GHT - Using “state-of-the-art” equipment such as split screen monitors, infrared cameras and high-tech audio recorders, the The Mid-Michigan Paranormal Investigators team works to capture the sights and sounds of apparitions at locations reported to be haunted.
According to Matt Moyer, lead investigator, if they can’t record it, it didn’t happen.
“We probably have the most equipment of any investigators in the state,” said Moyer. “We don’t talk to each other during an investigation. If we hear or see something we write it down and discuss it after as a group. That’s to avoid the power of suggestion or mass hysteria. Sometimes we hear or see the same things but if we don’t capture it on the equipment, we don’t consider it proven.”
The most recent haunting they’ve investigated is at the old historic Otsego Lake Inn, 7441 1st Court St., one block off Old 27 South. The inn was once the Otsego County Courthouse when the Village of Otsego Lake was the county seat. Research suggests the building also has been a community center, dance hall, restaurant, tavern, funeral home and brothel at different periods.
Rumors have circulated among neighbors for years about the ghosts at the old inn. One of the most prevalent is that an influenza epidemic swept the county when it was a brothel and some of the girls died. The speculation is that it is those young women who haunt the inn.
“I have a very good researcher and he could find no record of the epidemic,” said Moyer. “He did locate information that the Inn had been a brothel twice, during World War I and again during World War II.”
Moyer, and his wife, Melanie, co-founder and also a lead investigator for the team, have been in the paranormal business for seven years. Their interest in haunting was motivated by frightening phenomena they experienced in a home they’d bought downstate nine years ago.
“The lights and stereo kept coming on and going off by themselves,” Moyer said. “The motors on appliances kept exploding. I’m an electrician and I had new transformers installed outside and the entire house rewired because I thought it was an electrical problem. It still kept happening. A washer motor spun out and it was empty; we weren’t running it. Then the children started to be affected. Their sliding windows would shake and start to open and close. They saw shadows outside their windows that scared them. We loved that house, but we had to give it up.”
The team that investigated the Otsego Lake Inn were composed of Moyer, his wife; Steve Allen of Vanderbilt, investigator and cameraman; Lynn Hays, an investigator from Holly; and psychic Tammey Schuster of Traverse City. Herald Times photographer, Bill Serveny, was invited along to document the investigation.
“A few things happened in the upstairs that we can’t explain,” Moyer reported. “We heard the voices of two different women. One of them chuckled, like she was laughing at us, but in a calm, friendly way. Another said ‘Yeah,’ when I asked a question. But we didn’t capture it on our equipment so, as far as we’re concerned, it hasn’t been proven. I’d like to go back and try again to see if we can capture it.”
The voices were confirmed by one of the other investigators. Allen, a stained-glass artist and postal worker, was upstairs with Moyer at the time.
“We were on the second floor, which has multiple rooms,” Allen said. “Matt did a ‘call and response,’ where you call out a question to see if you get a response. Everybody in the hall heard the voices. We all said, ‘Did you hear that?’”
One mysterious occurrence which, no doubt, has a logical technical explanation, is a photograph taken by the Herald Times photographer that day. Serveny took three photos of Moyer sitting in the dark, recording something on his laptop. Two of the photos turned out fine, but one looked like a double exposure of Moyer with a strange swirl of light connecting the two images.
A professional photographer for 40 years, Serveny is adamant he did not take a double exposure, which can’t be done accidentally on a digital camera, but requires the changing of settings. Although he can’t explain what did happen, he insisted it wasn’t anything he’d done on purpose.
The Otsego Lake Inn is owned by Tracy and Charles Booth. They live downstate but spend extensive time at the inn with their extended family.
Tracy and her husband were outside the inn during the investigation. She found the idea of having the paranormal team there to be “fun,” but thinks many of the old rumors about the inn are exaggerated.
“Do I think the house is haunted?” Tracy asked, rhetorically. “No. But I certainly have had spiritual experiences there with loved ones who’ve passed; my mother, my father, my grandparents — the sort of things that happen to a lot of people — you’re thinking or praying about someone who is gone and suddenly a bulb burns out or something and you think it might be a sign from them.
“The psychic told me that she picked up a lot of happy feelings as she went through the inn,” Tracy continued. “My family has been connected to Otsego Lake for seven generations. My great-grandmother played piano everyday until she died, back when the inn was a community center. We’ve owned it for 21 years, and we’ve been very, very happy there.”
Statement with video: June 11, 2010 — I wonder who ordered this?? The Joint Terrorism Task Force Division of the FBI Visits an Austin Peace Activist to Question About Pre-Crimes On April 21, 2010. I quote- Two agents of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) came to my house to talk to me, a part time peace volunteer. After verifying that they really were with the FBI, I asked them to wait. I shut my door, took a deep breath, and grabbed my video camera. I want to thank Jeffry Zavala for: * Helping me remain anonymous in this video * For creating something to help you if the FBI ever knocks on your door to question you about pre-crimes.
For more information about what to do if you FBI knocks on your door go to What to Do if the FBI Comes to Your Door NOTE: I'm not going to say if I agree with this woman's political beliefs or not...that's not the point. The fact that the Feds are questioning a citizen for peacefully protesting is ridiculous and basically BS. Not a very good example of freedom and democracy for those other countries who we feel need to follow our same Constitutional doctrine, IMO...Lon
Source: La Republica Date: 06.10.10 Uruguay: An “Imp” Over Nueva Palmira
COLONIA – It is the talk of the town in Nueva Palmira. Several local residents claim having seen an imp or an alien – opinions vary – over an electric power line. After repeated complaints, police officers and agents of the local Prefecture visited the site. [Witnesses] claim it measured 25 centimeters. It arrived flying and and would move around, bothered by flashlight beams
A colorful imp appeared in Nueva Palmira this weekend, suspended over a high voltage line leading to the port. The phenomenon was reported by several locals, who saw the phenomenon moving some four feet over the surface of the wire. Police and Prefecture personnel visited the area. The [figure] shrank until it vanished around four in the morning.
The phenomenon has caused a sensation in Nueva Palmira, after word spread that an alleged “imp” or extraterrestrial being had arrived, flying, to the corner of Calle Ultramar in the general direction of the port zone.
This is how journalist Roberto Tatto told the story on Tuesday on Nueva Palmira’s Cono Sur radio station, and how it was repeated to LA REPUBLICA, according to eyewitness accounts. “The event occurred last Saturday night at the traffic distributor that leads to the port,” he explained. “A shop owner came outside and saw a light. He was startled to see it at a given altitude. It remained suspended from one of the wires. He summoned his wife and some of his shop’s patrons to come out for a look. They approached and saw from below that the figure changed colors. It had the shape of a doll. They pointed a flashlight at it, and it started to move around, as if bothered by the light. It was a 25 centimeter long “doll” moving over the cable. Later on, the Police arrived with high powered beams and it began moving more, as if becoming nervous. It moved its head and shuddered.”
According to this story, the phenomenon was witnessed by several locals, who according to the fellow journalist “ were afraid to come any closer, because (the being) seemed be annoyed by the beams” as it stood over the high-voltage wires.
Hours went by and efforts were made to photograph with a cellphone, “but we later saw that it didn’t come out right,” they explained. The phenomenon lasted until around 4:00 a.m., when the figure contracted slowly until it vanished. A pearl-colored “goo” was left behind as the only tangible evidence, the local journalist told La Republica. He claims that the eyewitness accounts hint at something with characteristics that were “less than mundane.”
Discussion over whether it was an “imp” or an extraterrestrial manifestation continues to dominate the daily agenda among the residents of Nueva Palmira.
NOTE: not the first time I have seen or heard an alien referred to as an 'imp'. I hope someone can grab an image of this being...Lon
This interesting case again shows the depletion of water tanks by unknown forces – a constant in Argentinean UFO cases since the cattle mutilation wave of 2002 and the research into the mysterious draining of water from swimming pools and ponds conducted by Quique Mario since the early 2000s in Santa Rosa, Argentina...Scott Corrales, Inexplicata

Argentina: Alleged UFO in Entre Rios By Norberto Puntonet/ La capital
A farmer from Rosario who visited a farm in the Province of Entre Rios claimed having seen a UFO while in the company of both his son and the owner of the “El Rancho” rural facility. The curious event took place last Saturday some 23 kilometers from the town of Federal and some 400 km from Rosario.
This is not the first time the witness has seen a UFO, although he acknowledges that this time he was “very scared.” The man, who asked to be kept anonymous, has a potato stand at the Mercado de Concentración in Fisherton and when he has time, he visits a friend who owns a field in Entre Rios. Luis, a native of General Lagos, told La Capital: “I travel frequently to Entre Rios because of my job and I made great friends. This is the fourth time that I’ve seen strange lights in the skies over Entre Rios, but never so close by. To clear my head a little, I went to “El Rancho” this weekend with my son Guillermo. What we both saw, along with the field’s owner, left us stunned,” he admits.
Luis added that as they took some things out of their truck, the saw a light approaching in the distance. “It was nine o’clock at night and we were taking some things out of truck to go into town for fuel. We saw a light approaching us and we told the owner of the property, whose name is Guillermo Jorjato, if he was waiting for someone. He said no. The light was coming through the middle of the field and not along the road. We stood there watching, to see what it was.”
“Some 300 meters away from us was a windmill and an “Australian” water tank with a capacity of 125,000 liters. When the light reached the tank, it rose and remained suspended overhead. We could clearly see that it was a vessel shaped like an inverted platter. It was twice the size of the tank. I figure some 25 or 30 meters. It had red, green and gray lights that rotated but made no sound. My son wanted to run into the house for a shotgun to fire at the vessel, but I stopped him. What good was such a weapon against that display of technology?”
At that time, the property owner told Luis that he had never seen lights nor anything similar, but that he had on several occasions found the tank empty overnight, without finding traces of tire tracks or any water spilled in the vicinity. “After a brief while suspended over the tank, the device went straight up at an impressive rate of speed. We only heard a slight sound, but a sound of friction, not of a motor, like a prolonged “Z” sound. When it reached a certain altitude that I cannot imagine, two small explosions were heard, like rockets. I suppose this happens when the sound barrier is broken,” he reflects.
“The next day we went to see the tank. It was full of water. We don’t know why they didn’t take the water this time. They must’ve read my son’s mind and felt afraid!” Luis said ironically, although he admits to having “trembled like a leaf” at the moment.

wsaw - As we've showed you all week, Plover, WI has a rich history spanning decades. And of course that history wouldn't be complete without a good ghost story!
Notorious gangsters like Al Capone and John Dillinger considered the Club Forest Bar a favorite stop in the 1920's and 30's, and it's right in Plover. The bar is filled with stories and legends, but none of them have managed to live on quite like the story of Melvin.
Melvin was an original employee of the bar, and employees today are convinced his ghost is still there. The Club Forest Bar was used for a time by its original owners as a 'house of ill repute'. "Helen and Mac [McCabe] brought a man with them named Melvin, and they called him a coachman", said Pam Booth, who owns the bar today. "His job was to go to the train station pick up the girls bring them back and watch over them."
Legend has it melvin served as a faithful guardian to the Club Forest girls. So much so, it would cost him his life. "He fell in love with one of the girls and one night she had a customer who didnt treat her very well, and Melvin confronted him", Booth said. "The confrontation turned into an argument and then a fight and eventually his death."
When Booth's family bought the bar from the original owner decades ago, they were warned Melvin's ghost was still there. And over the years, employees say they've seen plenty of evidence. "Many times the machines would turn on and off, the jukebox would turn on and off, certain things would fall off of tables", said Karen Krings who has worked at the bar for 16 years. She and other employee say they've seen bar stools fly off of tables and into walls, seen things move, and heard footsteps right behind them when alone in the bar. The stories go on and on, and employees say melvin makes himself known on a regular basis.
The bar's owners wanted more answers, so they got in touch with the River Cities Paranormal Society. "We searched for evidence of his existence, for proof that he still lingers about", said Jonathan Wood, who founded the RCPS. He and some other researchers spent a night at the Club Forest, researching and recording their every move.
It wasn't until they reviewed their footage that they started to notice strange things, like what appears to be a face appearing in the ceiling tiles for one second, before vanishing. They also discovered a couple of E.V.P.s, which stands for electronic voice phenomenon. "We also had that chunk of audio that happened down in the basement that we couldnt for the life of us explain", Wood said. "And there was a voice of a person that was not in the building, that we didnt know, that didnt match any of the voice templates for any of the members that were investigating."
That was enough to peak the interest of the RCPS, who says they're planning to investigate the bar again. "We exhaustively try to find out a logical answer to whats causing the phenomena, and some of that we couldnt figure out, so thats why we feel this place would warrant another investigation", Wood said.
In the meanwhile, employees say it doesn't bother them. In fact, they believe Melvin is still carrying out his original job - looking out for the Club Forest girls. "Melvin's here and hes still taking care of the girls, we've never employed more than two men at a time, its basically women who have worked here for 20 years", said Booth.
"If you believe, you believe, if you don't, you don't", said Krings. "I believe."
'The Club Forest Bar began in 1927 as a small railroad stop tavern. It was located at the railroad station on the main railway from Chicago to the Northwoods. During these early years it was known as a house of "ill-repute" and as a stopping place for famous and notorious people, like Al Capone.
A piece of this history is still with us today. Stop in and learn about "Melvin" our resident ghost from those early days.'....clubforestbar.com
AP - Scientists camping out in the Australian Outback this weekend will be eagerly scanning the night sky for the long-delayed return of the first spacecraft to complete a round-trip journey to an asteroid.
The Hayabusa capsule has traveled 1.24 billion miles (2 billion kilometers) in seven years and is expected to land in the desert of South Australia state Sunday night.
Launched by Japan in 2003, Hayabusa is expected to be carrying space material collected during its two brief landings on the asteroid, which will offer insights into the creation and makeup of the solar system.
"There's absolutely nothing like going to the source," said Trevor Ireland, associate director for Earth Chemistry at Australian National University and the only Australian on the Hayabusa team. "Hayabusa has sampled an asteroid in situ and soon we will have in hand an actual asteroid. Any sample coming back from (the asteroid) will be a major scientific prize for us."
He said scientists will learn more from studying the asteroid sample than from meteorites that are burned during their fall on Earth and become contaminated by materials here.
Hayabusa, which means 'falcon,' will re-enter Earth's atmosphere late Sunday night above the Woomera Prohibited Area, a military zone 300 miles (485 kilometers) north of the South Australian state capital of Adelaide.
The main body of the vessel will burn up on re-entry — expected to create a spectacular burst in the midnight sky — but a small container carrying the samples retrieved from the asteroid should parachute to the desert floor. The container will be taken to Japan for study.
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency built and launched the asteroid explorer, which landed on its target in late 2005. Hayubasa took photo images from all angles of the 1,640-foot (500-meter) -long asteroid called Itokawa before landing. It was designed to shoot a bullet into the surface of the asteroid that would crush it and propel any material through a long tube into the sample collection container.
There is no certainty that the bullet actually fired, scientists say, but they believe that the impact of the tube's landing would have forced some material upward and into the collection chamber.
"Just the process of landing would have coated the inside with dust," said Michael Zolensky, one of two NASA scientists involved in the project. "It has the capacity to hold one-tenth of a kilogram (3.53 ounces), but we really only need less than a gram (0.04 ounce) of material. One microscopic grain can be sliced into more than 100 pieces and farmed around the world for testing and research."
The scientists hope to study how and when the asteroid was formed, its physical properties, what other bodies it may have been in contact with and how the solar wind and radiation have affected it.
The Japanese space agency said the aim of the $200 million project was to understand the origin and evolution of the solar system.
If Hayabusa is indeed carrying samples from the asteroid, it would be only the fourth sample return of space material in history — including the moon matter collected by the Apollo missions, comet matter by Stardust and solar matter in the Genesis mission.
Preliminary analysis of the samples will be carried out by the team in Japan, but after one year scientists around the world can apply for access to bits of the asteroid material for research.
For now, though, the Hayabusa scientists admitted to some sleepless nights as the arrival hour finally nears. Zolensky said the years out of sight have not erased Hayabusa from his mind.
"I have a model of it hanging in my office," he said. "We have worked 20 years on this mission. For something to go all the way out to an asteroid and come back is extremely exciting."
delmarvanow - Raymond Gunter of Townsend is not the first person to suspect he has seen a cougar or other large cat prowling on the Eastern Shore, but he may be the latest.
"I have never seen anything like it and I have been in construction work for 38 years," Gunter said.
He's built highways all over the southeast and has seen alligators, rattlesnakes, bears and all sorts of wildlife.
"And I never heard a sound like this," he said.
Gunter's report is one of several recent large-cat sightings, many of which describe a cougar-like animal.
The animal he saw on May 28 at fairly close range fits the same description -- a rusty-tan colored, three-foot-long cat with a long tail. It was quick-footed and traveling close to the ground.
Similar sightings were reported in February a few miles north in Dalbys.
Since that incident, more sightings in Accomack and Northampton counties were reported.
Gunter was doing some tree work at a Cheapside home when he heard a loud sound coming from high up in a 50-foot-tall tree.
"It was a real scream like," Gunter said. "Like a growl that went into a scream. He did it twice, like he was warning me."
Then he heard rustling and scratching sounds as the animal made its way down the opposite side of the tree. Gunter didn't get a good look until it was on the ground.
"It was crouched, moving low to the ground, creeping like, at a pretty good rate, then crossed over the road and went into the woods," he said.
In February, Ernie and Kathleen Coulter reported hearing a loud screaming sound over a couple days in December.
"I thought it might have been a bobcat because it was loud," Kathleen Coulter said. "It was a deep scream. It was scary. I have never heard anything like that before."
The couple saw a very similar animal to Gunter's at least twice after hearing the sounds.
It is unlikely, though, to make it to this area, said Sue Rice, manager of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife's Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge at the time of the February sightings.
"The chances of there being a mountain lion that is a wild animal on the Eastern Shore of Virginia is extremely low," she said. "Even in the whole state of Virginia, I don't believe there are enough sightings."
A wild cat would have to come from the woodsy north. "The chances are pretty slim for them to get here without being seen or getting hit by a car if they are wild animals," Rice said, suggesting instead a pet released locally.
Cougars are solitary and nocturnal for the most part and feed on white-tail deer. Females have ranges of several square miles, but the male's home-range is much larger, which could account for reports of sightings in Melfa and Wachapreague and other parts of Accomack.
I received 2 emails this evening from members of the 'Society Of The Unknown' in reference to their investigation. I'm not going to start pointing fingers....only that I'll let you make up your own minds. Again, here's the link to the the post Missouri Ghost Hunters Encounter Possible Non-Spiritual Entity...Lon
I need to inform your organization that the UFO photo that was submitted by Society Of The Unknown is in all true reality a flower basket! Yes that's right...a flower basket!! A co worker told me his wife said it looked like a flower basket. We talked about the possibility and I went back and reviewed my photos. Much to my surprise I found 2 photos that have a flower basket turned on its side and it is identical to the UFO photo that I took. One photo is taken a few days later during the day and the other photo is a night shot taken the same night as the UFO photo. I will submit all three photos together to be examined and everyone will see it is a flower basket and not a UFO. Additionally one of my team members submitted to your organization some photos that had a red hue around them. She ASSUMED that it was an alien or ghost that was mimicking us or shadowing us. She is completely incorrect! The photos with the red hue around us was a result of me experimenting with an infrared attachment on the camera and using the flash and night scene mode all at the same time. I asked her to not show these photos until it was determined how they came about. I must apologize to your organization and your readers for any poor judgment on my organizations part and I mean it when I say there was no intent to deceive anyone. Please except my sincerest apologies. I guess this can be taken as lesson well learned. I was thoroughly convinced I had captured a photo of a UFO. Again make sure you and your readers view the photos.

*********** (2ND EMAIL)
Please disregard the Missouri ghost hunters story.
Sometimes we want something to be real so bad that in our minds we will believe everything we read, see, or hear. Especially if it is about the paranormal. I guess the mystery is solved. I am glad we caught the cause before this thing got any more in the media. I guess this is why I wanted the photos to remain and sent only to mufon at first. So we could rule any of this out. Please forgive us for jumping the gun.
I got this in email from Lorin tonight………
Some how the camera superimposed this flower basket in the trees! I guess this means the camera is screwed royally?!?!?!?!? Break the news to everyone as fast as you can. Send this photo to MUFON and tell them to publish it so no one will think we tried a hoax. I have to tell you I have debunked the UFO theory. A coworker said it looked like a basket of flowers superimposed in the tree. I went through my photos and found a basket of flowers laying on it's side in the same corner of the cemetery where the photo was taken. It looks identical to the basket of flowers. We didn't mean to cause a stir. I actually though it was a UFO! I guess there is something wrong with the camera I used. Enclosed you will find a copy of the basket during the day and a copy during the night. I will be standing next to the basket. Disregard the red hue around me as I was experimenting with an infrared light when that photo was taken.
NOTE: the only thing I'm going to say is that investigators need to look carefully at their 'evidence' before making it public. I am going to assume that this is simply a case of 'jumping the gun'....let's just hope that, for their sake, Society of the Unknown hasn't 'jumped the shark'. I do appreciate the fact that they did contact us ASAP and, for that, I thank them...Lon
On August 12, 1983, 77-year-old Alfred Burtoo was enjoying some fishing in the Basingstoke Canal in Aldershot, Hampshire, United Kingdom. He was a keen and experienced fisherman, and since the weather report predicted a warm, fine night, he set off from his home in North Town, Aldershot, at 12:15 a.m., accompanied by his dog Tiny. On reaching Government Road he headed toward his fishing site, about 120 yards north of the Gasworks Bridge.
Because of its many military establishments Aldershot is known as "The Home of the British Army," and Alfred Burtoo himself had an Army background, having served in the Queen's Royal Regiment in 1924 and the Hampshire Regiment during World War II. Well known as a historian, he had in his time worked as a farmer and gardener, and while living in the Canadian outback hunted bear and fought wolves. Prior to his experience he had read no books or magazines on the subject of UFOs, which held no interest for him, yet much of what he claimed has been corroborated by other witnesses.
After getting comfortable, his concentration on the water was interrupted by a bright light descending from the sky. Whatever this was, it landed not too far away from Burtoo. There was a Mod base in the vicinity, and he thought maybe he had seen a helicopter land. Burtoo had just poured himself a cup of tea, when his dog Tiny became very nervous. Two beings suddenly appeared out of the darkness. "They were about four foot high, dressed in pale green coveralls from head to foot," Burtoo told reporters. "and they had helmets of the same color with a visor that was blacked out." The two beings beckoned for him to follow them. He obliged. Burtoo would later say that he was afraid of nothing, and regarding his encounter, which would have terrified most people, said: "What did I have to fear? I'm seventy-eight now and haven't got much to lose."
Burtoo followed the two strange beings until they arrived at a flying saucer that had set on the ground. He ascended the stairs leading up to the craft until he could go no further. The ceiling was too short and he had to bend over to continue. He was now inside of a black, metallic chamber. The room had a foul smell, like decaying meat.
"I did not see any signs of nuts or bolts, nor did I see any seams where the object had been put together," he recalled. "What did interest me most of all was a shaft that rose up from the floor to the ceiling. The shaft was about four feet in circumference, and on the right-hand side stood two forms similar to those that walked along the towpath with me."
The curious old fisherman was then instructed to stand underneath an orange light. This light seemed to scan his body for several minutes. "What is your age?" asked one of the beings, in a voice which sounded like "a mixture of Chinese and Russian". When he told them his age, he was told that he could go. He was told he was too old and sick for their purposes. Burtoo then walked out of the ship, down the stairs and back to this fishing spot.
"The first thing I did was to pick up my cold cup of tea and drink it," he recalled. "...then I heard this whining noise, just as if an electric generator was starting up, and this thing lifted up then took off at a very high speed. I got into what I had come out for...the fishing!" He would later tell newsmen that it was one of the greatest experiences of his life.
There was no physical evidence of the crafts landing, and no marks of any kind on Burtoo. He did experience some loss of appetite and weight loss as well as some difficulty sleeping, but that passed after a short time. Burtoo was the only witness, and we may have to take his word, as he was not given to making up stories, and had no reason to perpetuate a hoax. He gained nothing from his experience except being in the local papers. Despite Mr Burtoo having passed away on August 31st, 1986, with almost religious regularity the local news papers write an abbreviated story about Mr.Burtoo’s encounter each year to coincide with the anniversary of this now famous encounter, and always they trivialize the case, running him down and generally making this witness a laughing stock.
His wife, Majorie, was asked if he had every confessed to her that the encounter was a hoax. She vehemently denied that Burtoo lied..."what Alf told you was the absolute truth. My friend who was with me when Alf came home can verify what he said. He looked absolutely shaken and he told both of us about his experience that he had with the UFO...." NOTE: I've always been a bit wary of this case, though, a few people I have talked to who were knowledgeable of this encounter find it significant that Burtoo had no prior interest in UFOs and technology. Still, this story does leave a lot of questions that will never be answered...Lon
openminds - Was Rome visited by Unidentified Flying Objects? Definitely, and once again the sightings in the skies over Vatican City stirred newspaper headlines and numerous TV news reports in Italy. According to recent reports, it seems that a UFO flap is taking place in Rome and that strange objects were also recorded on camera several times. The most important one is the footage of an odd luminous formation taken by three security guards stationed in front of the residence of the U.S. ambassador to the Vatican (Holy See). These were qualified witnesses since they are artillerymen, trained experts in air surveillance.
It was at 4 am in the night of June 7th when three men belonging to the 17° antiaircraft Regiment at the “Santa Barbara” station in Sabaudia (Latina province), spotted three spherical bright objects hovering in the sky above St. Peter’s dome in the Vatican, right in the center of Rome. They promptly filmed the unexpected nocturnal air show with a cell phone.
From their point of observation in the Roman Monteverde area (overlooked by the Gianicolo hill), they immediately stopped a police patrol. Well trained in spotting aircraft, the artillerymen excluded the possibility of a commercial plane, a jet fighter or a balloon. They described the object’s swift maneuvers, mentioning a “darting move toward the sky,” a “delta formation,” and “luminous dots suspended at about three hundred feet above the ground.” They added that there is “no way a conventional airplane can do such things.” The UFO disappeared and reappeared for brief moments, with sudden changes of altitude before it darted westbound at a 40 degree angle. The police patrol took the report very seriously and the central police station in Rome was immediately alerted. The footage, more than a minute in length, was acquired by the Italian police, pending further investigations.
Thanks to the technical background of the witnesses, many TV networks took the news seriously. “Studio Aperto” (Mediaset, Italia Uno newscast) anchorwoman Elena Guarnieri introduced the segment saying: “We will show you now an exclusive video footage of a UFO sighting in Rome, this video was filmed by three soldiers, take a look.” Staff journalist Paolo Capresi then describes the images: “They are three flying objects and they are floating in the air, they were filmed last night in the sky above Rome. The images were taken with a cell phone by three soldiers who were in service in front of the U.S. ambassador’s residence in the Vatican City (Holy See), Monteverde district, two steps from St. Peter’s Square, and were immediately handed over to the Carabinieri [police]. As you can see there are no objects around to use as reference points that can give us the exact distance and size of the UFOs. It seems that they are spherical in shape and they hover above the Vatican. They appear and disappear often changing altitude.”
The journalist concluded, almost ironically: “The soldiers who have filmed these objects are based in the antiaircraft division and are specialized in recognizing the flight path of aircraft. Since 1978 it’s the Air Force that is in charge of registering sightings (over Italy)”. Colonel Marco Picciau of the Italian Air Force specifies that “statistics of sightings reported before 2001 were 300, after 2001 we have a more precise statistic on 50, 55, sightings [every year]”.
The June 7th sighting was preceded approximately eight hours before by another relevant sighting. As reported in the Roman newspaper “Il Messaggero”, “Just last Sunday [June 6], at 8 pm, many motorists traveling along the Via Aurelia and the A12 highway in the section between Civitavecchia and Santa Marinella, said they saw a very bright circular object flying across the sky.”

The Death of Pope John Paul II and Vatican UFO Sightings
Paranormal and other unexplained activity has been reported in and above Vatican City for many years. But the increased reports of UFO / OVNI phenomena immediately following the death of Pope John Paul II and since has many people in the field of extraterrestrial research wondering if there is some sort of connection. As well, there have been several documented accounts of increased anomalous activity in different locations throughout Vatican City since the death of Pope John Paul II.
The vidcaps above were taken above St. Peter's Square while Pope John Paul II lie in state.

Received the following photo and message from my good friend Piotr Cielebiaś, NPN - www.npn.ehost.pl: Concerning the photograph - On the left side of the Basilic's Cuppola there is a bright object (left upper corner), orange in color. What do you think about it.
I have just received it. It was taken in June 24, 2006 in Rome by a Polish tourist and submitted recently.
Robert Morningstar, associate editor of UFODigest.com enlarged and enhancement the photograph sent by Piotr. Robert states that "the attached enlargements indicate to me a solid object above Rome."
"The color of the object is consistant with UFO colors as the UFO craft transition in energy from red to amber as they undergo power shifts. Rome, unlike New York and other brightly illuminated cities, has little light that could be reflected so brightly from such an apparently high flying object. The equalized enlargement (the lower one) shows the body of the craft as a black silhouette", he added.

allafrica - Pupils at Lunyike Basic School in Chipata have not been learning for two weeks because teachers have allegedly fled fearing witchcraft.
Eight teachers have so far been reported to have requested for immediate transfers following reports of witchcraft.
Lunyike Parent Teachers Association (PTA) vice chairperson, Atron Zulu confirmed that all the teachers at the school had left.
And the Ministry of Education said it was doing everything possible to normalise the situation at the school situated in Paramount Chief Mpezeni's area.
Chipata District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Kezias Lungu said his office had sent a new head teacher and deputy to the school.
He explained that his office was also trying to convince some teachers to move to the school.
Mr Lungu explained that it had not been easy to transfer teachers to the school because of the alleged reports of witchcraft in the area.
In another development, the PTA at Cronje Basic School in Chipata District has locked up the office of the deputy headteacher.
Cronje Basic School PTA chairperson, Maiko Mawelela, confirmed the development yesterday the PTA closed the office for the deputy headteacher on Wednesday last week because they wanted her to explain how finances paid by pupils for the electrification exercise was spent while the head teacher was on leave.
The PTA accused the deputy headteacher of refusing to cooperate with other members of staff adding that she has no regard for the PTA committee.
A check on Tuesday by a Times reporter found the office of the deputy headteacher at the Reformed Church in Zambia run school completely locked.
And school headteacher, Steve Mwale, who also acknowledged the closure of the deputy headteachers' office, said he was not aware of the decision made by the PTA to close the office.
And when contacted for a comment, RCZ, education board secretary, Chuluchaminga Nkhata, said he was not aware of the incident.
lusakatimes - Chieftainess Kalaba of Mansa district in Luapula Province has fled her palace for fear of being bewitched by her subjects. And several teachers at Lupende basic school in the same chiefdom have also threatened to flee the school due to what they called incessant nightmares caused by wizards.
This came to light on Sunday when Luapula Province minister Dr Boniface Kawimbe and Mansa District Commissioner Major Chibwe Nsakasha visited the rural school.
Major Nsakasha confirmed to ZANIS that it is true chieftainess Kalaba had fled the palace due to concerns of witchcraft. The DC said the traditional ruler is living in Senama compound and she intends to move to Mano near Chipili in Mwense district.
Villagers interviewed said chieftainess Kalaba had decided not to return to her palace after fleeing because every time she attempted to do so, she fell seriously ill.
Meanwhile, teachers at Lupende Basic were found to have packed their household goods in readiness to leave the school.
Parents Teachers Association Chairperson Royd Kasapo said teachers feared for their lives due to alleged witchcraft in which both unmarried and married female teachers were sexually abused while in their sleep.
Mr Kasapo said male teachers whose wives were allegedly being used by wizards equally claimed to have been bewitched, a condition that has made them incapable of consummating their marriage responsibilities.
He disclosed that the PTA, headmen and the chieftainess had decided to bring a witch finder on March 1 this year who named five old men, including a retired headmaster at the school to be in possession of charms that enabled them to abuse women in their sleep.
The PTA chairperson said the retired headmaster, a named old man and other wizards were exorcised of their charms and have since bolted from Lupende.
The deputy head teacher Afya Mwaba narrated to Dr Kawimbe how on several occasions she experienced nightmares where she was being abused.
Ms Mwaba said the relatives of the wizards have declared to continue tormenting the teachers publicly telling them that what they were experiencing in the night will continue because the charms they have were a family inheritance.
Luapula Province Minister appealed to the headmen and parents in the community to help resolve the problems teachers are facing.
Dr Kawimbe said Government has very few teachers and if the seven teachers at Lupende abandoned the school, it will be closed and the community will continue to remain backwards.

Weekly Segment Host: Lon Strickler - Strickly Paranormal: For Those Seeking the Truth
bbc - To mark the centennial of marine explorer Jacques Cousteau's birth, the society established in his name will relaunch his ship, the Calypso.
The vessel was badly damaged in 1996, when a barge accidentally rammed into it in the port of Singapore.
It is now being repaired and the Cousteau Society says it will become a "touring educational exhibition".
The ship, originally a British minesweeper, was adapted into a "mobile oceanography laboratory" in 1950.
It was bought by Irish millionaire and former MP Thomas Loel Guinness, a descendent of the founder of the Guinness brewery, who outfitted it to Captain Cousteau's specifications and leased it to him for a symbolic one franc per year.
The former naval officer turned explorer caught some of the first glimpses of deep sea life from aboard the ship.
This was aided by Calypso's "false nose" that Captain Cousteau and his team used as an underwater observation chamber.
He also brought the life of the oceans to public attention with his TV series, films and several books.
In 1943, Captain Cousteau and the French engineer Emile Gagnan developed the aqualung, the breathing apparatus that first supplied oxygen to divers, allowing them to stay underwater for several hours.
Captain Cousteau died in 1997. His eponymous society plans to mark the centennial of his birth with a year-long celebration.
This will include a new filming expedition in the Mediterranean Sea - to document the changes since Captain Cousteau made one of his first films there in the 1940s.
His youngest son, Pierre-Yves Cousteau said: "If he were alive today, my father would be gratified by the creation of marine protected areas in many countries and by the growing community of scientists working to advance understanding and conservation of ocean biodiversity.
"However, I know he would also be distressed by the ongoing pillage of oceans by industrialised fisheries [and] by the catastrophes that stem from exploiting off-shore oil resources." ______________________
'Indiana Jones 5' Goes to the Bermuda Triangle....Will He Kick ET's Ass?
stuff - Harrison Ford's final outing as Indiana Jones will be "emotional and exciting" as the franchise heads back to its roots after a badly received fourth installment.
Ford is well-known for his portrayal of the archaeologist and adventurer, and has agreed to reprise the role one last time.
Indiana Jones 5 will begin shooting next year, and much of the plot line will be centered around the Bermuda Triangle, an area over the North Atlantic Ocean where a number of aircraft are said to have disappeared.
"George (Lucas) and Steven (Spielberg) have been working on a script and it's almost there," a source explained.
"Harrison is on stand-by for filming next year. This looks like being an emotional and exciting conclusion to the franchise, with Indy facing his biggest challenge yet."
The last film in the franchise, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was released in 2008 and performed well at the box office, but was savaged by critics.
Shia LaBeouf played Indiana's son Mutt Williams, and he will also appear in the new instalment.
Movie bosses have assured fans the film will stay true to the series' roots, and won't contain lots of state-of-the-art special effects.
"Shia LaBeouf has a central role again as Indy's son but this will be a blockbuster made in the old fashioned way rather than the CGI efforts of the last movie," the source added.

MUFON witness statement - June 7, 2010 - Satan's Butte, Arizona: I am white with a Navajo wife living on the Navajo Reservation. For many years I have heard many stories about Satan's Butte - all stories revolve around UFO's and Snakes. While I believe in the likelihood of UFO's - I never really believed in something this close to our home.
A week ago I was outside at 9:46pm and looked toward Satan's Butte and saw a spaceship hovering above the butte. (The butte is about three miles away.)I ran into the house and grabbed my sister-in-laws camera and my binoculars. I could not get a clear picture but watched the UFO cylindrical sphere with red blinking lights descend into the butte.
Two days later the even repeated - I yelled to my unbelieving wife but by the time she got outside it had already descended.
Last Friday we went to Flagstaff and I bought a "good" camera. Last night at 10:46pm we both witnessed the UFO - I took pictures and now have a witness and pictures! My wife admits she thought I was seeing things but I took pictures and she watched through the binoculars.
The Navajo are a reticent people but talk amongst themselves - they have seen this many times over the years.
NOTE: Satan Butte is a mountain summit in Navajo County in the state of Arizona. I received an email a while back from a resident of this Navajo reservation who described a similar sighting though, no images were forwarded. There may be other sightings from this area listed at MUFON and NUFORC...Lon
hornsby - Imagine a monster living on the borders of the upper north shore. An aquatic beast which lurks in the depths of the Hawkesbury River (New South Wales, Australia). A creature related to the Loch Ness monster.
For cryptozoologist Rex Gilroy, the fledgling legend of the Hawkesbury River Monster is real and he’s determined to prove it.
Since 1965, he and his wife Heather have been gathering information on a creature he believed still lives in our major waterway, or once did.
After years of ``patience, field trips and stake-outs’’ along the shores of the river, Mr Gilroy, who is also known for his research on the Blue Mountains Panther, hopes to finally obtain photographic evidence.
``Sooner or later, I’m hoping to get the shot of shots,’’ Mr Gilroy told the Advocate.
The Gilroys say they have compiled hundreds of sightings reports.
``They tend to be seen around (Mooney Mooney and Long Island),’’ Mr Gilroy said.
``There are stories of houseboats being lifted up at one end when something underneath tried to surface over at Jerusalem Bay.
``A lot of the inlets here have stories.’’
The most recent sighting was by fishermen near Wisemen’s Ferry, in March.
``(One of them) momentarily saw a serpentine head and about 2m of long neck rise above the water before submerging,’’ Mr Gilroy said.
He also referred to a sighting by Rosemary Turner in 1975, who reported a monster swimming upstream from a lookout at Muogamarra Nature Reserve.
Robert Jones, a palaeontologist from the Australian Museum, said that as far as science is concerned, the existence of the Hawkesbury River Monster has never been proven.
``It’s impossible for them to live in the Hawkesbury River; they just don’t exist,’’ he said.
But according to Mr Gilroy, the monster is part of Aboriginal folklore, with stories of women and children being attacked by the ``moolyewonk’’ or ``mirreeular’’ both indigenous names. They also feature in ancient rock art on the banks of the river.
``There’s got to be something to it,’’ Mr Gilroy said.
Descriptions of the Hawkesbury River Monster liken it to the prehistoric plesiosaur, an aquatic dinosaur 70 million years extinct.
The Loch Ness monster is also said to be related to the same extinct creature. How the Nessie myth is similar to our own, HERE
Mr Jones said plesiosaurs did exist in Australia, but ther was no evidence of them inhabiting the Hawkesbury River.
However both Mr Gilroy and Mr Jones describe the aquatic dinosaur as grey and mottled in colour, with a large bulky body, two sets of paddle-like flippers, a long neck and serpent-like head and thick, eel-like tail.
Sighting reports describe it as about 24m long. Mr Jones said the plesiosaur grew up to 10m long.
Mr Gilroy said he and his field assistant Greg Foster may have sighted the creature last August, from a high bank near Wiseman’s Ferry.
They described seeing a dark, bulky shape with a long neck about a metre from the surface.
Its movements caused surface disturbance which appeared to suggest a marine creature with two sets of flippers and a tail, Mr Gilroy said.
``It was encouraging,’’ he said.
``I’m hopeful that I’m going to get some sort of evidence that satisfies me ... and when I’ve got that, I will be pleased to put it on the desk of some scientist and say `well there you are!’’ ____________________ Originally posted 8/9/2009
Hunting For Sydney's Underwater Monster
dailytelegraph.com.au - From the depths of time it comes from the ocean, gliding up our waterways to lay its eggs then slipping silently away again - this is Sydney's own "Nessie".
Cryptozoologist Rex Gilroy said he recently saw the 12m giant surface in the Hawkesbury River. Through binoculars Mr Gilroy saw a dark shadow ``with a longish neck'' near Wiseman's Ferry.
The revelation comes just days after Google Earth images showed what appeared to be Scotland's Loch Ness Monster.
Mr Gilroy, who has been searching for Sydney's beast since 1965, said he believed it was a plesiosaur from the Jurassic period.
Mr Gilroy, known for his research on the western Sydney panther, said neither the NSW nor Scottish Nessies were alone.
"We'd have to have a breeding population of no less than 300 to 600," he said.
"We're dealing with ocean creatures coming into the river to breed. There are areas of ocean ... anything could live down there and you wouldn't know it.''
After hearing of the Hawkesbury Monster in 1965 he found accounts dating back to pre-colonial times, with stories told of children being attacked by the "moolyewonk".
When fishing boats were found overturned and the occupants missing in the 1980s, the Hawkesbury Monster was the prime suspect.
"We have rock art depicting them. It seems the Aboriginal people knew of these creatures," Mr Gilroy said.
Chris Holly's Paranormal World - In year 1992 the newspapers on Long Island New York reported a suspected UFO crash on November 24th in South Haven Park located in Suffolk county. You can find reports on this event with an easy Google search.
I remember the event as I lived in Suffolk county New York at the time and recall all the talk and newspaper reports around this event. It seemed to be the main topic of conversation for a short time but soon lost its interest as the holidays were just starting and the UFO story seemed to lose its headlines to Santa and the Malls.
Years passed and the interest in this crash got lost when the topic quickly seemed to vanish from the public 's eye.
During the late 90's I joined a weekly group of women who would walk together in the malls early in the mornings for exercise. It was a trend at the time and very popular during the long cold winter months.
One of the women I walked with I knew from School. She and I would walk and talk daily catching up on our lives. She told me about her new love relationship with a man who lived near the South Haven Park.
She talked lovingly about this man but secretly I was a bit concerned at some of things she told me about her new found love. This man lived in an old cabin in a very rustic rural area. He made very little money and was fixed on remaining that way. His theory of living was to survive off the land and not to get caught up with the rat race of society. I found her stories about this man a bit disturbing but could see she was very taken with him so just listened and smiled and was happy she was happy.
When I met my friends new love he matched what I had anticipated. He was a tall man who had long dark hair to his waist worn in a ponytail, old worn jeans and a torn washed out flannel shirt. He wore worn out boots and drove a beaten up orange pickup truck that always seemed to contain some kind of firewood over flowing from its bed.
During the early fall my friend and her new man hosted a dinner party held in mans extremely rustic cabin. The cabin was a very old dilapidated three-room building that he was holding together with duck tape and hope.
Two large wood burning stoves heated it with his water supply borrowed by way of hoses from his neighbor’s barn. I do not recall if he had electric or not as the party was lit by candles. I do know he heated water on his stoves to wash dishes and take a bath every few days. It did have a working bathroom - sort of.
He lived off the land, which meant he helped himself to the local farmers crops taking his vegetables and fruits from their farms at night by way of flashlight and climbing fences. He also hunted in restricted areas, fished often and always killed the ducks in the area for his seasonal dinner parties. He would brag openly at how little he actually purchased to live or entertain. I found him to be a cheap and a thief.
Our dinner party consisted of stolen vegetables and fruit and freshly killed ducks. The old house was blazing with candles. He used his grandmothers china to set a hand made huge table in front of his large wood burning stove. Strangely it was a interesting enjoyable night.
The man's cabin was located near South Haven Park. At the end of the evening we were sipping coffee and sharing the homemade fruit pies when the subject came up about the UFO crash in the nearby park years before in 92.
As the man who lived in the cabin devoured the homemade apple pie, he interrupted the conversation mouth full and grunted something about seeing it.
One of the guests heard what he had said and stopped the conversation and asked what him what he had seen? “I saw that crash” he said as if it were a off handed comment about the weather.
At once the people around the table became silent and turned towards him and asked. “What do you mean? You saw the UFO crash in South Haven?” He kept chewing while his girlfriend picked up the subject for him. “Oh I guess we never mentioned it before. He was out gathering wood that night in the park and saw the whole thing.”
As you can imagine every set of eyes in the room were now focused squarely on the pie-eating cabin dweller. Finally he looked up from his pie plate to a room full of people waiting for him to explain more.
He looked around the table knowing he had to confess now as all ears were waiting. He sat back in his chair and said “ OK, I will tell you but you cannot talk about this as I will deny it. You know you're not allowed to take wood out of the park but there were tons of it just laying there rotting. I wait till nightfall. I can get in to the park from the back roads easily so I go in and gather up what’s laying around.”
Knowing this guys way of life no one was at all surprised that he did this. In fact we knew that he most likely hunted there at night too. I think it was a favorite area for him to collect meat for his winter house parties!
He put down his fork, looked at us all, and nonchalantly as if telling us about a walk in the woods told us his story.
“I was out for a wood haul in the park. It was early around 7 at night I think. I parked my truck on a back road like I always do and was getting out my ax and basket to carry the wood back to my truck. I first heard it, like a huge rushing air sound with a high-pitched whine. I looked around and didn’t see anything at first.
It was getting louder. My senses just made me look towards the noise and I saw it coming in out of the night sky down towards the woods. At first it looked like a big fireball. As it got closer it changed direction and dipped lower coming in over the park. It was a huge dark colored UFO craft coming in on its side. It was partly on fire across the one side of it. It was really moving fast.
Within seconds I heard it hit the ground. It sounded like a big splat rather than an explosion. I just stood there a minute kind of shocked and kind of frozen in fear. I thought I heard some kind of movement coming from the park from the direction of where this thing hit.
I was really terrified as I didn’t have any hunting gear and no one knew where I was. I threw my gear in the truck and tried to start my truck. The damn thing wouldn’t turn over at first. I was thinking about making a run for it back to the main road and my cabin. I tried one last time to turn over my truck and she kicked in. I backed down that dirt road in record speed and got the hell out of there. I think I was just crazy scared and cant swear to it, but I thought I heard yelling or screaming coming from the crash area.
I knew I was going to be in trouble if I was caught in there at night so I took off. When I hit the main road I saw all the red lights coming towards the park. I knew I had to get home and lock myself in and that’s what I did. I drove home and locked up the cabin the best I could. I stayed awake all night with my shotgun, just in case whatever was hollering in that woods found its way to my place.”
We all looked at this man in stunned silence. Finally one of the other guests began to question him. " Did you ever tell the police what you saw; does anyone from the government know you saw the thing crash? Were you able to get back into the woods to see what was going on?"
The answer to all of the questions was no. He was so afraid of being caught over his sticky finger habits and illegal behaviors that he never reported his sighting to anyone other than my lady friend and now us.
He told us that he watched the next few hours as trucks, jeeps and helicopters flooded the area. He watched as emergency vehicles entered South Haven Park. He told us that flat bed trucks that looked to be military would drive in empty and come back down the same back road with a load on it that was covered in green canvas.
He said the next day he tried to walk his old hound down the road close to where all this activity was going on only to be told to go home and stay there until further notice by men in what appeared to be orange hazard suits. He did not know if the phones were knocked out as he did not have one at the time but did say his truck would not start easily for days after the incident.
Finally after about a week passed the people, trucks and helicopters were gone and the park seemed to stand barren and silent.
“I can’t explain it but the park seemed dusted of even dirt after that happened. It was like they came in and took every twig and log and leaf that was lying around in the woods. It was as if the whole place had been swept and a false fake wooded area was left behind."
I was still frightened of the place and since they took all the wood out there was no reason to go back. Funny I haven’t been back there since”
The conversation then turned towards others who lived in the area who remembered losing phone service, electric service and having car problems that week. Everyone recalled seeing the trucks and helicopters around. Thanksgiving weekend was a day or so after this event followed by the holidays. Interest in this event seemed to simply get lost due to the time of year it occurred.
I think about this strange man living out in his cabin unwilling to share his watching this craft crash right in front of him. I wonder how many other people have similar reasons that also prevent them from reporting incredible encounters for rather simple human reasons?
Over the years I have spoken to many people who live or lived in that area near that park who also witnessed that craft fly over the town and bank a turn into the park where it crashed. Many watched as the clean up took place and the craft removed yet for some reason this amazing event passed by us all rather easily.
I guess we are creatures of our own habits traditions and needs. A UFO crashing over the holiday season when people are caught up in hectic preparation for the holiday Christmas traditions is a perfect time for something like this to be kicked under the carpet.
I will never forget the fact that this man's need for a frugal life style and his fear of being caught doing shady things was stronger than the fact he witnessed an incredible event. He simply did not want to get involved. I wonder what he will do if one summer night while stealing peaches from his neighbors trees he comes face to face with whomever or whatever was flying one of those crafts. No one would know what happened to him as he never tells anyone when he slips off to fill his basket with stolen fruit!
I haven’t thought about this event in a very long time. I wonder how many others clearly watched as that craft crashed that November night in 92?
I wonder how many people are walking around with similar stories who remain silent in order to protect their identity from those who expose those like them for personal gain. We need to find a way for those who have seen things to be able to report them without the fear of ridicule or abuse by the media for the purpose of a good story.
I think we are really a confused society who forever seem to insist on staying firmly planted in the dark ages when it comes to things unknown. It is incredible we have come as far as we have in science and technology as we basically are our own worst enemies when it comes to all things not yet understood.
Be careful out there, you never know what you may see while stealing apples!
