Photos: The Stanley Hotel - Estes Park, Colorado - 9/13/08

NOTE: I received this photo taken during a ghost tour (September 13, 2008) at the infamous Stanley Hotel. You can go to the collection of photos from that tour S.P.O.O.K. (Scientific Paranormal Operation of Kansas)...Lon

Here is the information received:

I took this photo on September 13, 2008 at the Stanley Hotel. We were taking a ghost tour. I stopped at the bottom of the steps on the 2nd floor near Room 217 and looked up the stairwell. There was no one there that I could see. I snapped a few photos from my camera and continued the tour. This was about 2PM-3PM. A few days later, I came home and was going over the photos. I was very surprised and a little scared at what I saw in the photo.

I contacted a few professional photographers who validated that it wasn't photo shopped or retouched, but they couldn't give me much information on what they thought it was. One photographer did tell me that he thought it was a little boy, but I can't really see it that much.

Our clairvoyant/sensitive and photo tech 'SW' looked over the image and came to this conclusion:

"Hi Lon...This is very interesting. I had thought that only human spirits haunted the Stanley... "that" is not human. It reminds me of a gargoyle but it isn't. The Stanley Hotel is partially built into a mountain, or so I have heard. That "thing" came in from that point. I get the sense that is a "live creature".

In reference to 2 other photos taken at the Stanley Hotel, here is the response from 'SW':

"The photo of the face outside, is Chansonetta Stanley Emmons. She was the sister to F.O. and his twin brother Francis. I've included a picture that I found of her.

The parlor window photo is Flora Stanley, Mr. Stanley's wife (I know because I get the impression of a piano and flowers). She is present in most sightings, whereas Mr. Stanley tends to avoid being seen. I feel he prefers the great hall and private quarters."

Chansonetta Stanley Emmons - one of the first American female photographers. In 1883, the Stanley brothers invented the dry plate process which allowed faster photograph development, which they sold to Eastman Kodak for a fortune. Many of Chansonetta's photographs adorn the Stanley Hotel

THE STANLEY HOTEL

The Stanley Hotel is a 138-room Georgian hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Located within sight of the Rocky Mountain National Park, the Stanley offers panoramic views of the Rockies. It was built by Freelan O. Stanley of Stanley Steamer fame and opened on July 4, 1909, catering to the rich and famous. The hotel and its surrounding lands are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Stanley has hosted many famous guests, including the Titanic survivor Margaret Brown, John Philip Sousa, Theodore Roosevelt, the Emperor and Empress of Japan, and a variety of Hollywood personalities. The Stanley Hotel also hosted Stephen King, inspiring him to write The Shining. Contrary to information sometimes published King was living in Boulder at the time and did not actually write the novel at the hotel. Parts of the mini-series version of The Shining were filmed there, although it was not used for Stanley Kubrick's cinematic version.

Stephen King's stay at the Stanley Hotel was the inspiration behind his novel 'The Shining'. Stanley Kubrick directed the award-winning film starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. Contrary to popular belief, no scenes were filmed at the Stanley Hotel.

Many reports have come from the guests of the hotel that they had seen strange images and had unexplainable things happen to them. Some believe that F. O. Stanley haunts the hotel himself. He has been seen most often in the lobby and the Billiards room, which was his favorite room when he was alive. He has also been seen in the bar but quickly disappears before anyone can get a better look.

It is also believed that F.O.'s wife Flora haunts the hotel as well. When she was in the hotel, she used to entertain the guests by playing piano in the music room. Though there have been no actual sightings of her, the keys of the piano have been seen by several guests to be moving by themselves.

Guests have also reported hearing children playing in the hallway when no children were present, one couple even checking out because of the noise. Various employees have reported hearing voices when no one was around and seeing impressions in beds in rooms where no guests have stayed in for awhile. One guest claimed to have recorded a faded image of a man in a cowboy hat in his room, standing in front of the window. It lasted for a few minutes and then faded away. Another incident occurred where a guest attending her sister's wedding wrote "REDRUM" on a mirror with lipstick in her sister and her groom-to-be's room a joke. Later, as she was walking down the grand staircase to the lobby, she felt someone shove her and she fell down the stairs. After being helped up, she looked to see who shoved her, but no one was around to have done so.

Many strange events seem to take place in the Stanley Hotel for sure. Some are certainly less explainable than others. Why people believe they see the Stanleys has no reasonable explanation. Noises that guests and employees hear could be the creaking of heaters that they think might be ghosts, or the shifting of the pine wood that some of the hotel is made from. Voices that they hear could be echoing through the floors and walls from other rooms. That could account for the children that are heard as well. Or they could actually be children that hide when someone tells them to stop or keep it down. The guest who recorded the ghost wearing the cowboy hat would be more reliable if he showed this recording rather than say he did. And the girl who claimed to be shoved could very well have lied. After all, she was in the process of pulling a prank when it happened.

Video: Saucer Shaped UFO /OVNI - Principality of Asturias, Spain

NOTE: states the video was taken in the principality of Asturias, Northern Spain. It is a very convincing video though, too bad the contrast was not better. Seems to be a lot of evidence coming out of the Iberian peninsula lately. Does this indicate a new flap?...Lon

Japan's Next First Lady Claims Past-Life Relationship With Tom Cruise

A new public figure is all set to take over Belusconi’s title as the leader with the most outrageous remarks.

The figure in question is Miyuki Hatoyama, wife of Japan’s newly elected Prime Minister, who has stunned the world with her comments about UFO abduction and her past-life relationship with Tom Cruise.

Mrs Hatoyama, 66, claims that her spirit was whisked away to Venus 20 years ago while she was napping. She stated that this type of astral projection was done via a triangular UFO.

Unlike most X-Files abductees, this ex-dancer didn’t have any complaints about her alien kidnapping. In fact, she appeared impressed with the planet, especially its lush green tint.

Her claims about intra-planetary travel were revealed in the book ‘Very Strange Things I’ve Encountered’ which was published in 2008.

In addition to having unexpected tourist visits to Venus, Mrs Hatoyama has also indulged in nostalgic memories of her previous lives.

In fact, she believes that she was best buds with Last Samurai actor, Tom Cruise, in another lifetime.

“He was Japanese in his past life, and we were together so when I see him, I will say ‘Hi, it’s been a long time’ and he will immediately understand,” was what she said in a recent TV program.

This type of comment isn’t shocking when you consider Mrs Hatoyama’s unconventional lifestyle to date.

In her teen years, she was part of a daring female-only dance group, Takarazuka Revue, which was famous for its unusual takes on theatrical classics.

Furthermore, she was a divorcee when she married the much younger Yukio Hatoyama, which is somewhat controversial for a conservative Asian country.

In recent years, the outspoken First Lady has also revealed some startling dietary secrets.

“I eat the sun,” Miyuki says, raising her arms as if to tear pieces off an imaginary sun. “Like this: yum, yum, yum. It gives me enormous energy.”

Mr Hatoyama seems to inadvertently agree with this concept. Says he about his eccentric wife: “I feel relieved when I get home. She is like an energy-refueling base.”

Japan's Next First Lady Claims Close Encounter

reuters.com - Japan's next prime minister might be nicknamed "the alien," but it's his wife who claims to have had a close encounter with another world.

"While my body was asleep, I think my soul rode on a triangular-shaped UFO and went to Venus," Miyuki Hatoyama, the wife of premier-in-waiting Yukio Hatoyama, wrote in a book published last year.

"It was a very beautiful place and it was really green."

Yukio Hatoyama is due to be voted in as premier on September 16 following his party's crushing election victory over the long-ruling Liberal Democratic Party on Sunday.

Miyuki, 66, described the extraterrestrial experience, which she said took place some 20 years ago, in a book entitled "Very Strange Things I've Encountered."

When she awoke, Japan's next first lady wrote, she told her now ex-husband that she had just been to Venus. He advised her that it was probably just a dream.

"My current husband has a different way of thinking," she wrote. "He would surely say 'Oh, that's great'."

Yukio Hatoyama, 62, the rich grandson of a former prime minister, was once nicknamed "the alien" for his prominent eyes.

Miyuki, also known for her culinary skills, spent six years acting in the Takarazuka Revue, an all-female musical theater group. She met the U.S.-educated Yukio while living in America.

Haunted House May Be Spooked After All

qctimes.com - Mike Kennedy believes there is more to life after death.

Kennedy says he's noticed objects being moved when he's alone and saw his great-grandfather after the man died. And his experience working at Skellington Manor in downtown Rock Island to set up the animatronics that are part of the new haunted house there has only solidified his belief in the otherworldly.

He's heard women's voices whispering when the only woman in the building was in the room with him. And one night as he closed up the building, he saw an image that gave him the chills and made the hair stand up on the back of his neck.

"I was walking up the stairs and an apparition walked across the top of the stairs," he said. "It was just a faded white image. It looked like somebody that was in a dress."

Kennedy said the image disappeared into what was called the Women's Parlor when the building was owned by the Masons. The room's purpose is still signified above the door.

Multiple volunteers working to set up the haunted house have reported experiences similar to Kennedy's, so Skellington Manor owners Penni and Michael Steen, who used to own Terror in the Woods in rural Scott County, hired Brenda Bonay, the lead investigator with Mercer County Paranormal Investigators organization, to check things out.

Bonay got into the business of investigating paranormal activities after growing up in what she says was a haunted house in Wapello, Iowa. The family would hear the sounds of people running up and down the stairs when everyone was in the living room, and they often would find writing on the walls, even after her parents took all the crayons away from the children.

The first thing Bonay does on any case is to try to provide a plausible explanation for any seemingly ghostly activities. She's able to successfully debunk about 85 percent of the cases she receives, but she was not able to do so at Skellington Manor. Investigators say they witnessed a door opening by itself, picked up unexplained readings on an electromagnetic field detector and recorded what is known as electronic voice phenomenon, or voices that can't be heard with the ear but are picked up by recording devices.

Bonay asked questions such as: "Is anybody here that would like to say something?" and "Are you a man? Are you a woman?"

The recording picked up sounds of male and female voices, and, in one instance, she was able to make out the phrase, "Who's there?"

Bonay believes the building truly is haunted and that visitors to Terror at Skellington Manor just might experience a real ghost as they make their way through the haunted house filled with actors, props and spooky images.

"There's a very good chance, if they keep their eyes and ears open and use all five of their senses - their eyes, their smell, their touch, just an overall feeling, goosebumps - they're likely to experience something paranormal," said Bonay, who added that she has never felt threatened on her multiple visits to the building.

As for Kennedy, his experiences at Skellington Manor haven't scared him off.

"It's kind of neat to have a 'haunted house' in a real haunted place," he said. "So hopefully we don't disturb them too much, and if we do, hopefully they'll play with us."

Monster Conger Eel Caught Off British Coast

dailymail.co.uk - Caught off the British coast, the huge fish weighs a hefty 100lb (45kg) and is nearly twice as long as its new owner Matt Endacott.

And the fishmonger is offering to sell the entire eel for a giant supper until Saturday.

Fishmonger Matt bought the giant eel at market because it was the biggest he'd ever seen.

The average conger eel weighs just 5kg and is around 3ft.

This outstanding example was caught by sea fisherman Dean Corbett of Torquay, Devon, who sold it to Matt for £50.

Matt, of Jackson Ltd, Newton Abbot, Devon, is now asking if anyone will buy the giant eel whole before he cuts it into pieces.

He said: 'It is the biggest one I have ever seen.

'We had one a few years ago that was 8ft, but this is 10ft.

'It is a vast specimen and weighs 46kg gutted.

'Luckily we have large slab and can take a fish this size.

'Supermarkets have smaller slabs and would never be able to show it to the public.

'We will have it on a slab until Saturday afternoon and then will prep it up and sell it fresh and smoked.'

Conger eel is not a popular dish in the UK because they are an ugly fish - but Matt claims it is delicious.

He said: 'It is certainly underrated in the country as a product because it's a large, ugly and slimy looking beast.'

The largest conger eel caught in England was snared off Falmouth in Cornwall and weighed 210lb (95kg).

The world record is held in Iceland for an eel weighing 305lb (139kg).

The conger eel can be found all around the coast of Britain.

It favours wrecks, reefs and rough, rocky habitats.

During the night they tend to swim in shallower waters closer to the shore.

Despite its enormous size and aggressive appearance, the conger eel is a shy creature and hastily retreats to its lair when threatened.

Shocker: Ted Williams' Frozen Head Used For Batting Practice!

AP - Workers at an Arizona cryonics facility mutilated the frozen head of baseball legend Ted Williams - even using it for a bizarre batting practice, a new tell-all book claims.

In "Frozen," Larry Johnson, a former exec at the Alcor Life Extension Foundation in Scottsdale, Ariz., graphically describes how The Splendid Splinter" was beheaded, his head frozen and repeatedly abused.

The book, out Tuesday from Vanguard Press, tells how Williams' corpse became "Alcorian A-1949" at the facility, where bodies are kept suspended in liquid nitrogen in case future generations learn how to revive them.

Johnson writes that in July 2002, shortly after the Red Sox slugger died at age 83, technicians with no medical certification gleefully photographed and used crude equipment to decapitate the majors' last .400 hitter.

Williams' severed head was then frozen, and even used for batting practice by a technician trying to dislodge it from a tuna fish can.

The chief operating officer of Alcor for eight months before becoming a whistleblower in 2003, Johnson wrote his book while in hiding, fearful for his life.

He told the Daily News then he had received death threats and was moving from safehouse to safehouse. Johnson plans to come out of the shadows Tuesday, with his book and an appearance on ABC's "Nightline."

Johnson said he wired himself with an audio recorder for his last three months at Alcor, stole internal records and took gruesome photographs that are reproduced in the book.

The book describes other atrocities at Alcor's facility in Arizona, including the dismembering of live dogs that were injected with chemicals in experiments, and a situation in which human blood and toxic chemicals were dumped into a parking lot sewer drain.

It also also details suspicious circumstances involving the bodies of two people who are frozen in steel cylinders at Alcor: gay rights activist John Dentinger and Dora Kent, an elderly woman whose son, Saul Dent, gave Alcor lots of money.

Nothing in the book is as gruesome as Johnson's descriptions of what happened to Williams' body after it was sent to Alcor at the direction of the Williams' son John Henry Williams, who died of leukemia in 2004.

In 2003, The News reported that Buzz Hamon, the ballplayer's close friend and former director of the Ted Williams Museum in Hernando, Fla., sneaked into Alcor with the help of a mortician friend.

Hamon said he was "appalled" by the conditions there, where Williams' body and more than 50 others were stored in steel tanks alongside cardboard boxes and junk. Hamon died in 2004, reportedly committing suicide.

Video: Chilean Military Encounters UFOs / OVNIs

Click for video

NOTE: this video was supposedly released by the Chilean government in the summer of 2008 and was presented and commented on a television program with former Iberian Airlines Flight Commander Juan Ignacio Lorenzo Torres. Torres and his flight crew are known for reporting a famous UFO sighting November 4, 1968. Below is a recent interview of his experience in 1968 (both Spanish and English posted)...Lon:

-¿Por qué ahora se empeña en recordar aquellas luces? Why now strive to remember those lights?

-Creo que a mucha gente le gustará saber que mi tripulación y yo vimos algo que todavía nadie me ha sabido explicar. "I think many people will be pleased to know that my crew and I saw something that nobody has yet managed to explain.

-¿Cuándo? - When?

-Era el 4 de noviembre de 1968 a las 18 horas y 23 minutos. "It was on 4 November 1968 to 18 hours and 23 minutes.

-¿Dónde? - Where?

-En la vertical de Sagunto, Valencia. "In the vertical de Sagunto, Valencia. Yo era el comandante de un Caravelle 6-R, un aparato muy moderno entonces, que cubría el vuelo de Iberia IB 249 Londres-Alicante. I was the commander of a Caravelle 6-R, a very modern device then covering the IB Iberia flight 249 London-Alicante. No hubo ninguna incidencia hasta que nos acercamos a Barcelona. There was no impact until we go to Barcelona. A unas 100 millas, el control de Barcelona nos ordenó abandonar el nivel 310 -31.000 pies- y que descendiéramos al nivel 280. About 100 miles, the control of Barcelona we ordered off the 310 -31,000-foot level and descend into level 280.

-¿Por qué? - Why?

-Venía un British Caledonia en sentido opuesto. "He was a British Caledonian in the opposite direction. Así que nos ordenaron descender para evitar la posibilidad de colisión. So we were ordered down to avoid the possibility of collision.

-¿Y...? - Y. ..?

-Bueno, yo había ordenado la cena y teníamos las bandejas ya en cabina, pero a ese nivel estábamos en las barbas de las nubes que producen una turbulencia ligera, aunque incómoda. "Well, I ordered dinner and had the trays and in the cabin, but at this level were in the beard of clouds that produce light turbulence, although uncomfortable. Era desagradable cenar así. It was unpleasant and dinner. Pedí al segundo piloto que alertara la vigilancia exterior para ver si veía el tráfico opuesto y podíamos volver así a nuestro nivel para cenar tranquilos. I asked the second driver to alert the outside monitoring to see if traffic was opposed and could thus return to our quiet dining level.

-¿Lo vio? - Did you see?

-Creíamos que sí. "We thought so. Dijo: "Ya lo tengo a la vista", pero lo que vimos entonces fue un fogonazo y una luz que venía contra nosotros a una velocidad impresionante. He said: "I've got the light" but what we saw then was a flash and a light coming at us at breakneck speed.

-¿Susto? - Fright?

-Y miedo. "And fear. Aquello venía a rumbo de colisión. That came a collision course.

-¿Qué hicieron? - What did they do?

-Tiramos las bandejas y nos quedamos boquiabiertos mirando aquella luz cegadora que no era nada habitual. "We pull the trays and stood agape watching that blinding light that was not usual. Llamamos a la azafata para que mirara también aquello. We call the hostess to also look at that. Ninguno de nosotros sabíamos qué podía ser. None of us knew what it was.

-¿Qué hizo la luz? - What did the light?

-Se quedó a 10 metros del morro de mi avión. He stood 10 meters from the nose of my plane. Subía y bajaba y se movía a derecha e izquierda, pero siempre volvía allí, a 10 metros del morro de mi avión. Up and down and moving left and right, but always returned there, 10 meters from the nose of my plane.

-¿No llamó al control de Barcelona? - Do not call the control of Barcelona?

-Bueno, no era tan fácil. "Well, was not so easy. ¿Qué podía decir? What could I say? Todos tenemos sentido del ridículo. Intenté hablar con el objeto en inglés y en español. We all sense of the ridiculous. I tried to speak to the subject in English and Spanish. Después llamé al control, al VOR de Barcelona, y pregunté si había tráfico en la zona. Then I called the control, the VOR in Barcelona and asked if there was traffic in the area. Me dijeron que su cobertura de radar sólo alcanzaba 60 millas. I was told that radar coverage reached only 60 miles.

-¿Y qué hizo usted entonces? - What did you do?

-Llamé por el canal de emergencia 121.5 para que todas las aeronaves que pudieran estar cerca se comunicaran con nosotros. "I called the emergency channel 121.5 for all aircraft that may be close to communicate with us.

-¿Y después? - What then?

-Todos mirábamos las luces. "Everyone looked at the lights. Había una luz grande y dos pequeñitas a los lados. There was one large and two tiny light at the sides. Intenté establecer un código primario de comunicación con mis luces de aterrizaje. I tried to establish a primary code of communication with my landing lights. Dije en español: "Enciendo y apago dos veces es no; enciendo y apago una vez es sí". I said in Spanish: "Turns on and off twice is not, on and off again is yes."

-¿Y se entendieron ustedes? - What you got on?

-Yo creo que sí. "I think so. Les hice varias preguntas, entre otras: "¿son amigos o enemigos?". I made several questions, including: "Are they friends or enemies?".

-¿Qué respondieron? - How do you respond?

-Había lógica en sus movimientos. There was logic to their movements.

-¿Cuánto tiempo duró el avistamiento? - How long did the sighting?

-Algo más de diez minutos. "A little over ten minutes.

-Eso es mucho tiempo. "That's a long time.

-Sí. "Yes.

-¿Qué hizo usted al aterrizar? - What did you do on landing?

-Aquella noche todos dormimos mal, como me dijo mi tripulación al día siguiente. "That night we all slept badly, as my crew told me the next day. Todos hicimos un pacto de silencio, pero el jefe del control de Barcelona, el teniente coronel Aleu, me llamó al aterrizar en El Prat y me dijo que la cobertura de radar del este español había registrado esos OVNIS. All made a pact of silence, but the control Barcelona boss, Lt. Col. Aleu, I called on landing at El Prat and told me that radar coverage of the Spanish had recorded these UFOs. Le pedí una copia de estos registros y me la dio. I ordered a copy of those records and give me one.

-¿Tiene esa copia? - Do you have that copy?

-No, porque, cuatro meses después, otro Caravelle pilotado por el comandante Ordovás hizo otro avistamiento en la misma zona... "No, because, four months later, another Caravelle piloted by Commander Ordovás made another sighting in the same area ... ¡viajando con el mismo ingeniero de vuelo, José Cuenca! Traveling on the same flight engineer, Jose Cuenca! La noticia trascendió porque la azafata de aquel vuelo tenía un novio periodista. The news went beyond that because the flight attendant had a boyfriend journalist.

-Y se difundió el rumor. "And the rumor spread.

-Sí. Me empezaron a llamar los periodistas ya los cuatro meses se presentaron en mi casa el teniente coronel Ugarte y un jurídico y me requisaron aquella copia. "Yes. I started calling journalists and four months in my house were presented Lt. Col. Ugarte and legal and seized me that copy.

-Vaya. "Wow.

-Después de instruir la causa del avistamiento, el teniente coronel Ugarte concluyó que lo que habíamos visto mi copiloto, el ingeniero, la azafata y yo era... "After instructing the cause of the sighting, Lt. Col. Ugarte concluded that what we had seen my co-pilot, engineer, flight attendant and I was ... Venus. Venus.

-¿Venus? - Venus?

-Sí, Venus. "Yes, Venus. ¡Había tenido a Venus pegado al morro de mi avión! Venus had had stuck to the nose of my plane! ¡Y yo sin enterarme! And me without knowing!

-¿Por qué dijeron eso? - Why did they say that?

-Supongo que en su cultura militar es muy embarazoso no encontrar una explicación a algo: Venus era una solución como otra cualquiera. "I suppose in military culture is very embarrassing not find an explanation for something: Venus was a solution as any.

-¿Y usted qué cree? - What do you think?

-Yo creo que pudo ser -¿por qué no?- una nave o lo que fuera de otros seres vivos extraterrestres. "I think it might be - why not? - A ship or whatever other extraterrestrial beings. Cuando la inteligencia militar desclasificó los documentos del avistamiento eché en falta en ellos los registros de los radares. When the military intelligence declassified documents needed watching them lay down on the radar records. El teniente coronel Aleu me dijo que los radares habían registrado tres OVNIS. Lt. Col. Aleu told me that the radar had registered three UFOs.

-¿Cree usted en ellos? - Do you believe in them?

-Creo que aquel día vimos algo de otra cultura no terrestre. "I think that day we saw something of another culture land.

-¿Tiene algún otro dato? - Do you have any information?

-Daría lo mismo. "Might as well. Los que mandan negarán lo que ven antes de aceptar que no pueden explicarlo ni controlarlo. The powers that be deny what they see before accepting that they can not explain or control it. Y, desde luego, ¡no era Venus! And, of course, was not Venus!

Photos: Are These Really Extraterrestrials?

Ron S. Stewart, an inventor and imaging scientist, took these photographs on Texas Hwy 59 near Wharton, TX in the late summer of 2005. The camera used was a Fujica model ST-605 35 mm-camera using SLR type film and a Hanimex 200 mm telephoto lens. Ron's work will be displayed at the 19th Annual International UFO Congress Convention & Film Festival, Saturday February 27, 2010 at 8:30 am to 11:45 am at the Aquarius Resort in Laughlin, Nevada.

The images were produced by APEP, (Advanced Photographic Extraction Process).

Strange Noises Investigated at Ellicott City, MD Museum

explorehoward.com - Karen Griffith is not the type to spook easily.

As curator of the Howard County Historical Museum, in a former church dating back to the 1800s, she knows the sounds and sensations a building steeped in decades of history can make.

Creaking wooden floors.

Random knocks and pings.

Unexpected drafts blowing coolness past her.

But footsteps when she's in the building alone, after closing time?

"That was a little unnerving," she says. "And I have had other people hear it too, so I know I am not hallucinating."

Griffith says she was working in her office in the basement of the museum when she heard footsteps on the floor above.

She went upstairs to investigate and saw no one.

It has happened periodically in the three years the Dorsey Hall resident has been working at the museum on Court Avenue, in Historic Ellicott City.

"I have never felt afraid, really. But I will hear a strange noise now and then and It surprises me more than it scares me. I still hear the footsteps now and then," she says. "I don't like to be the last one around to close up."

By chance, Griffith was approached by Colin McGuinn, an investigator for the Greater Maryland Paranormal Society and a frequent visitor to the museum, which fosters his love for history and his native Howard County.

"Colin asked if I would be willing to have the group come in to do an investigation," Griffith says. "I said, 'Sure, why not?' "

In the last year, the museum was also visited by investigators from the DC Metro Area Ghost Watchers and a Baltimore-based paranormal investigation team.

The former had "a few subjective experiences, but little objective findings to report at this time," according to its Web site. The latter team's investigation results were still being reviewed, Griffith said.

The waiting game

On Sept. 25, a crisp fall Friday night, complete with a bright moon above, a dozen members of the Greater Maryland Paranormal Society, arrived about 8 p.m. at the church to set up nearly $5,000 worth of audio and video recording equipment, and to sit and wait in the dark.

And wait.

And wait.

Amid the show and tell that make up the exhibits of the county's history, wires snaked from bell tower to basement, cameras were installed into corners, duct tape was plentiful and batteries charged. Rubbermaid bin after Rubbermaid bin of equipment was set up by a skilled team of technicians. A 36-pack of Duracell batteries is on hand for use in eight digital voice recorders.

"This is the part they don't show you on TV," says McGuinn, referring to the popular "Ghost Hunters" cable TV show that chronicles the investigations of The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS).

"Can you tell me about the pipes in the building? Any smells? Anything unusual?" Elyse Caudill asks Griffith, reading off a questionnaire used at the onset of each investigation.

Griffith says there are times when the printer in her office will turn on and off on its own.

Around 9:30 p.m., GMPS founder Bill Hartley relays the lingo of 'lights out.'

"We're dark," he calls into walkie-talkies that bring his voice to GMPS members positioned throughout the building. One team of investigators sits on the sooty floor of the boiler room basement, another sits in a former Sunday school room on the first floor and another sits amid the wooden pews of the church's worship area.

For 15 minutes, everyone sits in silence, including Griffith, the curator, who takes a seat in the former bell tower entrance.

Then the questions from investigators begin.

"If you are here in this room, can you give us a sign?" asks an investigator in the dark, encouraging any spirit in the room to walk toward an instrument used in their investigations called a K-2, which will change the machine's green light to a different color if an electronic field is sensed.

Cathy Yeakel has been a part of GMPS since the group began three years ago.

"I've always been curious about the other side," says Yeakel, of Glen Burnie, who works for an environmental consulting firm. "For me, I like to be able to rule things out."

Fear cage

McGuinn says earlier readings with an EMF detector (electromagnetic field) "were off the chart" in Griffith's basement office in the fluorescent lights above her desk. Not uncommon in an office setting, he says, but such a reading is indicative of a "fear cage," which can cause one to feel dizzy or nauseous in the workplace.

In the dark office on the night of the investigation, McGuinn places a small flashlight on the ground in the middle of the room.

"You are more than welcome to turn it on," he says, speaking to any spirit that may be listening. "Can you let us know you are here by turning the flashlight on?"

The flashlight remains off.

"Ninety-eight percent of the time this is what it is like, you sit around and nothing happens," McGuinn says, noting most paranormal investigators, including GMPS, set out to debunk theories rather than to prove them.

In the basement boiler room, investigator Lori Bruther is asking questions, too.

"Did you go to Sunday school here?" she asks. "How old are you? Do you feel threatened by having me here? I really would love if you could come toward the green light. We are all your friends."

By 10:30 the teams are ready for a smoke break and to stretch their legs. They file out of the church and talk of investigations of the past in North Carolina, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

"This is one thing you never see on the TV shows, all the down time," says Hartley, the founder of the group.

After the break, Bruther's team sits in the former Sunday school room, but the only activity they hear is the noise coming from Main Street, where the Judge's Bench is hosting a live band and noisy patrons on the sidewalk.

Meanwhile, in the worship area sitting on a pew, Hartley and Caudill attempt to get spirits to communicate with them using divining rods. As they take turns asking questions and holding the metal rods, the rods twist and turn, dimly lit by the portable flashlight that glows green from an earpiece on Hartley's ear.

"I am not moving them, I am just holding the handles," Hartley explains.

"Is it cool? Yes," Caudill adds, referring to using the divining rods. "Is it evidence? No."

By 1 a.m. investigators are ready to call it quits.

By Oct. 1, the hours of footage and digital recordings were reviewed and no paranormal activity was discovered, according to McGuinn.

Nevertheless, Hartley ruled the night a success, ghost or no ghost.

"Everybody did their job and had fun," he said.

NOTE: I live only 20 mins. from this location (former First Presbyterian Church) in Ellicott City, MD and actually conducted an investigation there in 1980 (at the request of the church caretaker). Some of my most interesting investigations, other than Gettysburg/South Central PA, were centered at historical locations in the Patapsco River Valley...example: The Woman of Gray's Mill...Lon

Chris Holly: Do Guardian Angels Leave Us Signs?

Often I have listened to those who believe in the power of angels, guides and spiritual powers giving us signs when we ask for help, answers or guidance.

I have heard stories of people seeing certain birds or flowers, words or hearing sounds as a sign that those they are speaking to in different realms or dimensions hear them. I know that people exchange certain words with loved ones to use with mediums to those who have passed over to the other side.

I have known all my life that those who pray often ask to be shown a sign that they are heard or that things will be OK. I can recall my own family members asking to be given a sign that we would survive a family crisis or for a loved one to make it past a serious health issue.

I realize that this goes on all the time with people all over the world but I really did not see it happen first hand until just recently. I am beginning to think if you live long enough and pay attention to the world and people around you -eventually you will experience many things that others seem to miss. I am grateful for all my experiences and will now add this one to those I can only categorize as unknown.

I belong to a large Irish family. One of my relatives is a very spiritual woman who spends a great deal of time talking to and praying to her creator and her angels. She is strong in her relationship with those who guide her and truly feels heard and helped when she reaches out for the help of her spiritual guides.

Another member of our family was seriously ill and due to have a dangerous difficult operation. Everyone was concerned for this family member. .

A day or so before the surgery was to take place a few of my brothers and sisters along with three cousins and two aunts all went to lunch together. We were in the habit of doing this often as it was a easy way to keep the family news flowing with so many of us spread out with large families of our own.

During this lunch visit my spiritual relative told us she had been praying for our family member who was about to have his extremely dangerous operation. She told us we all had to join hands and ask those who help and guide us to look out for him as he was still needed by his family and losing him would be a tremendous tragedy. We joined hands and prayed as a family. Just before ending the request for help given out to the universe and those who look over us our spiritual relative added “ And please give us a sign today that you have heard our request and that you are there looking over our family”.

We all whispered amen and began to look over our menus to order lunch. As we sat talking about what to eat one of my brothers was nagging at another one to move out of his way from the table, as he wanted to get something out of his car. We all shoved around to let my one brother make his way from the table. He had been sitting against a wall. When he finally got free of the table and walked away his chair was left empty exposing the wall behind him. The rest of us remained glued to our menus until a cousin sitting facing the spot my brother had just moved from blurted out “Oh good God – I don’t believe it”. We all looked at her and followed her eyes, which were round stunned and looking at the spot where my brother had been sitting against the wall. There on the wall behind where my brother had been sitting was an 8x10 photo stuck on the wall of two people sitting at a picnic table. As soon as I looked at it I also murmured a loud “Oh my God!”

The rest of my family all looked closely at what we were looking at and the Oh my Gods followed around the table. We all sort of sat there a bit stunned for a few seconds. With that my brother who had gone out to his car returned and stood looking at us looking at the wall. He took a look and gave a startled loud “OH MY GOD”, of his own.

There on the wall was a picture of two people sitting at a picnic table who looked exactly like our grandparents. At first we were sure it was them. We took down the picture to examine it. It took us a few minutes to figure out if it was or wasn’t our grandmother and grandfather. The people looked exactly like our grandparents. It was simply incredible.

My spiritual relative then stood up and said “ That’s our sign- everything is going to be OK for us all for awhile” She took the photo in her hands and said to the couple in the picture “Thanks Nana and Pop- we knew you were watching over us” She then looked at us all and said, “Any questions from any of you doubting Thomas’s? We all just sort of sat there a bit shocked at the entire scenario.

Our grandparents had doubles. Exact doubles that happened to also be married to each other as our grandparents were. They also somehow just so happened to have a photo of them stuck on the wall where we were just praying to those who looked over us.

We searched the rest of the walls in the restaurant and did not find one other photo of anyone anywhere. Only that one photo was stuck on the wall behind my brother’s chair.

We took the photo with us and went back to my oldest siblings house that kept all the family photos in her attic. We wanted to check our own memories and find some old photos of our grandparents to compare to the one we found on the wall in the restaurant.

This is the really incredible part of the story in my eyes. Not only did we find a box filled with photo’s of our grandparents. We found an 8x10 of our grandparents sitting at a picnic table exactly like the couple from the restaurant. When we held both pictures side by side- they were almost identical. The people in the picture found at our table in the restaurant were doubles of our grandparents without question.

Now I know many will simply mark this up to coincidence. For me, well I gave up on chalking up lots of things to coincidence and lean more towards reason. I believe things happen as they are suppose to and that this event happened so we would know things for our family at this point in time were going to be OK.

Our sick relative recovered from his delicate surgery and he is doing well. In fact the entire family is doing well right now. I think about my grandparents and know that they were kind loving caring people who were a gift to us all. I think they heard us that day and maybe even had lunch with us at our table leaving us a sign- things would be OK.

Take from our encounter with this strange event what you will. For this woman and her family it gave us comfort, love and the knowledge that praying or asking the universe to help you or look over those you love in life works. I often talk to those who may guide me and look over me. I will also never doubt those who tell me they were given a sign or dismiss the fact that they were heard.

Remember; although our loved ones have crossed over they also may be watching us finish our tour of duty here on the big blue ball of life! I have given up my doubting Thomas status and will admit- I am a believer!

NASA/Harvard Teams: Discovery of Real Earth-Like Planet Imminent

dailygalaxy.com - by Luke McKinney - To date, Planet hunters have spotted more than 300 planets beyond our solar system, but the vast majority are hot, Jupiter-sized planets that would dwarf the Earth and are almost certainly lifeless.

A few weeks ago, the first rocky planet was found outside solar system, but the surface temperature is far too hot to sustain life. The planet, called CoRoT-7b, is the first planet beyond our solar system with a proven density similar to Earth's, astronomers say. Most known exoplanets are large gas giants like Jupiter.

The tiny planet was discovered orbiting a star slightly smaller and cooler than our sun, about 500 light-years away. As the planet passed in front of its star, it eclipsed a small portion of the star's light, causing a dip in brightness.

Astronomers may be on the brink of discovering a second Earth-like planet, a find that would add fresh impetus to the search for extraterrestrial life. Astronomers from six major centers, including NASA, Harvard and the University of Colorado, agreed at a conference last year that advances in technology suggest scientists are on the verge of being able to detect the presence of small, rocky planets, much like our own, around distant stars for the first time. The planets are considered the most likely habitats for extraterrestrial life.

Finding a rocky planet with an Earth-like density brings us one step closer to discovering another planet similar to our own. A twin-Earth beyond the solar system could provide the best chance of finding life elsewhere in the universe.

The majority of the atoms in our bodies were created in the Big Bang 15 billion years ago. Most of the mass in our bodies are oxygen atoms that were created by generations of stars that preceded the formation of our Sun. We are a subset of the physical universe. And through astronomy this negligible subset is slowly acquiring -however limited- an awareness of the total universe that created it.

The great thing about outer space? It's absolutely full of fantastic stuff just waiting for us to be able to see it: every time we improve our observations, either the equipment or analysis, something new and brilliant jumps out of the universe saying "Here I am!" Now fans of interplanetary ideas have been rewarded with the very first rocky planet outside the Solar System.
Everything we've seen previously has been some Jupiter-like gas giant, a huge ball of not-solid-stuff-like-Earth that's still interesting but - since we don't imagine meeting alien clouds very much - not as exciting. But it isn't the case that space only features balls of gas, it's just that our technology couldn't see anything smaller. Until now.

A collaboration between the COROT and HARPS systems has detected a rocky expolanet five hundred light years away, a small stone ball less than twice the diameter and about five times the mass of Earth - giving it the same density as our place. Don't imagine any aliens just yet though (or if you do, make them pretty heat resistant) - it orbits only 2.5 million kilometers from its star, sixteen times closer than even Mercury gets. The expolanet's "year" is thus shorter than our day - meaning that even if there is an asbestos-based civilization their economy is utterly devastated by birthdays.

COROT is the COnvection ROtation and planetary Transit satellite, scanning thousands of stars to see the tiny dips in brightness caused by planets. HARPS is the High Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher, a super-sensitive spectrograph installed on a Chilean telescope to accurately identify how fast a wavelength source moves. Between them, they were able to identify the location of the planet and work out it's orbital radius and speed, thereby working out the mass and size. And with names like that, they probably combine to form Voltron's big brother.

It's awesome stuff for scientists. Yet another example of how we'll never be bored, how the universe is simply stuffed with things waiting for us to detect them.

Paranormal Group Seeks R.M.S. Titanic EVPs

NOTE: A group called "The Titanic Endeavor Tour" is seeking sponsorship to the site of the sunken oceanliner in an attempt to record voices of the dead spirits that may remain...Lon

The Titanic Endeavor Tour is Seeking Sponsors

Statement: The Titanic Endeavor Tour...a project being undertaken by Society of the D.E.A.D. (Direct Evidence After Death) is an ambitious project that...if successful...will bring back the first recorded evp's...(Electronic Voice Phenomenon) from the location where the RMS Titanic sank those many years ago back in April of 1912.

With a bit of luck and plenty of dedication, we may even bring back evidence beyond the level of evp's. An expedition to this location for the purpose of paranormal research has never been done...or even attempted. The expedition will take place on April 14/15 of 2010.

There will be more than paranormal research being conducted while we are on this site though. As you are no doubt aware, the Titanic's condition is degrading rapidly.

We plan to take a side scan sonar image of the vessel so that we may determine her current condition. Rust colonies are consuming this grand old lady at the rate of 240 pounds per day.

At some point within the next few decades her hull will no doubt cave in upon itself. That will be a sad day for a vessel that has stood proud on the ocean floor for nearly a century.

Her history has been one that has touched each and everyone of us. We wish to preserve this history as best we can and to create a sonar image that will aid in her future.

This expedition will not include diving on the site. The research that we intend to do can be done on the surface with the exception of a few underwater microphones that we intend to lower down a few hundred feet.

Respect is of paramount concern to us which is why we will be conducting a memorial service as well. Prior to leaving the site we will be placing 1533 white roses into the water. One for each victim.

Generating the funding for this project is slow going but it is coming together though. We are currently in negotiations to sell the film rights for the documentary that we will be filming during this investigation entitled "Titanic...You Know Their History...Now Hear Their Voices".

This may not be enough to insure the needed funds to will this project into reality though. We are asking you to attach your name to this project by becoming a sponsor.

There are many ways to do this. You can simply purchase one of the white roses that we will place in the water as a tribute...roses cost five dollars each...or you can simply become a contributor by making a donation to this expedition.

All sponsers will have their name and or business or media venue forever attached to this project. As project leader...you have my word that you will be listed in the end credits of the documentary...all literature that we release and the book that I will be releasing of the same title after the project has been completed. I will also send you a letter written in my own hand to thank you for aiding us with this project.

We are going to make paranormal history...join us in this venture. Thank you for taking the time to read this bulletin and help us bring the science to you and the world.

Pub Owner Accuses Resident Spirit Of Topping Off Pints

dailymail.co.uk - A pub landlady is calling in an exorcist to get read of a ghost which she claims is topping up regulars' pints.

Janice McCormack says the spirit is costing her a fortune as it tops up beers.

Mrs McCormack, 60, said: 'I know it sounds very strange. But it happens when customers pop to the toilet or put their pint down for a second or two, and when they turn around there is an extra inch of beer.'

She has nicknamed the ghost 'Reedy' after legendary actor and drinker Oliver Reed and said he has been haunting the Apsley House in Southsea, Hampshire, after she took over the lease ten years ago.

Since January the generous ghoul has been mysteriously re-fuelling regulars' glasses.

Mrs McCormack, who runs the pub with husband Patrick, said: 'My regulars love it but it is costing me because people are drinking less.

'We are getting more people through the door but it seems to be people expecting a cheap, never-ending pint.

'It is all a bit strange and it is driving me round the bend a bit. It makes stock take an absolute nightmare.'

To the disappointment of thrifty drinkers, she now plans to hold a seance to ask the poltergeist to quit, and if that fails, she will seek an exorcist to get him out.

Regular John Sanders, 27, said: 'I will certainly miss old Reedy because he always keeps me topped up.

'It is a novelty but if the pub is going to lose money then perhaps he'll have to move to a different one.

'You were always guaranteed a hangover when you drank in the Apsley - and you'd always have money left in your pocket for a kebab on the way home.'

The Apsley was formally a Victorian girls school before being used by city councillors as their offices and was turned into a pub in the 1960s.

CFZ Releases Orang-Pendek Footprint Photo

thesun.co.uk - Brit explorers claim they have spotted a legendary ape man believed to inhabit an island jungle — and snapped its footprints.

The four-strong team and their Indonesian guide were tracking through dense jungle in Sumatra when two of them caught a glimpse of the famous Orang Pendek — or short man.

The group brought back a hair sample and a piece of chewed palm from the island's Kerinci National Park they hope will provide DNA evidence of the beast.

They also snapped a strange footprint thought to belong to the creature.

Sightings of the hairy human-like monster have been made in the area since colonial times — and it is alleged to be immensely powerful.

The explorers hope the sample of rattan palm, which is thought to have been munched on by the Orang Pendek, will contain some of its cells. The palm and hair sample have been sent for testing.

Elusive

Witnesses have described the beast as being about 5ft tall and say that it walks on two legs.

It is thought to be extremely powerful — with reports of onlookers seeing it ripping apart logs.

After a spate of sightings around Lake Gunung Tuju, in the Kerinci national park, a team from the Devon based Centre for Fortean Zoology — which investigates unknown species of animals — embarked on a two-week mission to the region to see if they could obtain evidence of the creature.

The elusive Orang Pendek shares its habitat with the Sumatran Tiger, pythons, and Saltwater crocodiles.

Richard Freeman, the expedition zoologist and zoological director at the Centre for Fortean Zoology, said he believes the creature is an unidentified species of ape.

"We are not talking about a unicorn or a griffin, we are talking about an ape that's unknown to science," he said.

"It's name means 'short man' in Indonesian.

"It's supposed to be a powerfully built upright walking ape.

"It walks on two legs rather than four - like a man, about five foot tall with dark fur - immensely strong.

"It's been seen since colonial times.

"It's quite possible that in some museum there are skull and bones of the Orang Pendek that have been labelled orangutan."

The team, who have just returned from their two-week expedition, hailed it a success and are awaiting the results of the DNA tests.

Photos: What Was 'The Dartmoor Demon'?

In the summer of 2007, a strange creature was photographed on the Hound Tor near Dartmoor, Devonshire. Since that time, there have been no reported sightings. There have been tales of the 'Dartmoor Beast' and 'Beast of Exmoor', a supposed big cats that roamed the area. A cat-like animal was videotaped in May 2008 (below). This latest sighting was of something no one could could identify. What was the 'Dartmoor Demon'?...Lon

Legend has it that a four-legged fiend with glowing eyes and a blood-curdling howl stalks this very spot.

Which makes these pictures of a mystery creature taken near Hound Tor on Dartmoor more intriguing than ever.

Seen only yards away from a party of schoolchildren, the animal has a thick, shaggy coat, rounded ears and large front limbs which would be powerful enough to tear human flesh.

Some say it is a wild dog or cat. More fanciful theories include wolverine or bear.

Whatever its identity, the Beast of Dartmoor is giving some farmers sleepless nights because they fear it will prey on their stock.

Falconer Martin Whitley, who photographed the creature, said: "It was walking along a path about 200 yards away from me.

"It was black and grey and comparable in size to a miniature pony. It had very thick shoulders, a long, thick tail with a blunt end and small round ears.

"Its movements appeared feline, then bear-like sprang to mind. There was a party climbing on the tor opposite making a racket but it ignored them completely."

A pack of spectral dogs known as the Whist Hounds or Hounds of Hell is said to roam the area according to local folklore, which inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to write the Sherlock Holmes mystery The Hound of the Baskervilles.

The author is said to have been inspired by the legend of Squire Richard Cabell, a keen hunter from Brook Manor, Buckfastleigh.

The squire was rumoured to have sold his soul to the Devil and after he died on July 5, 1677, a phantom pack of black hunting dogs with glowing red eyes is said to have raced across Dartmoor on the night of his interment, breathing fire and howling at his tomb.

According to local legend, the demonic hounds have roamed the moor ever since and can often be seen around the anniversary of his death prowling around the grave trying to get the promised soul for the Devil.

The founder of the national research network Big Cats in Britain, Mark Fraser, said: "It looks like a wolverine or a bear in some shots and a big wild dog in others. It is a very strange animal."

Mr Whitley is adamant that the creature is not a wild dog.

He added: "I have worked with dogs all my life and it was definitely not that.

"I have seen a collie-sized black cat in the area about ten years ago and it was not that - this was a lot bigger.

"You would be surprised at the number of people who have seen black big cats and something resembling a small bear in the area over the course of the years."

Disappointingly for those who possess a vivid imagination, the most likely explanation yesterday was that the Beast is nothing more supernatural than a large and hairy wild boar.

North Devon farmer Al Dedames lost more than 100 of his stock of boar in December 2005 when animal rights activists raided his farm and destroyed fencing.

Since then, more than half are thought to have died in road traffic accidents or been shot by farmers or hunters.

But those which survived have bred and up to 175 are said to be roaming the wilds of Devon and Somerset.

Mystery Surrounds Dartmoor Photo

bbc.co.uk - A photograph of an animal taken on Dartmoor is "almost certainly" not a big cat, according to a local expert.

The picture was taken by falconer Martin Whitley, who stumbled across the creature by accident near Hound Tor.

The area inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Hound of the Baskervilles, but Mr Whitley said there was "definitely nothing supernatural" about the animal.

But Danny Bamping, founder of the British Big Cats Society, said he "just couldn't see it" being a big cat.

Mr Whitley, who owns Dartmoor Hawking, was taking a group of American tourists for a "hawk walk" last month when the animal was spotted about 200 yards (183m) away.

"One of the tourists started pointing and said 'what's that'," he said.

'A lot bigger'

"We watched it for about 400 yards as it came closer. It was in no hurry and seemed completely indifferent to us.

"There was a group of kids on a nearby tor making quite a racket and it ignored them too."

Mr Whitley, who was born and brought up in the area, said he has no real idea what the animal was, but is certain it was not a cat or a dog.

"I've seen a big cat on the moor before. It was 10 years ago and it was about the size of a collie - this was a lot bigger.

"Later we put a German short-hair pointer in the same spot. It's about 25 inches to the shoulder and this beast was at least an inch taller and utterly dwarfed it in bulk.

"It was definitely nothing supernatural - ghosts don't jump puddles and this one did."

Mr Whitley said his pictures have proved popular with hotel guests at Lewtrenchard Manor, who have been asking him to provide more "beast tours".

Big cat expert Mr Bamping raised doubts about it being a cat-like animal.

"I've studied the pictures and I just can't see it being a big cat," he told BBC News.

NOTE: I received a message from a reader who stated that this creature was a Newfoundland dog that a resident would let roam the area unleashed. I can go along with that....but, no disrespect to Newfoundland dog owners, that is the ugliest Newfoundland dog I've ever seen!...Lon

Edmonton Hotel's Ghostly Guests Have Not Checked Out

edmontonsun.com - Spirits may be lurking at a once luxurious west-end hotel.

Staff have reported TVs, toasters and microwaves being unplugged sporadically at the former Saxony Motor Inn, now a Howard Johnson Hotel, 15540 Stony Plain Rd.

Unexplained footsteps in stairwells and bangs on the doors have also been heard.

The strange events have piqued the interest of a local ghost hunter, who's launched a paranormal investigation at the inn.

After speaking with several chambermaids and guests, Sean Seerey, a veteran tarot card reader and hospitality consultant at the hotel, did a late-night reading in a second-floor suite.

While he did the reading, Seerey said the room became so cold he could see his breath.

"It was 23 or 24 degrees outside that night and I could see my breath (in the room)," said Seerey, 45.

The Saxony was a posh 40-room Spanish-style hotel when it opened in 1966.

But over the years, its high-class facade crumbled.

In the 1980s a strip club operated at the inn and later, a bingo hall.

On Dec. 21, 1990, Lorraine Wray, a 46-year-old masseuse, was found strangled in the bathroom of her business, a massage studio in a strip mall attached to the hotel.

"Spirits are either lost or they're observing something or they've got an agenda they need to accomplish before they move on," said Seerey.

While walking through the halls during late shifts, Seerey says he felt a spirit move through his body. He says he's also smelled rose perfume.

Front desk manager Debbie Hart says longtime staff members speak of a trick-playing spirit named Bob who lives at the hotel.

Over the years at the hotel, staff recall lights flickering in the lounge, footsteps in the stairwell when no one is there, and knocks on doors.

"The older staff say it's Bob playing again," said Hart.

Hotels are hotspots for hauntings, said Barbara Smith, author of four Ghost Stories of Alberta books.

"Hauntings seem to be connected with strong emotion which is a form of energy," said Smith

Report: Three Foot Tall TriPed Object, Man-Size 'Praying Mantis' - Philadelphia, PA

(Witness drawing)

MUFON witness statement: "On 8-15-2009 at 2:45am I was buzzed for about 5 seconds by a 4 foot round luminescent orb on the roof of the building that I work in, in Philadelphia . It materialized about a foot away from me, blocking my way and making a buzzing sound, it then took off and dematerialized in approximately a 6 feet distance. At this time I decided to turn around and leave the roof.

I found a photo of the object here. http://www.ufoarea.com/aas_ufophiladelphia.html

About an hour later at 3:45am I was walking through a machine room on the roof, near the same location of the orb, when I encountered a 3 foot tall triped creature. It was standing by an electrical transformer looking up at the conduits. I observed it for about 30 seconds from a distance of four feet before it turned around and noticed me. I was looking down at it! It had a beautiful baby blue eye which was moving rapidly, just one, a long eye lid and rubbery looking legs with bulbous feet. I could see it was starting to panic because it started stomping his feet like a mad skunk or jumping up and down and making a high pitch squeaking sound almost like a cats toy. I was blocking it’s way to the open roll up door leading to the roof behind me. I put up an open hand in a gesture to let it know that I wouldn’t hurt it and backed up towards a different part of the machine room, away from it’s path to the door, but kept my eye on the creature. I watched it walking down the isle slowly when it started to move. It stopped where I had turned to get out of its way, it then turned and looked me over for a couple of seconds. I couldn’t help myself and started to laugh at it. I felt like a child who saw a monkey for the first time or something! I got the impression that it was thanking me but I think I also offended it because it started to leer at me and it's eye changed to a lighter color. I could be wrong, it may have took a bow! The triped then took off running in the direction of the door disappearing behind machinery in the area. I didn't feel threatened in any way by this creature but I was quite sure that cornering it was a bad idea! In hindsight of this encounter I'm left with a feeling a of wonder. The buildings electrical generator was permanently shut down about a year ago.

On this same morning I'm doing my paper work in the control booth, and a larger than man sized Praying Mantis comes up to the window and just stairs at me for about a minute. I did not feel comfortable with this encounter considering the nature of this kind of insect. I sat there and didn’t move a muscle until it left. I have also heard screeching sounds in the roof machine room, in the direction of the roll up door which made my hair stand up on the back of my neck around the same time for 2 nights.

The next night 8-16-09 I'm mopping the floor in the machine room, on the roof and I come back to the sink to fill my bucket and there was a little springs and clip neatly arranged next to each other on the floor in front of the sink. I think the triped came back. There was no one else in the machine room. Was it trying to tell me something, were they gifts or was it trying to help me? I don’t know. Its a mystery! The triped may have been back the next night too, but I didn’t see it! It had moved stuff around like a toddler would have. It was into everything exploring I guess.

On 8-18-09 at around 3:00am I was witness to a giant bird above Eakins Oval with a 40 foot wing span or better, it had rectangle shaped wings and no tail feathers, I didn't see any feet or head either. All I could make out was the huge wings with all of the feathers moving in the breeze and there were hundreds of them, there were no primary feathers that I could see. It looked like a enormous kite. I'm a bird watcher and never seen a bird like this before. I was really quite fed up with all the paranormal stuff happening to me at this time so I watched it for about 4 minuets and decided to just ignored it and go on about my business before it did something really weird and unexplainable. "Wow " A Sumerian god come to earth! An angle maybe? I can take see an alien off my bucket list! Nothing else has happened since."

NOTE: well, I don't know what to make of this...one of the strangest reports I've seen on the MUFON site. Take it for what it's worth. Maybe there will be more details by the witness later...Lon

Jailed Hacker Locks Down Prison Computer

theregister.co.uk - A UK prison computer system was left in lockdown after jail bosses gave a convicted cybercriminal the task of reprogramming it.

Douglas Havard, 27, an inmate at Ranby Prison, Nottinghamshire, was asked to take over a project to create an internal TV station using the jail's computer network. Havard is half-way through a six year term over his involvement in a £6.5m hacking and phishing scam, something the prison governors must have reckoned gave him the requisite computer programming skills.

Havard, originally from the US, was jailed in 2005 after he was convicted for running the UK end of an international phishing scam estimated to have netted up to £6.5m. The American and partner in crime Lee Elwood, 25, were jailed after pleading guilty to conspiracy to defraud and conspiracy to launder money.

Data dumps of compromised credit card and bank account details were sent over from Russia to Havard, who used this information to fraudulently purchase goods online. These goods were then sold in online auctions by UK-based affiliates with the proceeds, less Havard's cut, sent back to Russia. The duo were involved in credit card counterfeiting and active on underground websites such as carderplanet and shadowcrew, according to investigators.

Havard and Elwood were arrested following a National Hi-Tech Crime Unit (NHTCU) investigation into eastern European phishing fraudsters.

After he was reportedly left unsupervised during the prison programming project, Havard spent his time altering system passwords so that everyone else was locked out. Prison bosses had to hire external consultants to sort out the resulting mess. Meanwhile Havard was put into segregation as punishment.

Another inmate at Ranby Prison recently managed to get a key cut that was capable of opening every door at the jail.

A Prison Service spokesman told the Sunday Mirror that the computer breach at Ranby was under investigation. He denied that lags were given unsupervised access and added: "The prisoner was not able to access records of any other prisoners."
