Mysterious finned creature sighted off Lincolnshire coast

A mysterious sea creature captured on video off the Skegness coast has been intriguing marine experts and beach-goers alike.

The footage, shot on Sunday, shows several fins bobbing up and down in the choppy water, just metres off the coast where children can be seen paddling in the shallow water.

London resident Rebecca Clarke, who took the video while visiting friends in Skegness, initially thought it was just rubbish floating on the surface but on further inspection decided it may be some sort of creature.

She said: “It might seem silly but I thought it looked rather reptilian, like a crocodile or a dragon as the fins seemed more rigid than they do on sharks.”

The video has since become a topic of conversation on national breakfast radio shows, with hosts offering outlandish suggestions for the creature’s taxonomy including a ‘sea monster’ or a ‘20 foot worm’,

Skegness RNLI coxswain John Irving was also intrigued by the footage of the creature, which he felt could either be a killer whale or a basking shark.

Neither species are regular visitors to the east coast, however a confirmed killer whale sighting had been made off the Wells coast in Norfolk earlier this year.

And Mr Irving has himself sighted a basking shark near Skegness, although that was many years ago.

Senior biologist Marcus Williams at the National Aquarium in Portsmouth has since confirmed that it is most likely one or two basking sharks.

He said: “It is unusual to see a basking shark for that area of coast, they are, however, typically spotted in the summer months and these we would estimate are larger than five meters.

“We have recently seen a second plankton bloom on which the species feed, with water temperatures in excess of 15 degrees Celsius, which are perfect conditions for these gentle giants.

“Interestingly, in the video, the water is choppy and typically not most suitable for basking sharks to feed.

“As a charity, with conservation at our core, we’d urge people to admire these spectacular creatures that are anything but monsters.” - skegnessstandard

Spain: Humanoids or Religious Phenomena?

Some time ago, arising from an article published in Misterios magazine, published in Huelva (http://www.fernandogarcia.or), the possibility of conducting a study on the presence of humanoids in Andalucía came about, and I wondered what type of phenomena should be covered this hypothetical study.

As I write these lines, I keep wondering about it, although I do believe I have a better idea now than I did then. The matter can be approached from two completely different perspectives: the study of objects with the presence of humanoids, or cases in which only entities are detected, without any objects nearby.

There is no doubt whatsoever as to the first of these possibilities: these would be cases that clearly fall into the field of ufology, but if we chose the second path, we may find ourselves studying phenomena related to parapsychology, religion, Marian apparitions and even folklore, and ufology must be set aside, in many cases. BAFFLED hillwalkers fear ALIENS have landed — after mysterious slime started appearing in the countryside.

They have discovered a strange jelly... and some experts believe it’s landed from space.

The first report of an unidentified fluid object was in the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh, triggering a flood of similar sightings.

Now National Geographic Channel documentary Wild X Files attempts to solve the mystery after they had the weird samples analysed by scientists.

Paranormal investigator Steve Mera is convinced he was dealing with aliens after a sample he collected DISAPPEARED.

He said: “I was dumbfounded. I had no idea what it was.

“I thought ‘let’s get some samples.’ The next morning, I saw the sample jar and I did a double take as there was nothing in it. It was there the night before, now it was empty.” Steve was sure he was dealing with star jelly left over from a meteor shower. He said: “It comes from space.”

Euan McIlwraith, presenter of BBC show Out Of Doors, added: “A call came into the studio from somebody who had been hillwalking and found this substance. We knew we were on to something strange.

“There are lot of people out there who believe it comes from the stars.”

Deer hunter Andy Malcolm thought the goo was stag sperm — but this was ruled out when perplexed fungal ecologist Dr Andy Turner found the samples contained NO animal DNA.

He said: “We could see almost no cellular structure within it so it was difficult to determine what it was.”

Algal researcher Dr Hans Sluiman found it “unlikely” that it was from a plant while Prof Malcolm Kennedy, from Glasgow University, believes the jelly is from frogs used for spawn.

He explained: “When it’s made it has DNA excluded from it. When frogs come under attack, fear causes them to expel the jelly normally used to protect eggs.”

The National Geographic Channel has declared the case closed but Euan said: “There’s still that bit at the back of my head that isn’t exactly convinced.” - thescottishsun

“I was twenty years old, taking a camping trip with my boss and his friends, and I believe it was near the Maryland-Virginia line in the Chesapeake area. We were tubing [inner-tube] in the river, some time in the morning or early afternoon.

“My boss and I suddenly saw, parallel with the water, quite a distance away, a flying object . . . we knew it was quite far away, but it was as big as a regular bird would appear up close. It was gliding, with an occasional slow, smooth flap. . . . It flew directly over us, about twenty yards above us, and as I turned my inner tube along its path, it perched on a tree about fifty yards past us.

“I know what it was. It wasn’t a heron; it wasn’t a vulture; it wasn’t an albatross. I had spent countless hours as a child studying dinosaurs and playing with dinosaur models. I know what I saw.”
