and Herrera examined him. He found that the underside of Tonna's right arm was very red and, after being told about the UFO incident, decided the irritation was caused by some kind of radiation. He suggested that Tonna go and have a special examination but Tonna would have had to go to Montevideo, 300 miles away, and he didn't want to take the time. Instead he treated himself with some home remedies. Eventually the ailing arm cleared up with no lingering after-effects. - APRO, August, 1977

What Happened at La Aurora?
by Pablo Villarubia Mausó

I left Montevideo behind and was heading toward the city of Salto on the Argentinean border, riding a dilapidated bus in order to rescue from oblivion the events which occurred one distant February 17, 1977. The central protagonist of the story was the owner of the La Aurora ranch, a man named Angel María Tronna. The victims included one dog, several sheep, a bull and one horse -- gravely affected by an object come from afar.

The first thing I did upon arriving was making a straight line toward the office of the El Pueblo newspaper to consult old newspapers which would put me on the track of the "Tonna Case". The Saturday the 19th edition was already legendary, since it presented the first news item on the macabre event.

On Sunday, February 13, 1977, at 5:30 a.m., Julio Cesar Rattín, 18, the youngest son of Angel Tonna, witnessed a UFO at a distance of some 150 meters, suspended of a copse of eucalyptus trees. It was light-emitting disk that illuminated a broad swath of countryside. On the following day, Monday at midnight, Tonna's wife, Elena Margarita Rattín, was watching TV before going to bed when a blackout suddenly occured. Upon going outside to insure the operation of their generator, she noticed an intense glow over La Aurora. Frightened, she ran back into the house.

It was the February 20, 1977 edition that anounced half a page saying "UFO in a ranch near the Daymán: Seen on three occasions." The anonymous journalist said that at 04:00 on February 17, Tonna, his children and some farmhands witnessed a strong light coming from behind a shed in which they stored feed. It was then that they saw a "flying saucer" measuring some 3 meters in diameter at an altitude of 15 meters. "The cows were frightened and stampeded, trampling one of the workers; the dogs howled in terror and we couldn't contain our astonishment. I was able to notice that the lights of the farm and the vicinity were totaly out and that the generator "coughed", threatening to seize up. THe disk moved slowly, almost in a zig-zag motion, and after passing over the pasture pond it headed toward the eucalyptus copse--the same one as on Sunday--and after a while wi didn't see it again," Tonna told the journalist.

The journalist interviewed the children and farmhands of the property. All versions agreed. Tonna spoke of the strange prints that had emerged three months ago on the pasture, shaped like a horseshoe 40 to 50 cm wide and with some parts more deeply sunk into the ground than others. It had a diameter of 3 meters and a variety of mushrooms began to grow inside it. At first the grass was burned but another type of grass soon sprang up to replace it. In spite of the assortment of data offered by the journalistic account, there were even more important elements missing -- some which Angel María Tonna and his people decided not to tell the reporter from El Pueblo.

The Mummified Dogs

It wasn't easy for me to find out more about La Aurora. I ased a few people on the street about the subject, even though 20 years had gone by, the memory fo the event was still fresh in the minds of many citizens. Some said it had all been a hoax, a lie, and others beleived that it was real and were even aware of the appearance of "unidentifieds" in the region for a few years now. Even luckier ones had also witnessed the transit of "flying saucers" over the county, such as twenty-year old Andrea Carpanesi. "What I am going to tell you took place in early 1997 at around 23:30 hours in front of the house in which I live. I was with my friend Cecilia, and looking northward an intense light appeared. The entire neighborhood was looking at it. It was almost orange in color, making a pendular movement. It lasted five minutes. Seeing such things is commonplace around here," Andrea said.

"Could you find out if it was a satellite or an aircraft?" I inquired.

"I called the weather bureau and I was told that no satellites were flying overhead, nor weather balloons or aircraft. They couldn't tell me what it was, iether. But I can tell you something else that's very interesting..."

"Go ahead," I encouraged her.

"Around 1993 I studied at the Universidad de Salto. The word spread that the School of Veterinary Medicine had two very strange dogs. With one of my friends, we sneaked into one of the labs, since it was forbidden to see these animals. I remember it all perfectly because it scared me. We saw a dead dog that had been propped up "alive". It was intact and even looked alive. It was black in color and medium-sized. Some students said that for unknown reasons, both this and another dog which I couldn't see did not decompose or didn't do so with the normal speed associated with death. Furthermore, they added that they had been found at the La Aurora ranch. Nothing further was ever said about the subejct," explained Campanesi.

That very same day I headed to the School of Veterinary Medicine. Everything I heard upon asking about dead dogs at La Aurora was a "we don't know" and an almost unbearable silence accompanied by not very friendly glances...

The next step in assembling this puzzle was to find journalist Carlos Ardaix, one of the first to appear after the incidents of February 1977. This man, with a Basque-French surname, welcomed me into his home and told me about his contact with Angel Tonna: "At that time hosted a radio show with a considerable following. It was when Angel Maria Tonna phoned me adn said: "If you want to know the truth atbout La Aurora and why the city's lights went out, come over." I went with two or three people from the radio sation. When we arrived Tonna was still rather upset. He told me that at 0400 hours they had seen a light behind the shed and thought that it was on fire. The horses, the dogs...all of the animals were frightened. Tonna walked to some 50 meters of where the apparatus was. It approached slowly and Angel fell to the ground, covering his face with his arm to avoid the powerful light. Later the object vanished at high speed," the newspaperman explained.
There was talk of burned or severed wires...

"When I reached the ranch the steel wires were still cut and the cables of the electrical facility. The engine's piston broke down, a very expensive breeding bull died slowly...I understand that an autopsy was performed on it at the School of Medicine and no cause of death was established. The same happened to several sheep, whose wool was singed black and left like rough wifer. A very fierce dog that Tonna kept died little by little. Tonna had a skin eruption on the arm that he used to shield his face from the light.
You did not doubt Tonna's information?

No, he seemed very sincere. In any event, as a journalist, I tried to find other witnesses. One of the farmhands had already seen something similar near the site. I visited other farms near La Aurora, sicne i thought a local may have seen the UFO. I asked a foreman and he told me hadn't seen anything at night. As we walked out, a farmhand chopping wood told me: "We all saw what happened at night, but we were forbidden to speak of it." After that we transmitted Tonna's recording over the air. There was a chain reaction. Many people started visiting the site, like those Americans who wanted to take him back to the U.S. for testing.

Do you recall who these men were?

No. It was said at the time that they were from NASA, but I'm not sure. I think there was an American journalist [among them]. At the time the Salto Grande dam was being built and there were Japanese engineers staying at the farm. One physician--Dr. Menoni--discovered through some photographs that there was considerable radiation in the trees at La Aurora. The Japanese confirmed it on their measurment devices.
What about the burns on Tonna's arm?

It was a burn that would reoccur sporadically. The electocardiogram machine would't work when the electrodes would be placed on him. That's what two doctors I know told me. After two years the burns began to fade. It was something truly strange that could've had something to do with radiation.

So..what about the blackouts?

No one has been able to explain why there were so many blackouts in 1977. On the night on which the events played out in La Aurora there was a half-hour long blackout. In following days there were others, always whenever UFOs appeared.

Could there have been somtehing more behind the events? Human manipulation perhaps?

Never! I can tell you that the breeding bull he had died, and it was worth a fortune. That wasn't a joke. The pedigree horse didn't die...he was a stud and was rendered sterile.

Is it true that the ranch became a place of pilgrimage?

Yes, but Angel Tonna, in recent years, is sick of receiving callers and has chosen not to let anyone in and to refuse interviews. I understand, because he wants to work normally, look after his animals and his property. So many people came from all over the world came, like American ufologists James Hurtak and Bob Pratt, Pedro Romaniuk from Argentina. Tonna showed me a letter in which Antonio Ribera claimed to be interested in visiting La Aurora but he couldn't come. The most controversial was a visit by Neil Armstrong, the first man on the Moon. No one knows why he visited...
And to these pilgrimages still go on?

Sometimes entire buses of people come seeking cures. Yes, they think the place was blessed by a supernatural force. It was decided to build a crypt to Padre Pío there and don't ask me why. The people who find the warning sign advising them to stay away from La Aurora cross the road where they find the chapel of teh prioest that makes miracles, healings...

Radioactivity on the Farm

On the following day I tried contacting Tonna and his relatives using the phone numbers featured in the localk directory. After some frustrated events, I managed to speak to one of his sons, the veterinarian, and he told me that his father no longer spoke of Angel Tonna. The matter was closed for him.

My only alternative was to open other fronts. One of these was to locate doctor Juan María Menoni, the same one who took photographs in the area which showed traces of radiation. "I'm not a ufologist," he said, "but I became interested in the case at the time. When I visited the site, I found that part of the fence had been melted. The generator and the motor had burned out. I took a sample of tree bark that had been burned by the UFO. A photographer friend suggested that I place the piece of bark over a strip of 35mm film. When we developed the film some strange spots appeared on the film.

Without a word, Menoni went to his office and returned with some photo enlargements which showed the result of the vegetable matter's exposure. "It's curious. It seemed to be charged with radiation, but where was the radiation coming from? It must've been from the mysterious flying saucer."

A few days later, in Buenos Aires, I had an interview with famous parapsychologist and ufologist Antonio Las Heras, who had visited La Aurora in 1978 to look into the case. "What happened there drew my attention. I saw the trees, the toppled eucalyptuses, almost uprooted, as though a giant hand had played with them. I saw the branches ripped off by a UFO's effects. In fact, they looked like someone had smashed them, making them tumble over and over. I found calcined rock with vitreous formation on the sandstone. For vitrification to occur, the tempuratures must be in excess of a thousand degrees [Centigrade]. I saw giant mushrooms measuring a meter and a half in diameter, standing inside the strange marks left by the UFOs. Only radiation could have mutated those living organisms."

Las Heras told me that Tonna had been accompanied by a police dog that fateful night. "The animal died three days later. They said that it had no blood, as though it had been absorbed through its flesh, which had developed an inconsistent appearance, like flesh that has been boiled. The dog's skin was burned in seeral pales and its tail hairs were bristled like wire. No one was able to offer a diagnosis for what occurred," he said, shaking his head.

"What happened to the bull?" I asked, trying to avoid showing surprise at his words.

"It was a show animal of great value and it died with the very same symptoms as the dog, but after a week. The horse--a stallion--was left sterile. The sheep deaths were also mysterious: they had a sort of band around their bodies which passed through their withers. IT was really a burned patch, as though a branding iron had been applied, according to Tonna."

That made me react, associating the facts with the enigmatic manifestationsof the infamous Chupacabras, but much later, in the mid-Nineties. A large amount of farm animals turned up dead in several Latin American countries, generally bled dry, attacked by an unknown creature or force.

Uruguayan ufologist Jorge Monsalve, whom I couldn't locate, also interviewed Tonna around the time. In his book Encuentros Cercanos con OVNIS (Montevideo, 1995), Monsalve explains how he arrived in time to see the Normandy bull, imported from France, still alive. Tonna asked the man to touch the animal's horns: "That being said, I extended my hand and [the horn] practically crumbled in my fingers. A sad and disagreeable experience." - Inexplicata

Just the Facts?: Mysterious Light Creates Circle of Fire - Mutated Rats Invade Tehran -- Child Born w/ HIV Cured

Mysterious Light Creates Circle of Fire

Tasmanian police and firefighters are unable to explain the source of a beam of light which reportedly fell from the sky and formed a circle of fire in a Hobart suburb.

Early Saturday morning police and fire crews received calls from concerned residents in Carnegie Street at Claremont, who reported seeing a bright light igniting a fire in a nearby paddock.

Tasmania Fire Service officer Scott Vinen says the blaze was quickly put out, leaving an obvious burnt patch.

He says the bizarre incident has everyone baffled.

"Once we put the fire out, we kind of walked through the fire and tried to find something," he said.

"We thought a flare or something may have landed there, but we couldn't find any cause."

The Fire Service says it will not investigate further. -

Mutated Rats Invade Tehran

Tehran, the capital of Iran, is battling an invasion of "genetically mutated" giant rats.

Iran has sent in sniper teams to clear Tehran's streets from the massive rodents weighting up to five kilos plaguing 26 district of the Iranian capital, the city's environmental agency said.

"They seem to have had a genetic mutation, probably as a result of radiations and the chemical used on them," Ismail Kahram, Teheran city council environment adviser and university professor Ismail Kahram told

"They are now bigger and look different. These are changes that normally take millions of years of evolution. They have jumped from 60 grams to five kilos, and cats are now smaller than them."

The "mutated rats" have been running rampant in the capital, as cats are scared off by their giant size and traditional poison appear to have no effect on them.

To stop them storming of restaurants' backyards and scavenging public waste containers, the council has deployed ten snipers teams armed with infra-red sighted rifles.

"We use chemical poisons to kill the rats during the day and the snipers at night, so it has become a 24/7 war," the head of the environment agency, Mohammad Hadi Heydarzadeh, said.

Rats' carcasses are burnt or buried in lime.

So far 2,205 rats have been shot dead, but the war is far to be won and the council is planning to bring the snipers team up to 40. - SINA

US doctors cure child born with HIV

Doctors in the US have made medical history by effectively curing a child born with HIV, the first time such a case has been documented.

The infant, who is now two and a half, needs no medication for HIV, has a normal life expectancy and is highly unlikely to be infectious to others, doctors believe.

Though medical staff and scientists are unclear why the treatment was effective, the surprise success has raised hopes that the therapy might ultimately help doctors eradicate the virus among newborns.

Doctors did not release the name or sex of the child to protect the patient's identity, but said the infant was born, and lived, in Mississippi state. Details of the case were unveiled on Sunday at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Atlanta.

Dr Hannah Gay, who cared for the child at the University of Mississippi medical centre, told the Guardian the case amounted to the first "functional cure" of an HIV-infected child. A patient is functionally cured of HIV when standard tests are negative for the virus, but it is likely that a tiny amount remains in their body.

"Now, after at least one year of taking no medicine, this child's blood remains free of virus even on the most sensitive tests available," Gay said.

"We expect that this baby has great chances for a long, healthy life. We are certainly hoping that this approach could lead to the same outcome in many other high-risk babies," she added.

The number of babies born with HIV in developed countries has fallen dramatically with the advent of better drugs and prevention strategies. Typically, women with HIV are given antiretroviral drugs during pregnancy to minimise the amount of virus in their blood. Their newborns go on courses of drugs too, to reduce their risk of infection further. The strategy can stop around 98% of HIV transmission from mother to child. Continue reading at Guardian

200-Year-Old “Egg-Shaped” Rock In Bosnia Gains New Attention

In the Bosnian town of Kostajnica, a strange egg-shaped rock rests outside a stone quarry, where miners found it hundreds of years ago.

It’s said to be a meteorite that fell from the moon, and given the recent apocalyptic meteor shower that occurred in Russia just this month, it’s gained some new found attention.

Weighing several tonnes, the “meteorite” (according to legend) struck the town 200 years ago. Elders told of the stone falling from the sky, perhaps from the moon. Houses in the area collapsed, and the rock was so hot as to be unapproachable.

Today, it’s become something of a tourist attraction, especially now that meteors are kind of, well, “in” right now. Video - Bosnia 'meteor' intrigues new generation in wake of Russia strike
