HAARP: Fooling With Mother Nature

HAARP, or the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, supposedly is an investigation project jointly funded by the United States Air Force, the United States Navy, the University of Alaska, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) which provide a research facility to conduct pioneering experiments in ionospheric phenomena. HAARP is a bed of 48 - 72 foot tall antennas. These antennas which lie in Gakona, Alaska in the Copper River valley are on land owned by the Department of Defense and are located about 260 miles Northeast of Anchorage, Alaska. It's used to analyze basic ionospheric properties and to assess the potential for developing ionospheric enhancement technology for communications and surveillance purposes. That's the official United States government description.
Here is an informative video on HAARP and it's capability of creating weather like hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis and earthquakes. It is also capable of altering peoples moods. From WETA TV, a PBS station. Click for the video
This documentary is a visual accompaniment to the book by Dr. Nick Begich, 'Angels Still Don't Play This HAARP: Advances In Tesla Technology'

The Chengdu, China Earthquake

HAARP ceased activity at 22 UTC on May 11, 2008. The China earthquake struck a little more than eight hours later at 6:28 UTC on May 12. In the days and minutes before the quake, there were reports of strange phenomena including bizarre toad behavior and iridescent clouds. Earthquakes are typically “in the works” days or weeks before going off, and animals, sensitive people, and scalar detectors can sense the nonphysical precursors to these quakes.

If earthquakes generate and are preceded by scalar waves, could scalar waves likewise trigger earthquakes? If so, the phased array of various ionospheric heaters around the world may be capable of doing this for political and military purposes. The quake was certainly convenient for western military factions:

Earthquake Destroyed China’s Largest Military Armory, Says Source

A high-level Chinese military source secretly disclosed that the earthquake in Sichuan Province caused a chain-reaction of explosions in the Sichuan mountain areas. The explosions destroyed Chinese army’s largest armory, new weapon test bases and part of nuclear facilities including several nuclear warheads. This information is considered China’s top military secret.

After carefully analyzing seismic data, military experts in southeast Asia confirmed a non-geological shock had occurred at the earthquake epicenter. The energy released was equivalent to that of an underground nuclear explosion.

There is not enough actual energy being outputted by ionospheric heaters to directly power an earthquake, but they don’t need that much power if they merely act as nonlinear imbalancers, triggers, or redirectors of existing large natural energy flows.

Was the earthquake just a random natural event? Or was it strategically and intentionally created?

Hurricane Katrina

Did elements within the U.S. or other governments have a role in creating, enhancing, or steering Katrina toward her Gulf Coast target, using advanced military technology?

If so, was Katrina at least in part an act of mass murder and treason, perhaps by rogue elements within the Pentagon or its private contractors...or was it, possibly, a stealthy act of war against the U.S.?

A 2001 FEMA report identified the THREE likeliest, most catastrophic disasters facing this country": A terror attack on New York, a major hurricane’s direct hit on New Orleans, and a major earthquake in Northern California. Is it two down, one to go?

World renowned scientist Dr. Rosalie Bertell confirms that "US military scientists ...are working on weather systems as a potential weapon. The methods include the enhancing of storms and the diverting of vapor rivers in the Earth's atmosphere to produce targeted droughts or floods."

Already in the 1970s, former National Security advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski had foreseen in his book "Between Two Ages" that:

"Technology will make available, to the leaders of major nations, techniques for conducting secret warfare, of which only a bare minimum of the security forces need be appraised...techniques of weather modification could be employed to produce prolonged periods of drought or storm."

Marc Filterman, a former French military officer, outlines several types of "unconventional weapons" using radio frequencies.

He refers to "weather war," indicating that the U.S. and the Soviet Union had already "mastered the know-how needed to unleash sudden climate changes (hurricanes, drought) in the early 1980s."

These technologies make it "possible to trigger atmospheric disturbances by using Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) radar [waves]."

A simulation study of future defense "scenarios" commissioned for the US Air Force calls for:

US aerospace forces to 'own the weather' by capitalizing on emerging technologies and focusing development of those technologies to war-fighting applications...

From enhancing friendly operations or disrupting those of the enemy via small-scale tailoring of natural weather patterns to complete dominance of global communications and counterspace control, weather-modification offers the war fighter a wide-range of possible options to defeat or coerce an adversary...

In the United States, weather-modification will likely become a part of national security policy with both domestic and international applications. Our government will pursue such a policy, depending on its interests, at various levels.

Fully Operational

While there is no concrete evidence of HAARP having been used, scientific findings suggest that it has been fully operational in various locations worldwide since 2007...and more are being built.

Climatic manipulations under the HAARP program (whether accidental or deliberate) would inevitably exacerbate these changes by weakening national economies, destroying infrastructure and potentially triggering the bankruptcy of farmers over vast areas.

Surely national governments and the United Nations should address the possible consequences of HAARP and other "non-lethal weapons" on climate change...though, the cat may be too far out of the bag.

NOTE: after researching this posting, I started to wonder if HAARP could be used to lessen global warming. Some speculate that the recent lack of Atlantic hurricanes may be the result of HAARP 'steering' these systems out to sea. I'm hopeful positive use can come from this amazing technology...Lon

Videos: Tales of Alien Abduction

By Carolyn Campbell - excerpts from - Ron Johnson was 14 years old in 1968 when he spent a month helping his aunt and uncle on their California horse ranch. One night, he woke about midnight. “I remember seeing the clock on the wall,” he recalls. “All of the blankets were on the floor at the foot of the bed. There was a very scary feeling, and I knew someone was there.”

Leaning his head back, he caught sight of a tall, thin alien bathed in a greenish glow. “He almost reminded me of an anorexic person with hollow cheeks, a pointed chin, and long bony arms and hands. He didn’t say anything—just stood there and looked at me. "

Terrified, Johnson, now 55, remembers closing his eyes and wishing the entity would leave. Though it was gone 10 minutes later, he kept his eyes closed and lay awake in fear until morning. Then he went to the living room and lay on the couch. Whenever he stayed at his relative’s house after that, he slept in the car.

In 1993, at sunset in mid-June in Oklahoma, Glenys Moore glanced across the treeless acres outside her home where cattle usually grazed among the sage and cedar. Coming from the north, Moore saw a light close to the ground shining outward. She noticed tall creatures that she first thought were cows walking toward and away from this light. “There were at least a dozen of them. They looked like ants, coming and going from their anthill. They were examining something. One would bend down, pick something up, show it to another creature, and seemingly discuss it.” She noticed the time was 6:30 p.m. She realized that two large dogs who usually “barked at everything” were completely silent.

Suddenly, one of the creatures turned to look straight at her. She says the alien appeared to be slender, with a large head, huge oval eyes and long, thin extremities. “I first felt fear, thinking, ‘I hope they don’t see me.’” The entity walked toward her, into her back yard and near the bathroom window where she stood watching. “I felt like running but could not. I seemed to be locked in its gaze. Then, as it drew nearer, my world disappeared.”

The next thing she knew, it was pitch dark. “I remember physically shaking myself back to reality. I walked in the bedroom and screamed when I saw that the clock read 10:30 p.m.” Moore still wonders where the four hours went.

They first came for Don Anderson’s son in 1984. It was 11 p.m. on a June evening in Mapleton, Utah, when 25-year-old Anderson shut off the TV in the bedroom of his mother’s basement where he was staying. He glanced down at his 4-year-old son who sat on the edge of a mattress on the floor playing with a truck.

Suddenly, he noticed a gray alien floating in the middle of the room. “We looked at each other. He pointed to my son, as if he were asking to take him,” Anderson recalls. He returned the alien’s gaze and telepathically communicated, “OK, let me go with him. If I go with him, he won’t be afraid.”

He says a ray of blue iridescent light shot through the room. He took his son by the hand. They jumped into the light ray and followed the gray alien across the basement, through the wall and upward through the ground to the grass outside.

Anderson says they moved toward a huge, saucer-shaped spacecraft across the street that hovered 60 feet in the air. “It was 30 feet across with red and blue lights that strobed through the neighborhood, flashing off houses in the area,” he recalls. He wondered why no one in the neighborhood was waking up to notice the ship. “It was deadly quiet. There were no dogs barking or crickets chirping,” he says. “All I could hear was the hum of the ship.”

He says that as he, his son and the gray alien traveled upward to the bottom of the ship, they felt a tingling sensation as they passed through telephone wires. He then remembers walking around the polished interior of the ship. “Everything was metal and really shiny, like it was made from stainless steel. I was walking on a cushy black catwalk.”

Anderson and a tall blond woman who seemed somehow familiar to him walked and telepathically communicated with each other. After he asked her if she could heal a serious stomach disorder he was currently experiencing, he heard her laugh. “The moment her eyes caught mine, it was like she said, ‘Don’t worry, you will be OK.’”

Anderson then saw his son and another boy through an arched doorway. They stood beneath a metal column, holding what looked like a hand-held shower massager. “My son grabbed it from the kid he just met and put it above his own head. Blue volts of what looked like electricity shot over his body. He cracked up and thought that was really funny. I watched them each use that about three times. I think the aliens took me there so that my son would know I was around and not be frightened, and I would know he was safe.”

Before long, Anderson was back in the front room of his mother’s house. “The screen door was open, and I could look through and see the ship hovering and whirring outside.” He says the room was also filled with elderly strangers he had never seen before. “They stood motionless, like they were in a coma. We were all sitting there watching and listening to the sound of this flying saucer across the street.”

He looked at the clock, and it was 6 a.m. “I sprang out of bed and thought, ‘Whoa.’”

UFO Attacks On Humans Reported Worldwide - Few westerners would have heard of the curious case of Mrs Zhu, of Siping City in China. In April, 2007 she was out walking at night with her son’s girlfriend, Ms Hui, after dinner. The two were planning on doing some late-night shopping. According to the account the two women later gave their shopping plans were thwarted by a UFO in attack mode.

‘I am an elderly lady and have no reason to lie’ noted Mrs Zhu, a high-school teacher.

‘As we were walking a glowing, red, egg-shaped object or UFO appeared in front of us. The object was emitting what appeared to be red lasers. The lasers were shooting out to a distance of 20cm and were about five centimetres in thickness. We tried to move away from the object and suddenly three beams shot out and hit both of us around the collar-bone. The women were about a meter away from the unexplainable object.

A few seconds later the UFO vanished.

When Mrs Zhu went home she felt some pain around her neck and then noticed a deep scar ten centimetres long in the area the laser struck her. It was as if a sharp instrument had cut her skin in a precise manner.

A number of government scientists who have examined the case insist that Mrs Zhu must have hurt herself prior to allegedly seeing the orb and having forgotten how the injury occurred associated it with the alleged object. It was, however, confirmed that lasers can create the injuries reported.

The women noted that there was a loud noise when the attack occurred and a baffled Mrs Chu comments that ‘I know that I did not injure myself otherwise, it happened then.’

When UFOs attack and injure people this sort of confusion almost always follows.
In India a significant series of events that appear almost identical in many ways to the above account were reported in 2002 by Associated Press.

Numerous villagers in the state of Uttar Pradesh claimed that soccer ball sized, red and blue, glowing spheres were attacking them while lying in bed. The spheres also emitted lasers that pierced their bodies. 7 people died of injuries sustained and numerous others were badly hurt and left with scars.

Police accused the villagers of mass hysteria and hallucination. The villagers in turn accused the police of failing to ‘catch the aliens’ and protect them. The situation became so severe that a 10,000 strong protest and riot occurred in the worst affected area, Mirzapur. One rioter was even killed by police. Village Protection squads were formed and people stopped sleeping outdoors.

Later the attacks were blamed on insects after one villager found a previously unidentified bug in the area. Needless to say, victims are anything but convinced by that explanation.

The area’s district Magistrate at the time, Amrit Amhijat claimed to have filmed one of the UFOs but this footage has never been publically released.

In Brazil, in the mid 1970s, numerous villagers in Brazil’s Amazon district complained of pretty much the exact same thing. Spheres and glowing balls of light were attacking them with lasers causing injury and death.

A top-secret investigation by Brazil’s military, ‘Operation Saucer’ or 'Operacao Prato' in Portuguese, was launched. For years rumours and leaks of this investigation were met with outright denial by the authorities. One person who spilled the beans on the operation was its head, Colonel Uyrange Hollanda.

Colonel Hollanda gave fairly detailed information to prominent local UFO researchers ,including A.J Gevaerd, on the over 2000 witnesses interviewed, the numerous photos, and actual UFO events witnessed by investigating army personnel. In one such event divulged, a number of military personnel, witness no less than a humanoid alien being beamed down from a cylindrical extraterrestrial craft to simply stare at them.

Shortly after telling his story Colonel Uyrange Hollanda was found dead, having apparently committed suicide. The blanket denial of ‘Operation Saucer’ went on until last year when the Brazilian military and government disclosed and released their UFO files, thanks largely to the work of A.J Gevaerd. Indeed pages and pages of detailed files, including photos and illustrations, on Operation Saucer came to light.

To digress, the case of A.J Gevaerd is a clear rebuttal of the notion that ufologists are a bunch of delusional tin-foil hatters. After years of claiming files existed that the government of a significant nation claimed didn't, Mr Gevaerd not only got hold of the very substantial files: Brazil's air force chiefs actually conceded that they wouldn't mind his help on this topic that had left them so perplexed!

These three examples of UFOs attacking human beings took place in very different parts of the world, yet all share very common features. The evidence for the above events taking place is very compelling and hard to explain away. Yet sadly, in most cases the victims were left without any real answers.

Were these objects UFO craft deliberately hurting humans? Were they actual life forms from another dimension attempting to communicate? Colonel Hollanda believed they were simply extraterrestrial probes innocently collecting information and not intending to do harm.

Many UFO researchers eagerly await world governments to come clean about what they know, if anything, of this topic.

New Species Discovered In Mekong River Region - The world is reassuringly stranger than we thought: another fanged frog has hopped into view, along with a leopard striped gecko, a tube nosed bat and a bird called the Nonggang babbler, all recently discovered in the Mekong delta in south-east Asia.

The announcement comes weeks after the revelation by a BBC team of their fanged frog, a different newly identified species, along with rats as big as cats, grunting fish and a teddy bear-like tree-climbing silky cuscus, all found on an expedition to a volcanic crater in Papua New Guinea.

The new bird-eating fanged frog, which lies in wait along the riverbank for prey including birds and large insects, is among a wealth of new species announced today by WWF International.

In 2008, scientists discovered 100 plants, 28 fish, 14 amphibians, two mammals and the new bird species in the region – on top of over 1,000 new species identified there in the previous decade.

Scientists believe the frog, found in eastern Thailand, and named Limnonectes megastomias, uses fangs as intimidating as any snake's in combat with other males, as well as to catch prey.

The leopard gecko, Goniurosaurus catbaensis, turned up on Cat Ba island in northern Vietnam. It has large beautiful cat-like eyes, and leopard stripes along the length of its body.

The scientist who found it, Lee Grismer from La Sierra University in California, said he was so engrossed in trying to capture it, it took his son to point out that his hand was resting on a rock inches away from the head of a pit viper.

"We caught the snake and the gecko, and they both proved to be new species," he said.

The bat was found in south-eastern Vietnam, and the Nonggang babbler bird in the rainforest on the border between China and Vietnam.

"After millennia in hiding, these species are now finally in the spotlight, and there are clearly more waiting to be discovered," said Stuart Chapman, director of the WWF Greater Mekong Programme.

He warned, however, that climate change, including floods and drought, threatened the survival of many of these species, just as the world learned of their existence.

"Some species will be able to adapt to climate change, many will not, potentially resulting in massive extinctions. Rare, endangered and endemic species like those newly discovered are especially vulnerable because climate change will further shrink their already restricted habitats."

Photos: Strange Activity in North Carolina House - Update

"I ran across a few photos that were taken at this house last year and have attached them.

The first one I'm sending is of the entrance to the upstairs bathroom and there appears to be the face of a man on the wooden door.

The second photo was taken by my friend who for whatever reason was trying to take a pic of the dining room and captured the back of my head. At the time he and I were the only ones in the upstairs section of the house. There is an obvious hand touching my left shoulder, however, there was no one standing that close to me when the pic was taken and after my friend who took the pic was quite surprised to see a hand there when he viewed the photo.

The third photo was taken inside the house and I'm not certain which area but it appears to be the hallway.

Thanks for viewing and as always appreciate your sharing."

NOTE: an associate, who is clairvoyant/sensitive, enhanced the 'hand on the shoulder' image and got the following results:

She states: "That is a man's hand. Looks like he is wearing a blue/gray woven sweater. It's an older man. I get the feeling that the missing finger is connected to his life, an accident. Did someone like that live in that house at one time?

He's a good soul.

The spirit is on a different "wavelength", moving much faster than human eyes can follow, thus the motion blur caught on camera.

Those ribbons of light are the soul's energy and that is how they are usually seen, as streaks of light, not orbs. Orbs are something else."

NOTE: My friend 'Bet' from North Carolina Paranormal Research forwarded this update and photos. Below, I re-posted her original submission...Lon

Mailbag: Strange Activity in North Carolina House

The Perth Orbs are interesting.

I zoomed in on the face orb 7/27/09 article and on closer observation you can see another face on the NECK of the face. There you can clearly see the face of a man. The hair, eyes, ears, nose and mouth of a man. COOL!!

I have some similar photos that I took at my aunts house in Silverstone, NC in January 09. The face orbs in my photos show some pretty amazing detail. Her house is known to be haunted and always very active. I had set up a camera in the hallway on this night and captured the face of a man and using my digital had taken a few pics in the den which show the face of a little girl with blonde hair which appeared after uploading.

On this same night my boyfriend had taken some pictures of the upstairs. He and I were the only ones on the upper level of the house at the time. One of the photos was captured as we were walking toward the hallway. He was taking a pic of the back of me with him walking behind me and when it was uploaded it clearly shows a hand holding my shoulders. It is a rather creepy photo as well as the little girl that appeared.

My aunt married my uncle in the early 70s and they built the house on family property. After digging and dozing there were allot of Indian artifacts found. A few days later the family dog had dug up a mysterious plastic bag and was carrying the bag in its mouth to show to my aunt. The dog dropped the bag at her feet then lay down to be petted. When she picked the bag up and opened it she was shocked to find that it contained two pair of HUMAN HANDS. One was a woman and the other a child's. There was no deteriorating of these hands as far as I know and the flesh still intact. She placed the bag of hands in her car and drove over to my grandmothers house to show to her. My grandmother was shocked by what she had displayed and told her that she should immediately call the local police and report the finding. She was afraid to report it because of fearing that whoever had committed a murder on her new property might find out that she had discovered the hands and would possibly come after her and her family and kill them too. She told my grandmother to just throw the bag of hands in the trash and keep quiet about it to protect the family from any harm that might come from reporting a probable crime. My grandmother had promised to throw them in the trash but 2 years later during the holidays my mother, aunt and grandmother were talking after dinner when the hands subject came up. My grandmother told them that she had decided to NOT throw the hands in the trash that day and had KEPT them hidden in the attic of her home for the past 2 years as she was afraid that if she threw the hands of these dead souls away that their spirits might come back and haunt her and the family. She had felt very uneasy having the hands in her house and wished that the discovery of the mysterious human hands had never happened. My aunt and mother told her that they couldn't believe that she had been brave enough to hide and keep those hands and so she told them that they weren't the ones who had to live with them. She hid them away in hopes that everyone would be safe.

I found out about the mysterious hands through family conversation in the mid 1980s and from then on has been the topic since. I remember as a child visiting my aunt and spending the night there. I slept in the bedroom that was occupied by my cousin. It was a very unpleasant experience. The house was indeed haunted. Whatever spirit or spirits remained there were very angry ones. The bed I slept on would shake and my cousin and I could hear whispering voices coming from outside the room in the hallway. We just lay there staring at each other and afraid to move all night.

My younger brother was telling me some years back that he had spent the night there only once and that he awoke that night because he had heard whispering voices. He said that following these voices he rolled over in bed onto his back and when he looked up he could see my aunt floating over the top of him and looking down at him laughing with this evil laughter in her voice. He said the thing that creeped him out the most about his experience was the glow of red in her eyes. He said that he got up and ran down the hallway into her room and there she was unmoved..sleeping. Whatever the spirit was had taken the FORM of my aunt. This has happened many times to quite a few people on her property. My older sister had her experience there as well. She, my aunt and I were talking one day about her house being haunted when my sister nervously asked my aunt why she didn't remember floating over my sister one night laughing this evil laughter with that red glow in her eyes. She had asked my aunt following her eerie experience in the house as well as time and time again why she didn't remember doing this and my aunt would deny it ever happening. Then finally one day explained to my sister that stuff occurred all the time in her house and that she didn't want to discuss it because it was so frightening.

My uncle, while almost arriving home from work one day, was rounding the steep drive to the house when he saw my aunt walking towards the house. He stopped to ask her if she wanted a lift but said that she kept walking and never responded as if she didn't hear him. He went ahead and drove all the way up and parked. He got out of his car and walked inside the house to find that my aunt was there with their daughter preparing dinner and had never even left the house. This has happened several times to several people on that property as well.

The faces in these orbs are very REAL. The mysterious hauntings that visibly prepare these faces are very REAL.

Thanks for sharing and let's FACE it..We are NOT alone.

Video: 'I was abducted by aliens...and I fought back!'

NOTE: I dug up this video from the site today. It was recorded at the Bay Area UFO Expo...Lance Carter provides a vivid description of his alien abduction experience. His account is one of the few in which the abductee fought back against what he describes as "grey aliens" and wanders their facility (or spacecraft) in search of an escape. During his search for a way out, Mr. Carter describes, in great detail, an amazing "plot" of the extraterrestrials.. Anyway, take a look and tell me what you think...Lon

Cryptomundo: Orang Pendek Sighted - Loren Coleman has posted the following breaking news:

“Yeti sighted in Jungle !!!! Two team members have sighted the Yeti while we were in the jungle. I heard a large animal moving towards us. Subsequently the creature was then sighted by team member Dave Archer and Sahar Didmus, a forest ranger. I have a sworn affadavit from Sahar to that effect. It hid from us by a tree, before moving rapidly and bipedally through the jungle. Dave describes the OP [Orang Pendek] as looking almost chimpanzee-like. Sahar was so upset and disturbed he began sobbing, and I had to comfort him. We have taken hair samples found at the site, and bagged some rattan which it was eating. We will have these analysed by Todd Disotell. Numerous tracks also found……………!!!!!!!!” ~ Adam Davies (enroute out of Indonesia via Singapore)

Expedition Searches For Sumatran Yeti...Orang Pendek - A group of British explorers and scientists from the North-Devon based Centre for Fortean Zoology (CFZ), the world's largest mystery animal research organisation, is about to embark on an expedition in search of a yeti-like creature in Indonesia.

The four-man team will search the jungles of Sumatra for what locals call the "orang-pendek.". The powerfully built, upright-walking beast may be related to both the orang-utan and the much larger yeti of mainland Asia.

In the same island chain remains of the tiny hominid known as Homo floresiensis were unearthed in 2003.

The Kubu people - an ancient race who were the first inhabitants of Sumatra - will aid the team. The tribe and their chief have seen the creature in their poorly explored jungle homelands.

Westerners have sighted the orang-pendek too, including Englishwoman Debbie Martyr, now head of the Indonesian tiger conservation group, and wildlife photographer Jeremy Holden.

Also reported in the same jungles are huge horned snakes said to be ten metres long, and a savage, golden cat with a stubby tail and large canine fangs.

The expedition's zoologist, Richard Freeman, Zoological Director of the CFZ, said: "The orang-pendek is especially interesting as it is an ape that walks upright rather than on all fours. It may show us how our own ancestors first began bipedal locomotion.

"The cigau may be a surviving form of Homotherium or scimitar cat, which is a beast related to the better known sabre-toothed cats. Fossils of this animal have been found in Indonesia that are only 10,000 years old. In evolutionary or geological terms that is yesterday.

"The giant snakes, known as 'nagas' by the Kubu, may be a new species. There are horned snakes such as the rhinoceros viper and the horned viper, but these are small. The nagas of the Kubu are said to be ten metres long! The 'horns' are probably modified scales.

"New species are turning up in Indonesia all the time; it is the real life lost world."

Team leader Adam Davis, together with Dr Chris Clark and Dave Archer, will join Mr Freeman.

Writer Investigates Hauntings at Historic Massachusetts Inn

by Joe Durwin - - Arguably the most prominent historic landmark in Stockbridge, MA, the Red Lion Inn has been in existence since 1773 when Silas Pepoon first established a tavern there.

Over the course of more than two centuries, it has gone from being a smoky saloon for fomenting revolution to one of the most famous and well-regarded historic lodgings in the region. It has been through 20 proprietors and three name changes, and it even has burned to the ground and been rebuilt. It has accommodated presidents, dignitaries and many celebrities.

Turns out, it may accommodate even stranger denizens.

I first encountered rumors of a haunting at the inn a couple of years ago, through some reviews on the popular site that referred to unusual activity in room 301. The first, in August 2004, was from a man who said he felt something touching his head and tugging the bed sheet. Almost one year to the day later, a second reviewer reported several times waking up to the feeling of having their toes being pulled on, as well as the sound of footsteps and the sensation of an unseen force fluffing up the comforter.

A month later, a third review described the guest being woken all night by cover-pulling from the foot of the bed. When the man turned to look, he saw a man in a top hat and "olden day attire," who then vanished in a white mist.

This, it seems, is not the only part of the inn said to be haunted. Guests have told staff of unusual sightings in other rooms, and one former housekeeper stated there had been rumors among some of the cleaning staff going back at least a decade about the whole fourth floor being haunted. In addition to the man in the top hat, there are vague rumors about a ghostly young girl carrying flowers.

One intriguing story can be found in the current edition of the inn's "Stories," a courtesy booklet of anecdotes penned by former guests recalling their experiences staying there. In it, one Sheryl Ciccarelli recounts an incident taking place in Room 424. One night in April 2003, she awoke quite suddenly to an overwhelming feeling that someone - or something - stood over her bed. Looking at the clock as she woke her husband, she noted the time: 1:35 a.m. In the morning, they discovered that their daughter had left them a message to tell them that a rainstorm had knocked the power lines out to their house, causing a shower of sparks and a great commotion in the neighborhood. The time of her call? 1:35 a.m.

Other miscellaneous incidents have been mentioned in various other parts of the complex. The most significant involves a gentleman who asked to be relocated from his room, he said, because of the sheer number of "spirited" guests he encountered. The gentleman turned out to be celebrity medium James van Praagh.

Last year, Joseph Flammer and Diane Hill, a pair of ghost-hunters from Long Island, spent the night in room 301, bringing with them a variety of sophisticated equipment. In addition to a pervasive cold spot at the foot of the bed, they reported knocks coming from within the armoire adjacent to it. They also claim to have captured video recording an amorphous "something" sweeping across the room to bang into the camera tripod.

Intrigued, I wanted to see for myself what oddities room 301 might hold and made arrangements to rent the room. I arrived on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and quickly checked in. Room 301 is a bright, cozy little room at the southernmost end of the main building, with nothing overtly spooky about its appearance.

I immediately turned on a digital recorder and started snapping photos. I didn't expect anything terribly dramatic. Over the years I've visited more allegedly haunted places than I can count, and only a handful of times have things gotten very weird. It may be ghosts just don't like to deal with the press.

The only particularly curious thing observed during my stay involved certain electrical fluctuations. I'm not a professional "ghost-hunter" by any means, but I did happen to have an EMF detector on loan from a friend. In a nutshell, what this does is measure electromagnetic field fluctuations. Typically, these are emitted by electrical appliances, wiring and other such equipment. However, in one area of the floor between the foot of the bed and armoire, I got persistently high spikes, much higher than those closer to the TV and other electronics.

It would be difficult to completely rule out wiring or other mechanical emissions coming from under that area of the floor as a cause of these readings, but given the fact that most reports of odd phenomenon in 301 seem to involve that part of the room, it seems worth consideration.

So who or what might haunt the inn? My first thought was to look into the fire that leveled the building in 1896, but this is said to have resulted in no loss of lives. In 236 years of history, though, the inn has had many thousands of visitors and staff, and there's no real agreement on what era the alleged ghosts of the inn might hail from.

Could be there's just something in the name. In the process of scouring for data on the Stockbridge haunt, I was intrigued to find a profusion of haunted Red Lions. The 17th century Red Lion Inn of Avebury, Wiltshire, is widely held to be haunted by a former innkeeper, and the Red Lion in Gloucestershire has been said to feature the ghost of Anne Boleyn. Then there's London's Red Lion Square, where the shade of Oliver Cromwell is said to hang about, and the be-spooked Red Lion Hotel of Pontefract, Yorkshire. Back on this side of the pond, Chicago's Red Lion Pub is said to be frequented by half a dozen former patrons from various eras.

Is our Red Lion really haunted? According to Carol Cosco Baumann, director of marketing and communications, "Every now and then, we hear about a guest that has had an experience that they attribute to a ghostly presence. In the past four years, I can count the number of such instances on one hand. That said, we keep our minds open to the possibilities!"

Perhaps the best way to assuage your curiosity is to go see for yourself. I recommend room 301... just keep an eye on that strange spot at the foot of the bed.

Photo: Cigar-Shaped UFO Hovers Over Exeter, Devon, UK - Is this a picture of a UFO seen hovering for more than an hour near Exeter?

Amateur astronomer Lee Betts, 29, believes it is — or that the sighting is at least unexplained.

Mr Betts took the photographs with the help of his telescope in the bedroom of his home in Newton St Cyres.

He saw the red cigar-shaped object hovering around 1,000ft off the ground four miles away, towards Thorverton, late on Monday night.

“I couldn’t believe it at first,” he said.

“The shape was about 100ft long and there were four lights coming from it initially.

“I saw it at the back of my house, which faces Thorverton, so I got my telescope set up and magnified the image 20 times and then took this picture. All this happened at around 8.45pm and it was still there an hour later.

“I’ve never seen anything like this before — it’s unexplained.

“The shape moved slowly across the skyline and as I looked through my telescope it seemed to pivot on its central axis. It was very strange.

“It then sort of rolled around and a bright light appeared at one end of the shape.

Then, without warning, a sudden flash of light like a shooting star went across the sky.”

Mr Betts, who lives with his fiancee, said he was pleased with the outcome of his photographs, which he supplied to the Echo.

“The shape was about four miles away in the direction of Thorverton Hills,” he said.

“I have been an amateur astronomer for the past three years and sightings like this are all new to me.

“Luckily, I could magnify my telescope which enabled me to take this picture with some accuracy.”

He said the sky was different than normal on Monday.

“Clouds were illuminated for some reason and when I told my brother what I had seen he said the sky was also strange over Bristol where he lives,” he said.

Mr Betts said that a work colleague had confirmed the sky in Taunton was also unusual on the same night.

A police spokesman said they had not received any reports of any sightings of a UFO in Devon.

NOTE: supposedly, this object hovered for over an hour. Meteorite? Lantern? I doubt it...I've never heard of a red meteorite, much less, a meteorite that 'hovered'. If it was a Chinese lantern, it would have burned up and fell back to earth rather quickly. Also, there were reports of unusual illumination in other locations. Very odd...Lon

David Carradine Believed Wife's Dead Husband Haunted Him....From Bedroom Closet!

A few months before his body was found hanging in a Bangkok hotel room closet, David Carradine sat down to discuss a ghost he believed was haunting him...from a home closet.

The interview, taped for the Oct. 3 premiere of the BIO show 'Celebrity Ghost Stories,' centers on Carradine's belief that his wife Annie's deceased husband Dana was using the closet in their bedroom as home base to haunt them. In the video, Carradine states:

"I think he was hanging out in the closet, and sometimes when I walked into that would be cold in there, unreasonably cold," Carradine said, according to quotes from the New York Post, which claims it's his final interview ever.

Carradine was equally freaked out by one of Dana's ties that remained in the closet. "[It] was turned around and it had a little logo attached to it...that said 'Grateful Dead,' and I thought, what does he mean by that?"

"It was obviously a joke, that the dead were was the only way he could communicate [that] he now felt like everything was settled, the kids were taken care of and I was gonna be there for them," Carradine said. "And I will be."

Carradine died of asphyxiation on June 3 after an apparent self-bondage episode went horribly wrong. He was found naked with a rope tied around his neck.

Rob Sharenow, BIO's senior VP of programming, said the network didn't want to exploit Carradine's death, so they held the episode and didn't mention the actor's involvement until now.

"We wanted to be respectful, first and foremost, and to roll the show out as planned," he told the New York Post.

"We're absolutely going to feature the Carradine story prominently the week it airs," he says. "While we don't want to appear as if we were exploiting his misfortune...we don't want to be shy about talking about it."

"It's extraordinary -- and people are going to notice it."

Photo: UFO Sighted Over San Benito, Argentina - "They're a common sight around here." Ingrid Presler, a native of San Benito, explained that she was casually taking photos at the doorway to her home. She claims seeing "a blue light that lit the entire sky toward the east" and further explained that it is not the first time she has had experiences of this nature.

In statements made to LT14 Radio, Ingrid explained that she purchased a photo camera not so long ago and in order to try it out, began taking photos of her pets, relatives, etc. One night she left her home and saw "a blue light that lit the
sky toward the east." She said that she immediately pressed the shutter and saw "a strange object" captured her screen. Later on, due to her astonishment, she showed the object to her sister, who opined that "it might be a UFO."

Based on this experience, they decided to submit the photo to Licenciado Gustavo Fernández "so that he could provide us with more information."

Ingrid appears to be convinced of the existence of UFOs: "I believe because evidence has proved it. There are photos and videos."

At the same time, she noted that this is not the first time in which she has witnessed events of this nature. "I'm always on the lookout nowadays, just in case," adding: "They're a common sight around here."

The other experience, according to Ingrid, occurred a few years ago but during the day. "The [alleged] UFO flew rather close over my head." She added that on that occasion, she saw something resembling "a red light" -- an image she was not able to capture on any camera.

*Slow moving lights involved*
*UFO allegedly spotted over San Benito*
*Strange zig-zagging object photographed for several days at the same time*

Residents of San Benito claim having seen UFOs at night since mid-September. These are lights that move slowly, leaving a bright wake.

For several days and at the same time, they have photographed the strange zig-zagging object which they believe could be a UFO.

Betiana Presler approached the UNO newsroom to display the photographs taken by her twin sister during the second quarter of September, every night at 21:00 hours.

She said that she discovered the strange light by chance, looking at the night sky and deciding to track its movements. "My sister became very enthusiastic when she saw the strange light leaving a wake behind it, it moved a few centimeters slowly and drew various lines in the sky," said Ms. Presler.

Photos were taken from the San Martin district of San Benito, on Santa Fe and Libertad streets. Presler noted that her sister took the photos without flash "because when a flash is employed, something like bubbles can be seen. Since the camera has motion detection, she was able to focus the light properly."

Human Immortality Only 20 Years Away - A 61-year-old American, who has predicted new technologies arriving before, says our understanding of genes and computer technology is accelerating at an incredible rate.

He says theoretically, at the rate our understanding is increasing, nanotechnologies capable of replacing many of our vital organs could be available in 20 years time.

Mr Kurzweil adds that although his claims may seem far-fetched, artificial pancreases and neural implants are already available.

Mr Kurzweil calls his theory the Law of Accelerating Returns. Writing in The Sun, Mr Kurzweil said: "I and many other scientists now believe that in around 20 years we will have the means to reprogramme our bodies' stone-age software so we can halt, then reverse, ageing. Then nanotechnology will let us live for ever.

"Ultimately, nanobots will replace blood cells and do their work thousands of times more effectively.

"Within 25 years we will be able to do an Olympic sprint for 15 minutes without taking a breath, or go scuba-diving for four hours without oxygen.

"Heart-attack victims – who haven't taken advantage of widely available bionic hearts – will calmly drive to the doctors for a minor operation as their blood bots keep them alive.

"Nanotechnology will extend our mental capacities to such an extent we will be able to write books within minutes.

"If we want to go into virtual-reality mode, nanobots will shut down brain signals and take us wherever we want to go. Virtual sex will become commonplace. And in our daily lives, hologram like figures will pop in our brain to explain what is happening.

"So we can look forward to a world where humans become cyborgs, with artificial limbs and organs."

The Doctor the Ghost and the Psychic

Sometimes knowing the people I do in my line of interests brings together situations that I could never imagine. This is one of those scenarios

I have a long time friend who is a doctor in Canada. She is a bright happy full of life woman who is always interesting to talk to and fun to be around. I think highly of her and know her to be a hard working trustful person of strong character.

She is unusual as she is not only a person of science but walks a path of strong spiritual beliefs and has an open mind to all things unknown. She has had events that are unexplainable in her own life and keeps an open mind when it comes to the world of the paranormal.

Last March I called my friend. She had moved and I had not spoken to her for a while and wanted to catch up on what was going on in her life and share what was happening in mine. We were at the end of our conversation when she said “ Oh let me tell you about the ghost in my new condo.” She was so matter of fact at first I thought she was joking.

She bought a new condo during Christmas time that just so happened to be about a two-block walk from the cemetery where her mother was buried. She would often walk over and place flowers or items that reminded her of her mom on her mother’s grave.

She told me that shortly after moving into her new condo she started to see a fleeting image of a man in her home. This shadow type image of a man would appear when she was busy doing something in her kitchen or sitting reading or watching TV. She would catch a glimpse of a tall thin man dressed in black cross a doorway or standing by her kitchen window. As she told me about this I felt uneasy and nervous however my friend was calm and matter of fact about seeing this image of a man that she talked as if it were a natural everyday occurrence. I asked her if she could have someone come in and cleanse her new home as the image could have been attached to the previous owners. I knew not to dismiss her sighting, as I know her well enough to know she would not mention it unless it was happening- often. She told me she would think about it and changed the subject to other things as we ended our call.

That phone call did not sit well with me. I could not stop thinking about her in that new condo with some ‘thing’ in there with her. I waited about ten days and called her again.

I did not waste any time in small talk and got right back to the ghost in her house. She told me that he was still there and that he now comes to her bedside at night and whispers her name in her ear. She could see his image which was a young man dark haired with a heavy Irish accent. I immediately started to panic. I wanted her to have someone come stay with her and to bring in people who could remove this spirit from her home. I had an extremely uneasy feel about the entire thing and really felt pushed to get her to take action to remove this spirit from her new home and life.

She told me she thinks she may have picked him up on one of her visits to the cemetery where her mother is buried. She said she realized it started after her last visit to place flowers at her mom’s grave.

The more we discussed this the more I sensed that my friend was far more concerned about this happening then she was letting on. She promised me she would not try to have a friend stay with her until this issue of the uninvited ghost was resolved. She also was going to try to contact a professional ghost hunter.

My friend was able to get her sister to come and stay with her for a while which added credence to this story as she too saw the ghost and also described him as a young man with dark hair dressed in black. She too heard his whispers and she too reported an Irish accent.

I wanted my friend to move out of the condo until this mans spirit could be removed from the house as his visits were becoming more frequent and his vision and words clearer as the days went by. I was terrified his energy was increasing and truly nervous for my friend’s safety. Both my friend and her sister were cautious but truly brave and stayed their ground unwilling to be chased from her new home. They were fearful of the ghost but not as much as I was. There seemed to be calmness about them concerning this haunting that I could not understand.

I know many unusual people due to the subjects I write about and decided to call one of my contacts and friends who is a strong psychic and medium. This woman was had strong beliefs about her abilities and would only use her gifts when she felt people were in trouble or when the messages were very strong. If she were unsure or uncomfortable she would refuse to use her abilities. I did not know what she would do but decided to set up a visit with her so I could tell her what my doctor friend was going through. I was hopeful she might have some advice.

I invited the psychic to lunch so we could sit and chat for a while. I took her to a favorite seafood place near my house. We no sooner sat down and ordered when my psychic friend looked at me and said “ So you are having a ghost problem huh?” I would say I was stunned but knowing this woman I knew she was picking up my strong concerns.

I told her most of what was happening to my pal in Canada when she stopped me dead sentence and said-“ She picked him up at the graveyard because she was doing something Irish in the cemetery. He was drawn to her as she represented home and followed her back to her condo.” She then went on to say that she could clearly see him and that he was a young Irishmen who died suddenly and did not want to face the fact he was dead. He wanted to return home to Ireland. She told me I was to go home immediately and tell my friend to call him by his name -Matthew, and tell him he had to go with her now and that she was to talk to him non stop as she walked him back to the graveyard. She told me to tell my friend she had to do this, as it was not safe to keep him in her home. She also instructed me to have my friend talk with him the entire way explaining to him that he needed to cross over and if he would follow the light to the other side he would then be able to find his way home to his beloved Ireland and family. The psychic told me he had been wandering that graveyard for years until he saw my friend do that “Irish thing”.

The psychic told me it was important I try to get my friend to listen to me and do this or things could become- complicated and dangerous. I had no idea if my friend would listen to any of this but decided to go home to call her and try to get her to at least listen to my psychic friends warnings and advice.

I called my friend in Canada and told her word for word what the psychic had told me. I did not know what reaction to anticipate as I was interfering and was afraid she would be angry.

My friend did not say one word while I spoke which was making me very uncomfortable and nervous I had over stepped my boundaries. I finally finished all that the psychic had told me and listened as only silence greeted me on the other end of the phone. I started to regret calling when finally my doctor friend spoke. “ I did a Irish Jig in the graveyard on St Patrick’s day for my mom.” Of course I replied with a “You did what?” She then told me that she went to the graveyard on St Patrick’s Day and brought green carnations and a big four-leaf clover that she set up around her mother’s headstone. She said she then talked to her mother as was her way and ended the visit by doing a wild Irish Jig right there in the graveyard as she had done for her mom every year on St Patties day.

She told me that the haunting started almost at once after that last visit. She also was stunned the psychic picked up that she had done that in the cemetery.

My friend agreed to do exactly as the psychic suggested. Along with her sister they immediately began to speak to the ghost using his name. They both told him over and over that he had passed over and had to cross over to the light to find his way home to the land and family he loved. The next morning the two sisters started breakfast talking to Matthew and talked non-stop about his need to cross over to find his way. They also told him he had to go with them and walked back to the graveyard talking all the way to the ghost they hoped was walking with them.

They walked him back to the middle of the cemetery where they told him one last time it was now the time for him to follow the light and cross over to where he wanted and needed to be. They talked of Ireland and his relatives who would surely be waiting for him on the other side. They told him he would be able to see his homeland and family once he walked over to where he needed to be. They talked and talked until they felt he was gone. They told Matthew he could not come home with them again and they left the cemetery and ran back to my friend’s condo.

It has been six months and so far Matthew has not returned and all the ghostly events have ended in my friend’s house. I recently talked to the psychic who told me the poor lad had found his way and was busy back in the green of his homeland. She had no doubts he would not return. The doctor is back to her normal self and her sister has long moved back to her own home.

I found the entire situation a walk into the unknown that will for me be another event that makes me shake my head in wonder how very much we just do not understand.

I have learned to listen with a open mind to those who have events I can not understand and also promised myself to never do a Irish Jig in a cemetery – ever.

Sighting Changes Shropshire Couple's UFO Belief - When Phillip and Sharon Beddoes went to sleep on Saturday night they didn’t believe in UFOs. But come Sunday morning they weren’t quite so certain.

For the couple, of Arleston Avenue, Wellington, saw an orange light in the sky above their house. It first hovered in the air before “pirouetting and dancing” across the sky. Then it disappeared at enormous speed.

“When we first saw it, it was in one position behind the trees in the woods,” said Mr Beddoes, 39. “There was nothing else in the sky but this orange glow.”

He said the light, which was diamond-shaped with smaller lights inside it, darted about in the air but made no noise. “And then it was gone in the blink of an eye.”

Mr Beddoes, a cleaning supervisor at GKN Sankey, said: “We could not talk to each other afterwards. We were amazed.”

The orange glow was in the sky long enough for Mrs Beddoes to video it on her mobile phone.

Steve Smith, of Dawley Bank, saw something similar on Sunday evening. His UFO also moved across the sky but made no sound.

The Beddoes say they have no idea what it was they saw, but they hope a Shropshire Star reader can give them an explanation.

“I have never seen anything like that at all,” said Mr Beddoes. “I know what a plane is, everyone does, but for it to start in that position and then do what it did. I cannot explain it.”

Mr Beddoes said that before seeing the light he had paid little attention to UFO stories. “I’m not a believer,” he said, “but I’ve got some doubts now.”

'Nazca-Like' Geoglyphs Discovered in South Kazakhstan - Media outlets as well as the official government website in Kazakhstan are reporting the surprise discovery of local geoglyphs or ‘Nazca Lines’. Geoglyphs are drawings created on the ground by arranging stones or removing the top layers of earth. These designs typically cover large areas. The most famous geoglyphs are those found in the Nazca desert in Peru. These show hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys, fish, sharks, llamas, and lizards.

The Kazakhstan Geoglyphs (photo above, thanks to photojournalist N. Dorogov) appear to depict a humanoid figure wedged between two unusual structures. The drawings are located in the remote Karatau Mountains in South Kazakhstan.

Geoglyphs are of interest to UFO researchers, some of whom believe they might be messages or markers created by ancient people for the benefit of visiting extraterrestrials. It is alleged by these UFO scholars that in times of distress these were a way of asking ‘Star Gods’ to return and Assist these early societies, however this hypothesis has not been proven.

It is expected that some scholars of extraterrestrial matters will claim that the being shown in the drawing might well depict an alien that once visited the area and interacted with the locals.

Kazhakstan is an area of intense UFO sightings and activity. Recently the Kazakhstan Government toyed with the idea of creating a UFO landing field and an alien embassy.

How to 'Take Out' a Voodoo Doll - A scholar of the religion known as Vodou (or Voodoo, if you’re Anglo) tells how she saved a small cloth ritual object from desecration by a gang of spooked professors.

I am now the guardian of a Vodou doll that has wreaked havoc at my university. I first learned of him last week, when a colleague in the art history department sent me a mysterious message. Could she bring him by so I could take a look at him? She did not disclose where he came from or how he ended up over at art history instead of my own department, religious studies.

Both my research and personal interest were piqued, and I invited them over for Friday—but on that morning I ran into some difficulty. My husband’s car would not start; the doll would have to wait. I called my colleague and suggested a Monday meeting. She took the news a bit ominously, mentioning that other faculty had been having “bad luck” since his arrival in their lives.

Monday morning I waited with eager anticipation for my colleague’s arrival. I must confess that I was ready to wow her with my expertise of Afro-Caribbean religion. I must also admit I was expecting an elaborate doll, one worthy of inspection by professors of the fine arts. Instead, I was handed a Kodak slide tray box containing a medium-sized cloth doll, along with a bag of candy corns. His eyes are two slits of white thread, his pants, hat, and scarf are red, his shirt a light purple. He looks like something you would buy at a tourist stand. In fact, as I gazed at him, that is where I assumed he came from.

But no. He was discovered by workmen. The computer in one of the university’s classrooms had been crashing, and no one could fix it. Finally a tech person came and took the computer out of its cabinet. There he was, wedged behind it. The computer was fixed.

My colleague did not want to leave him to perform any more mischief so he was brought to her department. Faculty were not pleased; a modernist in the department said to “get rid of him.” Others joined in to demand his exit. As a way of appeasing him, someone gave him an offering of candy corn. And then he came to me. He had nowhere else to go. It was either I take him, or the plan was to dig a hole, pour some rum and gunpowder on him, and bury him. The idea of PhDs sitting around plotting the burial and destruction of a doll makes me smile even now. I thought that sort of irrational superstition only happened in religious studies—apparently, we are not alone.

Vodou dolls and zombies are associated with the Hollywood popularization and vilification of Vodou, a rich African Diaspora religion that is too often reduced to witchcraft and sorcery. As a scholar that works on Afro-Caribbean religion, I cannot tell you how many times I get calls from journalists wanting me to denounce Vodou, describe it as satanic, list it as a possible explanation for a case of torture or ritual death.

When I teach students about Vodou they are intrigued and often fearful; field trips to Vodou house temples evoke an excitement that no visit to a church ever provokes. When I teach Catholicism, I do not get inundated with emails from undergrads asking to meet a priest. When I teach about Vodou (and consequently Santería), I get flooded with desperate emails asking me to reveal the name of a “good” Vodou priest that can give them a spiritual consultation or help them with a “spell.” I do not associate Vodou with superstition, but too often I find it reduced to superstition or “black” magic.

I have searched long and hard for the origins of Vodou doll mythology. La Regla de Palo Monte, whose origins are Bantú (sub-Saharan African), is an Afro-Cuban religion. The name Palo comes from practitioners’ use of branches and trees. While the various religions described as Reglas de Congo have their origins in the Congo region, in Cuba they have been decidedly influenced by Yoruba religion. Palo Monte ritual centers around the Nganga. In Bantú religion nganga refers to priests or ritual leaders; however, in Cuba it came to refer to the cauldron used in Palo Monte ritual practices. This cauldron carries relics, most often a skull, of a deceased person with whom a priest has entered a ritual contract. Also, some paleros were known to make figures to attack enemies, such as their slave masters. This is perhaps the origin of the contemporary mythology behind the pop-culture Vodou doll. The collapse of two African religious traditions—one Cuban, one Haitian—does not surprise me.

The doll who sits in my office is not the type of doll you stick needles in. I am not even sure he is a Vodou doll. And yet, his black cloth skin and his scarf evoked feelings of fear and mistrust among a group of university professors. The mythology of evil surrounding Vodou, surrounding black religion, remains. I have nestled him between an image of the Mayan god Maximon and an image of the Yoruban orisha Bablú Ayé. I decided he would feel at home with other marginalized and often misinterpreted religious figures.

He has been with me now for twenty-four hours. I am happy to say, as a type this reflection, that my computer is working fine.

Iran Shoots Down UFOs Over Gulf Islands

(Satellite image of Iran's Khark and Khargou Islands)

Iran said it has shot down "unidentified shining objects" over the Gulf in southern Iran, the website of the Press TV network reported Tuesday. The commander of the Revolutionary Guards in the port of Bushehr said after Iranian radar detected three bright objects flying over the Gulf Islands of Khark and Khargou, the guards targeted and shot them down.

General Ali Razmjou did not clarify when the objects were detected and shot down.

The general added that the wreckage of the objects has not yet been found.

The incident was not confirmed by the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards in Tehran and there was no follow-up to the story which was initially reported by the official news agency IRNA.

BCSCC Press Release: Cameron Lake Cryptid May Exist

Horvath photo - August 2007

NOTE: I received the following press release this evening...Lon

Cameron Lake, BC: It turns out where there’s smoke, there is fire or in the case of Cameron Lake, where there’s a crest in the water, there is an unknown animal. Researchers this past weekend found evidence of at least two large animals living in the lake located about 30 km west of Parksville-Qualicum Beach.

“I’m not ready to say what it is, but there’s something there and its very large – certainly larger than any trout or lake fish,” said John Kirk, co-founder of the BC Scientific Cryptozoology Club and author of In the Domain of the Lake Monsters, who conducted an initial research expedition on September 19, 2009 at Cameron Lake.

After some preliminary ground work the day before, researchers spent Saturday afternoon on the lake, probing the depths with a sonar-like fish finder. The first pass of the lake located two large contacts at a depth of 56 and 58 ft. But a pass of the lake later in the afternoon was even more successful.

"Something just went 'ping' on the alarm on the fish finder and we saw this absolutely massive object in the midst of various fish," said Kirk.

They made four more passes of the object in a 20 minute span and received readings at a depth of about 74 feet each time, ruling out that it was a school of fish.

"We were quite stunned that there was something that big in the lake, it was quite amazing," he said.

The researchers have been planning to explore the lake since a 2007 sighting by Brigette Horvath, who noticed a strange wake in the water and three objects or creatures going in a circle.

“Our organization has received reports coming from Cameron Lake since 2004,” Kirk said. “Witnesses have been describing what looks like a dark creature in the lake."

Kirk spent time on Okanagan Lake this summer in search of Ogopogo, and as chairman of the Crypto Safari Organization which sends investigators around the world, has traveled to Africa as part of research teams in search of living dinosaurs.

Kirk said the initial findings on September 19 suggest that a further more in-depth study of the lake is necessary.

“We definitely would like to come out here again,” said an enthusiastic Kirk. “When the lake is calm, the water flat, and the day long so we can really have a chance to locate this creature and find out, to the best of our ability, what it is.”

The BC Scientific Cryptozoology Club was founded in 1989. The group studies elusive creatures, such as lake monsters and Sasquatches, known as cryptids and the study of called cryptozoology: from the Greek (cryptos) for hidden, and zoology, the study of animals.

Besides numerous sightings of the Cameron Lake monster, Vancouver Island, along the Cryptid Corridor of Highway 4, has been the location of numerous Sasquatch sightings. A film and a History Channel program based on the elusive animal have been released, and it is also home to specialists in the field.

Previous post:

Expedition Team To Search Lake Cameron, BC For Evidence of Monster - People have reported seeing what they can best describe as a creature in Cameron Lake, just 30 kilometres west of Parksville, and John Kirk wants to find out what it is.

Kirk co-founded a B.C. group dedicated to hunting unidentified animals, or cryptid, and said he and his fellow members of the Scientific Cryptozoology Club have been fielding calls from people who say it's time to take a closer look. The author of In the Domain of Lake Monsters plans an expedition to Cameron Lake to look for scientific evidence on Sept. 19.

This initial inspection will determine whether or not people are mistaking natural phenomenon for a cryptid, Kirk explained.

Once he and his team rule out things like submerged rocks or logs, they will return for a more in-depth analysis. So far, people have described the creature as long and serpent-like.

One woman captured a photograph of a similar silver shape, an indication that it could be a fish, which would be just as interesting for Kirk because there are no known species of fish in the lake that can get that big, he explained.

The 70-member club has experienced field researchers from all around the world but its small size and small budget often limit the expeditions they can go on. Oceanside Tourism, which represents both Parksville and Qualicum Beach, contacted the group and offered to sponsor the trip.

"We've gotten some feedback from people who are concerned that if we find something it will stop people from swimming but it doesn't stop people in Okanagan," Kirk said. "There are no reports of anyone getting attacked at one of these lakes. In fact, it's a great tourist attraction. People make an absolute fortune on this type of thing."

Lakes in the province are notorious for creature sightings, according to Kirk, who said there are 39 lakes with some sort of sighting reports. With very few of these sightings confirmed, Kirk does not expect to find anything in Cameron Lake his first time out.

Cryptozoologist Follows the Clues - Cameron Lake Monster

Scientific cryptozoologist John Kirk intrigued by sightings at Cameron Lake

“There is definitely something in the water and it is moving.”

That’s the opinion of John Kirk, the president and head field researcher for the B.C. Scientific Cryptozoology Club, about a photograph of a strange wake in Cameron Lake.

He says what he saw was convincing, and now he’s considering an expedition to Cameron Lake to look at the situation first-hand.

The picture, taken by Brigette Horvath, reputedly shows evidence of something unusually large swimming in the lake. A TV segment featuring Horvath’s story and photo caught Kirk’s attention and a subsequent Internet search by his team pulled up the story in The News.

It wasn’t the first time they’d heard about this creature. In fact, he said his group first heard about the cryptid — the name given to unidentified species — in 2004.

“We have been aware of the Cameron Lake cryptid for a long time,” Kirk said.

Kirk and his team studied Horvath’s image. They have since been in contact with her and he said he’s contemplating an expedition to the shores of Cameron Lake. If he does come, Kirk will bring with him a wealth of experience spanning 20 years that has seen his search for strange creatures take him from the shores of Vancouver Island lakes to the jungles of the Congo.

He leads a group of about 70 members — among them, he notes, two members of the prestigious Royal Society. He plans to bring some of them with him, and he has invited Horvath.

The sighting, he said, fits in with a surprisingly large and widespread body of local lake creature lore. In fact, he said, British Columbia is number one in the world for lake monster sightings, beating out Norway and Sweden.

“There are 39 lakes in this province where some type of creature has been seen,” he said. “These phenomena happen all over the province.”

Other Island sightings, he said, include giant salamanders in Nitnat Lake, and an Ogopogo-like creature in Cowichan Lake.

“There’s a story of a guy fishing there in the 1950s or ‘60s being towed around the lake for an hour when his fishing line snagged on something very large.”

Tales of lake cryptids on Vancouver Island, he said, go beyond the 20-odd year history of the Cameron Lake creature, noting another lake may provide a clue about the history of lake creatures.

“Sproat Lake is also a body of water with an unknown animal inhabiting it,” he said. “In April, 1987 my family and a friend saw two large black humps swimming parallel with the shore at the northern end of the lake. We watched it for about minute. At Sproat Lake there are famous pictographs depicting an unknown creature known in the rest of the province as a Naitaka. This is the same name given to Ogopogo.”

An author and law enforcement support worker, Kirk has travelled to Scotland, Ireland and parts of the United States in his cryptozoological investigations. However, he said for him, his adventure in Africa stands out.

“We were looking for a semi-aquatic creature in Congo and Cameroon, called Mokele-mbembe, which is described as a long-necked animal with a body similar to a hippo and elephant-like legs,” he said. “It sounded like a sauropod. We heard reports of Pygmies seeing the creature.”

One father and son, he said, reported watching a Mokele-mbembe for three hours when its bulk blocked their passage on the river, and they were able to describe it in detail. Some of the locals, he said, were able to pick out a picture of the creature from a book — a picture which turned out to be of a plesiosaur. Interestingly, he added, the Pygmies described dermal quills on the neck of the beast — a feature of plesiosaurs largely unknown until very recently, and which weren’t in the pictures.

While Kirk said Mokele-mbembe could be some sort of holdover from another time, the Cameron Lake cryptid appears to be something different.

“Someone said it was silver coloured and looked like a fish,” he said. “I don’t think this is a pleisiosaur or something left over from he age of dinosaurs. I think it could be an undiscovered species.”
