Is Stephen Hawking Right? Can We Handle The Truth?

In 1911, a chunk of rock reportedly fell from the sky and killed a dog in the little town of Nakhla in Egypt. This was the first known fatality caused by a cosmic object.

Scientists later revealed the rock was not a common meteorite, but a piece of Mars.

As British biologist J.B.S. Haldane said, "the universe is not only queerer than we suppose, but queerer than we can suppose".

Interestingly, the story of the unlucky pooch was followed by a spate of UFO sightings.

The number of claimed extraterrestrial encounters and claims of alien abductions have exploded since.

The best-educated generation in history is fascinated by the subject.

The desire to have contact with something from beyond seems to be part of our psyche, even for those without religious faith.

The hunt for intelligent species outside Earth may be a staple of literature and film...but it is happening in real life, too. NASA probes are on the lookout for planets outside our solar system, and astronomers are carefully listening for any messages being beamed through space. How awe-inspiring it would be to get confirmation that we are not alone in the universe, to finally speak to an alien race.

Well no, according to the eminent physicist Stephen Hawking. "If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans," Hawking has said in a forthcoming documentary made for the Discovery Channel. He argues that, instead of trying to find and communicate with life in the cosmos, humans would be better off doing everything they can to avoid contact.

Hawking believes that, based on the sheer number of planets that scientists know must exist, we are not the only life-form in the universe. There are, after all, billions and billions of stars in our galaxy alone, with, it is reasonable to expect, an even greater number of planets orbiting them. And it is not unreasonable to expect some of that alien life to be intelligent, and capable of interstellar communication. So, when someone with Hawking's knowledge of the universe advises against contact, it's worth listening, isn't it?

Seth Shostak, a senior astronomer at the SETI Institute in California, the world's leading organization searching for telltale alien signals, is not so sure. "This is an unwarranted fear," Shostak says. "If their interest in our planet is for something valuable that our planet has to offer, there's no particular reason to worry about them now. If they're interested in resources, they have ways of finding rocky planets that don't depend on whether we broadcast or not. They could have found us a billion years ago."

If we were really worried about shouting in the stellar jungle, Shostak says, the first thing to do would be to shut down the BBC, NBC, CBS and the radars at all airports. Those broadcasts have been streaming into space for years...the oldest is already more than 80 light years from Earth – so it is already too late to stop passing aliens watching every episode of Big Brother or What Katie and Peter Did Next.

The biggest and most active hunt for life outside Earth started in 1960, when Frank Drake pointed the Green Bank radio telescope in West Virginia towards the star Tau Ceti. He was looking for anomalous radio signals that could have been sent by intelligent life. Eventually, his idea turned into SETI (standing for Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence), which used the downtime on radar telescopes around the world to scour the sky for any signals. For 50 years, however, the sky has been silent.

There are lots of practical problems involved in hunting for aliens, of course, chief among them being distance. If our nearest neighbours were life-forms on the (fictional) forest moon of Endor, 1,000 light years away, it would take a millennium for us to receive any message they might send. If the Endorians were watching us, the light reaching them from Earth at this very moment would show them our planet as it was 1,000 years ago; in Europe that means lots of fighting between knights around castles and, in north America, small bands of natives living on the great plains. It is not a timescale that allows for quick banter...and, anyway, they might not be communicating in our direction.

The lack of a signal from ET has not, however, prevented astronomers and biologists (not to mention film-makers) coming up with a whole range of ideas about what aliens might be like. In the early days of SETI, astronomers focused on the search for planets like ours...the idea being that, since the only biology we know about is our own, we might as well assume aliens are going to be something like us. But there's no reason why that should be true. You don't even need to step off the Earth to find life that is radically different from our common experience of it.

"Extremophiles" are species that can survive in places that would quickly kill humans and other "normal" life-forms. These single-celled creatures have been found in boiling hot vents of water thrusting through the ocean floor, or at temperatures well below the freezing point of water. The front ends of some creatures that live near deep-sea vents are 200C warmer than their back ends.

"In our naive and parochial way, we have named these things extremophiles, which shows prejudice – we're normal, everything else is extreme," says Ian Stewart, a mathematician at Warwick University and author of What Does A Martian Look Like? "From the point of view of a creature that lives in boiling water, we're extreme because we live in much milder temperatures. We're at least as extreme compared to them as they are compared to us."

On Earth, life exists in water and on land but, on a giant gas planet, for example, it might exist high in the atmosphere, trapping nutrients from the air swirling around it. And given that aliens may be so out of our experience, guessing motives and intentions if they ever got in touch seems beyond the realm's even of Hawking's mind.

Paul Davies, an astrophysicist at Arizona State University and chair of SETI's post-detection taskforce, argues that alien brains, with their different architecture, would interpret information very differently from ours. What we think of as beautiful or friendly might come across as violent to them, or vice versa. "Lots of people think that because they would be so wise and knowledgeable, they would be peaceful," adds Stewart. "I don't think you can assume that. I don't think you can put human views on to them; that's a dangerous way of thinking. Aliens are alien. If they exist at all, we cannot assume they're like us."

The researchers at the forefront of the work are astrobiologists, working in an area that has steadily marched in from the fringes of science thanks to the improvements in technology available to explore space.

Scientists discovered the first few extrasolar planets in the early 1990s and, ever since, the numbers have shot up. Today, scientists know of 443 planets orbiting around more than 350 stars. Most are gas giants in the mold of Jupiter, the smallest being Gliese 581, which has a mass of 1.9 Earths. In 2009, NASA launched the Kepler satellite, a probe specifically designed to look for Earth-like planets.

Future generations of ground-based telescopes, such as the proposed European Extremely Large Telescope (with a 30m main mirror), could be operational by 2030, and would be powerful enough to image the atmospheres of faraway planets, looking for chemical signatures that could indicate life. The SETI Institute also, finally, has a serious piece of kit under construction: the Allen Array (funded by a $11.5m/£7.5m donation from Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen) has, at present, 42 radio antennae, each six meters in diameter, but there are plans, if the SETI Institute can raise another $35m, to have up to 300 radio dishes.

In all the years that SETI has been running, it has managed to look carefully at less than 1,000 star systems. With the full Allen Array, they could look at 1,000 star systems in a couple of years.

Shostak is confident that, as telescope technology keeps improving, SETI will find an ET signal within the next two decades. "We will have looked at another million star systems in two dozen years. If this is going to work, it will work soon."

And what happens if and when we detect a signal? "My strenuous advice will be that the coordinates of the transmitting entity should be kept confidential, until the world community has had a chance to evaluate what it's dealing with," Davies told the Guardian recently. "We don't want anybody just turning a radio telescope on the sky and sending their own messages to the source."

But his colleague, Shostak, says we should have no such concerns. "You'll have told the astronomical community...that's thousands of people. Are you going to ask them all not to tell anybody where you're pointing your antenna? There's no way you could do that."

Bob Dean: Bringing in the Light - Project Camelot

Click for video

Bob Dean is a legend in his own time. He is, I believe, a one-man disclosure project. Ask him to the party and you barely need anyone else to make the case, for the truth behind ufos, ETs and the secret space program. He lends a touch of class to everything he touches.

After two brilliant interviews with Dean, imagine my surprise when I got a call from him telling me he wanted to come forward again... He had, he says, barely grazed the surface of what he knows. Hard to believe but who am I to quarrel with the 'great Yoda"?

So to Laughlin we went. I was accompanied by Jack Burns, the notorious, future, giver of Camelot conferences... A man who has attracted controversy and even, some believe, ignominy to Camelot in the process.... When these two war horses met it was a meeting of brothers. They had ridden together back in the days of the Knights Templar, they said. And Dean greeted him like the long lost comrade he was. With Jack's help -- handling the roving camera... I sat down with the retired Command Sergeant Major to have another go... and down the rabbit hole we went. A bit deeper in search of the real truth behind the matrix. And Bob did what he does best... bringing in the light.

'Cowboy' the Ghost - Emerado, North Dakota

Click for video

woai - Emerado, North Dakota -- It all started with some surveillance video. Bar owner, Brent Aspinwall says it felt like someone tugged his shirt. A close-up of the image on tape, some say, looks like a person that they've named “Cowboy.” There have also been other incidents.

"I saw a figure by the dart board. It was quick and fast. It was an older man with dark rimmed glasses and a hat that snapped in front," said Penny Sorteberg, a resident of Gilby.

Brock McAdam, another Gilby resident said, "All of a sudden I heard a tap on the bar, and I got chills and my hair stood up on my arms and just got cold all of a sudden."

It all led to an investigation by a group of spirit world enthusiasts, who were on hand this week to reveal their findings to bar patrons.

"Based on what we have collected, I would have to say you guys have some paranormal activity," said Nick Guse of Dakota Paranormal Investigators.

They supposedly recorded the sounds of silverware moving by itself, and there was a strange occurrence by that ghost named Cowboy.

"I said hey, if you're here come sit on my lap and then I said to Nick... I'm feeling like I'm having a cold feeling... sensation on top of my lap," said Kelly Moraghan, also of Dakota Paranormal Investigators.

"I was pointing the thermometer and it went to about 65 or 66, and I said can you get it to got to 60 to prove that you're here. And it went to 60 and it stayed at 60," said Guse.

The Dakota Paranormal Investigators say they'll continue to research what's going on here. Bar employees also say there have been several incidents where a water faucet in the bar, which they say just seems to turn on by itself.

NOTE: It's hard to see on the video but the bartender does seem to react to something pulling on his shirt. The apparition is difficult to see as well. I called KLVY-TV in Fargo, ND and talked to a production manager who told me that the 'Hanger Bar' in Emerado has a history of strange phenomena. I attempted to dig up some information but there wasn't much available. Also, the paranormal group has yet to post any investigation notes. A ghost story from a business in a town with a population of 550 that makes a city TV newscast is probably a good way to get some curious patrons...Lon

China's Triassic Dragon

The "China dragon fossils", were recently exhibited in the Xinwei Ancient Life Fossils Museum in Anshun, Guizhou.

When archeologists first stripped the clay off the fossil, they found the dragon had a pair of horns above its head and the shape of the dragon was very like the legendary animal often described in books and stories.

Dragons have often appeared in Chinese legends. The dragon with two horns on its head is regarded as a totem. The totem was first invented by Chinese ancestors and worshipped by the Chinese people. Therefore Chinese people are also called the "descendents of the dragon".

For a long time, scientists thought that the dragon was a fictional animal existing only in stories.

The dragon fossil was found in Guanling County, Anshun City, in 1996, and has been kept in a good condition. It is measured 7.6 meters long. Its head is 76 centimeters long and the neck is 54 centimeters long. The body is 2.7 meters in length and 68 centimeters in width, and the tail is 3.7 meters long.

The dragon’s head is in a triangle shape. Its mouth is 43 centimeters long. The widest part of the head is 32 centimeters long. The horns project from the widest part of the head, and are symmetrical and 27 centimeters long. They are a little bit curved and tilted, which makes the fossil look very much like the legendary dragon.

The China dragon was a reptile animal living in the ocean in Triassic Period about 200 million years ago. It was an amphibian. It spent most of its time living in water, although sometimes it walked on land. It also laid eggs on land. The animal lived on fish and small reptile animals.

This is the first time that China found a dragon fossil with a pair of horns. Its discovery provides some evidence to prove that dragons might really have horns. The fossil provides important scientific information for people to trace the origin of the Chinese legendary dragon.

NOTE: this article came out of China in 2007 and, frankly, I don't really know if it's bogus or not...though a couple of news agency recently ran it again. Doesn't really look like a 'fossil' but looks too 'defined' to have been photoshopped...Lon

Crop Circles: The Ongoing Mystery

Chris Holly's Paranormal World - Crop Circles are part of the unknown that takes place all over this planet. Although extremely interesting crop circle designs or art are completely ignored by most people.

I find the incredible designs and numbers of circles formed each year to be fascinating. I find the fact people ignore, yawn or just do not care they are being formed also fascinating. It brings me back to my considering the global spraying going on worldwide in our skies to be huge doses of dummy juice!

It seems there are about 250 circles or designs formed every year. There seems to be some debate to when the crop circles first were discovered. Most seem to feel it is a modern day event starting within the last 30 or so years. Others claim they have been going on since the 1800’s. Knowing how many are discovered each year and the time they started to be noticed are for me important parts of trying to rationalize out what exactly is going on with the crop designs.

Since the real time line of this subject seems to remain in debate I will say that if there were some kind of evidence that crop circles were being made worldwide dating before the 1900’s I would consider alien intelligence rather than mankind the most logical source.

If however they are a modern happening the only logical conclusion would be to include our fellow humans as part if not entirely responsible for these incredible designs.

I personally feel that the crop circles being made today are computer generated works of art. I would consider hanging many as framed photos. The question is who is generating them?

I do not think a bunch of local boys are hooking up to boards in the middle of the night and forming these intricate designs. I am sure there have been circles made in this manner but there simply is no way that the fantastic designs found all over the world is being done by a pack of bored good ole boys.

The fact that the circles are found all over the planet at a rate of 250 per year also rules out the idea any earth bound group is doing this. It would be expensive, time consuming and next to impossible to pull off that many designs in that amount of time.

It seems to be common for the people that live near crop designs to share a mutual response of not seeing or being aware of when they are made.. There have been reports of light or orbs being seen in the areas but rare are those who have been on hand when they are being formed.

Frustrating as this may be I do believe we need to do more than ignore the fact these extreme designs are being left in fields across the world. The fact we do not know what is forming them is rather bizarre. The fact we do not as a species seem to be interested or care is equally as bizarre.

Logic rules out the idea that all crop circles are man made by people with boards strapped to their feet. I understand there are a few fools out there making a circle now and then however the elaborate circles by number and location around the world allow us to fully realize more is at hand here.

Like everyone else who has looked at this phenomenon I have tried to figure out how this is being done. I wonder what is being used to produce the intricate designs being found all over the world. I understand many feel they are computer generated in design. I agree they most likely have been done by an artful hand and a computer program. That however does not explain how they are being formed silently without detection all over the world.

I also have researched those who have been present when crop designs are being formed to find a recurring description of light rays, bright light or light orbs being seen.

It is obvious they are being created above the crops by way of some type of force. Knowing that our planet is now full of orbiting satellites makes space a logical place to look for an explanation. I wonder if the ability to form the crop designs is not being done by way of sound, light or a form of electromagnetism we are not yet privy to. I know that sound and light are being developed in the area of weapons. I know electromagnetism is able to do many actions we are only beginning to understand. It may be the crop designs be a test of this new technology or simply a way of killing boredom by some mad group of science freaks who fully enjoy messing with the public by way of sculpting out a crop circle design on a dull satellite control shift? It is not impossible.

Another area to consider is the ongoing development and use of the HAARP weather manipulation machines that are located across the planet. Many countries now own and use these horrible machines. I would think anything capable of controlling and changing the weather across the planet from space is also capable of tossing down a few computer designs on a few farmer's fields along the way.

Last but far from least I must include the idea that beings who easily could possess the ability to form crop circles are the ones from a orbit around earth who are blasting down the crop circle designs as a wakeup call for mankind to start looking up!

Nancy Talbot who is a crop circle expert had an experience when visiting a farmer with crop circle problems in his fields where she witnessed a circle being made.

Nancy and the farmer watched as bright light covered one of the farmer’s fields while large rays of light blasted down from the night sky. They both watched this event take place and both found a new crop circle formed right before their eyes. They did not see a craft only this light display coming straight down from the night sky.

I believe they are being made via that which orbits our planet by intelligent beings via computer designs. I just have no idea at all whom what or where these intelligent beings are or why they are doing this.

I do find this to be a great mystery. I also find our apathy concerning this mystery strange and concerning.

We have incredible designs being forced on the crops of our farmers all over the world. There is no reason for them or explanation for them. No one knows how they are being done or by who. They are ongoing and average about 5 new ones each and every week. The biggest mystery here is that no one seems to care and no one seems concerned. Now that is as mysterious as the phenomenon.

If it is the misuse of our space projects, I think we should be aware of it. If it a big expensive joke by a bunch of bored science geeks I think it should be stopped. If it is a tactic to frighten us by those operating the weather manipulation machines I want to be able to ignore them – and if they are messages from another life form I think we need to begin to pay attention. The one thing I do believe strongly is that that the crop circle design mystery needs to be solved.

Be careful out there, pay attention to your surroundings and always keep your eyes on the sky.

Dealing With The Unknown

NOTE: The following is a very interesting email I received today from 'Seeing Things in Ohio'. BTW, I'm going to hold off on the 'Humanoid / Cryptid Encounters Reports' series for a bit...but I promise to resume soon. Now, let's see if we can help this reader with their concerns...Lon

Dear Mr. Strickler,

"I will be upfront an honest with you. I am one of those who want to believe. However, I am also one of those who is very skeptical. I have read the books of Eric Von D, Robert Bauval and others. Mainstream media has tickled my interests in DaVinci and the Free Masons. And for over 15 yrs or so (now being in my early 30's) I have always had a love of Mayan, Inca, and ancient Egyptian societies. Maybe a year or so ago while watching something on NatGeo/SyFy/History Channel, I was browsing the WWW and came across your blog. I have followed on and off since then, and with your posts of the little lizard man and most recently your post of the "Red Man", they kinda hit home for me. With "V", I felt that if this person could come forward then I know I am not alone and they may also know that they are not alone in having an experience."

"I was born and raised in NE Ohio. I had a normal upbringing (or what some would call). Parents are still married, went to church on Sundays, had a dog, picket fence, all those things. I did a little marijuana in high school, I rarely drink, and there is only one reported case of a mental illness in my family."

"When I was 12-13 yrs old, I remember having a very vivid dream where I was sitting in my living room watching TV. While watching TV (which in my dream I was viewing myself in 3rd person) something made me want to look out through the dining room and out through the large sliding glass door into the backyard. When I turned my head, it was completely dark outside, and then in almost a comedic way of film, this giant moon slid up from below the horizon (like from the 9 to 12 position on a clock). The moon was enormous, almost filling the sky and was brilliantly white. As I sit dumbfounded in my dream staring out the back window, something pulls my legs out from under me while I'm sitting on them on the floor. This startled me but while in my dream I am still staring at the moon this voice from what I can only assume was in my head said, "its almost over"."

"This frightened me horribly. So much that I woke up hot and sweaty only to find my bedroom door partially open with a small, dark figure closing the door and saying without moving his mouth "don't tell"."

"I don't recall really any of the small humanoid's features. I just recall him being about 2-2.5 ft tall and seeing the figures darker than gray complexion and nothing moved on its face when I heard it speak. Even to this day this incident is one of the most vivid memories that I have."

(Seeing your photo of the reptile man was nearly like pulling out a photo of my head from that past memory)

"I mentioned nothing of this occurrence until a just a few years ago to a close friend. I never even told my wife."

"Well I went off to college, came back home, got married, had a couple of kids and just over a year ago bought my parents house. On and off since the encounter/dream/incident (whatever you would like to call it because I don't) I get this feeling like I'm being observed. Not the kind of being watched where you are sitting up at night unable to sleep and you feel like someone is watching you through the window. More like something is waiting for me as I walk into rooms and sitting in the car with me while I drive to work. This was only in small increments and I never felt it to be constant. But since moving back home, I am feeling it more so."

"My son is the fun age of 5 and recently started talking about some guy he met here at home named 'Kyle Foker'. He tells my wife and I that he has seen him all over the house. Yes he is a child, with an imagination. But while giving him the 20 questions over his new friend I am rattling my brain on what TV show/commercial/movie he could have come up with this, and so far have come up with nothing."

"While that is going on I was in the kitchen just a week or so ago talking to my mom and for some reason I felt compelled to look the other way and I saw a dark figure. This figure that I saw had an upside down triangle for a torso and a rectangular block for a head. When I turned to look I could tell that it looked at me because while my brain was trying to comprehend what I just had seen, I could see that the block head sort of rotated and proceeded to take an immediate left and zip its way through my stairs that go up to our bedrooms."

"From everything that I know, no one has died on this property. (My grandfather that lived with my parents and I (at my current location) for a few years while from the time I was six until I was in high school became ill with Alzheimer's and later passed away having a complication from a stroke at a hospice center.) But I am afraid partially for my sanity but more for my family. Although no one has been hurt in any way, I can't help to think like a father/husband and want to protect my family from any possible threat. But my issue here is that what the hell am I dealing with? Possible alien thing, spirit, mental illness, or D: all of the above? Am I seeing one thing and my son is seeing something else?"

'Any help you could lend would be greatly appreciated."

Video: UFOs Over Pittsburgh Skyline Similar to 'Lake Erie Lights'

Click for video
Statement: April 29, 2010 — I was filming the over the at the river banks of the Pittsburgh river and there they were hiving over some buildings. What followed was totally awesome. I captured the same event that Michael Lee Hill (Frozenhill) caught while he was filming at the banks of Lake Erie. Obviously these must be the same aliens that he filmed which leads me to believe that they are spreading their activities and possibly gearing up for the great disclosure event. Something wonderful is about to happen.

NOTE: first off, turn down the volume because the person taping this event has an irritating voice! Anyway, if this is the real deal (...and I'm not making an implication either way) then the similarity to the 'Lake Erie Lights' incidents is somewhat, well, ...eerie :) Tell me what you think...Lon

Four-Legged 'Grey Monster' Sightings - Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico

NOTE: the following is a recent post by Scott Corrales at Inexplicata:

Mexico: Four-Armed “Grey Monster” in Monclova

Several witnesses claim seeing the creature – Elements of the public safety forces responded to reports – Creature’s presence is associated with animal deaths.

[Prof. Ana Luisa Cid notes: “I learned of this incident through Ing. Ricardo García of Monclova. It should be noted that the reports are from three separate dates: April 4, 5 and 9. On the 4th, it was seen by some children in the Chinameca district; on the 5th, it was seen at the Alamo district, where witnesses point out that it submerged into the Monclova River; on the 9th it was reported that a shepherd saw it several times at a ranch and that it has killed 10 goats in six months. All information is from the Zocalo newspaper.”]

Monster Causes Alarm in Chinameca
By Sergio A. Rodriguez
Diario Zocalo, April 5, 2010

MONCLOVA, Coahuila – Residents of Colonia Chinameca were gripped by a psychosis on Saturday night after two children reported seeing an alleged monster of humanoid characteristics and four legs on Calle Londres in that busy sector.

The children described the entity as a little man with smooth, grey skin and four legs or lower extremities. It was seen in an empty lot of the street in question in the Chinameca district.

Omar Andres Armendariz and Jose Rolando Gallegos, both 13 and local residents, were terrified and spread the word of the “being” they had just seen among other locals.

The mother of one of the youngsters, seeing the state of nerves that her child was in, called the police, requesting that whoever caused her son to fall into such a state of terror be apprehended.

After receiving the report, law enforcement agents reported to the scene and searched everywhere for the strange little man, but could not establish it whereabouts. However, this is not the first time that strange things have been reported in this district, according to residents.

“Monster” Drives Bathers Out of the Moncloa River
By Alejandro Hernández

Diario Zocalo, April 6, 2010

MONCLOVA, Coahuila – Residents of Colonia Alamo had quite a fright yesterday upon seeing a large, grey-colored, four-legged creature submerge into the waters of the Monclova River at the location known as “El Charco Azul” (the blue pond)

Public Safety Personnel reported immediately to the scene to deal with the case, which represents the second sighting of an unknown being with matching characteristics.

Officers of the Policia Preventiva ordered bathers out of the water at the location where the “grey monster” was seen entering the river.

According to reports provided by the police department, residents contacted the desk officer to report the strange animal sighting at 2:00 p.m.

It should be noted that on Saturday night, two minors were terrified by the sight of a strange being in Colonia Chinameca. They described it as having the same characteristics.

In yesterday’s report, residents of Colonia Alamo stated that what appeared to be a “strange animal” broke into a run and entered “El Charco Azul”, submerging itself without coming out again.

Several elements of the Municipal Police reached the site quickly and conversed with some locals, who concealed their personal information.

Four young men from Colonia del Río – Jesús, Rolando, Emmanuel and Edgar – were terror-stricken by the “little man” while fishing for king prawns at the location.

Psychosis Strikes Monclova – “Monster” Now Seen at Ejido

By Zocalo, April 9, 2010

MONCLOVA, Coahuila – The monster seen at Chinameca and the Monclova River appears to dwell in the city’s southwestern section, over by Ejido Curva de Juan Sánchez, where it has slain 10 goats over the past six months and has been seen on at least five occasions, even in broad daylight.

Jaime Cruz, a 21-year-old shepherd from Irapuato, Guanajuato, says that he has seen the strange beast several times between Ejido Curva de Juan Sánchez and the Colinas de Santiago district. The beast is no ordinary animal and is also capable of extremely high leaps.

Four-Legged 'Grey Monster' Sightings - Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico

Bigfoot Sighting - Northeast Frederick County, Maryland

"I was on the way to the grocery store one day about 2-3 weeks ago and I saw something standing upright against or behind a tree. At least it looked that way. It happened when I was crossing a railroad track and that was against a hill that had a sharp bend at the top. So I didn’t stop, fearing someone would come and hit me from behind. At the time I tried to tell myself that maybe it was a tree. So when I came back from the store whatever I saw wasn’t there anymore and I just can’t explain it."

"It wasn’t the same color as the tree. That’s what made me curious. It was a light reddish brown with beige. Almost like the hair was 2 toned or something. The hair looked like it was in jagged tuffs that looked like it would look darker underneath if you lifted the fur. At the same time looked like you’d like to touch it .(maybe that’s because I’m a hairdresser). I can’t explain what it was since I did not see a face or did I see any arms and feet. But whatever it was, it was about 6 or 8 ft. tall from the ground to where it stopped about 6-8ft. alongside that tree. I did notice the part that I saw was a little rounded at the top as if suggesting a shoulder. It wasn’t another tree since nothing else in the area (tree or bush) was that same color. I wish now that I gotten someone and looked for tracks. It has rained 3 or 4 times now so I guess I wouldn’t be able to see anything. I may go look anyway. I don’t know if it could have been a Sasquatch or what it could have been, but whatever it was it was standing straight and tall and didn’t move."

"I don’t know if the ole big guy (if that’s what he was) was passing by or he’s a local? There have been sightings to the south of us (Little Bennet campground in Frederick Co.) and some north of us in Adams County, Pa., which is just around 12-15 miles from here. I’d like to see him in the daylight again if that’s what I saw. But it would scare me sh—less if I were to see him at night. I’m here by myself a lot at night and our dog wants to always go out. When she does, she acts like she is scared sometimes since she stays on the deck and looks. I sometime wonder what she is looking at. I know this may not be from your area, but thought you’d like to know. There may be others that come across your website as I have tonight with a similar story to tell from this same area. If so then maybe we have a local. Thanks for inviting me to tell my story. I just had the need to tell you cause now you have this story for a reference in case someone else comes forward and tells you their story. I will definitely keep my eyes open and let you know if I notice anything else. I kind of got the feeling that these things (if that is what it was) are very adapted to blending into their surroundings. It actually looked like it would have been soft if I were able to touch it. People go out looking for Bigfoot all the time. They go places where they think they will see him, and all the time he’s probably almost in their back yard. I have read that he will find you and now I believe that." Thanks...J.P.

NOTE: The witness requested that her name and location be kept private for the time being...though, I have marked the general area on the map (northeast Frederick County, MD - between Westminster and Thurmont, MD). There have been several documented sightings in this general area over the years. The best known case involves 'The Dwayyo' which I have posted below. As well, there was a major Bigfoot flap in the vicinity of Sykesville, MD in the 1970's (where I had my personal encounter in 1981) which is a half hour southeast of this location. I plan to investigate further and attempt to gather additional anecdotal / physical evidence. A good reference source to past Maryland Bigfoot sightings is 'The Maryland Bigfoot Guide' by Mark Opsasnick...Lon

On Saturday evening, November 27, 1965, near the woods of Gambrill State Park, "John Becker" went out in his yard to investigate a strange noise. It was getting dark, and he had started back to the house, when he saw it...something moving toward him.

"It was as big as a bear, had long black hair, a bushy tail, and growled like a wolf or a dog in anger."

As it got closer, it stood up on its hind legs and attacked him. "Becker" fought the creature until it ran into the woods, leaving him, his wife and children in horror.

Deciding to remain anonymous under the alias John Becker, he filed a report with local state police, telling of an attack by a mysterious monster that he called a Dwayyo.

Sensing a good story, Frederick News Post reporter George May wrote a series of articles on the monster, and soon newspapers throughout the area were carrying the story.

These articles spawned a rash of calls and letters to the newspaper, ranging from the absurd to the furious.

Several University of Maryland students wrote that they had investigated the origin of the unknown creature and had traced its ancestry to the upper Amazon River and the Yangtze River plateau. They also reported that they had seen several of the creatures on campus late at night and found them friendly and fun loving.

The County Treasurer's office received an application for a Dwayyo license from a "John Becker" accompanied by the one-dollar fee. The license was issued and mailed in care of George May, Frederick News Post.

An Adamstown woman called the paper and insisted that "this trash about the Dwayyo be stopped." She said her daughter was being treated for a nervous condition because of all this talk about the Dwayyo.

The Frederick newspapers also reported other "sightings."

Several hunters saw a strange black beast roaming the woods. An Ellerton woman reported that residents of that area had heard something cry like a baby and scream like a woman for several months. A Jefferson woman said that she saw a strange dog-shaped animal about the size of a calf chasing some cows on a farm near her home.

However, investigations by local and state police turned up nothing substantial on the John Becker-Dwayyo story.

By mid-December, the story started to fade. There had not been any sightings for several days, and it was suggested that the Dwayyo had moved on to another area.

NASA Balloon With Telescope Crashes In Australian Outback

yahoo - A huge NASA balloon loaded with a telescope painstakingly built to scan the sky at wavelengths invisible to the human eye crashed in the Australian outback Thursday, destroying the astronomy experiment and just missing nearby onlookers, according to Australian media reports.

In dramatic video released by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), the giant 400-foot (121-meter) balloon is seen just beginning to lift its payload, then the telescope gondola appears to unexpectedly come loose from its carriage. The telescope crashes through a fence and overturn a nearby parked sport utility vehicle before finally stopping.

The attempted balloon telescope launch took place at the Alice Springs Balloon Launching Centre, near the town of Alice Springs, in the northern territory of Australia.

The wayward balloon overturned one car, but missed another parked nearby with local Alice Springs couple Stan and Betty Davies, who had come to watch the launch, still inside.

"We were sitting in our car and preparing to move it out of the way and we were actually about a foot of being wiped out," ABC quoted Davies as saying.

The balloon was carrying the Nuclear Compton Telescope (NCT), a gamma-ray telescope built by astronomer Steven Boggs and his colleagues at the University of California, Berkeley, California to study astrophysical sources in space.

"Today was a terrible day for a lot of people," wrote Eric Bellm, a graduate astronomy student at the UC Berkeley, in a blog chronicling the science mission. "For the NCT team, we've poured our hearts into this instrument for years. It was an almost unfathomable shock to find ourselves cleaning up the wreckage of our gondola rather than watching it lift off towards space."

The unmanned research balloon was built by NASA's Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility in Palestine, Texas and expected to haul its two-telescope payload up to an altitude of about 120,000 feet (36,576 meters). That's about 23 miles (37 km), though smaller home-built balloons have been built to reach high altitudes as well.

In his account of the crash, Bellm said an investigation into the balloon's launch failure will be performed, though a first glance found that at least some of the components for the Nuclear Compton Telescope appear to have survived relatively intact. The science team has cleaned up the wreckage and returned it to a staging hangar, he added.

Ravi Sood, director of the Alice Springs Balloon Launching Centre and a professor at Australia's University of New South Wales, said no one was hurt in the incident, but sometimes balloon launches can go awry.

"Ballooning, that's the way it happens on occasions but it is very, very disappointing. Gut-wrenching actually," he told ABC.

The failed balloon launch in Australia marked NASA's second balloon science campaign this month at the remote site. On April 15, NASA's balloon science program launched Tracking and Imaging Gamma Ray Experiment (TIGRE), a gamma-ray telescope, to search the galactic center of the sky for emissions from radioactive materials, NASA officials said.

That launch, which sent the telescope and its balloon to an altitude of 127,000 feet (38,709 meters), went according to plan, the space agency said.

The balloon's next payload to fly, an X-ray telescope called HERO aimed at mapping the galactic center for NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, was targeted for May, Australian officials added.

The following are some of the more interesting emails I have received lately:

GHOST AT 30,000 FT

I would ask my colleagues if they had a ghostly experience or anything related to it. This is one of my favorites...

Chona, a senior flight attendant at that time, was standing by her door in first class. The steward and the other flight attendant had gone on their first shift of their crew rest. The purser decided to turn off the video in the main screen because there was only one passenger and he requested not to be disturbed...he wasn't interested in the movie. The aircraft was a 747-200 series and we had 18 seats in first class.

The cabin was dark and Chona was enjoying her alone time staring at the darkened cabin when someone stood up from the front row. A steward! one asked if they could sleep in front. So she waited as the steward turned and walked away from his seat...and through the fuselage into open air at 30,000 feet!

Without thinking, she ran towards business class to look for real humans. They never found out who the steward was and they left it at that.

Being the only girl in the family, at the time, I had a bedroom all to myself. I was just a teen in junior high and was interested in witchcraft. (I guess I was watching too much 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' or something). I was spoiled with a computer and a TV in my room. Back in the day, kids having a computer in their own bedroom wasn't very common. I would go online trying to find spells that I could do, stumbled across this one website that had an ouiji board online. I hear stories of how the board is the devil's game, I figured since this was online it wasn't the same.

The website had a prayer or a chant that I remember I had to say to have God protect me from whatever may happen. I asked a simple question "is anyone here"...I thought..."ok now whats suppose to the mouse suppose to move around?? how do I get an answer?" it just came to a point where i thought it was ridiculous and shut off my computer. A couple of nights later, I noticed my teddy bear missing from my bed. (I sleep alone but I've always slept with a bear because it brought comfort like someone was there with me). I bent down to go pick it up, and staring at me was a red man standing half way through my door. I looked at him and froze. He just smiled at me, not moving. I left the bear and pulled the blanket over my head and trembled...terrified that the thing would come over and just rip the blankets away from me. I was too scared to sleep so I waited until the morning, when I can see some sort of light in my bedroom.

I was eating breakfast at the table with my two younger brothers and my dad and I told them what I saw. My dad overhears me and goes "oh dont worry, that was me". I didnt say anything because I didnt want to freak him out if he couldn't explain it, but how could it be him if I locked the door? I am the only one who has the keys to my door (like I said I was pretty spoiled, I changed the locks myself and had both the keys that came with the door knob). I lock my door every night, I hate the feeling of someone, anyone...that can just burst into my room in the middle of the night.

That house terrified me. Late at night I could hear creaks and banging noises. I'm now 26 and no longer live in that house. I truly cant explain what I saw. My eyes don't play tricks on me, when I'm up...I'm up, even if its going to the washroom at 2 am or even 5 am.

I've told this story to my friends and co workers but they laugh at me like I'm messing around. It's gotten to the point where, I'd rather not say anything at all because they are non believers.

NOTE: I received a Bigfoot encounter report from nearby Frederick County, Maryland today (sighting was approx. 2 weeks ago). I am in the process of gathering further information...hopefully, the witness will allow me to post her experience. If you have an extraordinary encounter/sighting/anecdote, please feel free to contact me...Lon

Man Claims No Food / Drink For 70 Years - Scientists are studying an 82-year-old man who claims he has not had any food or drink for 70 years.

Prahlad Jani’s claims are being put to the test at a hospital in Ahmedabad, where he is being closely monitored and studied by India’s Defence Research Development Organisation, which believes he may have a quality which could help save lives, The Telegraph reports.

He has so far spent six days without food or water under the strict observation of doctors who say his body is yet to show any signs of hunger or dehydration.

Mr Jani is regarded as a "breatharian" who can live a "spiritual life-force" alone. He believes he is sustained by the "elixir" of a goddess.

The research organisation believes Mr Jani could hold the key to helping soldiers or disaster victims survive without food for longer periods in times of crisis.

"If his claims are verified, it will be a breakthrough in medical science," said Dr G Ilavazhagan, director of the Defence Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences.

"We will be able to help save human lives during natural disasters, high altitude, sea journeys and other natural and human extremities. We can educate people about the survival techniques in adverse conditions with little food and water or nothing at all."

However, others have dismissed Mr Jani as a "village fraud".

Leading Australian nutritionist, Dr Joanna McMillan Price, said the study was a dangerous and pointless exercise.

"What’s the point? To show spiritual strength? You would struggle to go for more than a week without water and without food, your body starts to break down muscle, eventually attacking the heart muscles needed to provide energy to the brain until ultimately you have a heart attack and you die," she said.

Dr McMillan Price says Mr Jani's beliefs probably helped him overcome basic survival instincts but would not physically sustain him.

"Your spiritual beliefs can give mental strength but the idea that spirituality can replace food and water is ludicrous," she said.

"He would certainly be fighting strong physiological responses. Your body starts getting pretty strong hunger pangs after a few days because your brain is telling you that you need to eat or you’ll die."

Dr McMillan Price said she couldn't see Mr Jani lasting any more than a few extra days without water and she said his fasting gave the wrong message.

"The determination he’s showing is certainly a nice message but I really think it could be put to better use than to go without food and water," she said.

Russian Hunter Claims He Saved Bigfoot From Drowning

A Russian hunter claims he has saved something that can only be described as Bigfoot from a frozen river in central Siberia.

Russian news agency Itar-Tass quoted a source in the administration of the Tashtagol district of the Perm Region as saying that the incident took place in April this year near the village of Senzaskiye Kichi. The village is located 140 kilometers away from the nearest human settlement and the only connection with its residents is by helicopter. The latest flight to the village brought back a written report about the encounter with the so-called Bigfoot.

The letter read that professional hunter Afanasiy Kiskorov together with several other hunters was fishing when they heard a loud cracking of ice and a howl. When they approached the source of the noise, the hunters saw an unusual creature described as “like a huge man covered in dark brown fur.” The creature was in the river, about 10 meters from the bank and it unsuccessfully tried to get out of the water and stand upright.

Kiskorov rushed to the rescue and reached out for the drowning creature with a dry tree branch. “Bigfoot” then grabbed the branch, got onto shore, and walked away.

Authorities in the Kemerovo Region have repeatedly released stories of Bigfoot sightings over the past few years. According to them, those interested in cryptozoology could help to develop the Siberian tourism industry.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle 'Ghost' Painting Up For Sale

PFC - The Sherlock Holmes author bought this painting while mourning the death of his son in WW1

A painting inspired by the psychic spirits of dead soldiers and bought by a grieving Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who lost a son in WW1 will auction as part of the Owston Collection in Sydney.

Bonhams' sale will take place on June 25-26.

The painting by William Francis (Will) Longstaff (Australian, 1879-1953) titled 'The Rearguard (The spirit of ANZAC)' is a huge oil on canvas measuring 53 9/16 x 106 5/16 inches.

The piece is estimated to sell for A$20,000-40,000 (over US$37,000). Sir Arthur Conan Doyle purchased the painting directly from the artist for his own collection, 1928.

The painting is an iconic image, believed missing until now, by the Official War Artist, Will Longstaff. It is one of a series of only six paintings which represent the pinnacle of the artist's career, beginning with his best-known work, Menin Gate.

Longstaff had attended the unveiling ceremony of the Menin Gate memorial in Ypres on July 24, 1927.

He was so moved by the ceremony that, during a midnight walk along the Menin Road, he imagined a vision of steel-helmeted spirits rising from the moonlit cornfields.

It is said that, following his return to London, he painted the work in one session. Mrs Mary Horsburgh, who had worked in a British canteen during the war, may have influenced him.

She had met him during this evening walk, and told him that she could feel "her dead boys" all around her. Spiritualism was very much in vogue in the 1920s, and many who wished to communicate with relatives and friends who had died in battle found consolation in its tenets.

'The Rearguard' was reported to have been painted under similar psychic influence:

"Mr. Longstaff says that he felt an uncanny 'urge' to paint the picture, which formed itself with lightning rapidity in his brain," said Conan Doyle.

"He began at 7 o'clock in the morning, working unceasingly in the dim light. He had experienced a sensation not felt in any other work, and he was surprised and delighted. It is one of the most remarkable pictures I have seen.

"The artist worked for 11 hours with the fury of inspiration. Genius has always been on the edge of psychic influence.'"

`The Rearguard (The spirit of ANZAC)', presents a ghostly array of soldiers lining up near the beach at Gallipoli in the bleak dawn, with departing transports and warships barely visible on the misty horizon.

The subject is probably the most poignant of the series: Longstaff enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force at the outbreak of the First World War and was himself injured at Gallipoli.

The ANZAC tradition; the belief that the First World War, and the Gallipoli Campaign in particular, was a watershed in Australian history, and that those who died on foreign soil did so to create a greater Australia, gave this painting an added, almost religious, significance.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who bought the painting claimed to have had conversations with the spirits of many great men, including Cecil Rhodes, Earl Haig, Joseph Conrad and others. In his later years Sir Arthur often expressed a wish that he should be remembered for his psychic work rather than for his novels.

When he celebrated his seventy-first birthday he confessed he was tired of hearing about his celebrated character, Sherlock Holmes. "Holmes is dead," he said. "I have done with him." Ten of Sir Arthur's 60 books are about 'spiritism'.

Bonhams, the international fine art auction house, is to sell the Owston Collection in Sydney on June 25-26.

The sale will be held at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay overlooking the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. A significant number of items will be offered with 'no reserve', providing an extra interest in the sale.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Ouija Board

deadlinescotland - A OUIJA board thought to have been used by the creator of Sherlock Holmes has been found in a secret compartment at a school of paranormal studies.

Staff at the Edinburgh College of Parapsychology found the occult Victorian device hidden in small cupboard built into a kitchen wall, 20 feet out of reach.

The spooky find – used to spell out messages during a Séance – is thought to have been used by mystery writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The device was found with its original packaging, and was labelled as a “Telepathic Spirit Communicator.”

Edinburgh-born Doyle immersed himself in the practice of spiritualism in 1906, after his wife Louisa and son Kingsley died.Doyle found solace in the practice, which believes that contact can be made with people beyond the grave. The area is even said to have influenced his writing, and his novel, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, was even banned in the Soviet Union because it was said to be occultist.

Roberta Gordon, 62, a medium and president of the college, said the Victorian device was found along with a “Dungeon Tube” with is said to use musical vibrations to relieve pain.

She said: “We were very excited to be quite honest.

“Arthur Conan Doyle was very much into spiritualism so there is every chance he would have seen some of the equipment we found.”

“There is no way we will be parting with any of it though – it’s part of our heritage.”

Roberta’s husband Richard, 66, from Gullane, East Lothian added: “We’ve found quite a few unusual things while we’ve been clearing out the building, like strange recordings.

“The college has been here for 77 years so there’s a lot to find.

“I believe Doyle used to frequent the building.

“And it’s well known that he was a spiritualist – it’s very possible that he used the board.

“The board was made in Manchester, and we’ve got the packaging as well.

“We’re not sure how old it is yet, but the wheels are made of bone – not plastic or wood.”

Roberta and husband Richard have spent the last few months renovating the building, which is in the upmarket west end of the city.

But the ouija board is not the first unsettling discovery the couple have made.

They’ve also found old records containing medium sessions and red lights used during Derren Brown style séances.

Roberta said: “We had been told there was paint stored in one of the high-up cupboards, so we set about looking for it.

“But instead we discovered all of this – we couldn’t believe it.”

The college was founded in 1932, but followers of spiritualism existed long before then, often operating in secret for fear of persecution by the authorities.

Evangelical Archaeologists Claim Discovery of 'Noah's Ark'

thesun - The remains of Noah’s Ark have been discovered 13,000ft up a Turkish mountain, it has been claimed.

A group of Chinese and Turkish evangelical explorers say they have found wooden remains on Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey.

They claim carbon dating proves the relics are 4,800 years old — around the same time the ark was said to be afloat.

Yeung Wing-Cheung, from the Noah’s Ark Ministries International research team, said: “It’s not 100 per cent that it is Noah’s Ark, but we think it is 99.9 per cent that this is it.”

He said the structure contained several compartments, some with wooden beams, that they believe were used to house animals.

The group of evangelical archaeologists ruled out an established human settlement on the grounds none have ever been found above 11,000ft in the vicinity, Yeung said.

Local Turkish officials will ask the central government in Ankara to apply for UNESCO World Heritage status so the site can be protected while a major archaeological dig is conducted.

The biblical story says that God decided to flood the Earth after seeing how corrupt it was.

He then told Noah to build an ark and fill it with two of every animal species.

After the flood waters receded, the Bible says, the ark came to rest on a mountain.

Many believe that Mount Ararat, the highest point in the region, is where the ark and her inhabitants ran aground.

NOTE: well, here we go again. How many times has 'Noah's Ark' been discovered? The following list describes some of the more infamous 'Noah's Ark' discoveries/hoaxes...Lon:

Nicholas II and the expedition to Mount Ararat

Conspiracy theorists believe that Nicholas II of Russia sent an expedition party to Mount Ararat in 1917 to investigate reported remains of Noah's Ark.

The Russian Imperial Air Force is reputed to have sent up to 150 men up the mountain to examine an 'anomaly' after 'a Russian pilot flying over the area reported a dark structure about the size of a battleship with a rounded-over top'.

The odds are stacked against this particular tale, as Nicholas abdicated during the February Revolution of 1917, meaning it is unlikely that the expedition was ever sent.

Some investigators have claimed that the expedition actually set off in 1916 and that after finding the 'ark' a number of photographs were taken. Unfortunately, in true conspiracy-theorist style, the photographs mysteriously disappeared after Leon Trotsky discovered their existence.

Subsequent expeditions have been unable to find the colossal structure.

Professors Mud & Stoneass

In an unfortunate case of failing to check the date, a number of papers picked up on the Kölnische Illustrierte Zeitung April 1 story on Noah's Ark.

A number of pictures accompanied the 1933 article, showing a huge boat resting on a mountainside, which were duly reprinted across the globe with translations of the article.

On April 8 1933 the Cologne-based paper admitted its tomfoolery, but even though the tale was unquestionably false, that didn't stop an intrepid group of Ark-hunters in 1972 basing their search for the lost vessel on the original article.

Fernand Navarra

When French explorer Fernand Navarra announced that he had found a five-foot section of the Ark on the slopes of Mount Arat, people were, it seems, justifiably sceptical of his claims.

The Forestry Institute of Research and Experiments of the Ministry of Agriculture in Spain dated the wood at 5,000 years old, seemingly vindicating Navarra's claims. However, it was later discovered that the samples are actually only between 725 and 535 years old and that Navarra had in fact simply bought the wood from a nearby village.

George Jammal

George Jammal claimed in 1993 that he had found a section of 'sacred wood from the Ark' in a CBS documentary. The expedition, according to Jammal, was long, arduous and even claimed the life of his friend Vladimir.

In fact, the entire story was a deliberate hoax designed to fool the media, at the centre of which was a lump of timber that had actually been lifted from Californian train tracks.

Steven Greer Responds to Stephen Hawking's Comments

Steven Greer Response to Stephen Hawking Comments - April 26, 2010

It is unfortunate that Stephen Hawking has added his voice to a growing chorus of xenophobia and fear regarding what he terms "Aliens."

Secondly, as a scientist, he should know better: Any interstellar civilization would possess such technologies that the meager resources of Earth would be unneeded. If you can travel faster than the speed of light, you can manifest what is needed. Period. Moreover, IF they were hostile- since ETs are already visiting Earth (see this would have been made crystal clear when we detonated the first atomic weapon in 1945. To date, no place on Earth has been invaded or attacked or colonized.

Hawking should refrain from stirring the war-mongering fear pot that attends all things "alien." And one might ask: Why would he make such statements, unless he is carrying water for the military-industrial-financial complex which profiteers off of the wars that fear breeds?

Steven M. Greer MD
April 26, 2010

NOTE: This is the same person who exclaimed to the world that he captured the 'first ever extraterrestrial' image (yeah, that image on the left!) but demands CSETI members sign nondisclosure agreements if they join him on his 'field trips'. Greer sells the information he claims to have privileged access to. He sells his alleged knowledge of how to call a UFO. He sells anything he can. He makes a mockery of ufology and real people who seek the truth. The alien presence, IMO, is the most important story in the history of this planet. Now, he wants to criticize Stephen Hawking because his opinion may interfere with his agenda. Well, Steven Greer...bite me! Lon

Australian Man Claims Alien Ordered Him To Crash Car

dailytelegraph - Damian Amos says he was just following orders from a "head alien" when his car sped into another vehicle in 2004, killing a Gold Coast grandfather.

But government prosecutors said Amos was simply drunk, The Gold Coast Bulletin reports today.

During the opening day of his trial in Southport District Court Tuesday, the 32-year-old pleaded not guilty, on the grounds of insanity, to the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, causing death.

The jury heard how Amos had a history of paranoid schizophrenia and had not taken his medication the morning of October 9, 2004, when his car, travelling at 140km/h (87mph), rear-ended the hatchback of 58-year-old Keith Evenis in Queensland.

The massive impact shunted the hatchback forward 74m (243 feet.) into a tree. It exploded in a fireball, instantly killing Evenis.

Defense barrister Angelo Vasta, QC, told the jury Amos's driving in the 70km/h (44mph) zone could only be described as "maniacal" but argued his client was not guilty.

He said Amos should not be held criminally responsible as he had suffered a psychotic episode while driving and "lacked capacity to control his actions."

A document of facts accepted by both the prosecution and defence was read to the jury stating that the traffic accident happened shortly after Amos had been ejected from a local golf club for hitting balls at other golfers.

Vasta said his client left and was driving when he had a psychotic episode and believed he heard instructions from a "head alien" to immediately return to his Broadbeach Waters home, on Australia's eastern coast. .

"The head alien told him he had to get home and he wanted to obey the command and he drove in a way that showed he was in control of the head alien," said Vasta.

The barrister told the jury Amos had been treated for mental illness since 1999 but over the years had suffered psychotic episodes in which he communicated with alien figures and believed he had a microchip implanted in his brain.
