Daily 2 Cents: John Kerry Says Oswald Didn't Act Alone -- Real-Life 'Magneto' -- Porcupine Quills Can Kill

Oswald May Not Have Acted Alone in Kennedy Assassination Says John Kerry

There are many conspiracy theorists who feel that Lee Harvey Oswald may not have acted alone when he shot John F. Kennedy to death in Dallas in 1963. John Kerry is one of those theorists. Kerry revealed his doubts to Tom Brokaw on NBC during filming of a special on the Kennedy assassination, saying that he has always thought there was a chance Oswald may have been directly influenced by others.

Although many Kennedy assassination theorists believe that members of our own government may have played a role in Kennedy’s death, Kerry says he does not think that the United States government was involved in the assassination, explaining:

To this day, I have serious doubts that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I certainly have doubts that he was motivated by himself, I mean I’m not sure if anybody else was involved — I don’t go down that road with respect to the Grassy Knoll theory and all that — but I have serious questions about whether they got to the bottom of Lee Harvey Oswald’s time and influence from Cuba and Russia. I think he (Oswald) was inspired somewhere by something.
The Warren Commission, the special commission formed by the government to do a thorough examination of Kennedy’s assassination, found that Oswald was the only shooter and that he acted alone. The report has come under much scrutiny from those who have an intense interest in the events that happened on Nov. 22, 1963 as well as from the general public. Many thousands of pages and hundreds of books have been written about conspiracies surrounding the assassination. Some of the most popular theories and ideas about the event include:

-Oswald was prompted to shoot Kennedy by the mafia because Bobby Kennedy had promised to focus on ridding society of organized crime.

-The KGB was behind the killing, using Oswald as the agent of Kennedy’s demise. Oswald did have ties to Russia, having lived there before the assassination.

-Additional shots were fired from “the grassy knoll,” a small area next to the book repository, suggesting that there were multiple shooters.

-The shooting was arranged by Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson and J. Edgar Hoover working together.

-Oswald was not the shooter at all, but merely an innocent fall guy for the real killer, who may have been more directly connected to Cuba than Oswald himself. Oswald was a member of a group sympathetic to Cuba and had taken part in activism in support of Cuba.

-The shooting was arranged by the CIA to cover up Kennedy’s interest in UFOs and aliens (aka the “he knows too much” theory.)

-The Illuminati was behind the assassination because (fill in any one of hundreds of convoluted reasons here.)

There are many other conspiracy theories about Kennedy’s assassination, some of which are so bizarre they barely make sense at all. Kerry’s theory, some say, is more plausible than the rest given that Oswald did indeed have ties to both Cuba and Russia prior to Kennedy’s death.

John Kerry says that Lee Harvey Oswald may not have acted alone in the assassination of John F. Kennedy, reflecting a general societal feeling that the government is hiding something as it pertains to the event. Since the Warren Commission report was completed in 1964, public perception has never swung in favor of complete trust of the document. A recent gallop poll, completed this year, showed that 59% of Americans still think Oswald did not act alone and that something is being covered up in the case. Guardian LV

Batman bin Suparman Jailed

A Singaporean man, Batman bin Suparman, an unemployed 23-year-old was jailed for two years and nine months on Monday for theft, housebreaking and consuming heroin.

District Judge Wong Choon Ning could not suppress a smile when she heard his name.

In July, Batman's elder brother, Mr Nurazman Suparman, 28, reported to the police that his ATM card was missing and there had been unauthorised withdrawals amounting to $650. Investigations then revealed that Batman had stolen the ATM card from their home so as to make the withdrawals.

On the night of August 9, he broke into the office of GF Billiards & Marketing. He then stole $200 from $430 placed in a drawer, probably in the hope that the missing amount might not be noticed. That was not so. An employee checked the surveillance video footage and saw that a thief had forced open a window to enter the premises. Police were informed and Batman was arrested on August 19. A urine test revealed that he had also been abusing heroin.

Man claims he has magnetic powers, can make objects stick to body

Miroslaw Magola claims that he has the ability to magnetize metal objects and stick them to his body.

The 55-year-old can often be seen showcasing his unusual talent by sticking a variety of metal objects to his skin without the use of glue or adhesives. The attraction is so strong in fact that he can jump around with anything from beer cans to metal cookware attached to his body without them falling off.

"I found out I could train myself to manipulate lifeless objects as I studied for my degree in the early 90s," he said. "I have since spent years perfecting the technique and exploring further into human magnetism."

Despite skepticism from others, Magola maintains that his powers are genuine and that he uses no tricks to achieve his feats of magnetism. "I am determined to develop my unique powers further in the future, and I'm currently working with telepathy and healing to see how psychokinetic energy can be put to a use that will benefit mankind," he said.

Magola hopes to take things one step further by attempting to win James Randi's One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge, a prize made available to anyone who can satisfactorily prove that psychic powers exist. "I want to do it live in TV and cannot wait to get a reaction from an audience and prove to skeptics who claim it is all a hoax," he said. Read more at NY Daily News

Porcupine Quills Can Kill

Remember that scene in Homeward Bound when Chance, the lovable rascal of a pooch, got in a tussle with a porcupine? “Ah! He bit me with his butt!” said Chance, his face full of quills. As it turns out, Chance could have had it much, much worse. According to new research, porcupine quills aren’t just a painful deterrent, they’re deadly daggers that porcupines are not afraid to use to kill.

In a new study by Emiliano Mori and colleagues, the team recorded, for the first time, porcupines using their quills to stab and kill foxes, badgers and dogs. Science magazine:

They identified four defenses that the animals employed, in order of increasing aggression: quill erection, tail rattling, stamping and growling, and backwards or sideways attacks. The porcupines never used the latter two in one-on-one encounters, but rather as last resorts when an individual was outnumbered, or if multiple porcupines were present and more likely to inflict serious damage. In one such case, two porcupines ran backwards, forcing a dog into their den, where they fatally impaled it with their quills.

It should not be surprising that spines evolved for defense can do their job; it is a reminder to not take any creature’s anger too lightly. Piss porcupines off enough, and they’ve got the tools to get you back. - Smithsonian Mag
