Salta, Argentina UFO / OVNI Sighting and Blackout - Updates

inexplicata - The fact that my organization, FAO (Fundacion Argentina de Ovnilogia) can rely on the assistance of over a hundred people distributed across the country, whether as collaborators, consultants or correspondents, places us at a great advantage in securing instant UFO information. In earlier times, we would learn of cases by mail weeks later, or by phone when the service was operational. An example of this can be seen in the Province of Salta, where researcher and private pilot Tony Galvagno, known for spearheading investigations into the 1995 Salta UFO Crash, which prompted his small plane to plummet from the air [...]

This morning we received an urgent call from Tony, saying that the transit of a “flying cigar” overhead with flashing intermittent lights and a red beacon on its structure, had caused an enormous BLACKOUT in the town of Joaquin V. Gonzalez, where he lives, as well as in adjacent communities, some 20 minutes after having appeared. Practically the entire department of Anta had “collapsed” as far as its power grid was concerned. Dozens of residents reported seeing the UFO after 0100 hours today (Thursday, November 26) on a hot and stormy night. The final trajectory of this object was south-southwest, in other words toward El Tunal, some 35 kilometers from Joaquin V. Gonzalez and bordering the Pasaje Juramento River. As hours went by, Salta’s power company (ENDESA) could not find a cause for the blackout until the light returned around noon yesterday, but telephone service remained out of order. Early in the afternoon, a “burned-out turbine” was found at the El Tunal power station. In other words, along the UFOs heading.

In this state of affairs, and given the magnitude of the events, we made the pertinent contacts with [INEXPLICATA contributing editor] Guillermo Gimenez being among the first to learn of the situation. Phone calls were made to and from Salta, confirming the manifestation of a large UFO. The regional and national press was informed, and their morning editions have probably prepared new information as communications are reestablished. Certainly El Tribuno and Salta’s Diario Popular will carry the story.

UPDATE: Giant UFO Causes Commotion in Salta

Perhaps the most chilling detail of what happened yesterday morning in Joaquin V. Gonzalez, a town of 20,000 residents considered by traditionalists as the “heart of the province of Salta” is the abundance of eyewitness accounts and the manner in which they are so perfectly synchronized with each other. This little town is also known to the ever-watchful gaze of science for the fact that its heights are regularly swept by the passing of UFOs.

The entire town – or at least those who were awake at 0200 yesterday – agree that it was hot, an unbearable heat that kept people from getting a good night’s sleep, their eyes wide open under treacherous, menacing and stormy skies. Outside, people drank cool drinks or ate ice cream hurriedly, before these were reduced to sticky confections.

This was the fate of many residents of Joaquin V. Gonzalez, engulfed by nearly 300,000 hectares of soybeans, when at 2:00 a.m., with heat still burning under their skins, they saw a strange, gigantic luminous creature, elongated and weightless, heading southeast to El Tunal, some 35 kilometers from the town. It plowed the dark skies, lighting everything around it, visible to everyone.

The “cigar-shaped UFO” (as it is known to specialists) crossed the Saltan night suspended under a spongy ceiling of clouds, and according to some of the numerous witnesses, “with intermittent, flashing lights and a fixed red beacon”. As the object disappeared from view, those who watched the sky as though expecting something more, saw it disappear into the darkness toward El Tunal. Minutes later (some say 5, others 15), all of Joaquin V. Gonzalez experienced an electrical blackout that submerged a 200-kilometer area in the deepest darkness possible.

“It was terribly hot. Some people were eating ice cream while others sat around the outdoor tables of local restaurants,” said one witness to Salta’s El Tribuno. “Suddenly everyone saw a strange vehicle plow across the sky, completely illuminated, and a little bit later, there was a power failure. The phone lines were also rendered inoperative,” said the excited witness. “Things went back to normal at 11:30 a.m., nine hours later.”

The power failure was confirmed by the EDESA Company, which confirmed the lack of electricity only minutes after the blackout, adding that it was impossible to find the failure, which had occurred at the main power station located at El Tunal. The problem? “A burned-out generator”

UFO expert Luis Burgos told DIARIO POPULAR that “the blackout occurred some fifteen or twenty minutes after the object was sighted over Joaquin V. Gonzalez, and right when it hovered over the generating plant at El Tunal.” To Burgos, the protagonist of yesterday’s episode was “what we call a mothership, a sort of space aircraft carrier measuring no less than 200-300 meters long, and which usually issues smaller UFOs measuring between 8 and 10 meters in size, which later return to the [mothership].”

Burgos noted that yesterday’s episode is significant “due to the large number of eyewitness reports” to be found, although he added that he was familiar with this small Salta community because “the most significant case of last year occurred in the nearby town of Chicoana.”

In October 2008, “dozens and dozens of witnesses saw lights hovering over planted fields, and the following morning found strange, gigantic geometric figures.”

Meanwhile, other specialists added to the discovery of a “mothership” the fact that after the enormous device was seen over El Tunal, several UFO flotillas were reported in Peru. “It is almost certain that they had departed from the Mothership that passed over Salta,” they affirmed, and that in coming days, “we will surely have more developments.”

UPDATE: UFO Turns Out the Lights in a Salta Community

The luminous flying object cross the skies of a town in the province of Salta. After it vanished, the locality was plunged into darkness and telephone service was interrupted. Service was restored nine hours later.

Yesterday at 2:00 a.m., a town in Salta with a population of nearly 20,000 residents known as Joaquin V. Gonzalez was left without electricity and cut off from telephone service. Local residents claim that it was all caused by an unidentified flying object (UFO)

At that time, and in that distant region of Salta, a luminous, elongated UFO crossed the skies with a southeasterly heading toward El Tunal. The object had intermittent, flashing lights and a fixed red beacon. The area was plunged into darkness shortly afterwards.

“It was terribly hot. Some people were eating ice cream while others sat around the outdoor tables of local restaurants,” said one witness.“Suddenly everyone saw a strange vehicle plow across the sky, completely illuminated, and a little bit later, there was a power failure. The phone lines were also rendered inoperative.”

Luis Burgos, a UFO expert, told Diario Popular that the “blackout occurred 14 to 20 minutes after the object was seen over Joaquin V. Gonzalez, and just as it hovered above the El Tunal power station. He explained that the object was “what we call a mothership, a sort of space aircraft carrier measuring no less than 200-300 meters long, and which usually issues smaller UFOs measuring between 8 and 10 meters in size, which later return to the [mothership].”

UPDATE: Speculation About UFOs Over Salta and Perú - Is First Contact Imminent?

Daily newspapers of the Salta locality of Anta stated that in the early hours of Thursday, witnesess claimed seeing a flying object shaped like a luminous cigar. In Perú, a UFO flotilla showed itself over Lima.

CITY OF BUENOS AIRES (Urgente 24) - Daily newspapers of the Salta locality of Anta stated that in the early hours of Thursday, witnesess claimed seeing a flying object shaped like a luminous cigar.

The publication reports that “the Department of Anta was plunged into darkness in early morning hours yesterday following an interruption of electric power produced at the same time that dozens of witnesses claimed having seen a UFO plowing the skies over Joaquin V. Gonzalez.”

Similar statements were received from the districts of San Nicolas, San Cayetano, Malvinas Argentinas and the downtown area, and witnesses appealed to the news media at noon yesterday, once services had been restored, to provide their version of the events.

Daniel Barboza, director of Radio UNO, told Diario El Tribuno that “the lights went out around two in the morning. The night was hot, cloudy and the lightning bolts threatened to unleash a storm that never came, as only a light drizzle fell. For this reason we initially attributed the power interruption to weather conditions.”

“But today (meaning yesterday morning) residents from all of the districts came to the radio station to tell us about the sighting of a strange craft just at the same time that the electricity and other services were interrupted.”

He further reported that “according to all accounts, the craft was enormous, shaped like a cigar and completely illuminated. Residents claimed that it flew over the power plant area for a few seconds. The fact that people from various points of the city agreed on the description of the UFO attracted our attention, so we commenced our own investigation.”

Barboza added: “At first, we explored the reasons for the power outage, which is unusual in this locality, and rarely happens. if it happens, the power company provides advance notce for residents to take measures. Until today at noon (meaning yesterday), the local branch of the company had no explanation whatsoever. It is necessary to add to this the interruption of other services: water, phone, etcetera.” He further noted: “According to witnesses, the interruption could be due to the action of an electromagnetic field emanating from the craft, and which affected the station. But these are only conjectures.”

Antonio Galvagno, a commercial pilot and a member of the Fundacion Argentina de Ovnilogia (FAO), explained to local media that “according to all accounts, [the sighting] involved a mothership, cigar-type, elongated, completely illuminated by flash-type lights that ranged from white to red, which is unusual in this sort of craft. The UFO was seen in the northern part of the locality, toward El Tunal. What was most curious about the event was that this is the place where the electric utility detected a burned-out turbine, according to the information that was disseminated by the local media.”

UFOs Over Lima

Click for video - thanks to Goran in Croatia

Eight alleged unidentified flying objects (UFOs) were seen in the skies over Lima and were a source of astonishment to dozens of people going about their business in downtown Lima.

According to Peru 21, three luminous objects were involved at first, forming a perfect triangular formation in the sky.

The dots then began to move and multiply, eliminating the possibility that stars or balloons could be involved.

In the end, eight luminous objects formed an octagon in the sky. People stopped to look, raising their heads and looking at the bizarre spectacle in amazement.

UPDATE: Salta and the 1995 “UFO Crash”

It’s very hard to impress upon readers the level of UFO and high-strangeness activity that has characterized the Salta region for over half a century. A cursory glance at any of the maps provided with the news items provided with the most recent UFO blackout of Joaquin V. Gonzalez and its environs will reveal the names of adjacent communities that have appeared again and again in connection with the phenomenon: cattle mutilations, monsters, ghosts, UFO sightings, landings and contact experiences, human disappearances...far from being merely a “hot-spot” or a “flap area”, the province of Salta is a place where the line between the mundane and the extramundane has been permanently blurred.

In 1997 I wrote an article with information kindly provided by researcher Guillermo Aldunati concerning UFO activity in this region, and particularly an incident that is referred to (as recently as this week, in relation to the blackouts) as the “Argentinean Roswell”, as one of the incident’s protagonists has gone on to become a respected researcher in his own right, and a key member of the FAO organization. You have seen his name mentioned in these dispatches: Antonio Galvagno.

On August 17, 1995, Mr. Galvagno was having lunch with his wife at a quarter to two in the afternoon when a deafening explosion shattered the silence of the otherwise peaceful region. Thinking at first that it could be a massive earthquake, he and his fellow townspeople were startled to see a column of smoke rising into the air. This made them think immediately of an airliner collision or a meteorite impact.
As a civilian aviator involved in crop dusting, Galvagno did not hesitate to avail himself of his ultralight biplane to take a closer look at the impact area and check for survivors. The source of the smoke was in a vast, mountainous area known as the Serranía Colorada, and as he approached he was able to see that the pillar of black smoke was sooty and contained metal particles. His flyover was fruitless and he returned home. But far from being a quitter, he renewed his surveys of the collision area for two weeks.

Shortly after the event, according to his story, Mr. Galvagno had meeting with members of the National Gendarmerie, who sternly cautioned him to desist from his research. The warning was also extended to other local residents involved in getting to the bottom of the strange affair. But by now, the Argentinean news media had taken an interest in the matter, and journalists had been dispatched from Buenos Aires to distant Salta to cover the story. No official explanation was ever issued by the authorities and all that remains is a five hundred meter wide, five-kilometer long burn mark. According to a recent statement by Mr. Galvagno, “vegetation never grew in the area again, and it remains cordoned off to this day due to national security reasons,” in the words of both the Gendarmerie and the Argentinean Air Force.

Meteor fragments and military space debris have also found their way to this peaceful and remote part of the world. Southern Bolivia, to the north of Salta, is also remembered for the 1979 crash near the community of Tarija.

(7:38 am, 11.28.09) The following information was just received from Luis Burgos, director of the Fundación Argentina de Ovnilogia (FAO):

1) The number of witnesses to the event now surpasses one hundred.
2) All of them agree that the object was "cigar-shaped", was self-luminous and of considerable size.
3) No photos or videos are known to exist AS OF YET.
4) 40 kilometers from town, a row of 5 low voltage street lights were found completely carbonized in their upper section, their wires burned and shorted out. The light posts have 35 meters (114 feet) of separation between them, which suggests that the element causing the situation acted over a strip of no less than 140 meters (1500 feet) across.

'Lord of the Rings' Director Peter Jackson Recalls Ghostly Encounter

stuff - Wellington film-maker Peter Jackson says he saw a real ghost once.

In London for the premiere of The Lovely Bones - a film he has directed from Alice Sebold's story in which a murdered teenage girl gives her viewpoint from heaven - Jackson said he did not know what a real soul was like.

But he told Britain's Channel 4 TV that while he could not swear the spirit in the movie was 100 percent accurate, he had seen a real ghost.

"It was genuine," said Jackson, who made a 1996 ghost movie, The Frighteners - co-written with his wife Fran Walsh - starring Michael J Fox.

His sighting was in an apartment he and his wife had in Wellington's Courtney Place opposite the St James Theatre, when they first met 20 years ago.

"I woke up one morning and there was a figure in the room, she was very scary, she had a screaming face, very accusatory, she was a lady about 50 years old," Jackson said.

"It was terrifying actually, a very scary image and she was at the end of the bed and she glided across the room and disappeared into the wall.

"I sat in bed and thought, have I really seen that?" said Jackson.

"Then Fran came in. I told her about it and the first thing she said was: 'was it the woman with the screaming face?"' he said.

"Fran had seen the same woman in the same room about two years before."

Jackson said that when the St James Theatre was being restored a few years ago, people talked about the legend of the woman who committed suicide after being booed off the stage after a bad show in vaudeville days.

"They say she manifests herself in the theatre with a screaming face. Sometimes she's seen - the same ghost. She needs to learn to smile a little."

Bulgarian Scientists Claim Extraterrestrials Reside on Earth

telegraph - Work on deciphering a complex set of symbols sent to them is underway, scientists from the country's Space Research Institute said.

They claim aliens are currently answering 30 questions posed to them.

Lachezar Filipov, deputy director of the Space Research Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, confirmed the research.

He said the centre's researchers were analysing 150 crop circles from around the world, which they believe answer the questions.

"Aliens are currently all around us, and are watching us all the time," Mr Filipov told Bulgarian media.

"They are not hostile towards us, rather, they want to help us but we have not grown enough in order to establish direct contact with them."

Mr Filipov said that even the seat of the Catholic church, the Vatican, had agreed that aliens existed.

He said humans were not going to be able to establish contact with the extraterrestrials through radio waves but through the power of thought.

"The human race was certainly going to have direct contact with the aliens in the next 10 to 15 years," he said.

"Extraterrestrials are critical of the people's amoral behavior referring to the humans' interference in nature's processes."

The publication of the BAS researchers report concerning communicating with aliens comes in the midst of a controversy over the role, feasibility, and reform of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

Last week it lead to a heated debate between Bulgaria's Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, and President Georgi Parvanov.

Raelians to Reveal Origin in South Africa Conference

A conference will be held at the Wits Downstairs Theatre in Braamfontein on 7 December 2009 at 17h30 at which messages given to Rael will be shared.

On 13 December 1973, French journalist Rael was contacted by a visitor from another planet, and asked to establish an embassy to welcome these people back to Earth. He told that human scientists from another planet created all life on earth using DNA.

Traces of this epic masterpiece of creation can be found in all religious writings and traditions. It is to them that Moses, Jesus, Buddha and Mohammed referred. It is now time to welcome them.

The extra-terrestrial human being was a little over four feet tall, had long dark hair, almond shaped eyes, olive skin, and exuded harmony and humour. Rael recently described him by saying quite simply, "If he were to walk down a street in Japan, he would not even be noticed." In other words, they look like us, and we look like them. In fact, we were created "in their image" as explained in the Bible.

He told Rael that:
"We were the ones who designed all life on earth"
"You mistook us for gods"
"We were at the origin of your main religions"
"Now that you are mature enough to understand this, we would like to enter official contact through an embassy"

The messages dictated to Rael explained that life on Earth is not the result of random evolution, nor the work of a supernatural 'God'. It is a deliberate creation, using DNA, by a scientifically advanced people who made human beings literally "in their image" - what one can call "scientific creationism." References to these scientists and their work, as well as to their symbol of infinity, can be found in the ancient texts of many cultures. For example, in Genesis, the Biblical account of Creation, the word "Elohim" has been mistranslated as the singular word "God", but it is actually a plural word which means "those who came from the sky", and the singular is "Eloha" (also known as "Allah"). Indigenous cultures all over the world remember these "gods" who came from the sky, including natives of Africa (Dogon, Twa, etc.), America, Asia, Australia, and Europe.

Leaving our humanity to progress by itself, the Elohim nevertheless maintained contact with us via prophets including Buddha, Moses, Mohammed, etc., all specially chosen and educated by them. The role of the prophets was to progressively educate humanity through the Messages they taught, each adapted to the culture and level of understanding at the time. They were also to leave traces of the Elohim so that we would be able to recognize them as our Creators and fellow human beings when we had advanced enough scientifically to understand them. Jesus, whose father was an Eloha, was given the task of spreading these messages throughout the world in preparation for this crucial time in which we are now privileged to live: the predicted Age of Revelation.

And most important of all, read the book, "Intelligent Design - Message from the Designers" the book which will revolutionize your thinking, transform your life and which is already changing the world.

Recent Cattle Mutilations in San Luis Valley, CO Still a Mystery

chieftain - A string of calf mutilations earlier this month have left a local rancher and law enforcement scratching their heads.

Rancher Manuel Sanchez has had four calves mutilated over a three-week span in a pasture he leases near Los Vallejos, just southeast of here, with the most recent victim coming on Nov. 16.

In each case, Sanchez found his calves with skin peeled back and organs cleaned out from the rib cage.

He found no signs of human attackers such as ATV tracks or footprints in the pasture that's guarded by two locked gates.

Nor did he find any evidence of animal predators such as a coyote or a mountain lion. There were no blood pools near the animals, or drag marks on the ground. "There's nothing really to go by," said Sanchez, who's ranched for nearly 50 years. "I can't figure it out."

Sgt. James Chavez, who serves as the public information officer for the Costilla County Sheriff's Office, said a deputy and an undersheriff went to the pasture to investigate one of the killings.

Chavez said the investigation revealed no indications of a predator attack and the lack of blood at the site made it highly unlikely that a person butchered it.

"I've butchered a cow before and I know what kind of a mess it leaves," he said.

Both Sanchez and Chavez think there have been other mutilations in the area that have gone unreported because of people's unwillingness to talk about something so mysterious.

Chavez, who's worked in Costilla County for five years, also investigated mutilations when he was a sheriff's deputy in Rio Grande County.

Neither of the men believe aliens were responsible for the attack.

But in the San Luis Valley, where a mutilated horse maintains celebrity status four decades after its death and a UFO watchtower graces the roadside near Hooper, some may look upward for an explanation of the incidents.

The day after Sanchez found his last calf mutilated, Chuck Zukowski came down from Colorado Springs to investigate.

Zukowski, who investigated three cattle mutilations in Huerfano and Las Animas counties in March, hopes to establish a link between cattle mutilations and the existence of UFOs.

But Zukowski's report, which is posted on his Web site,, does not reach that conclusion.

It does note, however, that the mutilation of Sanchez's last calf was similar to one found on Tom Miller's ranch near Trinidad.

The only differences were that Sanchez's calf was missing part of its tongue, while the Miller calf was missing both its ears.

Zukowski hopes to find a cow mutilation with more of the animal intact so he can send it to veterinary labs at Colorado State University for a necropsy.

"We're trying as much as we can to find a pattern," he said in a phone interview with The Chieftain.

In the meantime, Sanchez has sold off his 32 remaining calves out of fear more would get mutilated.

He has yet to decide how he'll manage the remaining 40 animals in his herd.

"It's a big loss for a small rancher," he said.

Recent Bigfoot Encounter - Eastern Ohio

I'm sharing my experience only because I need some confirmation of what I witnessed.

I live in a rural section of eastern Ohio. I've lived in this house all my life and have never seen anything strange or unusual. I'm very familiar with the local wild life, in fact, I can distinguish an animal just by hearing how it walks and the noise it makes. This includes deer, coyote, and other smaller species. But, the last couple of months, strange things have been happening.

Early in October of this year, my sister and I (who lives next too me in the same yard) arrived home from a friend's house. We got out of the car and heard strange knocking noises in the woods. After a few minutes, we heard a very strange grunting and coughing. The coughing was rough and low pitched. I contend that no human could re-create that noise. I went in my house upset from what I heard.

A few nights later, I decided to walk over to my sister's house. My porch light was on and so was her's which lite up the road somewhat. I started walking across the yard when suddenly I saw a tall, strongly built black figure standing on the road. I'm positive it was not my shadow since it was shaped differently. This 'thing' started to move forward and run...I also moved towards it to get a better look. I got to the beginning of my sister's driveway. This creature was standing at the end of the driveway looking at me, its eyes glowing. It had to be well over six feet tall and was slouching forward a bit. When it ran it sounded like bare feet slapping concrete.

Over the next few weeks, I would continue to hear knocking, grunts and growls. I had a rock thrown at me as well. It was a small rock and it was dark so I couldn't find it. I decided to be brave and sit out one night. I grabbed a piece of chopped wood and hit it against a tree. Well, I got a response back. I did this for a couple of weeks, then it suddenly stopped.

Never has a Bigfoot been seen in this area. There have been sightings in the surrounding counties, but not here. I heard they can this true? Was this a Bigfoot? I think it was. Also, I haven't heard any coyotes since the encounter. Maybe they migrate? Could someone clear this up for me?

NOTE: this inquiry (which I cleaned up somewhat) was posted at ATS and another discussion thread. Frankly, eastern Ohio has been a hotbed of Bigfoot activity especially in the area of Salt Fork State Park located in rural Guernsey County, Ohio. The descriptions in the inquiry are classic Bigfoot signs, especially the 'wood knocking' and rock throwing which I have personally witnessed during my investigations here in Maryland and elsewhere. I believe some Bigfoot may migrate, but what distance and when? Interesting experience...I'd like to see a followup to this...Lon

Growing Meat Without Animals...It's What's For Dinner!

msnbc - Winston Churchill once predicted that it would be possible to grow chicken breasts and wings more efficiently without having to keep an actual chicken. And in fact scientists have since figured out how to grow tiny nuggets of lab meat and say it will one day be possible to produce steaks in vats, sans any livestock.

Pork chops or burgers cultivated in labs could eliminate contamination problems that regularly generate headlines these days, as well as address environmental concerns that come with industrial livestock farms.

However, such research opens up strange and perhaps even disturbing possibilities once considered only the realm of science fiction. After all, who knows what kind of meat people might want to grow to eat?

Advantages touted

Increasingly, bioengineers are growing nerve, heart and other tissues in labs. Recently, scientists even reported developing artificial penis tissue in rabbits. Although such research is meant to help treat patients, biomedical engineer Mark Post at Maastricht University in the Netherlands and his colleagues suggest it could also help feed the rising demand for meat worldwide.

The researchers noted that growing skeletal muscle in labs — the kind people typically think of as the meat they eat — could help tackle a number of problems:

* Avoiding animal suffering by reducing the farming and killing of livestock.
* Dramatically cutting down on food-borne ailments such as mad cow disease and salmonella or germs such as swine flu, by monitoring the growth of meat in labs.
* Livestock currently take up 70 percent of all agricultural land, corresponding to 30 percent of the world's land surface, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Labs would presumably require much less space.
* Livestock generate 18 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, more than all of the vehicles on Earth, the FAO added. Since the animals themselves are mostly responsible for these gases, reducing livestock numbers could help alleviate global warming.

Need to scale up
Stem cells are considered the most promising source for such meat, retaining as they do the capacity to transform into the required tissues, and the scientists pointed to satellite cells, which are the natural muscle stem cells responsible for regeneration and repair in adults. Embryonic stem cells could also be used, but they are obviously plagued by ethical concerns, and they could grow into tissues besides the desired muscles.

To grow meat in labs from satellite cells, the researchers suggested current tissue-engineering techniques, where stem cells are often embedded in synthetic three-dimensional biodegradable matrixes that can present the chemical and physical environments that cells need to develop properly. Other key factors would involve electrically stimulating and mechanically stretching the muscles to exercise them, helping them mature properly, and perhaps growing other cells alongside the satellite cells to provide necessary molecular cues.

So far past scientists have grown only small nuggets of skeletal muscle, about half the size of a thumbnail. Such tidbits could be used in sauces or pizzas, Post and colleagues explained recently in the online edition of the journal Trends in Food Science & Technology, but creating a steak would demand larger-scale production.

Dark thoughts
The expectation is that if such meat is ever made, scientists will opt for beef, pork, chicken or fish. However, science fiction has long toyed with the darker possibilities that cloned meat presents.

In Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson's epic sci-fi satire "Transmetropolitan," supermarkets and fast food joints sell dolphin, manatee, whale, baby seal, monkey and reindeer, while the Long Pig franchise sells "cloned human meat at prices you like."

"In principle, we could harvest the meat progenitor cells from fresh human cadavers and grow meat from them," Post said. "Once taken out of its disease and animalistic, cannibalistic context — you are not killing fellow citizens for it, they are already dead — there is no reason why not."

Of course, there are many potential objections that people could have to growing beef, chicken or pork in the lab, much less more disturbing meats. Still, Post suggests that marketing could overcome such hurdles.

"If every package of naturally grown meat by law should have the text, 'Beware, animals have been killed for this product,' I can imagine a gradual cultural shift," Post said. "Of course, we still have a long way to go to make a product that is even remotely competitive with current products."

NOTE: let's see...meat substitute = mystery meat. BTW, what is REALLY in Spam? If you have never seen the film 'Soylent Green', watch it...Lon

Video: UFO Activity Continues Over Tepexpan, MS, Mexico

Click for video

analuisacid - Testimony of Víctor González (translation) - Monday 9 of November I observed a very rare brightness among the clouds, later I perceived that the light emanated from an object that moved slowly in the sky. This passed over when I went walking bound for my son's school (to collect him). Then I carried the boy to the house of my mother-in-law, like I do every day, and I returned to the workshop. Already they had passed for 30 minutes and the object was still in sight. Then I notified my father so that removed the telescope. Thus I recorded it, to the 14:30 hours, adjusting to the telescope a camera of video of 40x optic zoom. Time lasted long, from 2 to 3 in the afternoon, until it advanced to the northeast to southeast. Is curious, but the sighting of last week was also in the same time period. (referring to the sighting posted below)

Video: 'Day of the Dead' UFO - Tepexpan, MS, Mexico

Click for video

Statement from witness (somewhat translated): analuisacid - November 2, 2009 - upon arriving at my mechanical workshop, I noticed a red pellet in the sky. I wanted to see it with the binoculars, but it was very high. When I left to eat I observed that continued in the same place. I spoke my father and thus I obtained three parts of video, at 2 o'clock p.m.

It was surprising when it expelled a silver-plated sphere, that moved slowly. This I could record no longer it because the memory was full. In the telescope the images are inverted, so the red small ball was down, and it left the other smaller there. Thought that is something rare, a UFO, since a globe - or any other thing? it does not remain static per prolonged time. Altogether it lasted like 5 hours, until it went in the direction of volcanos.

NOTE: the translation leaves a lot to be desired but I think you can get an idea what went on. This UFO / OVNI was seen during the "Day of the Dead" so that added some mystique to the sighting. This may very well be man-made though, it seems to have been at a very high altitude and wasn't affected by winds...Lon

UFO Reappears Over Tepexpan, Mexico

A luminous, multicolored object was recorded by Mr. Victor Gabriel Gonzalez over the town of Tepexpan (State of Mexico).

The sighting took place on November 26, 2007 at 11:30 a.m.

The witness says that he was outside his workshop engaged in car repairs when he saw a flash in the sky toward the west. He realized that the glow came from a static object in the sky, so it gave him time to get his Sony 108 Mini-DVD camera ready.

"When I started recording," says González, "the UFO began to move slowly. It flew over the electric lines and then remained static at another point toward the east. It was at that time that I switched camera modes to take some photos. For that reason I have both video and photos, estimating that the sighting had a duration of 10 minutes."

"I stopped seeing the object because it literally dissolved into the sky. It became progressively weaker, although it returned to the same place half and hour later. It should be noted that I had already seen it and videotaped on an earlier occasion, but the best images I've taken are the ones from today. I found out that there was a strong tremor in Mexico City, and without saying that there's a connection between both events, they would appear to coincide."

Burma's Junta Leader Orders Spirit Statue Handcuffed Each Night

irrawaddy - A handcuffed statue of a revered woman who exists only in Burma’s spirit world is at the center of debate and speculation among even the country’s intellectual elite.

“It is very interesting and mysterious story,” said Khin Maung Kyi, a writer on cultural affairs.

He and an increasing number of others interested in occult practices in Burma are following the story of a statue in Rangoon’s Bo Ta Htaung Pagoda which is handcuffed every night between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

“It is a sign of superstition,” said Khin Maung Kyi. “So we need to watch and observe it.”

The statue is of a prominent nat, or spirit, named Mya Nan Nwe and revered for the good deeds she is said to perform in the name of Buddhism. It is believed that she can transform herself into a beautiful girl and that she is the guardian of a treasure trove that she uses to build pagodas and other religious buildings.

Mya Nan Nwe is also known as Thike Nan Shin (a guardian spirit) and Amadaw (royal elder sister). All three names inspire reverence among a large number of devotees—Mee Mee, a university student, is a typical follower who visits the statue whenever she needs solace.

So why are the hands of Mya Nan Nwe’s statue, draped in green robes, handcuffed every night? Speculation is rife, but the most popular rumor says that the statue—and perhaps another one at a second Rangoon pagoda—is handcuffed on the orders of junta leader Snr-Gen Than Shwe.

Mya Nan Nwe is said to have appeared in her green robes before Than Shwe in his sleep and to have warned him of the bad consequences of his suppression of the Burmese people and of the country’s monks.

Ye Aung, an astrologer in Upper Burma, said Than Shwe could be linking Mya Nan Nwe with pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi—“So handcuffing the statue might be intended to suppress Suu Kyi and perhaps bring misfortune to her.”

Snr-Gen Than Shwe and many members of the ruling military are deeply superstitious and rely on astrologers and other soothsayers to advise them. Than Shwe is known to seek the advice of astrologers when making major policy decisions, and his wife Kyaing Kyaing is reputedly even more superstitious and a long-time believer in nats.

She and her husband, and many other members of the military elite, also indulge in yadaya, a kind of voodoo said to ward off ill-fortune, and are said to have employed its rituals in an occult bid to suppress the influence of Suu Kyi.

Kyaing Kyaing is said to have been told by an astrologer in the 1980s that her husband would one day head the government. The astrologer, a monk, also told Kyaing Kyaing that her husband had been a king in his past life.

After the first prediction came true, Than Shwe became interested in astrology and yadaya and began to seek the advice of astrologers and soothsayers—including Rangoon’s most famous fortune-teller, ET (also known as E Thi).

In October, the All Burma Monks Alliance excommunicated Than Shwe, naming him “Mecchadhtti,” meaning a man who is ignorant with no idea about religion.

A monk at the International Theravada Buddhist University in Rangoon said Than Shwe and other members of the junta “are very superstitious and all their ideas and decisions disillusioned. According to Buddha’s Dhamma, bad people see only bad omens and their minds are always insecure and they do only misdeeds.”

Tourists Capture Misty Photo at Former Hanging Tree Site

stv - A French couple touring the Highlands claim to have photographed a ghost on the former site of a hanging tree.

The couple claim the spooky figure appears in a photograph they took in the High Street in Fort William, in the West Highlands.

The site - the location of the Old Fort's hanging tree - is said to have been known for ghostly appearances since the tree was chopped down in the 1970s.

Sophie Mager, 32, and Remy Puckey, 40, from Jaux, just north of Paris, did not see the apparition in front of them but were baffled when it appeared in Sophie's picture.

They were spooked further when locals explained the spot was the site of the hanging tree, and there had been previous unexplained goings-on there.

The night-time image shows the bright lights of the houses in the town. In front, just before the camera lens, there is a white mist or smoke-like veil blocking the view.

But the couple, who work for ground services agents for French airlines, insist the sky was clear at the time and they have not altered their image in any way.

Ms Mager said: "It was amazing and I swear that it is not a picture with special effects.

"We didn't see the ghost on the spot, but discovered it when we looked on the picture. Many strange things are happening in Fort William."

Mr Puckey, who had looked forward to the five-day visit to Scotland because of his late grandfather from Aberdeen, said: "We showed it to the staff of the West End Hotel in Fort William, where we were staying. They too found the apparition intriguing - but scary."

The hanging tree had been utilised in the 18th century by successive governors of the fort for the execution of Highland clansmen who fell foul of their regime.

The tree, which had stood outside the fort walls for 300 years, was felled in the 1970s to make way for the town's new library and for an outdoor equipment store.

When it was cut down, local people claimed that its demise would bring with it the Gaelic witchcraft prophecy of the "Buidseachd" - pronounced "Bootchach" - a curse of ill omen.

On the morning after Fort William Library was opened alongside where the hanging tree had stood, staff claimed they came in to find the front door ajar, despite having locked it the previous night.

They claimed books, paintings and pot plants were strewn over the floor, empty toilets were flushing, and there were the sounds of canine snuffling noises, although there was no dog on the premises.

Meanwhile, an electric typewriter was working on its own but printing characters upside down. Staff were so frightened by this scene that they fled the building.

Where The Real Wild Things Are

riverjournal - by Lawrence Fury - The house in November sounded of winter. The wind blew outside in gales and gusts, some going over 30 miles an hour.

Inside, a young couple sat watching a rented movie. No cable hookups this far out of town on the Pack River Road and they couldn’t afford a satellite yet.

The young woman had always felt isolated out here on the property her new husband had inherited from his grandfather, but they couldn’t afford anything else as yet.

AS the movie ended, in an unsatisfactory way, Carl looked at his wife and pointed the remote at the VCR, hitting rewind. “What a piece of crap.”

“You rented it,” Becca responded and smirked.

Rewound, the machine turned off; the sound of the wind fell on them. Both used to living in town, they thought it eerie, the sounds of nature without human noise to go along with it.

Oh, there was civilization—after all, Buck and Edna’s was less than half a mile away and there was... well, actually, that was it for another couple of miles.

Turning the TV off, Carl headed to the bathroom as Becca went to turn the porch light off. Not that they expected visitors to just drop in this far out, but the light made her feel better for some reason.

She returned to the couch and flicked off the lamp with the only light coming from the kitchen/dining room. A scratching came from the outside wall around the front window. Just a branch moving in the wind, most likely. The scratching, however, seemed... well, as if something more substantial was behind the noise than just a branch. Besides, there wasn’t a tree close enough to be the culprit.

Carl emerged from the short hallway, the sound of the flushing toilet behind him. Glancing at her husband, Becca suddenly saw a startled expression come to his face. “What the hell?” he said. There was real fear in his voice. Becca turned to see what he was looking at.

There, just above the curtain that covered the bottom half of the old fashioned, two-paned window were two glowing red orbs. Or so Becca first interpreted the sight. As she continued looking, however, she realized they weren’t orbs, but eyes! Eyes that would have been more than seven feet off the ground to see in over the curtain.

Recovering from his initial shock, Carl turned, opened the nearby closet door, and withdrew a hunting rifle. Since they didn’t have any children as yet, he kept it loaded. He quickly moved a round into the chamber. “Hit the lights!” he yelled and ran to the door as Becca, her husband’s voice bringing her out of her initial shock, complied.

Carl ran to the door, hitting the porch light switch as he flung the door open. He quickly stepped out onto the small porch and swung the weapon to the right. Nothing was there. A moment later Becca joined him as they heard a movement from the edge of their maintained lawn as something large crashed through the perimeter brush.

After a long moment they looked at each other silently, an stepped back into the house.

Later, friends kidded them about seeing a Bigfoot. But what bear stood over seven feet tall an could peer in through a window? Then again, what ‘natural’ creature had glowing red eyes?

The legend, if not the reality, of Bigfoot has long since been a denizen of folklore dating back to the American Indian’s Sasquatch. There are other incarnations: The Wild Man of China, the Skunk Ape of the U.S. Deep South, and the most famous member of the family, the Yeti or the Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas.

The rational, scientific explanation is that these creatures are a remnant population of Giganthapithagus, a huge hominid whose fossilized bones have been found in many places; the bones indicate a creature ranging from seven to twelve feet tall. They were thought to have been less than a human, but more than an ape.

Could a small remnant population of these creatures have survived in several forms past the time of their supposed extinction thought to have been during the last ice age, 12,000 years ago?

About twelve years ago, a longtime friend of mine took me up to the Continental mine.

Abandoned in the late 1940s, the mine had extensive facilities, even a small hotel. But the vein of silver played out suddenly, making profiting from the mine unlikely after World War II.

The remnants fell into disrepair as the property went through a succession of owners. The final one I am aware of was an obscure, Seattle company.

When I was there with my friend, his son an two friends of his, the last of what was left of the mine was a machine house, rusting equipment and a rat-infested bunk house which we spent a couple of nights in—my friend’s idea of fun times.

Situated well north of upper Priest Lake and only about five miles south of the Canadian border, I would be hard pressed to imagine a more isolated part of North Idaho.

There was no encounter with the unexplained on my trip, though I didn’t relish the two hours I spent at the eerie site alone when my buddy and his other friend decided on a whim to venture through old mine tunnels a half mile from the mine while I had ridden my mountain bike.

My buddy’s next trip with other friends was more memorable. This time, having enough of the old rat-infested bunk house, my friend and these other guests chose to sleep in a tent nearby. During the night, my buddy heard the call of nature and trekked a few dozen yards into the brush to relieve himself.

Halfway through, he heard a growling in the darkness, a noise that did not sound at all familiar. Jeff and his family were loggers, and had spent a lot of time in the woods and knew the sounds of bears and other animals. This was completely new.

Pulling up his pants an departing in a hasty manner, he was sure that he was chased until within a few feet of his camp.

Next morning, he returned to the scene of his indisposition and, after a time, found a tuft of hair snagged in a tree. He sent this to the Department of Lands in Boise and, after a few months of silence, called, only to be informed that no such sample had arrived.

Final analysis, this attitude of government agencies seems to be dominant, as in a story I related last year: denial. Denial of anything beyond its control or understanding.

Vatican Scholar Claims 'Death Certificate' Imprinted on Shroud of Turin

timesonline - A Vatican scholar claims to have deciphered the "death certificate" imprinted on the Shroud of Turin, or Holy Shroud, a linen cloth revered by Christians and held by many to bear the image of the crucified Jesus.

Dr Barbara Frale, a researcher in the Vatican secret archives, said "I think I have managed to read the burial certificate of Jesus the Nazarene, or Jesus of Nazareth." She said that she had reconstructed it from fragments of Greek, Hebrew and Latin writing imprinted on the cloth together with the image of the crucified man.

The shroud, which is kept in the royal chapel of Turin Cathedral and is to be put in display next spring, is regarded by many scholars as a medieval forgery. A 1988 carbon dating of a fragment of the cloth dated it to the Middle Ages.

However Dr Frale, who is to publish her findings in a new book, La Sindone di Gesu Nazareno (The Shroud of Jesus of Nazareth) said that the inscription provided "historical date consistent with the Gospels account". The letters, barely visible to the naked eye, were first spotted during an examination of the shroud in 1978, and others have since come to light.

Some scholars have suggested that the writing is from a reliquary attached to the cloth in medieval times. But Dr Frale said that the text could not have been written by a medieval Christian because it did not refer to Jesus as Christ but as "the Nazarene". This would have been "heretical" in the Middle Ages since it defined Jesus as "only a man" rather than the Son of God.

Like the image of the man himself the letters are in reverse and only make sense in negative photographs. Dr Frale told La Repubblica that under Jewish burial practices current at the time of Christ in a Roman colony such as Palestine, a body buried after a death sentence could only be returned to the family after a year in a common grave.

A death certificate was therefore glued to the burial shroud to identify it for later retrieval, and was usually stuck to the cloth around the face. This had apparently been done in the case of Jesus even though he was buried not in a common grave but in the tomb offered by Joseph of Arimathea.

Dr Frale said that many of the letters were missing, with Jesus for example referred to as "(I)esou(s) Nnazarennos" and only the "iber" of "Tiberiou" surviving. Her reconstruction, however, suggested that the certificate read: "In the year 16 of the reign of the Emperor Tiberius Jesus the Nazarene, taken down in the early evening after having been condemned to death by a Roman judge because he was found guilty by a Hebrew authority, is hereby sent for burial with the obligation of being consigned to his family only after one full year". It ends "signed by" but the signature has not survived.

Dr Frale said that the use of three languages was consistent with the polyglot nature of a community of Greek-speaking Jews in a Roman colony. Best known for her studies of the Knights Templar, who she claims at one stage preserved the shroud, she said what she had deciphered was "the death sentence on a man called Jesus the Nazarene. If that man was also Christ the Son of God it is beyond my job to establish. I did not set out to demonstrate the truth of faith. I am a Catholic, but all my teachers have been atheists or agnostics, and the only believer among them was a Jew. I forced myself to work on this as I would have done on any other archaeological find."

The Catholic Church has never either endorsed the Turin Shroud or rejected it as inauthentic. Pope John Paul II arranged for public showings in 1998 and 2000, saying: "The Shroud is an image of God's love as well as of human sin. The imprint left by the tortured body of the Crucified One, which attests to the tremendous human capacity for causing pain and death to one's fellow man, stands as an icon of the suffering of the innocent in every age." Pope Benedict XVI is to pray before the Shroud when it is put on show again next Spring in Turin.
